2:56 I’m glad that the bridge abutment of the ditton priors bridge on the right is still here and everyone driving down Kidderminster road can see it as they drive by
Thanks for the video. I am originally from Stottesdon and have the book you featured. Duddlewick has a lovely embankment where it crosses the river. The field between the track and the road is now covered with trees. It was the football pitch of Stottesdon FC for a while when I was a boy.
Great video about cleobury, I live in cleobury and work at the old covenanty boarding school just out side cleobury, now called Pioneer centre, the reason that I'm contacting you is that on our basketball court one can clearly see the marks in the tarmac were a narrow gauge line has gone ,very clear in the winter, and obvious that the sleepers are still there, the kids back in the day of the Coventry school back in the 50s world call it the ghost railway, I think it's the supply line for the Elan water pipe that goes directly under our site ,how ever having watch your peace on the Shrewsbury to clee hill and the narrow gauge branch. I now have second thoughts, would be fascinated to learn more.
Just found your video, excellent bit of work there! I live in Oreton and regularly walk around parts of it at Detton and Stottesdon. I'd love to walk the whole route one day and film it if i could get permission of the landowners!
walked most of the route 30 odd years ago ,was more things about then giving you how things where placed ,the ropeway course can still be traced and there are good areas where the base pieces are still on view catherton common is a good place to view them
I believe the aerial ropeway was used to transport coal. As someone else has commented, parts of it are still visible if you know where to look. Stone from the quarries went the other way down an inclined plane toward the Hereford to Shrewsbury line.
At 7:28 when you’re looking in the direction of the field if you had gone across there you would have seen the best part of evidence of the track on this entire route. The embankment is very obvious for a good 150 metre stretch through the field past the tree line. You missed the best part..
Only now found this very interesting video. I understand that spark arresters were fitted to locomotives that serviced an Admiralty ammunition store at Ditton. Is this correct?
If you ever fancy a good walk one day, I can show you a fair bit more than you managed to get to. There is a bit of evidence of the ariel ropeway still about but you need to know where to look!
It’s almost like when all of the lines closed under Beeching, it was a definitive effort to make a statement that railways were in the past and huge effort to prevent any possibility to bring them back into service. When you think of all of the greed and corruption in the high echelons of the political realm I’ll bet that many brown envelopes and back handers exchanged during the 60s

Thanks for your comments Gordon. We must catch up one day, I'd like to see that evidence of the ropeway.
