The excellent british tv show "Foyles War" has an episode : "All Clear" where operation Tiger serves as a backdrop. This was the first time I heard this story. I highly recommend the show and this episode.
This is a really good video, I'm surprised it doesn't have more views! I'm reading a book "The Bedford Boys" and it briefly mentioned Slapton Sands, but it failed to go into detail about what really happened. As an American I never knew this accident occurred. Thank you for covering it.
My grandfather was a corpsman on Landing SHIP Tank, LST 289. The lifejackets were of an old 'basic rubber ring' design. I'd recommend 'Exercise Tiger' by Nigel Lewis for a thorough and accurate account of the disaster.
How is this the only video on this? Ive never known this and love ww2 history. None of the museums at normandy mention anything about this. Hope your channel blows up
Dedicated sincere honest are term that come to mind to describe the guy who went about brining this tragic loss of life at Slapton Sands U.K. to public light. Whereas despicable is the only word I can think off to describe those involved in covering this tragedy up which was self serving and that no pride can be claimed in doing so. RIP all who lost their lives.
over 1,250 men were buried on the hill above the beach [ in three mass graves] and the govt bought the hill from the farmer and then forbade anyone to build on it ever.

Me too! Didn't watch any more after that!
I always like watching stuff about history, but getting a advertisement for it is just perfect

Thanks for your support carbsncaffeine (great name!) I’m glad the video reached you and I’ll definitely put the Bedford Boys on my reading list!
My great uncle died aboard one of the ships in this incident.
Just one thing: The ships were called LST's (not LCT's) for "Landing Ship, Tank"

My grandfather was here. LST58. Ship in front of him and behind him was hit. crazy
Wow, he was a lucky man! I hope he survived the war.
@@superfuse he sure did. Was on Omaha beach and lived to tell the tale. 🤙🏼
What a man! Great to hear he survived to share the stories!
Never heard about this before. Really sad that this happened.
Sadly it’s not a well covered incident. Hopefully some more mainstream channels will pick up the story and we can get it pushed out to more people

One day some one will have the courage to tell the truth about this terrible incident, and the true number of deaths.
Agree Michael. Hopefully the incident will be completely declassified in the future and the full truth will be told.
