🇸🇬Singapore to Kuala Lumpur🇲🇾 | Luxurious Coach Review... Transtar First Class Solitaire Suite

- That was quick, in this next episode of my travel series - I depart Singapore headed to my next destination, Kuala Lumpur. Most people would choose to fly because KL is only 390km away. Did you know there are a whole host of coach services you can utilise as well? It ranges from the mundane to the crazy luxurious decked out ones like the one I'm on.

I would. Because you don’t need to rock up too early and go through all the baggage security. $60 SGD is excellent value for first class with a meal and some snacks included and a 7 hour trip
When I worked in Singapore and was sent to KL for work, I actually preferred to drive. My colleagues all thought I was spoiling the market for them. Hahahaha...
@@ryansofly lol
Solitaire is comfortable and really first class. I have taken before many times . Strongly recommend to all !!!
Bro, keep posting these travelling videos! One of the few youtubers that actual care to provide many information in 1 video. You deserve more views and subcribers for the quality content you are providing! Really enjoy your informative video and more success to you! Hope you blow up on youtube!
Mate, thanks for your kind words. I've actually only just started this channel during COVID-19 so fingers crossed!
Coach is a good alternative to plane as flying nowadays is a hassle of needing check in at least 2-3 hrs. It works out to be about the same time as bus which brings you to centre of city without traffic jam or immigration delays.
When I lived in SG in ‘13 I did the bus trip to Malacca, leaving from the same place. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Love from the USA
Yeah there's something about road trips ☺️... Thoroughly enjoy them. Car, bus, or train.
Lovely comfortable coach, I'd travel on it. I have already done this route back in 1984, flying Brisbane-Singapore-Kuala Lumpur-Abu Dhabi-London. I remember we had to stay in our plane at KL airport, no photos out of windows and soldiers with rifles surrounding the plane. Apparently another plane was hi-jacked 200 kms away. We were sprayed above our heads, then took off again. I flew solo, so was a daunting experience to remember.
Wow, who got hijacked in 1984?
@@ryansofly Some plane at another airport....that's all we were told. Was quite tense in the moment.
Indian Airlines
Correction. The British didn’t come immediately after the Portuguese. It was the Dutch first, and later, the British. The British were already actively involved in Siamese negotiations.
Lol that's embarrassing! Thanks for clearing it up.
Just recently on Feb 20th I traveled on this coach, it was a good experience, it only took 6hr, didn't feel like a long journey, 👍

Really awesome video to watch to unwind after a busy day! The reason why there isn't any direct train is because the Malaysian side kept changing their stance when it comes to building the high speed rail between SG and MY.
Yeah this HSR was a glory project by Najib. It was suppose to be extended all the way into Jurong East. It was cancelled when Mahathir took over. So now it only reaches Gemas. The next phase with be the extension to JB.
"... keep on changing their stance ..." Due to insufficient opportunities to pocket a few bucks?
@HH Thinking of taking over Johore State? Excellent idea. Singapore army can easily accomplish the task.
@@sktoh4469
Nope. Najib himself was embroiled in one of the last decade biggest global corruption scandal i.e. 1MDB & his grand plan for Malaysia's latest train system was in the midst of that (circa 2014-2017).
Any sane citizen and member of the parliment would have take a step back in order to scrutinize the damage of the corruption to the national's coffer.
The 1MDB siphoned money were returned to Malaysia annually by external foreign governments and entities up until today, after the success pushing Najib & BN down from the throne in 2018.
@@sktoh4469 I suppose that's meant to be a joke. In the present world environment there is no place for jokes about unprovoked military aggression. Yes the Singapore army could accomplish that in a few days if it wanted to spend the next decades fighting a guerilla resistance.
Thanks for sharing. Great value between Singapore and KL.
For relaxation, opt for Coach bus.
For save time, opts for flights.
If fall inbetween, drive your own car or taking train.
taking that same bus in a month :) thanks for showing how the border worked now I can go with peace of mind
Enjoy the bus ride! It's definitely a unique experience in that part of the world!
i love how the flight is awesome, but, you know when you want to waste time and just chill............ this is the best way to travel hehehehe. Super love this. Definitely going to try :) thanks for covering this eh.
Wow I had no idea such buses existed! I’ve never been to either Singapore or Malaysia but if I ever do go I’d love to take this bus journey. It looks amazingly comfortable
Yeah even the regular coaches are pretty comfy to begin with.
⁰
Yes as an Australian with no love for airports the bus is definitely the way to do this journey. Even going from Singapore to Bangkok you could consider going by bus to KL then train to Bangkok. I lived in southern Thailand for two years in the 1990s and did the journey between the south and Bangkok both by bus and by train. Even then both methods were comfortable. I'm sure it's better now.
I'm doing this trip later and needed some guidance on what to expect. This video is really well produced and really helpful Ryan. Great job! Many thanks!
Enjoy the trip. Let me know how it went!
Hi Ryan, you are lucky for the slightly delay in reaching KL. Many years back, on a labour day holiday morning, I left Singapore at 6:30am by Sri Maju to KL. Jam was horrid. Our coach reached KL Berjaya Time-square at 9:00pm!
Oh my... That's horrible! Yes the traffic can be quite terrible along the highway during holiday season. I once left KL by car in Xmas eve thinking I would arrive in 2nd link at midnight and sail through it to be home. I ended up being stuck at 2nd link for 5 hours because everyone thought like me? Lol... Pity the high speed rail has been canned. Otherwise that would be ideal.
For the info of other viewers, there are bathrooms at the immigration complex on both the SG and Malaysia side, so make sure to clear your bladders before re-boarding the bus! (If u are afraid the bus would leave without u, let the driver know first)
Thanks for the reminder. Otherwise bring along a couple of ziplocks! Hahahaha...
hopefully not the hard stool kind..1 hour wait...bus just drive off 😂😂😂
Hello from Australia. I grew up in Darwin NT so can feel the humidity oozing through your video... I went to Singapore in 1982 for a couple of weeks and am itching to go back now and take in all the smells and beautifully clean places again. My only problem is I hate flying so I'm looking at alternative ways of travelling the world. After the relatively short flight from Oz to Singapore, rail and coaches are my going to be my best friends. I would definitely do this luxury coach trip, thank you for taking us along.
Well howdy, Jane! I'm actually Aussie, and I live in SA. Coaches are a fantastic way to do long haul travel. Hope you'll get on one of these, because there is nothing like that in Australia that's for sure! 🤣
If you wish you could just fly Darwin-Denpasar and go the rest of the way by bus, train and ferry.
I love road trip so i can see more of the country or places i was visiting.

Very nicely done Ryan it was a pleasure watching and listening to your account !
Thanks for popping by!
I took this bus before. It is very comfortable. Will definitely use this mode of transport from Singapore to KL. Thanks for sharing.
have toilet?
I did this journey by bus some years ago. A Singapore friend drove me to Johor Bahru bus station where the fares are much cheaper and going through the immigration points in a private car is a bit simpler and quicker. Yes I'd do it again, by the time you've cleared two airports flying isn't much quicker and definitely less environmentally responsible 😊
Yeah the bus is nice.
The bus is the way to go when travelling from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Ryan! No airport security nonsense, no risk of luggage getting lost, you go from central city to central city and you sit in seats similar to business class on a plane. Add to that the views from the bus window and the far cheaper fare. Why would you fly? I've travelled this way a few times and once by air.
Indeed, I'd do this again in a heartbeat! In fact, in a few weeks I'm getting on one between Chiang Mai and Bangkok!
@@ryansofly That will be an interesting comparison for me. I lived in Yala in southern Thailand 1996-98 and travelled once by bus Bangkok-Hatyai. Over 2 decades ago so the buses should be much better now.
@@rais1953 yeah I'm looking forward to it, the more challenging the better. 🤣 I have not been to Chiang Mai since I was 4 years old.
This Solitaire is nice , usually rides starts around afternoon. You won't feel rush.

Nice video, really appreciate... I have taken Transtar 1st Class Solitaire to K.L before too. Sometimes when they know there isn't so many passengers, the bus is a single deck. But the suspension of the European double decker coach is better. Shame about the air conditioning in the front of the upper deck... otherwise, i love the seat too, able to look out onto the road ahead.
Think the front seat is better at night.
I took Aeroline coach usually as m a privilege member Its similar to what your service experience ...the bus has WC at lower deck and you get blanker n and hot drinks n water besides hot meals or bowl instant noodles if u don't want the regular meal ...try it ... Used to be 50$ SG to kl it's stops at Corus hotel KL ...if you travel KL to SG from Corus hotel u can enjoy free coffee self service at the hotel designated area for Aeroline customers n you can enjoy discount meals too at Corus hotel
Aeroline office in SG is @ harbour front next to ferry ticket counter...u can also book on line it goes to Time square as well diff x to the one TT goes to Corus ... It's non stop as u have WC for pi only not "big job" . That u need to inform the cabin Steward or stewardess ....hot drink coffee ☕ 🍵 or milo take it pick n water is available wt hot as u boarded...blanket is available
Hi do you have to phone number where I can make enquiry?thanks
Last week, I booked this bus for my trip to KL. My trip was not very enjoyable. First of all, the bus was supposed to come at 9am to Golden Mile Complex, but it wasn't there. Best of all, it wasn't even the Transtar First Class Solitaire Suite bus. It was just a regular normal seated bus and we were told to board it and transfer to Solitaire only after we cross the Tuas checkpoint. This was already a big turn off for me since I booked for my family of three and we were on a regular bus for about two or three hours. From what I saw once I got to the Solitaire, it all looks a bit run down now. Things work but do not look as posh as advertised. Maybe it was just the bus that I was in. I give it a 4/10.
Wow that was a nice ride!!! Thank you so much for bringing us along with you! I really love road trips. My friends and I also travelled from SG to KL 3 years ago before covid. We will be planning another road trip there soon haha
Road trips are the best.
I would definitely love to get on that bus to KL. Thanks for showing this!
Excellent and informative. Keep it up.
Thanks for popping by!
I actually paid $98 per pax for my upcoming trip to Genting Highlands in December, definitely excited yet afraid, but after this video it did help me out with clarify my doubts etc.
No worries, glad I could help!
Hi there ...Thanks for sharing ...Much appreciated ...
Great video Ryan! Looks like a nice way to travel between the two cities, lucky those people made it back on!
I really wonder what would happen if those two were detained indefinitely? Thanks for watching!
Been loving the Solitaire Suite class whenever i head down to KL. Though more exp than the usual coach services.. its really worth while for Comfort and wider space.
The convenience of city center to city center is undeniable. Thanks for watching!
How much is to-and-fro from SG to KL and back?

Very classy bus seats. I have caught buses in Malaysia and they are very good quality but I never had a luxury ride like that!
Look forward to seeing what food you had in KL. I sure hope there is a big bowl of Laksa!!
Yes the food was actually pretty decent. Nah unfortunately there was no laksa for me in either SG or MY. That's why I have to return to do a laksa version of my foodie tour, thanks for the idea! 🤣

Yes road trips are the best
In depth content! Love it ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thanks for popping by!
Looks luxurious, however only 15Kg luggage allowed. Plus check the bus schedules, the route Singapore - KL is all about the right timing of the night / day, as the traffic can be horrendous, if you travel during peak hours. And price of course. The Aeroliner is to me still the best option.
Travelled like since 2015 & never looked back
I did an almost similar journey with Aeroline. You can't go wrong with either service provider.

Will definitely try this service during our trip.
I have tried many of the coach trips to KL between 2000 to 2009, and the most luxurious one is this particular one, of course. However, the standards have gone up so much. I truly enjoy it, and I wish to do it again later.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
Actually the regular coaches aren't too shabby as well! Of course this one is the best. I've just been told Aeroline is not too bad as well.
This guy definitely plays fantasy football. Because of his intro song
Nice guess! But no... Hahaha ..
@@ryansofly eitherway, great video mate.
Travel by bus... Is enjoyable
Very! I highly recommend this one!
The saddest event regarding JB to KL by train was when they dropped the overnight sleeper :( Yes the lack of a direct JB to KL train sucks. It has to do with KL to Gemas being electrified and Gemas to JB still diesel. I 'think' they have almost electrified the whole line which will be good because the current layover at Gemas is like 3 hours.
btw This bus is on my to do list next year. Is there room for an airline carry on where people normally sit on the bus ??
Yeah the train situation is a bit shit. That's why I chose not to do it. Perhaps when it is fully electrified I'll look at it again. As for the bus, my roller luggage was stored in the cargo hold. I had one laptop bag as a carry on in the main cabin, which I placed in the floor. There are no luggage compartments in the main cabin.
@@ryansofly That's 2 youtube reviews with thumbs up but I have some seen a great many awful written reviews. They were old so maybe Transtar has lifted it's game. Wishing you well.
$60.00 Sing dollars is pricey. You can fly on the cheap with so many airlines. However, the plus side is that the bus alights at Berjaya Times Square in the heart of KL.
Indeed, the convenience of city center to city center is undeniable.
I booked a budget flight this year and they were all above above sgd70, some even 100! I dunno when the preCOVID prices will come back.
Yes absolutely
It was a awesome journey. This video clip gave us a clear picture of Singapore to kaula Lumpur roadway.thanks for sharing this video.

Ya la, naik bas kan memang senang. Dari kota tengah sampai kota tengah kan? I pun suka sangat kalau stop kat Tangkak, sebab ade putu bambu. Tapi perjalanan ni kedai dah jual habis la, sayang.

Kl is still the capital city of malaysia. It has not moved anywhere.

I've visited KL so many times often flying from Europe via SIN, the bus looked like a great change to the boring 1hr flight 🙈... Great review I'm going to try it next time 👍👍
Indeed, land travel is one of the greatest ways to enjoy travel.
Excellent English. Great tour.
Many thanks!
Very luxurious coach
have not traveled that far up msia since covid, but I think maybe you can buy a ticket from KL back to SG for same price of 60 but in ringgit ... which is 3 times less because I always do it when I used to go up to melaka, from golden mile I buy a 1 way ticket and pay S$25 to melaka then once I disembark at melaka central bus station I immediately buy a return ticket for same price of 25 ringgit. One thing to note a lot of malaysians work in SG but return home to msia on Fridays evenings after work then on Sunday evenings they have to come back down again to report to work on monday so coach tickets get sold out very fast if you want to return on Sundays make sure you buy your ticket ASAP. But you can also hire a private vehicle taxi which is way lot faster but of course much more expensive I think was under 400 ringgit melaka to SG before covid.
Interesting, thanks for sharing!
14:30 FYI Kuala Lumpur is still the official and royal capital of Malaysia, and Putrajaya is the administrative and judicial center of the country.

🤣🤣 Aeroline have been providing sure bus services from SG to KL a decade ago.
It's more than 3 years, I have not travel to KL via coach. I think it is quite good to travel by luxury coach which come with drinks and meals
Well, its time to start again eh? Hehe...
@@ryansofly how much is it for your trip?
I like the detail explanation of the detainees
I enjoyed watching this video clip. It was nicely done. Two friends and I will take the same Transtar-Travel by luxury bus from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. It will be our first time in both countries. Here is a question: Can you suggest where to get on this luxury bus from Pan Pacific Hotel in the financial districts? I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.
If you're referring to Pan Pacific in Singapore, then download the GRAB app. It's a ride sharing service which is very cheap and it'll take you everywhere in Singapore.
However luxurious, it is still a bus. It doesn't cut travel time much.
One-way or return rate? For my experience with return fare, the coaches used for the return trip were always a lower rated bus instead of the same ones used for the outbound trip. Company had never compensated with rebates as they always cited that there’s huge demands and there’s no more similar standard coaches. That was umpteen years ago and my trips were always done during sch holidays though.
This rate was a one way... Because I was headed to KL to catch my flight home to Australia.
It's probably 20+ years since I visited KL proper. And 12+ years since I went any further north than JB 🤣 But good information in this video! I love long bus trips, just not those in SG (like bus 30, 67, 966 etc) 🤣
The border crossing can get pretty jammed at times. But it's always nice to do when you're not in a rush.
I’d do it in a heartbeat . At my age though , the lack of a toilet onboard my be a bit problematic 😀. Very cheap for the level of service and onboard comfort . Thanks mate and keep ‘em comin .
Howdy David! Yes next to train, bus travel is also my fave. Well, ziplock bag helps? 🤣
If you need to use the toilet, just tell the bus driver and he will stop at the nearest rest stop. There are many along the way so you need not worry about having to hold it in for too long.
@@JaswantSingh-ym9zo . I think I’ll just tie it in a knot 😉
@@davidcartwright5591 😂😂Trust me on this. Malaysia is not like Europe, Oz or NZ, where toilet stops could be 50 or more miles apart. I am no spring chicken either and I like the buses here NOT to have toilets. You have them like 10 miles apart. There is no need to strangle your birdie
@@JaswantSingh-ym9zo 😄😄😄
The reason why train services between SG and KL don't exist anymore is because the rail line connecting the city centres has been dismantled on most of the SG side. I think it had to do with bilateral agreements to relocate the checkpoint to the border.
Even after Tanjung Pagar station closed in Singapore, there were still direct trains departing from Woodlands to KL. No more now, especially when the rail lines from Gemas to KL has been electrified. Leaving the southern half still running on diesel. That's why the trains no longer connect.
@@ryansofly It strikes me as kind of odd that Singapore, which has some of the most enviable rapid transit networks in the world (save for those breakdown episodes in the early 2010s), is fairly underdeveloped in terms of heavy rail. SK and Japan have a perfect mix of both.
@@_Tripsandtips101 while SG has a very developed local public transport system, the cross border rail arrangements have always been the purview of MY. There were MANY plans for a high speed rail (HSR) from KL into the heart of SG. There were plans for a KL Sentral type facility to be built in Jurong East in SG. As a result of that, SO MANY properties were built in anticipation for that happening.
Then the Malaysian PM lost the election and was hauled to jail for his involvement in the 1MDB scandal. Heaps of his glory vain projects got cancelled by the incoming PM, including the KL-SG HSR.
That leaves us where we are today.
@@ryansofly, Jurong is still a bit far from the CBD. Maybe Outram Park would have been a more feasible site with three MRT lines?
@@_Tripsandtips101 Jurong is huge (in SG context). And Jurong East (JE) is at the edge where Jurong ends and meets buona vista (??). And JE station is already a pretty hefty transport interchange. So the authorities were looking to ride on that existing infrastructure to add on HSR. Malaysia had already sold the land around Tanjung pagar station by then. And real estate around the city is premium, so cost wise it was a no-go.
Sangat menarik

I’d like to ride this! For the price, I think it’s very good value!
Indeed, you should try it sometime. Although some folks in the comments have pointed out Aeroline seems to be the better value luxury coach. So who knows? Try both!
I wish that there were those types of bus options in the United States. Interstate bus service here is not good and getting worse with Greyhound the only long distance service available.
It's the same deal here in Australia. Situation is pretty dire. We have Greyhound here too.

i've tried coach travelling during younger years. with 2 kids with me now, probably would do it again soon within these 2 years. thanks for the insights to the comfy ride
No worries... Anytime!
Road trips are subject to road conditions.
The journey was scenic and comfortable
Sadly you experienced two hiccups Turing four into seven hours which defeats the purpose.
I would take the trip with fingers crossed 🤞
😜🤪😜
To be honest, I've never ever taken a bus when the journey was 4 hours. If the highway journey is smooth, then there will be jam at border crossings, or jam in KL.
It is true that there are no direct trains from Singapore to KL, but to say they all depart after 11 pm, I don't know where you got your information from. The only train that departs that late is the Eastern Orient Express, and I don't think you will want to take that train. The price of the ticket is not worth it. But as you mentioned, yes ,you will have to take more than one train from Singapore to KL. First the train to Johor Bahru. The trains depart on an hourly basis beginning from 6 am. You cannot buy tickets in advance. You go to the railway station, buy the ticket and board the train. At JB, you can then buy a train ticket to Gemas. The earliest train leaves JB at 8:30 am and reaches Gemas at 1:15 pm.. You can then take the ETS from Gemas which departs Gemas at 3: 20 pm and reaches KL at 8 pm. Considering the total time taken, which would be at least 12 hours, it would be much faster to take a bus from Singapore. which takes only 6 hours, less if you are lucky, although some bus companies may claim they take a much lesser time, but from my experience, the last time being just last month, having travelled numerous times, none have ever delivered on this claim. And I am talking about travelling on a weekday during off peak hours, like the bus leaving Singapore at 9:45 am. Delays at the immigration is a normal affair. SGD $60 is a pretty good price for a luxury coach. Thanks for sharing
Ah! Didn't know it was walk up only! That explains a lot. I was trying to book individual journeys online and the only departure was after 11pm from JB Sentral. Which made no sense. Thanks for clearing it up!
@@ryansofly The 11 pm train is the Senandung Malam or night express. For this train you have to book the sleeper in advance or you will have to sit through the whole night. Not very appealing either. The best train service by KTM is the ETS. Unfortunately it will take more than a year before it finally reaches JB. Also the service from Gemas to KL does not include free WiFi, whereas from KL northwards it does.

Hey Ryan, another good video. Never thought about a bus, but for $60 looks good. Not having a toilet might give me anxiety! I def wouldn’t be drinking much on the bus!
Yes it is good value for money. The regular coaches at half the price ain't that bad either! Large recliner seats with keg rests in a 2 X 1 layout.
@@ryansofly nah I’d go the lux version for sure!!
When do you filmed it? How long is the riding from SIN-KUL? Everybody wishes that in future there would be a high-speed train travelling from SIN direct to KUL so that it would be fast, comfortable, smooth & relaxing just like the China's High-Speed Train travelling around places in China.
This was filmed and six weeks ago. The current Malaysian electric train network is slowly being extended southwards and the eventual plan is to have it linked to Singapore.
When will the construction of Malaysia's ETS complete?
@@wongtt6712 I'd like to know that too.

Thanks Ryan for sharing...wonder if there is a return trip to spore wth the same coach service daily..?
The bus fare is a lot cheaper buying it departing Malaysia, because you pay in RM.
Agree that rail still isn't a viable option. Maybe when the electrification is complete, but it will still be a pain to get to the Jahor station. Only downside of the bus service for me personally is no toilet.
Actually, if you need to go - the driver would be more than happy to divert to the nearest rest stop. That should bring some relief? Hehehe...
@@ryansofly Nah, I'll wait for the relief in a shady club in KL.
