Teller's face had me giggling. lit up like a little kid seeing his first magic trick. that in itself is some high praise, man. but then again i was probably making a similar face. i LOVED this. perfect combination of magic tricks and theater.
Absolutely loved the presentation! Original and you full on committed to the bit turning the whole routine from a “standard” coin routine to a genuine piece of theatre. Love it!
I love this performance. I am also studying your book, and I especially appreciate the sleights as well as the structure of the routine. Wishing you good health, Dr. Rubinstein.
Thank you! Glad you are enjoying the book. The nice thing about the routine as you can see in the book, is that there are other ways to perform it. I especially like the impromptu version. Have fun with it!
@@rubinsteincoinmagic It seems most of the time with coin magic, its a "hey watch this" sort of situation. Really love the parable explained with magic. Just beautiful.
Yes. The producers selected the routine because they wanted to show the story. The fooling part is really only a gimmick for the public, the producers only care that the participants put on a good show and make sure the performers understand this.
If you've ever studied in coin magic deeply, you would know the details that Michael put into this routine, and there are some details that P&T can't explain. Usually people think that they know how it's done if they can explain 80 percent of the magic(even if they still have 20 percent that they can never explain.) Real masters believe that 20 percent of the true mystery that other magicians can't explain makes a difference and put the essence of magic in it.
They are King George English pennies from the 1920s, all were that size until the Queen Elizabeth pennies made in 1967. Now they are no longer made. They are actually bronze, and were gold plated.
Per my understanding, he was dropping gold coins into the cup during the routine, but in the end they all had turned into copper.. so that was the magic!
The gold coins have just turned back into copper coins, because of the selfishness of the protagonist. Putting the coins back into the cup is timed with the Serling monologue to bring a conclusion to the routine, and also serves to show the hands empty and both sides of the coins. It would not make sense for the story to have the coins change back to gold, or to chinese, etc.
This guy is the real deal! When PENN said SPELLBOUND in his explanation, I knew they knew. He fooled me at the end though, because even though I’m familiar with the original method he used something outside of my magical pay grade! Excellent patter! Excellent execution! Bravo! 🪄🔮🎊🪅🎉💜🔥👍🏾❤️
Thank you. The routine is based on an idea of magician David Roth, so I knew going in that they would know that. The producers wanted me to present this because of the story, and they came up with the Twilight Zone visual intro, which really highlighted the act. Had to call it the Fool Us Zone, though, for copyright reasons. Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks so much! Be sure to check out my latest Penn and Teller spot, called The Other Hand, performed on season 9 episode 6!

Doctor, you nailed the expressions of the narrator from the Twilight Zone haha. Your trick was also fantastic!
Thank you so much. It is more than a trick; it's a story. Glad you enjoyed it!

Thank you for bringing the Twilight Zone. It was very interesting. Great presentation & showmanship!
Thanks so much!
The rhythm of the moves intertwined with the story was real magic! I also appreciate the detailed explanation of all the coin magic in your book.
Thank you! I try to incorporate each gesture with the patter. I hope you are getting some good stuff out of the book!
The real magic is a guy that fixes tge animals you love.
Thank you.
The story telling is great.
Thank you Jared. The point of the trick was to tell a story, and let the magic illustrate the story.

🤍👌🏽💙👍🏼😊
Nice story with very smooth moves..... but you had to know you weren't going to fool them with sleight of hand.

Apart from the magic, the voice acting was pretty damn good too! 🙂
Thanks, I tried to write the intro so it would sound like Serling. Hard to do Rod Serling with a Bronx accent, but hey, whaddyagonnado... 😊
Those look like awfully large pennies what kind of coins are those actually and do you use real gold coins as well ?

Can’t watch something with
unsynchronised sound.
No problem on my end. If you are listening with bluetooth using buds, sometimes there is a disparity.
What was the point of the end where he just dropped the coins into the cup? Was hoping for a reveal that they changed back into gold or something

This is SO GOOD!
Thank you Gnarls!
This is one of the best non foolers on the show imo
Thank you Kyle! It is one of my favorite routines.

Great Coin Magic.
