  • Aside from a rigging check down the runway, this was the first pattern flown by me on this machine. It was flying super slow, and I realized on crosswind that the steering lines were too tight, holding in some flare. I lowered the angle of attack and slowly finished the pattern back to runway to re-rig. This was followed by a successful flight, and rope ratchets were ordered the next day so this can be adjusted in flight from now on.

As soon as the wheels touch let off the flare, it will keep the nose from jumping back up. Nice machine, looks like fun.

Yeah, this was my first landing with this one. I'm not use to flying anything this light. I had one suggestion of landing engine out to prevent a prop strike from the rear of the cage hitting the ground. I have an APCO Cruiser and Lift that I'll try on this airframe once the instrumentation is complete this spring. Thanks for the tip!

@@toyotadiesel It was a nice landing, just saying the wheelie could be avoided by letting off the flare completely on touchdown. Same thing applies to any PPC, just the heavier ones might not be as sensitive. I've flown the Buckeye DM with PW500, Destiny Vision with Elan 500, and Destiny 2000 with Apco Dovetail and Cruiser 550. They will all pop a wheelie if you don't let off the brakes on time. Took me a while to learn that one, but now I can grease all my landings with ease. I've got lots of videos, most have tons of touch and go's as practice. Can't practice that enough! haha

I'm actually accustomed to the opposite. Full flare and pulling in lines after wheels touch. Otherwise the wing overflies the airframe. This is on an Airwolf with Cruiser 550.

@@toyotadiesel At touchdown your speed is still sufficient to generate lift with flare, so I let off then and either keep enough throttle to taxi or wait a few seconds to slow down before going into full flare and pulling lines to drop the wing. Guess everyone has their own methods that work. Only time I've had the wing try to overfly was after taxing when I steering into a tail wind.

Sounds sweet like a v-twin. What engine are you running?

Ben, I have flown a Dragonfly for about 7 years now and am looking for some tubing connecting hardware. Any ideas on where I might locate these Buckeye parts?
