I think what they are talking about is that the main adventure isn't just about joy and sadness. If anything, the new emotions we see are sereving the same purpose Disgust, anger, and fear had in the first film. Unintentional antagonists
I think it's really heartwarming that Joy has fully accepted Sadness for who she is, and how important she is for Riley. And I like already how Fear and Anxiety are fearful/worried about two completely different things: Fear is worried for more concrete concerns in the present, anxiety is worried about more abstract concerns that could or could not be in the future. Fear is worried about the possibility that Riley could get hit in the mouth with a hockey puck (which is rational and easily fixed), Anxiety is worried that if Riley does not make a good first impression on the cool kids that in the future she will not be popular/have friends (which is irrational but feels oh so important now that she has to or else she will be thinking about it for the next year).
which is precisely what differs anxiety from fear. anxiety is the fear of the future (possible things that could happen - abstract) while basic fear is the fear of an imminent threat, one that’s seen already.
I feel Fear also represents reason to some degree, as he's kind of an in-between emotion (Being their during good and bad occasions). He was the only one to openly criticize Anger's idea of running away in the first movie
i mean... that is exactly what the definition of fear and anxiety is. fear is a response to a perceived threat (e.g. you see a tiger while walking in the jungle) and anxiety is the worry of a threat that has not yet or may never happen (e.g. you are heading to the jungle and scared about the fact that you might encounter a tiger). hope that helps!
Seeing Envy being personified as a teeny tiny cutesy adorable emotion makes me think that her thing is that she transforms into BIG BAD GREEN-EYED MONSTER WITH SCARY TEETH AND FANGS AND AN ATTITUDE when she hits her breaking point.
I watched inside out 1 when i was a kid and as a kid i liked it but inside out 2 got me crying it was deeper because of the new emotions. This movie was the BEST
The best part about this is that we can freely give our comments here, showing the actual audience it's trying to achieve here and I appreciate that. Inside Out was one of my favourite films as a kid and I remember replaying it every time during car trips, it was that good. Here I'm hoping the sequel proceeds to be as good as its predecessor.
I really like the new emotion's designs, especially Envy having such giant eyes like she's admiring everyone around her. I also love how Embarrassment is a giant creature who always wants to feel tiny, kinda like how you feel like when you get emabrrassed.
1:28 this is genuinely the first time I've ever seen a teenage character with acne but where its just a normal part of their design and not a visual gag or being made fun of and it honestly made me so happy to see it
For those of you who want to nitpick this movie, I am genuinely glad that this movie doesn’t resonate with you in the way it does to me. The particulars with which we struggle with our emotions, so unique to each of us - and I for one struggle with anxiety all the time - I feel that this is the best representation of emotion I’ve ever seen. so I would love to see you guys make a script that apparently does this better, but I have yet to see anything of substance that makes me feel so seen in a world that is ready to judge and criticize anyone that doesn’t measure up.
I watched the full movie, and I can’t believe how much it made me cry!! The first one came out when I was younger and things were therefore a lot easier. This is the only movie I’ve ever watched that I can truly relate to, because it shows how messy growing up can be. Things get harder, you start to feel things you’ve never experienced before, like anxiety. But it’s also a good reminder to embrace all parts of yourself
Bro 10 years ago I watched this movie with my family members in the cinema as a 10 year old boy, now I’m a 20 years old man and some of the family members I watched this with have either passed away or started families of their own. And funny at the same time, but also deep, wish i had seen this movie younger.... i cried so much watching this and this younger generation of kids are blessed to grow up with movies about emotions ❤🙏
No one is talking about how the adults have the original 5 emotions, showing how strong these new ones are during your development years and also explaining why we didn't see these new ones in the first movie. Very nice to details!
I don’t think it’s why they’re not in the first movie (I think they thought of them after the first movie & that’s why), but previous repliers totally missed your point. I believe OP’s theory is that these emotions get so strong during your developmental years that they split off into their own embodiments of emotions, like how anxiety would possibly normally be created by fear & sadnesses, but because the feeling of anxiety is so strong, it becomes its own emotion character. Then, unless the adult feels this emotion really strong on the regular, the emotion disappears. It’s probably not the intended plot but I think the theory makes some sense. Hope this was understandable. 👍🫶
You like that? This movie is exactly what I feared it would be, a bunch of tired ol' teenage tropes. Plus a girl main character, because it's soooo eeeasy to make a movie depicting the emotional conflicts of a teenage girl.

When the first one ended, I immediately wanted a sequel to show Riley's emotions as she hit puberty. I'm so excited for this! I'm still traumatized by Bing Bong, so I hope there's no more trauma in this one.
I know you’re joking, but I hate it when people take the word Trauma, lightly :/ please use other words. Bing Bong doesn’t quite compare to sa, isolation or anything other people who have gone through worse. Sorry to be that guy but yeah
I would love it if in this movie, Riley is talking to a friend about childhood memories and says, "I know I had an imaginary friend, but for the life of me, I can't remember his name!" Giving a not-so-subtle nod to Bing-Bong.

2:04 This is even worse emotional damage than that from the first movie Riley's mind is LITERALLY falling apart from the whirlwind of new emotions Genius little detail that really isn't so little
Love Pixar for establishing fear and anxiety as two very different emotions. They're too commonly grouped together as synonyms rather than acknowledged as distinctive feelings.
I actually making an art thesis about Anxiety Disorder right now. And man.. there's a lot of pages to explain why "Anxiety " and "Fear" are two different thing.
What I appreciate about the first movie, they could have made Fear a total chicken-wuss (brilliant vocab, I know), but he knows he has a job to do. That part where Riley starts to run away for the bus near the end, and he stops her like "are we sure we want to do this?". That, I liked. Shows Fear has a brain. I guess there's fear (one's own safety, somebody's safety, etc), and there's cowardice.
This movie is unbelievably good. I’m 17 years old and I thought I wouldn’t like it. Just watched it on my own and let me tell you that the emotional breakdown scene near the end is super realistic. The complete lack of control and balance makes your whole body shake and you just don’t know what to do to the point your head hurts from it. I have been through it and it amazes me how good it was 10/10 movie i gained a lot of confidence watching it
I wasn't quite sure if a second Inside Out was necessary, but there's clearly a lot to explore in regards to puberty and emotional development as a teenager. I could see this being Pixar's first genuine financial hit in 5 years a la "Toy Story 4", but only time will tell.
Onward could've been a hit had it not been for the pandemic and Soul, Luca and Turning Red weren't released theatrically as they premiered exclusively on Disney Plus. They were only finally released theatrically this year.
I love the idea of literal personification of anxiety throwing out other emotions in favour of itself, very good analogy of real life for many. Also can't wait for _exsistential dread_ as an emotion, *my favourite!*

as a teenageer, calling Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear "surpressed emotions" is actually so realistic and this is the first disney movie im excited for in ages.
We could have have had excitement to balance out anxiety or Giddy(repressed joy). I think depression is a mixture of sadness, fear and anxiety. I also believe she will later get boyfriend/girlfriend and gain lust. I'm suprised that shock(suprise)is not currently an emotion.
Emotional baggage Bottled emotions The SarCasm! The amount of literal emotional jokes in the trailer alone is insane! This gonna be epic, props to the writers!
The fact that they waited 9 years to release the second one now that most of us who grew up with this movie are teenagers now adores me. Like when I was a kid I could relate so much to Inside Out but now I'm a teenager and only this trailer is so relatable.
My only critique would be it's a bit of a retread of the first film, in that regard. Joy tried to bottle sadness by drawing that ring around her, and then they were both stuck in long-term memory. The place the main five emotions are sent looks pretty similar to me.
The way Anxiety said that her job is to "plan for the future" is soo accurate realistically, always trying to predict future situations at the expense of wasting time in present reality.

I have a theory. So envy starts out all small and cute with sparkles in her eyes and a little voice. Well what if the more she wants, and the more they feed into her, she gets bigger and meaner and like won’t stop at any costs. I think that could possibly play a role in her character.

@relzoid4128 all you shills think everything looks good til suddenly it's not.
What I appreciate about the first movie, they could have made Fear a total chicken-wuss (brilliant vocab, I know), but he knows he has a job to do.
