- Super expensive roast in London Borough Market. Situated in the heart of London's Borough Market this Roast Beef Wellington was the best I have had. Without question - off the charts. Roast is serving up some serious quality food.

I adore Beef Wellington and suede and carrot mash! It looked superb actually. The mash was probably a tad colder because they pipe it out that’s my guess. Beautiful building and setting DJ. And you know what? We ALL spend whatever money we have or don’t have for that matter on what we want! Cigarettes, booze, the theatre, sports, the gym, holidays, choca whoka extra hot with sprinkles coffees!! You name it, we find money for what we all personally want in life. We go without something else so we can treat ourselves to a fine Beef Wellington! It’s a treat and we all need them in our lives. Good on you DJ. Can’t wait for the next one! 🥕🥔🥩🥂💜
I relish a positive comment Emma, seems everyone else want a supermarket meal 😂🙏🏼
@@DJsFoodTravelsmaybe your next one should be a supermarket meal deal!! 🤭🥪🍫🧃 🤦🏻♀️
I agree, Emma!! Don’t want to pay it, don’t go there. It’s that simple. 😊
"Suede" and Carrot Mash? ... That'll stick in your teeth! (Suede is a type of leather!)
I think you meant "Swede!" 🤣
@@DJsFoodTravels No, it's just that, £75 is EXTORTIONATE! ... You must be richer than I? (and I'm set for an inheritance valued at around £0.5M, but I still won't pay prices like that!).
Sorry but for that money to have mashed potato that wasnt hot is not accetable
There must be some steam coming off of it 😅
Sorry but that is snob price..... No green veg...come on!!
@gregjarvis3288 no expert on prices but a good fillet in a good restaurant is probably £40 alone. I would definitely treat myself to this over steak and chips.
Im definately going to go there with my son. It's good to treat yourself once in a while...you only live once. Eating quality food is a must.
The swirl off the mash is emoji evoking 😂
U.S. here. I had to look up what a 'Swede' was. 😆 It's rutabaga here in the states. I've always wanted to try Beef Wellington but never have. I thought about cooking it myself at home but was a bit intimidated. I've cooked prime rib roasts that came out really well but figured the beef wellington was out of my league. lol It looks SO delicious! As a woman with sons who were always hungry growing up and still are now that they're adults, (haha!), and who loves to cook, I've always enjoyed seeing people eat/enjoy good food. 😊😊 Thanks for the awesome videos, they're very relaxing and calming, and I enjoy going on all these adventures to places I've never seen!
Wow for £75 you must have a fantastic day job to be able to afford that .
Exactly what I thought!
My thoughts exactly
Or it was a paid review
Can't people just appreciate the content on your channel without judging what you are spending on meals? The main point of your content is obviously missed by them. (I enjoy your channel, & take your opinions on food with an open mind.) 💚
Good wine and good water also. These don't come cheap anywhere
Jesus £75 for that is unbelievable tbh. Looked like a £20 meal
They saw you coming pretentious price😢😢
I saw the headline and swerved the video because at £75 a pop that person is not gonna be sat watching youtube??😮
Spectacular setting, spectacular food for a spectacular price. Sometimes you do pay more for quality, but nine times out of ten it is worth it. The truffle mash and the carrot and swede crush particularly stood out. Borough Market is a class of it own.
off my chart thats ridiculousxx
DJ my personal pet hate in any restaurant is food that is warm not hot and it being served on a cold plate. Think I might have complained considering the price you paid.
I'm sure it tasted nice but any decent pub could whip that up for 1/4 the price mate. You should branch out of your London centric bubble from time to time and it may open your eyes to how you're being ripped off in London.
Well said ,pants down meal
Spice mountain I buy on line always! Only there in the market three weeks back! I love it 😍 Great food great location! Price…who cares as long as the quality is there, then why not pay for it Cheers 🍻
I don’t mind paying over the odds as long as the food is quality in a nice setting. In this instance both of those factors are satisfied 👍
Great review, confirms my choice for 30th anniversary lunch! :) x
As a Mancunian, I love my three times a year trips down to London ,its a fantastic city , and back in 2012 we found Borough Market by default , not because we were looking , but because we were walking over the bridge after visited the Shard , we actually smelt it before we saw it , and went to investigate , and we loved it , but bloody hell its expensive , all the stalls are expensive , but if I,m honest , street food all over the UK is the most expensive in the world anyway , , I couldn't afford to shop there every week , but its a fantastic place to visit , and I try to visit when ever I can or at least once a year .
Hi darren .
Beautiful place amazing meal.
Sorry the potatoes should not be cold.
Lacked green on the plate.
But happy you enjoyed.
Thanks darren.
Ann in Cumbria. 😊😊😊.
Expensive but you had quality.
I would do it as a treat.😊😊😊.
my first reaction was the price was insane. after thinking about it though, with nearly 20 quid for service and wine, means food was 56. if the meal was truly outstanding and approaching michelin star level, that doesn't seem overly excessive. i would insist on hot potatoes though. that's not ok. if you charge a high price, then standards must reflect that, especially something as basic as temperature of the food. only fair.
That looked nice DJ. £75 quid is my food budget for 10 days, but good to see though as this is why I watch, to see what people do on a weekend . I might not be able to afford it, but I know plenty of folk who can and do eat out sometimes and enjoy it . I always enjoy watching your videos . Best wishes
I get you totally. You have indeed been totally ripped off. So glad you enjoyed it, but there is better out there! If you want to do top eating. Just go to The Waterside Inn. 3 Michelin. Put on your best. Rooms upstairs. Honestly you will not be disappointed, but depends what you are looking for. But what you have just had you were taken!😂
I've eaten in fancy places before but for £45 that's a small serving. I think they're padding it out with the veg and mash
£75
@@nigel8499the beef was £45
Ironic as the veg and mash are the cheapest ingredients
I played the very beginning 3 times. When you said , “breakfasties” it made me laugh. Only a Londoner would say that.
Your food looked good although I would have said something about the mash - it should have been hot. I’ve never tried beef wellington because I know it’ll be too rare for me. Glad you enjoyed.
My family has eaten mashed swede and carrots for generations. Just add butter and pepper whilst mashing. Gurt lush!
I’m in the wrong business, I need to start making food and charging almost £100 for a meal. What a rip-off!
74 quid? No No No No No! Next week Lidl and Aldi are going to regroup and knock this out as a special for £5.99 including the carrier bag. Mental as Anything
It is wonderful to have a 5 star experience in fine dining, I get it and I am glad you enjoyed it. However, personally speaking..it is about the food, the company, the music and the wine. It is a beautiful combination 👌🍷🎶
Indeed
Pork belly very verrryyyyyy nayyyceeee
Sorry I would have returned the dish. If I'm paying that sort of money then all my food needs to be hot.
I was gutted you put gravy on your wellington. But i suppose that's personal choice.. as someone said before me .. i wouldn't be happy with warm mash at those prices 😊
Thank you for sharing, truly beautiful setting. Mainly catered for Business Expenses one can write off against taxes
Far better in a decent pub.
You can't beat your Mums Roast .
I love beef Wellington but it has to be encased in the puff pastry. We have a French restaurant near me and it is amazing. Their beef Wellington, with vegetables and mashed potatoes is only $52.00.
Only
Correct
75 quid and mash that wasn't hot ! There should be nothing to complain about really when your spending that sort of money
Have to add that to the list, as I love a Wellington, having been in a fair few Ramsay restaurants in Vegas. Swede & Carrot mash is one of the old dear's staple sunday roast veg, and you can't beat it when done well!
I'm like yourself, even though I know it's overpriced, I don't mind paying when the food & experience is top drawer. I always tip, even in the UK. However, the 'auto-adding' of the service charge for individuals irks me a little bit.
I'd have probaly left 20% on that, if the service was as good as the food. When that came out I'd have just paid the exact bill, so they'd have done themselves out of a fiver 🤣
The beef was well done/overcooked around the edges, and the pastry was soggy on the bottom. No, not a great Wellington, by any stretch.
But it's Michelin Starred! 🤣
Oh so that makes it ok ! Come on
@@valeriewright8686 He was being ironic, Valerie.
I love the look and sound of a Beef Wellington but haven't had one yet in my 47 yrs on this planet, might have to change that situation this year looking at this place!!!!!
This experience was for sure special Beef Wellington is one of my favourite dishes but for this money would need to be a special occasion for 2 people with wine and sweet would be £200 plus 🙈🙈
Appreciate you showing quality restaurants in and around London ❤
Don't think I would pay that much for that but each to their own you only live once.
I love reading the comments…… there’s a theme in this set.🤣🤣🫢
Love all your videos Darren but before Christmas loosing hours at work then watching last night nearly £100 for a meal full respect for your vids enjoy every 1😅
75 and food wasnt warm, and you didnt complain and sent it back to those who made ir, this just shows you how much they care about the food serverd and its high paying customers
Looks amazing but very pricey for me personally 😋🥩🍷Thanks DJ 😊👍
Needed to be perfect at that price and a much more generous portion.
that's the thinnest gravy i've ever seen, basically brown water.
roast used to do an amazing scottish breakfast
You said the food was quality, maybe it was, but you were paying for the surroundings and the service too. Would I pay £74, No I wouldn't, but glad you enjoyed it and were prepared/able to pay the price
That did look very nice ,but out of my league .thank DJ.🙏🏼💙👏
Imagine how much they are making on a whole wellington. Liked very nice but cannot
Comprehend the price point
Me too on the spices DJ. Was just there last week when I was in London. Such great variety.
Hi class or not I'd be sending back to kitchen tepid mash unacceptable, i make carrot and swede mash with butter its a normal northern dish, for £74.00 i agree with you don't get the price , mash with truffle nowhere near worth that , sadly i believe they charge the prices they do because they know some people willing to pay it. I'd love to see you review Kerridges fish and chips at Harrods😂😂 but i realise that's a little too controversial atm and don't want you getting in deep water from him lol.
food looked great, bit pricey though....i would have removed the service charge, i don't do any of that anywhere....🙂
Everything was quality Darran except the price 74.00 bit pricy that
That beef looks amazing. I'm watching this at breakfast time and I want beef for breakfast 😂
You call a turnip a swede and wee call a turnip a neep. Oft had with haggis and tatties.😁
That looked really good. You have to give a wide sweep of eateries to get a balanced view of what's available. Another excellent vlog.
Mmmm, love the look of that Darren!
I’d have that solely as a treat now and again for me & the good lady!
Last time I had Beef Wellington like that was at Gordon Ramsay Hells Kitchen in Las Vegas for my wife’s birthday!(3month waiting list)
Mmmm, hungry now!😢🤪
Nice one Darren, more like this please!👍👏👏👏❤️😊
The food looked amazing but the gravy was way to watery for my liking. Its only my opinion. And yeah it's a treat, I go to the Den Artiste in Oostende for a mixed grill for a treat and that's about forty quid or more but like you say it is only a treat. Good video that, I really enjoyed it.
Looks amazing. Been going to the Borough for years. Maybe try Hawksmoor just round the corner. The steaks there are very good. Like you happy to go for a fry up etc but sometimes its nice to treat yourself when possible.
Can't stand tepid food. But my word it looks delicious 😋😋
I would of just ask for table water
Get the ingredients from market and recreate it at home include the visit to butchers
where are you going to recreate the cooking skills, few can cook this well.
@@TB-us7el well he previously work as a chef!
Where’s the Cauliflower Cheese man!!
I eat here 4-5 times a week
Really good video Darren!
Hi Darren the restaurant is beautiful the food looks lovely but expensive and small portions warm mash I would have been disappointed still loved your vlog majella Ireland
When i have a roast i like a proper roast with loads of vegetables thats a right rip off try toby carvery next time
I LOVE Roast!! For me, I’ll pay it every time because of the quality, like you said, but also the experience. Just like The Langan. After your ‘criticism’, I responded out loud to my wife “well…you ARE drinking white wine with beef, so…”. We laughed and I hope you thought it was funny too cause I just had to share. We love your videos so much. Thanks for making them!
i wouldn't pay that much no food is worth that much
I would like some more idea about what made the mash so good DJ? Just saying it was isn't really telling us anything on the screen it looked like mash
Creamy, puree, truffle mash - as mentioned 👍🏼
The MARK UP ON THAT MUST BE CRIMINAL
Hi mate been once live right near prefer blacklock city near India 3
I love it there too
£75 for that is a massive rip off.
You can get a 5 course tasting menu at a real 1 star michelin restaurant for £90-£110
Get what you pay for and that’s why I eat here 4-5 times a week
can you pay for me? I haven't even been once 😥🎻
Ridiculous price should of complained about the mash for that money it has to be perfect end of
Or as close to perfect as can be, and for this money is a waste of money to me.
What was amazing about the carrot and suede. Was it seasoned and what with, did it have a sweet taste or a hint of butter. Was there more carrot or was it a fifty fifty combo. I've watched a few of your audits now and your more descriptive with a greasy spoon sausage. I applaud you throwing hard earned money at a Sunday lunch, but it would be advantageous to know why it tastes beautiful, amazing, so good , the best, off the charts. I have not had the pleasure of sampling truffle mash, what do you compare it too. Thanks for the vid !
There is a line - especially where chefs give an opinion. If the ingredients are in there, then what is there to say that you already know...... the truffle mash was creamy, puree mash (as mentioned) with hints of truffle??? Would you visit if I went into detail? probably not. 👍🏼🙏🏼
Unfortunately not all of us are chefs or have been. Your quite right saying that if you went into more detail, i wouldn't visit, but that would be down to logistics and area location, but that shouldn't stop you from voicing an opinion on what comes to your pallet. I may not frequent your audit but if I was to come across a truffle mash elsewhere I would be more informed and in a better position to try !
@@jeep6662 *palate
I'm guessing that's £75 London prices, maybe cheaper further north ya go but not as classy 😊 and for £9 service charge I would want it cutting and feeding to me 😂
Hi Darren
Definitely overpriced
Not enough veggies
I like to see more green veg
Plus I like everything hot
love the ethos of the channel thanks Darren its great that you show quality places that we can go to for a treat.Along with other quality street food and cafs which we can grab and go with the confidence that its good quality. Love the phrase food that makes you smile keep up the good work .
Very nice
From a steak sarnie from a food stall To 6 🌟 restaurant. What a piece of architecture superb A classic dish the Wellington.Yet some tiny differences can be found. How thick should the Duxcell be, crepes, ham😮 Yours seemed a tasty dish but with a thin green rim on the crust😮Spinach? Food should be fun,and we should also never look at the right side of the menu😮 ( that's in a perfect world) Was it expensive? Yes,but for a special occasion ❤spot on.Cheers Allan&Family
I like to have a variety on the channel
@@DJsFoodTravels And we watch for that very reason, that and your personality which makes for excellent content. Keep 'em coming
Im going to say that is expensive but looked delicious!!
High price but great location and great food i guess. On balance - its top end but i would take it.
Worth every shilling. Garth
Looks excellent, thanks for the great review, but...fork in the right hand, in a place like this. You must be pretty brave.
Please explain
@@DJsFoodTravels isn't fork in left hand considered good table manners in UK?
@@DJsFoodTravels Anyway, I just want to say how irritating it must be to get so many comments like "£75....ow much! I'd never pay that...blah, blah". Sadly there are a lot of people who only see the price and wouldn't know fine dining if it fell in their lap. I'd bet none of those leaving these comments could cook half as well. Is it expensive...well, it's not cheap, but then it isn't pretending to be either.
Ever thought of trying Straker's? Also not cheap, but supposed to be very good.
@@TB-us7el no
@@TB-us7el Well said
OMG,that gravy was like water...😩😩😩
Never had beef Wellington, one day
far u were rared from truffle mash lolol..enjoy..great vid..
One tiny criticism is its ok at best the restaurant behind you Wright Brothers is better btw been to both several times
the overpriced roast was nice, one of the nicest wellingtons i have seen, i wouldnt pay it , but good luck to you, and i must say your vlogs are back to what they used to be, so thats good, keep going
great for a treat but the carrot and swede you loved and that was just a side get what you pay for sometimes
Looked delicious and sometimes you just have to have a treat x
Ive seen thicker water than that gravy
Anyone else sick of menus without a pound sign...? Or other menus where it'll have something stupid like 10.5 as the price.....
Unfortunately not for me, especially at that price. I can make a mean carrot and swede for less. If I was paying that then I would have asked for the mash to be heated up.
I know this channel caters for all but this one wasn't for me. Glad you enjoyed it DJ. Would that actually be classed as a Sunday roast?
That beef wellington looked divine - if you can justify the price then why not. I’m afraid out of our budget range tho - we’d need to be filled up for the whole day and it wouldn’t do it. Enjoyed seeing it tho - we can dream while scoffing a ginger pig sausage roll 🤣👍
for that price, the serving fee could have been baked into the price. or has it to do with taxes.
Probably very nice but you could have gone down the road and fed youself for a week if you'd popped into Greggs
