  • Remembering Raymond Shulman, who left us a year ago today. Think of him with kindness.
The video features the track "Freedom's Child" which was written before Gentle Giant's first album. It is a ballad influenced by 1960's soul.

I'm 18 years old as of today, and I discovered Gentle Giant about 3 years ago while walking in the middle of Paris, and as a bassist I was absolutely entranced by the virtuosity ans magic that came from Ray's playing, it made the trip about as magical as it could be. And today I still love and adore Gentle Giant, it's left such an impact on me and I've been so inspired by everything Ray has contributed to the musical world. Peace and Love to Ray and all his friends and family ✌️

Nice to hear the younger generation are enjoying what Ray brought to music generally, he was a great bass player and multi faceted musician who was comfortable playing wind instruments as well as bass/guitars. Much missed.

A very touching and moving tribute . GG were one of my all time favourite Prog / Rock bands and l remember buying "Aquiring the Taste" back in the early 70's and being mightily impressed then . After that l stayed a devotee over the years and remain in awe of their inventive , adventurous and original music and their creativity and superb musicianship . They were in a class of their own and Ray was an integral part of this great and truly progressive band . RIP .

God Bless Ray. What an amazing musician. I was in total awe of him when I first saw Giant. 1975, Santa Monica Civic, for Power and the Glory. Ray did an insane violin solo and pieces of the bow were flying out into the orchestra pit. It was magical. I got to see them a few times and they always seemed to be enjoying themselves on stage. Fantastic concerts.

I'm a 14 years-old who's learning bass and pretending to play the violin just because of Ray Shulman. His basslines fill me with joy every time i play them, and i hope that when i become a violinist, i can play his compositions like he did. May his soul rest in peace.

All u guys are so wonderful and blessed with the multi-instrumental talent..I can play drums, some guitar, some keyboard...
    Gentle Giant:HOLD ME ALE!!😂
Hands down u guys are GREAT!!!Ray always seems happy and full of energy and just loves being in such a great band!!!yh it's not mainstream, BUT WHO CARES..it just proves its not about how good talent is!!if it's not snappy and poppy ,the the suites don't think it's gonna make money!!sooooo wrong, cause alot of us just love the MUSIC...these chaps made such great MUSIC!!!

Ray was truly a ‘gentle giant’ of musical talent. I’ve been a GG fan for decades, but it was only in recent years watching interviews that I learned that Ray was not only a brilliant multi-instrumentalist, he also wrote a large percentage of their best songs! The word genius is thrown around a lot, but I think Ray deserves that title. I am so thankful to Ray and the rest of GG for a huge legacy of truly amazing music.

I was fortunate enough to see The Boys in the Band many times during their tenure and was always amazed by Ray's incredible talent, versatility, and how easy and natural he made it all seem (as did the whole band). Gentle Giant radically transformed by musical perception, standards and expectations and still, 50+ years later, they remain my favorite band and, IMO, the GOAT!

Beautiful tribute, gentlemen; terrific choice as well in underpinning it with "Freedom's Child," as it features some of Ray's sweetest violin lines. Just yesterday I was listening to "As Old As You're Young" and focusing (again) on the bass part... and as usual, shaking my head in wonder, thinking "who else but Ray could have come up with something that INSANE, yet perfect for the song." What a brilliant, imaginative, creative mind; still grateful it was unleashed on the world. ❤
