- Expectations. We all expect things in life. Whether from other people, from ourselves, or from situations. However, when we make our decisions based on the expectations of those around us, we start to live our lives in a state of obligation. And when we do that, we are not truly living.
What would it be like if we were to live our truth, speak our mind and live a life that truly has meaning for us? What would it be like to start being honest with ourselves, and following our hearts?

When I cried at church, my 12 year old daughter told me it was my weekly rinsing. I cried listening to Nick, too. Just so powerful.
I so agree with Ruth"s wise little girl. It is heart breaking to see anyone apologize for their tears. In some strange twisted way, they are referred to as a sign of weakness. But tears look so beautiful in the eyes of this beautiful man. To me that is so because he cries from the pain of knowing love. Courage, fearlessness and similar words are only reflections of Love. Nick Nyalungu breathes love and happiness from every one of his pores, and his eloquent message of forgiveness is a timely one for the often adverserial world in which we live. It is sad that Nick was forced to choose between making his mother happy or making himself happy, but gratifying to know he moved on from that with a heart full of love and forgiveness, and that his children are growing up with the freedom to find happiness. John Lennon once said in elementary school he was asked to write about what he wanted to be when he grew up. He wrote happy, and the teacher told him he didn’t understand the assignment, to which he told the teacher, “you don’t understand life.” Blessings to Nick and his whole family, and thank you Green Renaissance for another inspiring episode.

“It’s time to put the fear down and pick up the heart.” Wonderful way of saying something that can truly be felt. This is a way I have always lived my life. I started crying when you mentioned about not speaking to your mother because everything about this video I wanted to send to someone who I’m not in communication with right now. I appreciate the rawness and the realness of this interview, the simplicity and the way it was filmed are really enjoyable also.

What a beautiful soul you have, Nick. Your love for your mother comes through so strongly. I think everyone goes through a period where they do not meet their parents' expectations and often that comes to a time of separation. Often I think our parents want us to be what they weren't and try hard to make us that. They see our refusal or inability to become that ideal as such a disappointment that they have to "grieve" for a time. I think your mother will come around after she finishes her "grieving." I agree with your statement, Cate...beautifully said. Our parents had dreams for us, probably from the day we were born, if not before...most likely, unfulfilled dreams of their own. And, I, too, believe that his Mom is grieving the loss of her dream. I'm sure that she loves her son, as much as he loves his Mom. You can see that he knows how much he's loved by his Mom. He just walked a different path than his Mom had dreamt. I'm hopeful that they'll get past this and reunite with love for each other.

I love all your videos... each one more than the other ones... But this? Oh my my... It says is all! This feels like home. Words that were felt inside but never quite fully expressed. I had to not talk to my mom for a few years in order to find myself. I'm glad I did. I can now be grounded in my own true self and not in the collections of selves our entourage puts on us. I can be free to follow my heart and, like he mentioned so well, be the only voice of authority inside myself. The courage it takes to remove yourself from the strings of people around you (especially those linked to us by blood) is a skill most of us will have to learn in order to find rest in our own self. It's the only way we can heal and bring peace to the world... it's by finding it inside ourselves first. And we can only find it by being true to our heart. Well done!

Thank you green renaissance. I could totally relate to this man's wise words. His tears have bought a lump in my throat. He seems such a good child to his mother I hope his mother can embrace him again in her arms and accept him for he is. His experiences have probably made him a brilliant father. I personally want my daughters to follow their hearts as they get older as I have not fully done that myself. I have always felt a duty to please and help family sometimes at the expense of my heart.
