The first time I watched this film I really didn't see Ian's sacrifice in giving the last moment with their dad to Barley coming. This is one of my most favorite culminating moments in all of Pixar and Disney.
X2
it was decent nothin special imo
Sameeee!!!
The part where Ian didn't get to actually talk to his dad was disappointing, but then again, it made me learn that you can't always get what you want.
Almost everyday I wake up reading a sentence by story artist Emna Coates: "We amdire a character for trying more than for their successes". This scene is where my mind automatically goes to.
as an exercise in empathy, rewatch the movie, but focus on the older brother instead of the younger brother. notice his intentions rather than his younger brother's disapproval. why is he overly involved in his younger brother's life? why does he worry so much about him when, despite his social anxiety, the younger brother is more adjusted and better prepared to enter adulthood? what made the difference for them?
the answer is spelled out by the final scene, but try to imagine how difficult it must have been for the oldest brother to reach adulthood without a father figure. and imagine how much he loved his younger brother that he never stopped to realize that in attempting to spare him those same difficulties he inadvertently raised him while raising himself.
if you notice at the end, both brothers laugh at the wizard name their father would have chosen. it shows you that what his father tells him is very accurate: the younger brother is who he is because of his older brother.
that's how you know that the hug he says to give him is not for the younger brother's sake. he tells his son to hug his bother not for him, but as the person more apt to be called his father.
the older brother seems aloof or bewildered by it because it wasn't something he set out to be. he just looked out for his little brother, helped him avoid his mistakes and be better than him in life, which, unbeknownst to him, is what all good fathers aim to do.
Message's "It's not always about you."
@@sergioflip3497why did you make me cry on your essay?
I love this movie! And this ending is one of the best scenes in my opinion. It’s just so nice to see Barley and Ian get what they needed the most: for Ian, someone to look up to, and for Barley, getting the closure he so well deserved. I really hope more ppl give this movie a chance and more love and recognition. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Me too
I agree!!
💗
The first scene in a movie that absolutely broke me.
Yes I am a emotionless rock when it comes to movies
Me too!!! This scene really brought me to tears!!!
Onward is a really Underrated Film!
Well I needed a good cry today. This ending is fantastic.
u seriously cried 😂
This movie really resonated with me. I will admit that by disney standards it isn’t the most memorable movie. But it really did move me. As someone who lost their dad and who is also a big sibling this movie made me realize how important my role is. I am the one who will show my little sister the love my dad had for her. The memories my dad and I shared can be passed down through me as she grows up. I am sad that she was never able to know my dad but I am glad that I get to know her.
I think looking back, the idea that Ian met his dad as just a pair of legs makes sense because legs are for moving forward and onward. He is feeling his dads presence without actually knowing his dad fully. The top half is where our heart and mind are and that’s where Barley fits in. He brings their dad’s heart and mind into Ian’s life as they move on from the loss.
This movie made me proud to be a big sister. I couldn’t ask for a greater gift
Every Pixar film, like this, gets me everytime...❤️😔🥺😩
This scene is EVERYTHING 😭💖💙
Are your okay
@H I K A M A R U 🅾️ don t worry
I feel like this movie kind of flew under the radar given the time of its release was March 2020 - but it is by FAR one of the best PIXAR movies. Definitely top 5 for me. Especially gets ya in the feels if you have a sibling that you’re close to.
This is why I loved Pixar, they really get you into tears, and I cry during this wonderful scene of Onward.
I feel like I’m always like “Yeah, I don’t think I’ll cry this ti- OH MY GOD I CAN’T STOP CRYING”
I feel like when a Pixar movie is more like you, you’re more likely to cry.
Sometimes, brothers and sisters are like parental figures
True that. 😉👍
Even cousins to a degree
The hug in the storyboard feels so soft and full of love.
Sometimes, its the simplest lines who deliver the best message, shotout to the storyboard artists for drawing how it will feel on our hearts!
This has to be my favorite Disney/Pixar movie by default.
When *Peter Parker* and *Peter Quill* were Brothers in a another 'verse of the great, grand multiverse.
This scene makes me cry 😢 😭 💔 🤧 😪 it's always the Disney Pixar movies that make you cry
Me too
This scene makes me cry everytime 😭😭😭
Me too
THIS MOVIE 💜💜💜
imma go nuts next time i see someone compare it to good dinosaur, this movie deserves ALL the love!!!
It's so interestig how make this scene so wonderfull: first is just a storyboard, then pass to a lot animation testes, until finally you can all see complety togheter; this scene is really relatable for me and all of my family. Is this not brotherhood love or a father figure relantionship like a brother and sister or anyone else, i don't know what it is???. I really personaly love this movie❤❤👌👌👏👏👍👍, thank you Pixar.
A Brother Hug 🥺😢😭🥲😩 It’s So Heartwarming
Onward is the best movie i have ever seen
I cried when ian realized that barley was his father figure and then when barley met with his dad and hugs ian
When I saw this in the theatre I BALLED I’m still crying watching this I just think it’s so beautiful & sweet and when he said that his dad was proud of who he has become I sobbed even harder
One of my favorite Pixar films, it came out right when COVID hit and I feel it needs more love, this animation alone had me crying. I think a big part of it is I am at the coming of age moment in college and I really appreciate this story of loss and growth. Those of us who don’t have a mom or dad figure have family friends and siblings there to guide us and be that person 🤍
I wish we could all get that one last moment with our Dad 😭❤️ thanks Pixar for a beautiful film. Lived an alternate world of hope atleast for those 2 hours
It almost made me cry. 😭
This scene makes me wish I could bring back my grandma and grandpa, I miss them dearly! :(
I wish I could bring my dad, I miss him so much! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Ahhh i'm crying again!!
It’s amazing to see how these incredible scenes were made! Just makes watching them so much better
Yes!
Best emotional scene in Pixar movie history! 🥺😁😊
Owww! My heart! 😭 💔
Makes me cry every time I watch this scene 🥲
This is the Saddest part of the Movie, I felt like I wanna cry while watching this scene but I didn't cry, But now is the second time for me Watching this and I feel like I rly wanna cry😌😌
IMO, Barley's smile at 2:50 is the best part
I watch the movie onward and it was a blast
I can’t look at Wilden Lightfoot the same way after watching that “Everyone Looks Like Markiplier” video.
This is probably one of the most powerful things a Pixar character has ever done. Ian getting to know his father would have been nice, but c'mon Barley having the closure he's never had is the real ending of this film. So satisfying and beautiful. Kudos to Pixar.
I loveyou pixar 🥺🥺❤️❤️😩✨
for me this is the best scene from the best movie ever made by pixar
Ian's very lucky to have a brother like Barley. ☺️
Right?
Kind, supportive, encouraging, adventurous, silly sometimes. He's a brother among brothers
incredible. I'm very interested in animations, you guys make the sketch and then animate and then do the artwork. Just wonderful. One day I will be a professional entertainer.
I really miss the good old movies
This was very heart touching. 🥺🥺❤️❤️
Onward is a great movie!😆
My favorite element about any cartoon or animation/movie is the element of family since this reminds me of how much I love my family.
Never expected this movie to break my heart
This scene really gets ya right there.
This is such a BEAUTIFUL scene
Happy 33rd Anniversary Disney's "Oliver and Company" (November 17, 1988)!!!!!!!!!!!!
And Happy 32nd Anniversary Disney's "The Little Mermaid" (November 17, 1989)!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most wholesome scene pixer ever created
Aw I love seeing how this scene has transformed from sketches to this masterpiece :)
Pixar: lágrimas 100% garantizadas.
This movie left me crying for a whole week.
One of the best scenes from modern pixar
Who on Earth could hit dislike for this video??😭
Beautiful😭😭
This is one of my favorites scenes in a movie ever. It made me rethink what was actually important in real time along with the main character. It's just genius and also yes I'm crying rewatching this scene again, who's asking?
That scene just warmed my heart🥲🙂
Watched this movie for the first time two months after my own father had passed away, needless to say I bawled like a baby during this scene. It may not be one of Pixar’s better movies, but it still holds up for me
I love this movie is so wonderful and emotional i love Onward 😭😭😭😭😭😢😢😢😢😊😊😊😊💝💝💝💝💝💝💝
Could you do Ian vs the Curse Dragon Side by Side Please?
So wholesome 🥺❤️
I cried at the part where Barley said goodbye to his dad. I lost my father unexpectedly and I never got to say goodbye to him. What I would give for just a few moments.
Best movie ever
My father was never there for me, but I don't care. Because I still had a loving mom, grandparents, aunts and uncles to love and supporty me, just like how I love and support my own little brother (he was born from a different father than my own) and I'll never stop being there for him, even in tough times.
Amazing ^^
I wonder if there'll be another side by side next time but with The Manticore's tavern?
Este es la escena en la que me puse a llorar 😔
Pixar l was wondering if we will have more animations in future years? like 2023 or 2024 because i love your animations and i love you Pixar too you are my favorite company, l´am always drawing the characters from my childhood mostly my favorite Animation Wall - E
Really wasn’t expecting the big brother to get to see him and I love it
Ian wanted to give Barley a second chance to say goodbye. He had realized Barley had been acting like a father all through Ian’s life. He was always there for his little brother. Looking out for him and encouraging him to be more than he ever thought he could. Ian never had a father, but he always had his big brother.
aw how nice :)
Aw, Chantars Talon! My heart! 😭
2:39 I did not expect this I'm instan crying in this scene ❤️
Onward disney pixar
I Love This Scene
Heart warming ❤️
Such a great me and dad enjoy it
Really great moment
But so sad tho
Lovely 😍
This scene broke me
Before I even saw this, I could tell Ian wasn’t going to be able to talk to his dad. But… I wish they got to see each other at least. I thought maybe, the father would turn around once he’s fully formed and sees Ian all grown up. The father would then smile and Ian would too with a tear dripping down his cheek. And that is when the father would fade away. I really wish the father got to know what Ian looked like.
Nice I love😁
Wow!
The best 😊😊😊
This was the last movie I saw in theaters
