  • I've carved this netsuke of a little dog from water buffalo horn and I need to polish the inside of the dog's ball. So I'm making a braid with four strands of steel wool.
    What's a netsuke? (Pronounced "nets-keh.")

That's such a great idea, especially since the pads disintegrate into nothing fairly quickly, leaving metal splinters everywhere.

I have done this for sanding /cleaning areas after stripping the finish off. There are few tools that fit into the base of finials. I have pulled strips of emory cloth to use on a lathe. Never braided the steel wool. I will remember that one thanks.

Yeah, it’s a good one. That’s my first time braiding it, l usually twist it into cordage which works good but in this case I wanted a flatter strip.

Need to pick up a couple more vices. Lol. Really like the side mounted vice. I used to have a smaller one mounted on a 2x6 was very handy, but my son took a fancy to it. I have yet to replace it. You have some very helpful hints and tricks for sure. Thanks for sharing

Thanks OldSchoolAlaska. At first I thought you meant bad habit vices🤔and thought naaaa l have enough of those!😁 But then I figured it out. Yeah the side mount is handy, I did that originally for sawing silver sheet. It keeps it from jumping up and breaking my blades. You can never have too many vices!😉
