*Update* Tonic is launched! We maaaade it!!! Link to download is finally here: tonicmusic.app/join-in Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't been uploading much on UA-cam lately! I've been working really hard on an app that combines community + classical music called Tonic, which I know you'll all love and is where this video is from! Tonic is a place where we're all about the work in progress! Everything these days (IG, UA-cam, etc) is so polished, there's no place for you to put up a half-finished progress video and receive feedback within that context of learning. The community on Tonic makes that possible. We know you'll enjoy it!
I am just now reading this…7 months later 😂 Just installed app on my Android phone-has this launched or am I supposed to add to waitlist? I got the # code but no invite code 👩💻
Follow the first rule of Koji Kondo ( who wrote some execellent chamber string music having mastered SATB on par with bach): use the discipline of pit practice. Practice articulations and work the piece up until you wouldnt feel embarassed to sit with a pit orcheatra. Only then do you dare entertain the public performance. The butterflies then have no problem because you will expect to perform fairly under pressure if youre an elite in the practice room until it begins to cancel out at which point you get things like weird al, Andre Rieu, Glen miller, Lawrence Welk, and a few others whom have truly mastered literally anything and everything in terns of genre that can or ever should be done with an instrument apart from true scherzo. (Thanks for correctly incorrect autocorrect, Google, and Alexa plus the bots).
When play in front of people (at home and people are standing so close to me), all my attention will be drew to the listener’s reaction and my fingers doesn’t remember what to do next.
I like to think of performing as doing something I love that I would be doing anyway, but now I get to show others how much I love it. Alternatively I think of it as performing solely for my own enjoyment, playing for me, and the audience gets to tag along.
OMG you haven't upload for a while Ray, I missed you! I really miss the back the stage vlogs, not sure whether it's still possible to do those these days... Any plan on showing us your backstage sandwich again?
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 Jesus was crucified, buried and then rose again on the third day. Believe in Him and you will have eternal life. Repent (turn away from your sins).
Omg yes..."you can only play THIS NOTE or you loose a life". As if anyone in a concert hall would notice. Hell, no one in my living room would notice 😄
So, I have just had this recital and I want to share a humbling, slightly disgusting story: I’m a piano student and played at the end-of-term concert of my school. It is such an honour to even be asked to perform there, so I definitely didn’t want to mess up in any way. Unfortunately, I accidentally cut the tip of my right index finger the day before the concert - that detail will be important later. Back to the recital. It wasn’t a solo concert and I played last, which added extra pressure, so I had to wait for 1.5 hours, listening to the other musicians, until it was finally my turn. At that point I was hungry, tired, hot and extremely nervous (my heart was literally racing, I tell you!). I got up on stage and started playing my Mozart Sonata - so far so good. About midway through the piece I realised, I started to leave red markings on the piano keys. Terrified, it slowly came to me that the wound on my index finger started bleeding again, most definitely from the raised blood pressure due to my nervousness. Seeing the blood added extra anxiety, and I was just begging to somehow make it to the end of the piece. In the end, I have to admit that apart from the bleeding incident I remember absolutely NOTHING from the moment on stage and it breaks my heart saying that. Performing is the cherry on top of a musician, the reason why we spend hours upon hours practicing, just to make music come to life. I have totally let this opportunity being robbed from me because of my selfish attitude before the performance. It was certainly a very humbling experience to me. And sorry for those who had to clean the piano after my playing haha. Regards from Austria :)
This was such an interesting conversation. Each of your insights can be applied to so many other types of anxiety as well, not just performance anxiety.
Will you make the Pocket Conservatory videos available to watch later in the future? Since we all have different time zones and schedules.. it looks amazing though! Such a great idea for an app! And this boomer can figure it out easier than discord 😅😅
I think an artist can recover from as many mistakes as they make, but it’s harder to get out of addiction to drugs. I think artists should never use medicine for nerves. Instead understand that life is made of moments, if you want to spend them performing it’s your choice, so don’t transform them in something bad. Or your entire life will be nerves. No building is going to fall if you make mistakes, musician. But you don’t see engineers taking drugs to plan constructions, I think. It doesn’t make any sense to me. Analyze if you heart is on the right place ❤

Ray's back!
This is so educational
I’m a big fan of the Dover quartet!
Sucks when your piece is less than 3 minutes
Yesh thats exactly what i thought lmaoo
omg. Esther is beautiful!
Thank you.
Ayyyy another upload!
Just watched your Mendelssohn performance at the Hollywood Bowl. Looked like you were having a blast. No stage fright there!
@RodSalvador live or? Can I find the recording somewhere? Thanks..
@@lamijasisic1374 live! Not sure they'll ever release a recording, as they rarely do
@@rodsalvador3608 Ahh, lucky you haha, thanks for the reply, have a great day!

Agreed but this guy said he had panic attacks, which is different to performance anxiety and sometimes medication helps with panic attacks
Can someone please tell me where the clip in 0:27 is from?? 😭😭
Fr 😭
I felt this
Is that why pop songs are 3 minutes long? Great conversation, thanks.
Full video?🙌
Okay. so now that you have had Esther on you must play Quasi Una cadenza Ray ;) (pretty please of course)
Hey grandpa, the guy you subscribed called Ray has finally found back his password for his UA-cam account
Hell yeah!
Hey Ray 👋 I've been watching your vids and I was wondering when your next catching up with Ray livestream is?
Me watching this after practising clarinet: foolish mortals, I am four parallel universes ahead of you.
