This ending was heartbreaking, shadow and maria having one final goodbye with eachother and the amount of pain in shadow's voice when he had to let them go again and shadow sheds a tear and it lands on rouge while she looks very concerned for him was just sad, sonic fans are about to be depressed for a week
I loved this so much; my wife and I shipped Shadow and Rouge so hard as teenagers, something we actually bonded over. Rouge seeing Shadow vulnerable in such a sad but sweet way just made us ❤
Yep, yeah, brother, I am split between wanting to play the ending again. i can't deal either, so truer words were never spoken before 😂😂 I swear I am still sad, and I tortured myself watching it again 😢 like I didn't watch this yesterday.
It’s so sad seeing how optimistic Maria is about seeing Shadow again and looks forward to their future together as a family of 3, when we already know what’s in store for them. Maria gets shot and dies, Gerald loses his mind and gets executed, and Shadow gets locked away for half a century. It’s really heart wrenching. Especially when they finally fade away and there’s the shot of that eerily empty space where they just were mere seconds ago.
She *will* see Shadow again when she returns to her own point in time. Other than that I think she’s picked up that she isn’t long for the world based off Shadow’s interactions with her and has made peace with it already

I think theyre setting up a shadow sequal or a silver game, maybe an adventure 3 honestly considering bigs appearances in frontiers and shadow gens. I think whatever game it ends up being will finalize the events of this game and 06. Where they create an alternate timeline allowing maria to be saved as well as allowing mephiles/iblis to be released

What I mean is shadows entire arc in shadow the hedgehog (and also in this game) was learning to let go of the past and move on with life. So if Maria is saved it kind of steps all over his character arc.

@@TheLsp2011 It's also heavily implied that, while it was 50 years for the world, for Shadow, it was practically yesterday that he saw Maria dying before his eyes. So the memory was EXTRA fresh in his mind when he was woken up by Eggman. Add that to the mix...and yeah. The poor guy has every reason to cry after losing his family all over again.
French here, it didn't make me cry personally, but I gotta admit that during the cutscene where Shadow told Maria he would defeat Black Doom for the sake of fulfilling her wish and he smiled at her, I kinda felt something, like I was kinda feeling that sensation in the head when you're about to get emotionally teary. Like, it reminded me of Sonic X, all those years ago, and so it kinda hit me in the feels a little.
Another user who had made videos of the cutscenes may have been taken down so I’ll say it here again; it’s truly heartbreaking that shadow would want to change reality itself to just save Maria and Gerald. I cried when they were fading away actually same way I did when shadow cried. This scene may explain why he doesn’t talk much about Gerald and Maria because he’s learned to let go of the past. He just needed a little push to let himself go. And after rouge witnessed shadow cry. She stays with shadow more often now after this game in the timeline. Showing she truly cares about shadows feelings, I mean they’ve been friends since adventure 2 so it had to happen at some point that she’d witness him cry and be vulnerable. So now Amy and rouge have seen shadow cry.

Finally finished this game today. Man I cried at this ending, definitely a very sad finale for a sonic game. So glad that shadow can finally have some closure with his past and got his final goodbye with Maria and Gerald
I always had trouble with how they handled Shadow on his stories, both in SA2 and ShTH. With the "serious" moments having the subtlety of a brick and made silly because of the funny cartoon animal having a gun. Not to mention the outlandish plots he is involved... Etc. But the story in this game and particularly THIS scene, is executed beautifully. The seriousness is still there without getting too overbearing, having some little moments of levity to balance the tone which makes it flow much more naturally compared to its predecessors. This also helps making the emotional moments hit harder. And basically making Shadow accept his history as a part of him. I'm glad my Shadow finally has his beautiful and well written story. Kudos to Ian Flynn!!!

Dude the final cutscene had me in tears… Shadow was so desperate to keep them. You could feel the panic in his voice. They actually gave him feeling. The “I’ll stop Rouge” and “But you don’t know what’s going to happen” had me in a chokehold Also, before this game I honestly didn’t like Kirk as Shadow. But now Kirk is literally my personal favorite VA for Shadow. He did so good. Also also the final cutscene reminds me of that one Batman meme where he’s hugging his fading parents
Even though he's crying, i feel like Shadow needed this. A final farewell to the only two people he's ever cared about and permission to forgive himself and live his life
It's his canon event, her fate cannot be changed and shadow needs to accept the loss to heal and move on. That's what makes shadow a compelling character imo

This is a very heartbreaking and beautiful ending to Sonic X Shadow Generations. Shadow got to have one last goodbye to Professor Gerald Robotnik and Maria. Shadow had worked through the painful memories his whole life and risen up to be a true warrior. And seeing Shadow shed a single tear after saying goodbye to Maria, I felt like crying softly on the inside. Sayanora, Shadow the Hedgehog... 🥹🥹🥹🥹😢😢😭😭😭😭😭😭❤❤❤
I know the entire storyline hasn’t been released yet at this time (Oct. 20th) to see any other small details we have missed but this ending does make me wonder. If Dr. Gerald retained his memories of all this then does that mean he knew he would fail in his plan to destroy the world since he knew the Shadow he met wasn’t of his time? If he did know the large possibility that time would remain unchanged regardless of his efforts then why did he go along with it when he knew it was doomed to fail? Did he really mean to destroy the people of Earth? Who can say?
Hold on to your seat this is a LONG comment, trust me it's worth your time The part where shadow tears up is beautiful, not because he's showing emotion but because i think its interpreted that he's finally allowing himself to grieve about Maria, because throughout shadow history he's always tried his hardest to not think about her because he thinks grieving about Maria (even in the ending of shadow 05 he tells himself that he needs to let go of her) he does this because he thinks thinking about Maria holds him back from his true potential, but this game shows us that shadow was wrong about that, holding maria in his heart is what truly makes shadow strong It's because of his care for maria that he was able to overcome black dooms darkness in the end, everytime maria comforts shadow in the game there is always light shining ON him, and near the end of the final boss fight shadow's body starts to glow bright, implying that marias light was now shining THROUGH him this time, and that's all because he was finally letting himself accept the past that he tried to constantly push away and that's honestly so beautiful, that's that kind of depth I love to see in sonic the hedgehog, some people think sonic stories being edgy, cool, and overall serious is what makes the stories so good, but that's wrong, it's the characterization, depth, and world building that we love to see, and in my opinion this game perfects it, which is why I'm so excited to see where this franchise goes next.

We know everything that happened that lead to Shadow being vengeful in Sonic Adventure 2. It was nice to relive his story since he has his own game after all, as well as stages thats playable for him.
Sonic games before The Sonic Renaissance era started by Frontiers were Sonic facing badniks, eggman, robots, monsters, the government, aliens, demons, and even gods. Sonic games Frontiers onwards, all of those things are forced to face Sonic. In Shadow the Hedgehog 2005 Shadow is forced to face his past and Black Doom. In Shadow Generations, Shadows Past and Black Doom are forced to face Shadow.
Well, this part destroyed me. Shadow rarely cries or smiles, but when he does you know it’s truly genuine. How could he and I not? He got to see the two people who meant the most to him, whom he lost tragically long ago. Then had to say goodbye😭! It was inevitable, but Shadow wouldn’t have traded the chance to see them again for anything. I know he wouldn’t. Eggman might have unknowingly brought them back (and the black arms, idiot!) but it was a gift. Shadow has been reminded of what he fights for and why. He’ll carry that with him, forever❤🖤!
When i first saw this, i cried my eyes out 😭. Shadow's final goodbye to Gerlad and Maria. It's both heartbreaking and touching, a roller coaster of emotions.
Because if she didnt, it wouldnt make sense to the OG generations story, just think about it. Shadow had the FAKE emerald while waiting for sonic in the original game, and now here, we know how Shadow got the fake chaos emerald. So if rouge told sonic he has a fake chaos emerald, Sonic would confront shadow about it for the 2nd time, and in the original game they only faced off once

Oddly, even after knowing the final stage was inside it- I was still somewhat looking forward to seeing what kind of monstrosity Doom was cooking up underneath that giant metal ball thing 😔oh well Kind of saw the loss of his powers coming though, makes sense cuz Forces and that the Arms are a hive mind. But maybe they're just dormant or something and he has to awaken them on his own without Doom's influence.🤷🏾

Oh wow, Kirk's performance was really underwhelming in the last few min. Koji Yusa knocked it out of the PARK as usual, and Shadow's animations showed that Kirk's meanwhile is just.... weak here
It was underwhelming as a whole in my opinion; Rouge's VA doesn't sit right with me, either I figured Kirk's Shadow would eventually grow on me, but it never did

I know the entire storyline hasn’t been released yet at this time (Oct. 20th) to see any other small details we have missed but this ending does make me wonder. If Dr. Gerald retained his memories of all this then does that mean he knew he would fail in his plan to destroy the world since he knew the Shadow he met wasn’t of his time? If he did know the large possibility that time would remain unchanged regardless of his efforts then why did he go along with it when he knew it was doomed to fail? Did he really mean to destroy the people of Earth?

Based off of Archie Sonic issue 171, when Shadow cried when Maria's hologram was fading away.
He also cried in SA2 and Sonic X

The part where shadow tears up is beautiful, not because he's showing emotion but because i think its interpreted that he's finally allowing himself to grieve about Maria, because throughout shadow history he's always tried his hardest to not think about her because he thinks grieving about Maria (even in the ending of shadow 05 he tells himself that he needs to let go of her) he does this because he thinks thinking about Maria holds him back from his true potential, but this game shows us that shadow was wrong about that, holding maria in his heart is what truly makes shadow strong It's because of his care for maria that he was able to overcome black dooms darkness in the end, everytime maria comforts shadow in the game there is always light shining ON him, and near the end of the final boss fight shadow's body starts to glow bright, implying that marias light was now shining THROUGH him this time, and that's all because he was finally letting himself accept the past that he tried to constantly push away and that's honestly so beautiful, that's that kind of depth I love to see in sonic the hedgehog, some people think sonic stories being edgy, cool, and overall serious is what makes the stories so good, but that's wrong, it's the characterization, depth, and world building that we love to see, and in my opinion this game perfects it, which is why I'm so excited to see where this franchise goes next.

Sonic games before The Sonic Renaissance era started by Frontiers were Sonic facing badniks, eggman, robots, monsters, the government, aliens, demons, and even gods. Sonic games Frontiers onwards, all of those things are forced to face Sonic. In Shadow the Hedgehog 2005 Shadow is forced to face his past and Black Doom. In Shadow Generations, Shadows Past and Black Doom are forced to face Shadow.

Well, this part destroyed me. Shadow rarely cries or smiles, but when he does you know it’s truly genuine. How could he and I not? He got to see the two people who meant the most to him, whom he lost tragically long ago. Then had to say goodbye😭! It was inevitable, but Shadow wouldn’t have traded the chance to see them again for anything. I know he wouldn’t. Eggman might have unknowingly brought them back (and the black arms, idiot!) but it was a gift. Shadow has been reminded of what he fights for and why. He’ll carry that with him, forever❤🖤!

When i first saw this, i cried my eyes out 😭. Shadow's final goodbye to Gerlad and Maria. It's both heartbreaking and touching, a roller coaster of emotions.
Why did she need to switch the Emeralds without him noticing? Could’ve just said “hey you got the wrong Emerald, good luck”.
Because if she didnt, it wouldnt make sense to the OG generations story, just think about it. Shadow had the FAKE emerald while waiting for sonic in the original game, and now here, we know how Shadow got the fake chaos emerald. So if rouge told sonic he has a fake chaos emerald, Sonic would confront shadow about it for the 2nd time, and in the original game they only faced off once

If Shadow or Rouge told Sonic they bamboozled him and there ever came a chance they needed to do it again, there’s be less chance of it working a second time since Sonic would become aware the fake emerald could be in their presence.
If E-123 Omega is on ending in this game, he would help Shadow and Rouge find the Chaos Emeralds to defeat Black Doom.
