My advice is to slow down. Breathe. Take it all in. Y’all are a great pair cuz each of you challenge each other. But this is not a race it’s a lifestyle. There’s no trophy at the end. Build each other in adventure and life experiences. Don’t be afraid to peek around the next corner. There is always a place to park a rig and things to do, but the most important thing is to love each other through every adventure. Switch it up means if there is an unknown that don’t happen as planned then so be it. Turn right. (Or left) the adventure is in the getting there. Be safe and keep it up. Y’all are doing fine.

Thanks for the advice Andrea - for us right now it feels like a race because it can't be our lifestyle yet. We hope that we can at least do one full year but we are not sure so we are trying to see as much as possible before we have to go back to KC and jobs - thanks for being a part of our journey

Slow down, you may never pass this way again. Sounds like your still in vacation mode. Enjoy life a day at a time and follow the good weather. Most places let you stay 2 weeks, so stay, plan some down time, plan ahead but be flexible. If you make it into work then you might as well go back to sticks and bricks , 9/5 , rat race. You have an opportunity of a lifetime, so make the most of it. Thats my 2 cents and I am looking forward to my RV life later this year after 40 years at the same job. Living life on our own terms, not for the corporation.

Forty one years and we are still working through communication issues. Covid hasn't helped because we've been together 24/7 for over a year. I married him for richer or poorer, through sickness and health but no one said anything about pandemic and house arrest. We have a motor home that I'd love to go out in for extended periods of time but I'm rethinking that. The only good thing is that we wouldn't be in this house....which we built and I love...but seriously!! The interesting thing is that I can see both sides. I love plans...but I also like to just go and do!! But I do love and really appreciate the honesty!!!

Wow Todd & Sheila, this video is totally off the scale. We absolutely love how you come across as such a loving genuine couple who have a beautiful relationship. Actually you are just like us in a lot of ways.

I’m coming to this video a little late but none the less it was great. Mrs. H and I are working through some of these same issues and we have been together for almost 40 years! 40 Years and we are just figuring out ours brains don’t work the same! It’s just that I am the spreadsheet guy with anxiety issues! What a combo! Keep up the good work guys!

I am so like Shelia, I was an accountant clerk for years!. I love planing for the same reasons (need those holidays planned ahead - they fill up fast) but I've been learning to be flexible to meet hubby's needs (planning one month or two weeks stays to let him rest & relax) We have had to cancel some scheduled plans when we needed our rv fridge repaired two yrs ago. Now I'm getting to get back to those I missed places this year!
This life is great & we would not trade it for anything 😍

I stumbled upon your videos last week. Thank you for being real about everything. My husband and I are working on downsizing and finding an RV with the goal of full-time living. I’m the one with anxiety issues. So much of what you shared is what I too experience daily. I do experience brain overload trying to process choices, options, questions, etc it gets to be too much and I shut down. I admit that has had me concerned along with traffic, road and travel anxieties... knowing I’m not alone in this and it’s possible to live this life in spite of my anxiety helps.

My husband said he could definitely identify with Todd's feeling of pulling the rig through cities and in heavy traffic. We're married 48 years and have lived together 24/7 the last 15 years. It takes patience, humor and prayer. We're still learning, RVing gives us a new arena to learn to work together in the set up and break down of the 5th wheel. Enjoy the journey!

Now that's what I call " keeping it REAL"!! I deal with anxiety as well and it's just ME, myself and I! I can't imagine dealing with the rv lifestyle with someone else who is not mature enough to communicate the differences in opinions and opposite personalities. We ALL have to do the work. No way around this. So happy to see that you two love one another and are willing to work it out while sweetly reminding everyone else to proceed with the full blown rv lifestyle with EXTREME caution!! LOL😄 I also like to plan. But, going with the flow has a lot of perks too! Love this video. More videos like this one will help more people than you know! 😉 Thanks for not sugar coating your experiences. Safe travels. God bless!! Prayer works!🙏

We don't experience quite the "magnification" as y'all because we do have that old world to go back to for half the year, but its still real. Very much like your vids because you strike a good balance between showcasing the awesomeness and just plain fun of RV'ng around this amazing land while also
showing that it isn't all rainbows and unicorns. Life still happens and sometimes it's not fun. Stay strong and looking forward to your next episode (btw, pretty ambitious release schedule so you might think of rolling that back to once or twice a week so you don't burn out). I just love you guys. You make me laugh watching every video. We have a 43’ Saber 5th wheel. We’ve been on a few trips and I would like to go full time RVing but we’re still working on the plan. Maybe someday I hope. I love your story and my fear is life will pass us by and we will never get to experience all that America has to offer. My wife of 40 wonderful years likes a big sticks and bricks house that we work ourselves to death taking care of and I really don’t care about a big house but I do care about Mary. It just feels like we will never get to full time RV. But at least I can live the RV life through you and other full timers. Being off work for a year from an injury, and home all the time, is tough. I can’t imagine what it’s like in an RV and little space. We are still in a house and I walk away, outside when things get heated. It has been a great learning curve because we’ve learned how to fix the issue then and there. The only good thing about the pandemic was my work forced us remote. In planning for retirement over the past few years, both the wife and my concerns, were centered around how my being home every day 24x7 would infringe in her time/space. It wasn’t as difficult as we thought and transitioned fairly easy to being around each other all day. The pandemic forced us to work through our “communication style” issues and we’re better for it. 61 this Jan 11th past, retiring end of March, bought a f350 dually, just ordered a Northpoint 377 which will be here early June. We’re off to see the great USA and go to all those places on our list. Great channel and content guys, we enjoy following y’all!

Todd you explaining your anxieties is helpful, because my husband does the same thing. I will suggest a thing (even he at times ) to do or a place to go and he will stay thinking about it. He begins to wonder if he will be cold, what shoes to wear, how long will it take, ect...then he will say let's go tomorrow or stay home and do something here. Either I walk him through it or I get frustrated and give in. No beno
It's good to talk about these subjects for yourselves and for us who can relate with either one of you. I can also relate to the tidiness to a fault and we even named as a sickness🤕 lol "cleanatidis "...which I have been delivered from. I drove my family nuts. But I realized it in me and took the time to figure out what was behind it besides being clean and tidy.
What a bondage...all my sisters had the same issue. I can make fun at myself now. Balance is key. Thanks for sharing these issues that are so common and relatable to many of us. Communication is Key. Great video

Both of you have anxiety. One controls to keep it from happening and the other freaks out when it does from what I see. I do both. Over controlling a situation is a way to keep a situation from creating anxiety and processing too much information especially when your mind just needs a mental break causes anxiety. I don’t experience both forms at the same time, but I can relate with both of you. I’m in my ‘Todd’ season.

Thank you for the insightful and honest conversation. My wife and I own a 37' toy-hauler (with two HD bikes) and we have towed it from Colorado to both the east and west coasts. We love traveling with our rv and have experienced many of your discussed issues. Fuel stops are always a concern, especially in small busy fuel stations. I solved this by purchasing a 70 gal fuel cell with above tool box to go in the bed behind the cab. I am blessed to have some cutting and welding skills and was able to cut 2' out of the tool box so it would clear the 5th wheel. Having the extra fuel capacity allows for me to pick my fuel stop when the trailer is parked. Also I have anxiety with running out of fuel in the middle of nowhere. We have had several close calls with other rv's (Class C motor-home with very unpredictable fuel mileage). My wife is very spontaneous and some of the places she wants to go are very challenging to say the it kindly. During one of our trip to California she decided to change up our plans. We were leaving Modesto heading north towards Grants Pass Oregon and she decided to reroute us to cross the Golden Gate Bridge. You can imagine the anxiety level towing a 37' 13"-3 high toy-hauler through downtown San Fransisco. Overhead clearances are always a concern as well. Needless to say we managed with out damage and I get to tell the story over and over. If there is one mantra we go by during travel is "lower our exceptions and raise our acceptance" God is great and he has always provide safe passage for both of us. Someday we hope to enjoy full time travel. If you ever come through Montrose Colorado please look us and we have some great places to explore . I am currently a Montrose County Commissioner and you can find my info at www.montrosecounty.net/ .

We've been FT since Dec. 30th. Thankfully we have always been great communicators we figured that part our early in our marriage. We have been together for 39 yrs married for 37 of those this July. I'm glad you push though to do the activity to see what is on the other side. My Lord is always in control so with my anxiety I know that what happens is in his control and that is all part of our journey and our YT name. We told ourselves we had to be "fluid" roll with the tides of fulltiming. I threw us into the unknown when I up and sold our RV. We are still in Bradenton in a tiny crappy 70's trailer they had for the month of March....then our homeless selves with $ in the bank are back to Texas our future is unknown as we wait for our coach to finish being built. Been watching and enjoying your vids for a few weeks now. The Carlsbad caverns are really cool. Been there 4 or 5 times as a little kid and once again in 2012. Still looks the same! You mentioned backing up. We went through a flood a few years ago and bought a camper to live in for a year. This year, we will finally be able to enjoy our camper to camp in. I, deep down, am having some anxiety about backing a 40 foot travel trailer into a small spot. I've backed trailers up before, but where my issue is...is doing while everyone is watching me. That freaks me out!

It is not fun when everyone comes out to watch - totally agree and then when 5 of them try to help at once and all have different ideas ugh. Not helpful at all. I do know it's getting easier - and Sheila has been looking for more pull throughs lol

You two are like me. I have anxiety so I research and plan, if I don't have any info my anxiety goes way up. I can only handle so much stress before my brakes come on. The difference is I do the planning and the driving. I would never be ok with someone saying, just drive. I wouldn't do that to anyone else. Maybe driving and planning should be shared. Oh and from what I discovered having a strict schedule the first 4 wks of RVing (I'm 5wks in today) I get stuck in planning mode. Last week I cancelled that schedule and found a river to park next to for a week and I got a fishing license. I let myself relax and have fun. I'm finally having real fun.

New subscriber here. I am enjoying your journey. Many, many fulltimers have looked back over their first year and the one thing they seem to agree on is that they traveled too quickly, too far and did not spend enough time in each location. Also, the longer you stay in a given location, the cheaper it becomes. Travel days do indeed cause a lot of stress. Spread them out. Allow more time to compensate for the 'oops' or the unexpected. And more time to unwind between travel days.
Planning? I am the opposite to Sheila with my "Ready, Fire, Aim" approach. I like to have a 'skeleton' of an itinerary with the next three stops planned and confirmed. But beyond those, well, let life happen. Great video. Thank you for sharing the generally-unspoken, nitty gritty of two people in a 40' box.

    • @SwitchItUpLife
      @SwitchItUpLife  3 роки тому

We do agree we are traveling very rapidly - we are pretty sure that our full time will only be a year so we are wanting to experience as much as we can in this one year. Thanks for subscribing and for the feedback - we have a month coming up of being back home and will do a reassessment at that time and make some adjustments.

Great video. I have a little of both of you in me. However while I plan on paper and in my head anxiety ruins some of that. My husband hates that I mention something and we don’t do it. I tell him all the time I’m talking out loud and then we plan and anxiety comes out. I work thru it mostly. Very few times have I not done what we planned. But it’s a chore to get there!! Safe travels. Thanks for sharing such important information. Growth can only come from good conversation!! ❤️☮️

Hey Kerry - I too am an external processor, I have had to not process many of the ideas with Todd, 1 it overwhelms him and then he hangs on to one thing and is disappointed when that didn't make the cut. You might have to process Phase 2 of your planning with him and not Phase 1 - but you are right - growth comes from the conversations. Thanks for following along - we really appreciate it! ~ Sheila

So if you make plans for Yellowstone plan on at least 10 days to have time see it all, do the hikes, drive every road. We spent 5 days and saw the Teton and drove to Cody in those 5 days. That was not enough time. The week after labor day was great with warm days and cool to cold nights, it snowed 9 days later.

to watch your journey. We purchased a Sandpiper 375 in December, which is really about 42 feet, I believe. My husband is great at hauling, and yet we've already had some "hiccups." Just this weekend apparently a cabinet was slightly opened by a bowl and when we opened the slide we ripped off an entire cabinet door and trashed the cabinet itself. Yikes! Still, we had a great weekend of camping in spite of this error.

Excellent video guys. So nice to see the authenticity! Other channels have noted similar sentiments; that full-timing in a hallway amplifies all underlying issues. Seems that dividing and conquering tasks, and then staying in your lanes is the answer. There is only one flawless individual in the universe. The rest of us are all works in progress! :)
