One of his best lyrics (or actually Bernie Taupin's lyrics) is in this song: "The threats you made were meant to cut me down; and if our love was just a circus, you'd be a clown by now!"
The song is fairly autobiographical. Elton was huge in the 70s, but his career more or less crashed and burned. No one thought he would be back...with he did make a big comeback. The song is his anthem.
Listening to Elton is different than watching him. You see him shredding the piano hard and use his voice and facial expressions to get the crowd going. I had the opportunity twice to see him in Vegas and he's just so badass 🤙🤙
Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind” is one that’s not up-tempo and has strong lyrical meaning that you would appreciate. Definitely worth a listen. He is super talented and diverse.
there is two different versions of the candle in the wind the only thing is he has only performed the second version live once and only put it on one album with one other song and he has always refused to play that second version ever agian unless the family of the person he re wrote the whole song for asks him to
Though he's mainly known as a balladeer, Elton has some great rockers/uptempo numbers. "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting", "Bennie and the Jets", and "The Bitch is Back" are three of the best-known ones. One huge hit that no one has reacted to (that I can find, anyway) is "I Don't Wanna Go On with You Like That", his 1988 dance hit.
I never really heard this song until I watched the movie Sing with the kids and had to go listen to the original version... with that being said I think coming out at time he did about his sexuality that wasn't as understandable in society as it is today with the LGBTQ community just makes the lyrics to this song empowering..."I'm still standing"
Elton John was my favorite growing up. I played this song while in rehab in 1984.... it helped me cope during those months. I can think of a song by Elton for most occasions in my life.
I used to listen to Saturdays Nights before we used to go watch fights on Saturday now this is my song for beating stage 4 cancer! Elton John is the man!!
"Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding" is another Elton John masterpiece. It's one (two part) song and the album opener. A different song than others. Eltons Bohemian Rhapsody if you want.
I really appreciate and enjoy artists who play instruments, like Elton on the piano and the same for Billy Joel. It adds another dimension to the performances.
High School freshman into sophomore year summer - this was the song that 12 of us crushing, rejected and brokenhearted teenage girls learned by heart and we - angry and having no sense, shame or fucks to give - belted it out in our school yard on the first Friday of the school year (senior day) while holding pictures of our crushes. No, we never got our guys, but dammit we had harmony and confidence for the rest of the year.
Such a legend! Elton John was the first concert I ever went to in 1979 in Chicago. Elton...what a class act! Thank you for sharing these memories with me & your honest reactions. 😇
This is the original band playing with Elton. The ending instrumental 'jams' were just that...jams. They were not rehearsed, and were different at each show.
Dude, u do not know me and i do not know you in person. but what i do know is that you are one of those who have a good heart and soul. i just love your videos and reactions to songs. feels like you know a lot about music, abut the heart and soul of music. lots of love and respect out to ya my man.
Please listen to "Candle in the Win" (both versions). It is one of the saddest most beautiful songs in his catalog. He wrote the first version about Marilyn Monroe and then reworte the lyrics when Princess Diana was killed and played them at her funeral.
I wouldn't call it another type of Rock'n Roll. I would just call it Elton. He is just one of those rare pieces of talent. He started in the '60s, got his identity in the '70s, busted into the '80s, and 60 years later he still doing his thing. Legend.
I love a lot of his earlier works, very symphonic, many layered. Songs like The King Must Die, Burn Down The Mission . Take Me To The Pilot, or, of course his first hit, Your Song.
What I love about your channel is all the songs I end up listening to, that I might have never heard in full otherwise. I've always known the chorus to this song, since it feels like forever. Yet I don't believe I've ever listened to the full song.. and I didn't even realize it was Elton John.
I like most anything by Elton John. My favorite is YOUR SONG and his duet with Kiki Dee. Of course he didnt write the words, Bernie did. He wrote the music. What an amazing team they are.
Pop Rock with elements of hard rock. A lot of music of this time combines genres. Much of Pop Rock was such absolute pap, it was easy to dismiss as a genre. But at the same time, there was a lot of musical genius around who used whatever genre they felt enhanced their sound. It was a time when Genesis, Elton John, The Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin, and Steely Dan were all popular and on the airwaves at the same time as Neil Sedaka and Captain and Tennile.
You should watch the official video for this song, it's a lot of fun and you get to hear the "real" version. This was fantastic, but it's not what we heard on the radio all those years ago...he was only 36 at the time 😊
Congrats on 321K subs‼ (I REALLY miss being able to SEE the video as it's playing! Could/would you PLEASE make adjustments to make that happen? Thanks!)
New subscriber here and huge Elton fan, so not sure what you may have already covered by him, but please check out I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That, Kiss The Bride, and Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters Parts 1 and 2
If you haven't listened to much Elton John, there is a TON to choose from. He's done rock, pop, glam, disco, funk, folk, country and now hip hop and dance remixes. He's great as a balladeer too, and even did a duet with the opera singer Luciano Pavarotti called Live Like Horses, which has some really uplifting lyrics by his long-time songwriting partner Bernie Taupin. I highly recommend either of these versions: Live with Pavarotti (lyrics are partially in Italian) ua-cam.com/video/1-WYnki9kWk/v-deo.html Live Solo Elton John (lyrics in English) ua-cam.com/video/rpO1-kA4kAc/v-deo.html I just subscribed and am liking what I've seen so far🙏🙏
This version is awesome, but even if it is only on your own, you should check out the official video as it certainly pushed some boundaries for its time, and I would think you would appreciate that.
In some of your other videos you repeat the phrase "it's aggressive". Well I'm a metal head and I fully appreciate that. This thing right here though, is aggressive in its own way: it's aggressively happy, aggressively serene even, if that makes any sense. The man is a legend, and rightly so.
Ah you tricked me by thinking you were watching official video by the thumbnail. Still good video though. As far as i can remember, Elton never/rarely wrote songs, bernie would send him lyrics and Elton would write the song around them. Worked really well for both of them.
Love the reactions, you have a very insightful view to new music. Having said that I am seeing a bunch of Live performances, this included, this is not what we heard when this stuff came out, this is not the song we fell in love with. I feel that Live performances cheat Reactors from the versions that shaped history. Yes some performances are great and better than the original, but they are not the songs that shaped you history and I feel you do yourself a disservice to not be on a level playing field in regards to music versions. Lyric, Radio or Album versions are the best. Live versions have to much artistic variances that can change the entire mood of the song depending for instance, how high and drunk Elton was that night, opposed to the polished version from the studio we all fell in love with. But that's just my opinion man. Much Love
this song was made when he was still in rehab when he realized he could still make beautiful music sober, after 1990(the year he left rehab) he lived a sober life while still creating music
Sorry, but that's not true. He was in rehab in 1990, but the song was written in 1983 and the live performance from the reaction video here is from 1984. So all way before he got clean.
Mad skills and a killer sense of vibe, and the ability to work a crowd. Some performers are better in studio and suck live, some are superstars who push their greatness ever higher when playing to and with a crowd that loves them.
This song does not even rank in the top ten of Elton John songs. Look at the Burn down the Mission album. You really need to get out more if you don't know the song writing pair Taupin/John.
One of his best lyrics (or actually Bernie Taupin's lyrics) is in this song: "The threats you made were meant to cut me down; and if our love was just a circus, you'd be a clown by now!"
Another rocker by Elton is called Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting from his 1973 double album called Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
Epic
This song doesn't get the love it really should. It gets stuck in my head all the time
The song is fairly autobiographical.
I feel Elton bring a Blue Rock vibe. This man does it great every time. Such a treasure

Finally someone reacts to Elton! As far as being a pure musician he’s the goat.
Funeral of a friend is a masterpiece piano piece. Highly recommended
I never really heard this song until I watched the movie Sing with the kids and had to go listen to the original version... with that being said I think coming out at time he did about his sexuality that wasn't as understandable in society as it is today with the LGBTQ community just makes the lyrics to this song empowering..."I'm still standing"
This song has become an anthem to those that are recovering from major illnesses as well as relationships. It resonates with anyone who is recovering.
I just love your reactions. The way you pay equal attention to the music and the lyrics is unique to what other reactors do. Keep it up!!
Elton John was my favorite growing up. I played this song while in rehab in 1984.... it helped me cope during those months. I can think of a song by Elton for most occasions in my life.
"absolutely brilliant guys" he ain't lying.... Good reaction vid 👍
I enjoy your very calm, wellspoken, relaxed and detailed analytical way of reacting to music. Very nice. Debating with you must be a pure joy.
Another really great song by Elton John is madman across the water.
I really appreciate and enjoy artists who play instruments, like Elton on the piano and the same for Billy Joel. It adds another dimension to the performances.

This is a good vibes song. Very good to make your day better.
I am really enjoying you reacting to these older bands (cause of course I'm older!) It makes me very nostalgic for my teen years!
My favorite Elton song!
Such a legend! Elton John was the first concert I ever went to in 1979 in Chicago. Elton...what a class act! Thank you for sharing these memories with me & your honest reactions. 😇
The official video of this should be the one reviewed.
This is the original band playing with Elton. The ending instrumental 'jams' were just that...jams. They were not rehearsed, and were different at each show.

Its hard to not like Elton John, dude is just so wonderfully energetic with his stuff. One I've not seen suggested of his is Pinball Wizard
I love how you go for live versions of these songs, that’s how music is meant to be heard!
I love a lot of his earlier works, very symphonic, many layered. Songs like The King Must Die, Burn Down The Mission . Take Me To The Pilot, or, of course his first hit, Your Song.

how have you never heard this masterpiece
I was thinking the same, it doesn't seem possible
I always thought that this was his intro into 80s pop and he was basically saying he is not old news, he has this, too. And he did.
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is very similar to this... more breaking away from commercialism... but still similar.

There is a song that is little known called Friends that Elton John sings
BENNY AND THE JETS !
You need to watch Rocket Man on Netflix. It's about his life. Much love 💘
Love your shirt, man ! 😄
Great reaction my guy 👍🏻
You should watch the official video for this song, it's a lot of fun and you get to hear the "real" version. This was fantastic, but it's not what we heard on the radio all those years ago...he was only 36 at the time 😊
The best i've seen on UA-cam is "Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting" Live in Central Park. I think you'll enjoy it.
Elton John can Rock but he also does some great ballads!
Elton John/Candle In The Wind from the album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road 1973
damn good tune.
from an old heavy metal dude when this was released. Even then I thought this was a pretty tuff tune. And it IS !
Congrats on 321K subs‼
(I REALLY miss being able to SEE the video as it's playing! Could/would you PLEASE make adjustments to make that happen? Thanks!)
a true legend
In my top 3 EJ songs. Never gets old for me.
Do I want love but the music video. Stars a young Robert Downy Jr just after he was in read where no one would give him much work.
One of my 2 divorce songs; the other was Dust in the Wind by Kansas.
one thing generally overlooked is how incredible his band is. Elton will always have elite players in his bands
Police Every breath you take
This is considered POP ROCK
Fresh out of rehab!!
Try his songs Mad Man Across the Water and Circle of Life. He is amazing.
The official video is a lot of fun. You should check it out if you have some time.
First cassette I ever bought was Crocodile Rock.
David Bowie - Modern Love, live and Station to station, live.
Should check out brown dirt cowboy by him it is a fantastic song from the Captain fantastic album 😁
This song always makes me so peppy! The beat, not the lyrics so much. 🤣
❤🤘
Taron Egerton did a cover of this in the movie Sing!
New subscriber here and huge Elton fan, so not sure what you may have already covered by him, but please check out I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That, Kiss The Bride, and Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters Parts 1 and 2
Please check out Elton's "Funeral For a Friend".
This is one of my favorite pick-me-up songs. Cool to see a live version for the first time.

Y'All need to find a video with Billy Joel, it will knock your socks off
Ah you tricked me by thinking you were watching official video by the thumbnail. Still good video though.
As far as i can remember, Elton never/rarely wrote songs, bernie would send him lyrics and Elton would write the song around them. Worked really well for both of them.
Another great up tempo song that would be much in this same vein would be "Healing Hands".
Check out "Club At The End of The Street" by Elton John !!!!!

@@rutkowski1490 Sorry I misunderstood when i read about this from years back
Have you tried blue eyes yet by him
Прикольная мамба
Elton has some mad skills. Not sure this is his best, but I am jammin’.
Mad skills and a killer sense of vibe, and the ability to work a crowd. Some performers are better in studio and suck live, some are superstars who push their greatness ever higher when playing to and with a crowd that loves them.
If you haven't yet, you should do a reaction to Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot!
Well done, you should do My Father Gun By Elton.
Great reaction as always. Would be amazing if you reacted to songs from the movie Rocket Man.
You wasn't brave enough to watch the official video ! :)
could you please do Ann Murray's " A little good News
Bro, I know I'm late to the party, but if Elton is a banger for you, you need to check out some David Bowie.
Elton John has 57 songs you should react to
Sometimes I wish you'd enjoy these song more than commenting this was a great example of how to Not over analyze a song. sorry had to say it...
i understand you wanna see it live but for sooo much songs, the studio version is better..
Is that your real voice or are you performing?
"His energy" yeah.... about that..... he once said he had snorted an entire mountain range of coke.
you need to do yourself a favor and watch the music video for this song it is super fun
Probably one of the most unpopular opinions out there, but I actually prefer Taron Egerton's cover of this song.
Crocodile rock
