Devi isn't my favourite teen MC, but I love how she acts exactly like a teenager. She's impulsive, brash, and thinks she's mature enough to handle anything. I really liked her development this season, learning to cope with grief in a healthy way, and take care of herself
I was a teenager not that long ago and I know for a FACT that had anyone in my circle acted like that it would have been done and over with and they'd have got that idea out of their head REAL QUICK. Like, yes teenagers are impulsive and brash and think they're more mature than they are....but Devi is a particularly crappy person and that has nothing to do with her age.
As a teenager I did stupid stuff and got in trouble that my parents got me out of often
As a teenager i could never imagine being like that, and the "thinking im mature enough to handle anything" is like crazy because its the complete opposite for me
This was def a good season. I need more of Aneesa not being played by every person she ends up having come into her life bro 😭 She deserves a good solid story. Other than that though, truly enjoyed the story this season
Honestly. Her character fell really flat so I feel like they just made her or whatever to give her something to do.

I liked Devi's character development this season. I think that she's growing more sure of herself and what she wants out of life. I hope that she and Ben will be properly together next season!

I would say for me, this was the best season so far. I actually liked "Vec" over Ben till his mother stepped in. Because he helped her open up and was honest with him about how she felt. I actually like El and Trent together because they balanced each other out. And Nani standing up for Devi was my favorite part.
I think ben and devi are cute together but he has this weird lovehate relationship with her ,but I was rooting for des till that holle thing happend with his mother and that he couldnt stand up too her

Regarding Des' mom, I feel like I've seen this in Black and Brown spaces where the girl that the son is dating is always seen as a threat. That they aren't good enough or are literal dangers to these precious, Brown boy Gods if the girlfriend isn't exactly what the mother wants. It's disappointing but never surprising to see. It feels like internalized sexism, judgment and fear, wrapped up into one bow. For sons that ain't shit, let's be honest
i remember i saw a tik tok comment that was like “ Devi wasn’t as messy this season :( “ and i was like GOOD????!! that means she has character development? and she still had her fair deal of antics these season😭 it’s good she isn’t spreading rumors or cheating or anything this season
I wouldn't necessarily call that character development tho (the spreading rumors or cheating thing). That like me doing a chore and someone going: "You did so good today!" Like, that's a basic thing I should know by now how to do and am expected to do it. But I do get the field of where you're coming from with that.

I hope that some of the other characters get celebrity narrators. For example, I think that Anna Kendrick might be perfect for Paxton's sister Rebecca. She's bold and supportive, but can bring the sass when needed, just like Rebecca!

The thing is, Des would have been a perfect match for Devi. Their relationship was actually healthy, he challenged her, and I like to think most of her character development was because of she became happier in the relationship. But of course, Mindy Kaling had to ruin just so she could get it with the white guy 😭(don’t get me wrong, I’ve always been team Ben). Also can we PLEASE talk about the language/dialogue they used??? “Virg” “Girlf” and a whole bunch of abbreviations that absolutely NO ONE uses in real life. I got severe second hand embarrassment because of the amount of slang was definitely not “supes cool”.
The way I see it is that the show explores both versions of relationships Indian-Indian and Indian-other nationality/race. Because the whole story with Kamala is how she is encouraged to stick to her culture and get an Indian husband, with Devi they are showing the opposite of that coin - that you can have a relationship with someone of a different culture/race than your own. As for Des and his mum, that plotline was showing the stigma against mental health. It just so happened to come from an Indian mother to show that anyone can have these prejudices. I don't think they did anything wrong there, sometimes they are portraying people in a bad light regardless of their race or culture and that is the reality of our world. It doesn't matter if Devi's partner is white or not, just like it doesn't matter if Kamala's partner is Indian or not, what is important is that their relationship works.

I have to defend Des, he defended Devi when his mother talked smack about her. He even avoided Devi because she loved her and didn't want to break up. When the moment of truth came he told his mother to admit what she said. Des was just caught off guard by everything that went down. He never agreed with his mother's opinion, he simply didn't want to have to chose between this mother and his girlfriend. South Asians are super family oriented in most cases so being placed in that scenario is the worst nightmare. Des even in the end when he left said sorry and that he didn't mean for things to go the way they did.

it's sad because I found that des and devi had the most chemisty out of all of her love interests, I'm not sure why they wrote out not only a good love interest for devi but also a friend for nalini as well. Des really respected her and I agree that he didn't want to end things, he seemed to really like her, I just choose to blame the writers to actively sinking this ship

I feel so bamboozled out of Paxton and Devi's relationship. Then we got Des (who I still like more than Ben) and his mother just messed everything up. I was not happy when Devi showed up at Ben's house.
I love El and Trent together. Never expected these two but they are surprisingly refreshing.
Also I never once thought Paxton would take advantage of Devi in the relationship. Why do people think so little of him?
My favorite episode was the one with Ben and Paxton ironically. I do want Devi to end up alone at the end of season 4 too. Like you said, she really had a lot of growth when she was alone. Also I am a little biased since I don't want her with Ben lol

Well, funny enough I too expect that Devi will end up with neither Ben nor Paxton. I mean it's just realistic.
And I don't really have anything against Ben, I get his character and what he's supposed to represent. My favorite episode in S3 was also the Ben episode. But I kinda agree with the unhappy feeling...Devi is about to give her V-card to the one person who coined the term unfuckable nerds and bullied her with that. Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
This was the best season so far. I think the Ben centric episodes are always really well written.

For me I find it so disappointing how they handled Des’ character cos he really challenged Devi’s misconceptions about being smart and Indian. He called her out about her casual racism or how he sees her as cool, fun, smart and Indian. I think that, it was really important for her to realise that those things aren’t mutually exclusive. And his mum was so lovely and friendly on the surface. Also their relationship was so healthy, they were always so honest with each other about how they feeling or how the other person’s action made then feel. And they were so hot and their chemistry was incredible. So it was so disappointing how he just ended being a stereotype of being a brown mummy’s boy, like they were doing so well. Also it’s so predictable, that Mindy just ruined it for a white guy 💀. Like CMON

a lot of (south) Asians are family oriented people, he wasn't even a mommy's boy. he just didn't want to pick between his mom and a high school girlfriend? he stood up for Devi when his mom was confronted and everything, he also started distancing himself because he didn't want to hurt her. logically if you had to pick between your caregiver/parent who you love or your partner as a teenager, chances are you're going to pick your caregiver? i liked them too, but it's unfair to call him a stereotype like that.
but like des's actions are very understandable from a cultural viewpoint... it's realistic idk
like yeah des can be cool and smart as an indian boy. but he can also value his mom's word over everything too, people are just multifaceted like that. some stereotypes ring true and others dont.
I see your point but I think we weren't meant to perceive him as a bad person but to be disappointed because he could have been a good fit but ultimately it's the stigma around mental health in South Asian communities that broke them up. Rhya is just a mouthpiece but I'm Middleeastern and I've seen family members having this exact mentality, in fact even using the same words. Ben and Paxton aren't better than Des either, but we've had 3 seasons to see them progress and slowly make strives to become better. We weren't going to get that with Des who was only in the show for a few episodes. His character could come off as stereotypical but I think they've added enough layers not to come off that way, not to mention how many South Asian women have commented that this is actually a pretty accurate depiction. You can love your culture and still be critical of it's worst aspects.
For me it was the best season so far. I love this show and I’m gonna miss the characters when it ends because I feel something toward them, even secundaria characters. I saw a big development in the main characters and I got pretty satisfied with this season.

Usually I can’t stand Devi, I was barley able to stand her in seasons 1 and 2. But she had so much character development this season, becoming a better person, focusing more on herself and healing, Des was also my favorite of the 3 boys for Devi (I’m rlly sad his mom had to ruin everything tho) she was finally able to move on and have somewhat true closure with the grief of losing her father. No longer being stuck in 1 place after her father died, being able to be truly happy for once.
I loved this season for Devi. Really coming into her own.
Apparently showrunners said we'll be getting Paxton as much as we always have and that the love triangle will continue. I'm interested to see why he'll still be around when we all expect him to be in AZ
Well there are possibilities.
1) we get another Paxton episode (I mean S1E6 and S3E6 were Ben's)
2) he will be visiting home in at least one episode (like he said to Trent that he will come back to visit a lot)
3) as suggested by him Devi visits him in Phoenix (probably with the gang) in one episode
4) in the last episode probably everyone will be there, he is maybe on semester break
5) the rest of the episodes he could face-time a shit ton with everyone like Prashant face-timed with Kamala in S2.
6) or John McEnroe could 'check in on him' like he did with other characters (like with Fabiola and her family)
But who knows.

@@Cliohna I think a lot of these will happen because they’d honestly be dumb to not have him in the show a decent amount. He’s a huge draw, and how can you continue a love triangle if he’s not present? It’s like 5.5 hours drive so realistically he could technically visit home on some weekends regularly. Especially if he doesn’t have Friday classes, which happens sometimes. I hate how much I’ve thought about this. 😂

There is definitely a new character in S4, played by an actor named Ivan Hernandez, which is supposedly Nalini's new love interest.
What if that character is also Margot's dad?

I would like to see more of Dr. Ryan in season 4. I hope we get to see more of her life outside of just being Devi’s therapist cause I feel she’s one of the most interesting characters on the show
1. I personally think that fabiola and aneesa getting together was super random? like even in the episode previously they could have at least shown them being close, maybe have them say that they were hanging out over the time since the dance, IDK something. Even after they got together we barely saw them and they were acting awkward, I personally really like aneesa and I think she is one of the few characters that I like as a person, and shes been left in the dust for no reason
2. I also am more inclined to like paxton more than ben, tbh this show hasn't really given a love interest that I really want to root for, I knew from the beginning that it wasn't going to work with des, so I ignored it, but I really don't like ben, he reminds me so much of the guys I went to school with, she just seems so unlikeable, and even though there was character development towards the end, I don't feel like it's genuine nor do I really buy that this change will leave a lasting impact on him.
Fab and Aneesa pairing reminded me how showrunners of Glee kept pairing random people just because they have nothing to do with the characters😐

I also thought that the relationship between Devi and Paxton was a bit rushed. And you could really tell from the way Ben kept pining after her that she wasn’t going to “end up” (if you can even say that when speaking about teenagers) with Paxton. Regardless of this I loved this season, I had so much fun watching it!
And re the whole Nalini allowing Devi to have a boyfriend story line: obviously I don’t have south-Asian immigrant parents and I hear all of you who say this was totally unrealistic, but I think on a narrative level she agreed to this because of the way Rhyah acted towards her. First there was the scene in which Nalini confided in Rhyah and Rhyah responded by essentially saying “sucks to be you, my son is great.” Later on when Rhyah said “you can’t be together because Nalini wouldn’t be comfortable with it,” it felt like Rhyah was opening up some kind of mum competitiveness by saying that it’s Nalini’s fault for being so uncool. She sort of put Nalini down, implying that she was less open-minded and more strict than Rhyah. In response to that, Nalini decided to allow the relationship. That’s my interpretation, but I might be completely wrong! :)

Devi/the plot in general(the constant love triangle every season) pissed me off so much this season I stopped watching the show but what i missed sounds actually refreshing for the show so all these months later this video has convinced me to pick it up again
best season by far. i loved the ending, you really got to see her character development there. also we got our answer on who she ended up with (I was team ben so I was happy about it, although I loved her relationship with paxton. des, wasn't the best but it was alright) i loved the way she described mazes and labyrinths and how it connected to real life. and the ending with her mother, i loved seeing them grow a better bond with each other, the ending was very refreshing to see.
Great season! Best one yet! Imo I liked des at first but then idk his and his mom's true colors came out. The fact his mom made it seem like he didn't have friends was a red flag. And his mom was always too nice to devis mom. In reality this guy had tons of friends almost like his mom was dumbing down his friend situation to make devi feel more comfortable smh.
Imo devis mom was right des mom never was her friend she used devis mom as an experiment only bcuz she felt pitty for devi and them for all that they went thru and devis mom read her "if what happened to us happened to you it would break your happy little fairly privileged world compared to devis and the moms but we are doing just fine still greiving" ... And yeah devi def is a lot but it was super messed up especially this ex his mom was using... since when does devi grieving over her now passed away dad and her first concert or whatever since his passing since when does her freaking out seeing him like that since then since when does that mean she has MANY PROBLRMS. Plus that dude didn't even have the courage to be honest with her.
Ppl will say what they want but des was what 16 or 17? Gonna graduate soon. Yes he is a mamas boy and he shoulda stood up for her more. Yeah ppl are family oriented or whatever. But it's another to let your mom treat you like your a child and as if your not gonna graduate in a yr or less then go off to college etc.... And to talk about someone that way when devi lost her dad. He shoulda spoke up then . Also the fact des cared more about his friend when his friend was hitting things in devis house. Yeah we all go thru stuff but if your gonna do that and hit property that's not yours .. you can just go back to your house. I do give props tho for him caring about his friends too but idk it's just the fact he was willing to drop devi in a instant all for his friends or mom. Not saying he should choose it's just common if your dating someone the least you could do is at least make sure they matter too. Yeah it's his mom ofc but let's be real he shoulda had a chat with his mom that he's growing up and in less than a year he'll be off to college after graduating and that she can't control who he dates and that she's being selective and she's being hypocritical cuz had devi not had the issues she had like loosing a parent/still greiving/seeing her passed away dad I bet his mom would let them date. It just put a bad taste in my mouth when his mom wea*onizedd devi greiving her dad. Doesn't make someone crazyzy for greiving. Next!

i think devi and ben are by far a better pair than devi and paxton, i think ben is better for devi. when devi is with paxton she’s insecure, jealous, and flies off the rails often. however, when she’s with ben she seems more comfortable and secure. when devi describes why she wants to be with paxton on screen she normally just talks about his body and features but she talks about ben’s personality and what he’s done for her.

i will never forgive the fact that devi and des didn’t end up together in the end. i really don’t think he did anything wrong and it’s such a boring stereotype of “brown boy being a momma’s boy” all that to go back to a white boy. i wish at the end of this season, she learnt to just be by herself and find a new appreciation for her culture.

Man, was this season SUCH a breather. Finally, do we not need to deal with 80% of the problems in a season being caused by Devil-Devi because she actually takes the time to think for herself,a MONUMENTAL moment in her development for real.
I think/hope Devi and Paxton are endgame, she challenges him (like he said in his speech) and I think he can teach her how to handle her emotions and also to love herself.
I think Ben and Devi aren't that great only like frenemies (all tough I do think the free boink pass is cute and I love that) but I think that art girl can make sure Ben won't get filled up with 💩 again.

honestly my favourite season so far and I'd been on the Bevi (i think that's the ship name for Ben and Devi) train since the first season so the ending was the cherry on top of a great season.
We still had some trademark Crazy Devi moments but it was more so her being a teenager than a big problem in everyone she interacts with's life and Paxton's development was great (also his and Ben's blooming bromance is fantastic).
I liked that Aneesa finally stood up for herself. I like Aneesa and while I'll always ship Devi and Ben, Aneesa deserved better and I'm happy that she realised Fab wasn't the one for her either and encouraged her to go for Addison WHICH, might i add, was a nice storyline for Fab.
Now the main topic: Des. He was nice and i loved him and Devi as a couple but he was honestly too much of a mama's boy. As a comment stated, South Asian families ARE very family oriented (i would know i am also indian) most kids end up dating behind their parents' backs (again, i would know im literally doing it rn) so if Des really did like Devi in my opinion he would have gone the extra mile and continued a secret relationship with her so. yeah.

It's interesting hearing about this after watching Velma and seeing that we have the similar trends of:
-ptsd caused by dead/absent parent
-second female lead is asian, queer, and adopted, her birth parent abandons her a second time after seeking them out, and she ends up kind of hooking up with a female Indian character, who it ultimately doesn't really work out with
-every character wants to date the Indian female lead
-indian female lead is unpopular but also kind of unlikeable so we don't really have a whole lot of sympathy for her with that
This is some real mc plot armour for all these guys to be into her despite her being a walking red flag.
I like Paxton but Devi is the most comfortable with Ben

Soo i genuinely thought season 3 was the last one!! So i'm just gonna give my idea of what could happen after the finale; what if that ben thing was a one-timer? Let's be honest, devi was really building towards that moment, she had been wanting to do it for 3 seasons now. So to me, it feels like she got that checked off, and is now on her way to more healing.

I wouldn't call Ben Jacob and Paxton Edward. For me it's the opposite. Paxton is the kinda character to whom MC has instant crushes on based off of hotness. Usually these tropes be like 'well, they get to know each other, he seem to finally like her back, bbbbut she's now into this nerd, whom she never expected to like'. This happened in While you were sleeping, with Sandra Bullock, new Nina Dobrev's Christmas romcom(ironically Darren Barnet played that guy too). I honestly wished they'd reverse this trope and she'd choose hot guy/real Jacob, and showed he actually HAS layers to him. They did it, sorta. But not really 😂

I think Devi needed to stay single BUT I think the relationship she had with Nirdesh as well as the rejection from the mother was needed. Life isn't fair and I KNEW his mom wasn't gonna go for it. You can't deny in real life if you had a kid and the kid had so much going on you would want your child to bring them home. I'm sorry but I wouldn't, I think that's an important lesson, you have to heal fully, love yourself before trying to love someone else. You can't drag ppl into your drama, it will not work. I think the mom was harsh, I think she would have talked to dev then talked to everyone else about it.
What you said at the end how you wanted to see an episode where Devi’s Dad was alive I do agree but, I want it to be something positive that comes out of it like maybe instead of her wishing her dad was alive at the end of season 4 it’s like her finally like genuinely having self-growth.

Devi annoyed me to no end. I liked Paxton a lot and liked the angle they took of the nerd, Devi being the one to cheat on him and do him wrong when he genuinely liked her.
I liked Des’ mom and was so upset when she did what he did, buuuut I totally saw it coming. Devi IS a lot (and kind of a bad person sometimes) and since they are Indian, I completely expected Des mom to not approve.
