I really like the final cut. Not because it's final, but you see different facials and scenes than on the storyboard. Like how Barley looks more terrified and crying than nervously smiling for his brother. It's nice.
The main attribute of barleys character in this story is that he’s “the big one, who isn’t afraid of anything.” In this scene, he was truly scared to lose his brother. He must really care about Ian.
not me shedding tears because of this comment......
I love how expressive Barley is in the story board!
Ian is just jumping around having fun like "I AM NOT AFRAID" and Barley is on the other side like
*"I very much am"*
you gies are stupied
LOL
Barley is such a daddy
@@PussInBootsTheLastWishFan2003 I agree
Ian: you still got that rope right?
Barley: Nope your on your own
Someone else loves when barley says "Oh, but did you?"
Yes it's funny.
I love him so much!!! 😍💙 Also because I too would have answered like him! Ahahahahah
🤣🤣🤣 Well done, sweet blue elf 💖👍🏻
I loved that smug as heck look he had in the Animatic when he said that! Like he was trying hard to be as wry as possible to hide how worried he was.😆
This is the first time we see Barley drop the fearless act.
Because he has something very important to him to lose
@@Deathbatman yeah, he didn't want to lose his brother too
Role reversal, Ian was fearless and Barley was afraid and nervous
Of course, he was terrified of losing his little brother, to the point he even was tearing up.
Seeing Barley cry gets me everytime..
The way Barley started crying shows how much he really cares for Ian.
Well DOI their brothers
@@kaileyclasen8323 Well not ALL brothers are like that
It's a cartoon
I hope any brother would care if their brother had a chance of falling to their death.
@@mikekaty2558 So?
This film was legitimately really good, I respect the amount of hard work that this must've taken to properly animate.
dude hello i saw you in like, 3 other comment sections
This is probably one of my favourite movies
It’s you
Just Some Guy without a Mustache old friend
Just Some Guy without a Mustache I remember you
I always feel Barley's anxiety when I watch this scene. Even though I know Ian is gonna make it, I always gasp when Ian misses that last step.
Same. Like when you watch movies like this and there’s any type of near death thing, even when the sprites were attacking them, I get so scared even though we all know they’re going to get through it. But I still feel like they might die.

Hi my name is Abraham my name is Abraham now our girl John C that we are in the styles fight
I thought that Barley was pure big-sibling energy when he picked Ian up from school. I knew that Barley was pure big-sibling energy when he had to keep encouraging his brother while he himself was scared to tears.
Barley: now we have a rope, you're not even going to need it but-
Ian: *I WANT THE ROPE*
that made me wheeze idk why
XD
lol
Hah
I loved this scene, not only for the tension, but, for showing how strong Ian and Barleys relationship is.
Hecham Haidar Yeah. Up until this point I thought that Barley didn’t care for his brother, but when Barley is clearly nervous when the rope falls I realized that they had a strong relationship.
More like the Love of the older Brother....
@@SloppyJoe-ke7gq How did you think this? I'm really curious because he always seemed super protective, encouraging and sweet to Ian to me
💙
@@alessiocece2098 It might seem so, but for me it isn't so... the point is that Barley shows his feelings differently than Ian, and also, the latter still had to understand who he really was and hadn't even realized that for him, Barley has always been a father! However, this doesn't mean that he didn't care for him
, and I can say this also because I see myself in both, therefore I can understand them really well ✨💜
@@flowersoul6894 😍💖 beautiful!
I can only imagine the fear of losing his brother in that moment, after already losing his dad.
Wow…never thought about it like that
Indeed! That's why Barley start to cry, fearing that he might lose him in any second.😰
Honestly that is one of the best scene of the movie and maybe it’s even my favorite.... the way Barley cries but still tries to have his confident and fearless tone while he might lose his brother it’s so touching to me. Idk it makes me so emotional, his expression are just so incredible... they really show how strong he really is and how much he loves and care about Ian. Amazing stuff.
Disney you made it once again...
i’m sorry but the facial expressions are just so much funnier in the animatic
4:02 like look. that is literally a meme right there
You can't possibly understand how much I want the line "I WANT THE ROPE" to become a meme.
Lol
01:33+01:34 he’s shaken with fear
How can it be used?
😤Oh no you NintenDON'T!😤
Ian is a whole meme of his own
Barley crying because he thought Ian was going to die broke me inside
Remember when Barley said to Ian that he promised to himself he wont be afraid ever again? (when they were having a heart to heart convo on floating cheeto)
I think he was afraid at that moment. When he started crying, something broke inside me and I started crying too
From the first Pixar short of a lamp to Onward, it's amazing how the animation improved :D

Yooo the first time I saw this and Barley started tearing up was PURE STRESS
Thos scene reminds me of a few weeks ago when I was in Tennessee, there was this obstacle course thingy that had bridges and a zip line. When I got to the zipline I felt like Ian was feeling before he stepped on that invisible bridge. Even though there was a rope attached to me I still hesitated, but when I saw my parents cheering me on, I just prayed for bravery and went across. I'm glad i did because it was AWESOME!
They truly showed their bond here, the brotherhood is strong with this one
Brilliant how they managed to turn a classic cartoon trope (character falls only after realizing there's no floor anymore) into something emotionally moving and meaningful (trust in oneself).
I like how they scratched the "coming soon" banner😂
🌸.+Because it's too modern.+.🌸
Every father showing his children to ride a bicycle.
This movie was so good, their bond was awesome.
I love how when Barely why pullibg up the rope its was just fear and panic but as soon as ian turned it was just "now you know the worst thing but your ok so nothing to fear!"
3:24 I said "Surprise!" in that scene.
Lol😂
I love how Barley is crying while Ian is walking across
Their bond is stronger than other siblings combined.
It's sweet.😍❤️❤️❤️
*da rope came lose from Ian*

Barley crying cause he was scared, that got me
Mee too! It got me every time whenever I watch this scene!
I laughed so hard when the rop came undone and Barley started crying😂😂
I cracked up a little when Barley was holding the rope and looking like he was about to cry when he said, “Yeah, I got it!”
yall are heartless😭
Barley was afraid!!(laughing in sillyness.)😆💙
I mean... Barley wasn’t lying when he said he had the rope. 🤔
From now on Ian has trust issues with Barely and bridges AND ropes
“You still got the rope, right?”😃
“Yeah, I got it!”😰
Wow, that wasn’t even a lie!
My hands were shakin so badly and I was scared
Barley’s expressions in the animatic *sent me*
part of the charm of this movie i seeing ian learn all the magic tricks, especially the final arc battle..that was really amazing
Animation is a lot more complicated than it looks
The "New Bridge, Coming Soon" concept is scratched out during the layout process.
🌸.+Because it's too modern.+.🌸
My anxiety was on the roof when i was watching this scene.
3:17 was he crying
Yup 🥺
You can tell even more when he says “Dad” in that moment. Like he was very close to breaking down there.
@@keijijohnson9754 im sorry but I literally laughed on that part 🤣
He was crying because he was afraid of losing Ian. That's why.
@@themoongirl2224and it made me tear up as well
I was so scared during this scene that I almost didn’t watched it, the animation is just so well made, so realistic.
I really enjoyed this movie!! That's my favorite one of movie. I always wait for Pixar's movies that's the reason why I love it.
Did u guys agree with me?
⬇️
I totally agree! I love 'Onward' - it's beautiful, funny and touching. :-)
If I agree with you? Well, look, Onward is "just" my 2nd favourite movie ever!!!

I’m sad, Onward is underrated, just like The Good Dinosaur
I love Onward and The Good Dinosaur
Hi
Animation in Pixar is really good!
Best movie ever can’t wait for the sequel
Sorry, but Pixar are done with making sequels. They're going to be focussing on originals now.
It's my 2nd favourite movie *EVER!!!* I love it infinitely and beyond, it touched my soul 😭💔 I too would like to see a sequel of Onward! ✨💜👍
Sam Kilpatrick They did say if Onward did well, they would consider making one, but-
:(
They'd BETTER make a sequel! If Toy Story got a 4th film this gem deserves a 2nd.
@@AnaandVerity1259 Yeah, but this movie has so much potential for a sequel, or maybe a TV series (I know they don't make them for Pixar movies but maybe it could be the first?). It's undoubtedly a great story as it is, but there's so much of this world to explore and so many adventure/quest possibilities. Also, this movie focused so much on these two brothers that the creators actually had to cut out another character who was supposed to be their companion. They could still use that idea in a sequel though, or they could develop the characters they already introduced like Ian's classmates, or even introduce some completely new characters. I don't know, I just feel like there's a lot they can do as a continuation.
I'm glad Ian made it crossed the magic bridge Barley must be proud of him.
Pull the lever Iandore! 3:35 🤭
it gets me everytime when barley says "you can do it" i love their bond 🥺
ITS increadible the final result✨
3:10 “I am not afraid!”
@Julie Castro IT's Ian with an I
3:15 That part laugh me laugh so hard cuz I DID NOT expect him to do that. Btw this whole scene is my favorite part of the movie.
Ian did that move had terrified Barley even more.🤣
I love ONWARD!
It's funny when ian didn't That His big brother barley was scared And he began to cry a bit!😆😆😆😆
Who cried?
Interesting to see the "new bridge" concept not being used. It's funny but in the context of the scene and area I can see why
🌸.+Because it's too modern.+.🌸
1:49 I'm surprised his back didn't snap when Barley pulled the rope.
I love this movie! I just got the Bluray and DVD yesterday!

I cry every time I watch this movie, because brothers in the real life aren't such good friends like in this movie, me and my sisters and brother don't have a good relationship like ian and barley
my heart crushed at this scene. I find it the best scene i ever saw in animated pixar movie.
Loved Onward so it’s nice seeing the sketches compared to the final product
It's really when ian didn't know that barley was afraid.😆
Indeed! 🤣
IAN: Barley.
BARLEY: Ian.
My hands always get sweaty when I watch this scene

OMG Barley's face in the animatic (2-d) part! It looks like an artist on social media would draw face!
I LOVE ONWARD SO MUCH!!! :D
If Barley was a real person, I'd want him to be my husband. He's my favorite character with such a great personality.

YASSS LOVE THIS MOVIE ❤️❤️❤️❤️
when barley started tearing up, aw..
Wish I could watch the entire movie as the story boards honestly, I love seeing how different the original plans were!
I remember when I first saw this film I was clutching hard to my seat and I even shed a tear cus i didnt want Ian to fall
I remember my first time seeing onward too, I cried soooooooo much inside, I'd love to have that good relationship with my sisters and brothers but they hate each others
This is my favorite, most harrowing scene from the movie, THANK YOU for posting this Pixar!!!!
Love the film
Agreed 2nd best Movie of 2020 behind SONIC THE HEDGEHOG
I finally saw the full movie of Onward earlier this month, it seemed to be one of the most unique movies of Pixar, in general. And just so you know, I think this is my new record for not crying during a full movie, especially Pixar. There are positive sides to this movie too.
You can see how much is improved upon but I love how their expressional work is already established
Honesty, I kinda prefer the animatic’s expressive facial expressions and visual gags over the actual movie
Interesting seeing how the concept of the scene is a little different from the final version
What does Oswald the lucky rabbit's plane crazy and onward have in common?
Walking on air and looking down and falls only one diffrence, onward has a invizable bridge
I love this scene
At least I saw this film in theaters. Probably the last Pixar movie I'll ever see.
