@@juanvillarreal6077 Yeah! They have a new singer, very good. Look for them here in YT, They played in NPC Tiny Desk. Highly recommended. Enjoy! As for TP and HLN collab, this is the best I heard from them. Dope!
There is no music like this today..All junk and trash. Huey Lewis defined what cool was back then. He truly said it in his song "Hip to be Square" He didn't need any electronic enhanced voice stuff, this was all him. Loved him then and still do.
So much boss shit in this. The leap over the monitors to shred the solo, the drummer kissing the camera, the saxophonist tossing Huey his harmonica for the bridge, the bassist's corpse like stance, the tenor sax skulking onto the stage, and of course Huey in the middle of it all
surprised more people haven't commented on how UNBELIEVABLY PERFECT everything about the live production in this is, not to mention the amazing musicianship. It sounds as though this is a studio recording, right down to the perfect snare drum sound...yet it's all live. These guys were gods.
This is a song for all ages. No one cares about anything but themselves. We all just want to feel good, no matter what. The truth hurts but you can't deny it.
Huey on top of his game back in the day. Who can forget the epic guitar solos of Chris Hayes or Mario Cipollina with his simple but powerful base notes as he wore his sun glasses with a cigarette dangling out of his mouth. Bill Gibson was never known as a flashy drummer, but he was always in the pocket with his groove driving the beat. Just a real shame that Huey had his health issues. Very dynamic group of musicians.
Seems you just validated the point further... I Want A New Drug came out 6 months before Ghostbusters did... and then Park Jr and Sony settled out of court with Lewis. The sign of a guilty party? Hmm. Oh well... either way they are both great songs! :)
Que chingon (grande ) es este Huey Lewis, nadie canta esta song como él , exitaso con estos Ritmos me siento de 25 a 40 años , cogratulaciones , grazie pur le video , BYA BYA, salutez . 752021
I can see why there was a suit involved with the music for both I Want a New Drug, and Ghostbusters theme by Ray Parker Jr. However the context of the songs were different where Huey Lewis' target demographic was for an older audiance and Ray Parker's was designed for everyone. They're both damn good songs and they both deserve praise. 5 stars for both of them but i can now see why Huey Lewis sued for the music used in the Ghostbusters song....
when I was 14 or 15 I wore a Huey Lewis and the News "I want a new drug" concert shirt to middle school and my math teacher took me into the hall, to try to talk to me about drugs! I said, "It's not about actually drugs, it's about love" OMG! memories!
I,ve been listening to Heuy Lewis and the News for years and have seen them in concert a few times and they still got it. Great song and Group. Keep it rock'n!
@thatXxFRESHxXguy I think we will always say things like this about the great music of each era and genre. But I am glad that today's artists are looking forward, evolving, and inventing, So that in 20 years, I can look back to today's music and remember it fondly, just as we look back to music like this video and get nostalgic. So, yea, you are right, but its not a sad thing.
This was the Sports tour live recording. Hip to Be Square hadn't been released yet on their next album Fore. There is a video of Hip to Be Square video here on You Tube somewhere.
Not so fast, Huey Lewis had been approached to do the theme song for Ghostbusters, 2 weeks not hearing from him after he wrote the first few melodies they dropped him from the contract, Ray Parker Jr just picked up where he left off. Huey Lewis then decided to sue Parker claiming plagiarism even though he wrote the theme for the movie not for Parker to make a song about!
And all together now for the chorus line: "Ghostbuster!!" ;) NB: Actually, Ray Parker Jr. did copy Huey Lewis not the contrary and by the way this is a quality class live performance thanks for sharing (this guitar sound is a treat!)
@jaimel180 The story I heard was that the producers of Ghostbusters wanted Huey Lewis to write the music for the film but they were doing the music for Back to the Future at the time. They then heard this and asked Ray Parker Jr to write something like it.
Saw them live in Manchester, England. Even had a short word with Huey after he kept getting interrupted by a drunk Mancunian who kept yelling, "Play Ghostbusters!" Hell of a show...
Huey Lewis and the News are sensational, the saxophonist and the bassist give that charm to this great band🎸🎷🎹🎺
there is NOTHING like this now a days ....this is just good ole HONEST ROCK AND ROLL!!...
Yep! Childhood memories for me!
Xactly!
Yeah, proper musicians, not just singers!!
I want a new drug ; an anthem to all seniors to look to the future in stead of dwelling in the past! Thomas greco kissimmee, florida
So sad there isn't good music like this today. Huey Lewis and The News were one of the best and still are. Great music.
You damn right they are, music is trash today compared to Huey!
Pretty simple R&R tune, Brought to a whole new level with the TOP horns. Love Doc!! Thanks to Huey for pushing for Tower.

THX for sharing...They're so fun!!!
Brings me back to 1984 when my mom bought me my first Huey Lewis and the News cassette tape. They're even better live. Great band

I going to do I want a new drug ( karaoke) at humana ; here in kissimmee, florida thomas greco !
Holy crap! With Tower of Power, I could replay this for weeks.
This is a song for all ages. No one cares about anything but themselves. We all just want to feel good, no matter what. The truth hurts but you can't deny it.
Absolute shredders of musicians. This is when music was music and real.
I'm a lifetime HLN fan and could never understand why every other band didn't have a bass player like Mario ! It should be standard ❤😊

Wow! Fantastic!!
This stuff just doesn't age!
I was listening to this the first time around, and it STILL sounds fantastic today!
You are a legend!!!! Thank you for posting this. Love the interlude with the Doc from the Tower of Power Horns.

Heey Lewis and the News ROCKS!!!!!!!! I wished that they owuld come back out with a "reunion" album or a concert!!!!!! Love this song!
The Los Angeles Times has some blog poll up right now, in which most of the readers say that Huey Lewis and the News is the best bar band ever.

Saw HL&tN back in 1985 at Red Rocks. It was a fantastic night!!!
I remember seeing this on TV. Showtime, I believe. Also seen HLATN live three times. Great, solid rock/pop show.
I,ve been listening to Heuy Lewis and the News for years and have
seen them in concert a few times and they still got it. Great song and
Group. Keep it rock'n!
The 1980s was a great decade for music. This song was great.
Great live performance!!...the horns rock.
It's really infectious.
I'm a death metal drummer, but i have to say that this is one of the best songs ever!!!
I saw hundreds of shows in the 80's...all the major acts...and they best show I ever saw was HL & the News with the Tower of Power in 1985.
I love how Chris jumps into the frame when he plays that chord in the groove at 3:56.
Great band. Great song.
Sigh, it's truly sad music like this doesn't exist anymore.

The old tunes are the best!
One of the best Huey vids I have seen.
I regret never going to see him live back in his prime.

Huey and his band rocked back then and still do.
