As a trucker I can tell you these new truck are so easy to drive. They practically drive themselves. As long as your careful and not let other drivers bother you your going to a ok. I have been trucking for 20 years and I have driven all kinds of semis this one will feel like your riding on a cloud

Probably my favorite video so far!! Great chemistry between you four. I had a Ford F-650 with 22.5 tires and able to look at truckers eye to eye. It’s awesome driving that high up.

Wow. What an incredible find this video is to me. I have been looking at used OTR/HDT trucks for 2 years and just bought another RAM 3500 cab chassis as I did not connect with the right truck yet. Look at the Schwalbe conversions on Peterbilt and Kenworth chassis BTW if you're still looking.

You guys are great. I have been following Jim and Kelly for a few years. You guys together are so much fun. I agree, I have driven Class A trucks for some time, and I never knew how much anxiety my wife had pulling our 45 foot until I started pulling with a HDT. I made a trip with my F350 dually, I was on edge to whole time. Love my HDT.

Omg I laughed and laughed. Awesome video. Oh don't be afraid of the big truck. :) I was a solo truck driver at 22 hauling loads from Canada to Florida. It's interesting to look into the details, my thought was cost of ownership. Oh boy that spreadsheet is coming lol thanks for sharing another option for people to consider.

We have been following all of you for a long time . Our dream is a a late model Volvo 780 and a JX450 DRV. We need the room for our 2 Ridgebacks. You guys did a great job with the video. One of the best so far. Looking forward to joining the full time racks in a few years. Keep up the great videos for us working stiffs. I have been a truck mechanic for 40 + years plus a CDL holder with driving experience. This is the best of both worlds One thing you didn't touch on is the safety factor with an HDT. Braking and handling is much better. I see people talking about costs. In the long run with an HDT the cost are similar. The new pickups are not cheap to repair and pulling a 20,000 lb 5th wheel wears them out quicker than a HDT would. We pull 140,000 lbs in AK and can go 6 to 700,000 miles with out major problems on a semi truck. Brakes tires and everything will last longer plus you're not working the truck as hard.
That is a big truck, my chevy 2500 is big enough for us. However, I do like the distance they can go between fuel stops. Great info guys. Thx

Great Video. This was the first time catching your channel and I enjoyed the fun you have while you are creating your content. I was one of the people Jim talked to when he was looking to buy his HDT. I built my HDT as well as helped build others to build their HDTs to different levels of completion. Although an HDT isn't for everyone, you cannot know the difference in comfort and most of all safety of being in control of your trailer.
With that said. My wife and I have our own RV park that we allow folks to stay at (at no charge). So we extend an invitation to you and your wife to feel free to contact us. Part of the invite could/would include showing you a lot more of the HDT intricacies and take you both out for a ride and drive our HDT so you have first hand experience inside one of these fantastic Rigs.
We are in the center part of the country near a very popular entertainment area. West to East North to South and back you will find us pretty close to your route if not right on it.
Again we really enjoyed your video and would love to host a stay for you both sometime soon.

Todd that CB that Jim has is top of the line.we are having trouble deciding what we want truck or HDT check check marketplace for hdt's and you'll see that they're cheaper than pickup so good luck and safe travels from Rick and Pam and the zoo Crew from southern Ohio at Big Bear Creek family campground
We purchased our 2013 Volvo 780. $24000 with 500k on the motor. For the 5th wheel hitch $5000. Will handle a 35,000 pound trailer. Going top of the line fifth wheel. Have a 2015 Smart car. $9,200. Decking for the car $3500.
So total for the truck $32,000.
There is no way I can purchase a truck in the size bracket to pull our toy hauler for that price. Empty weight on our toy hauler is 20,000lbs. Plus all of our extras.

cb radios really change your travel experience get on channel 19 for updates on road conditions the truck drivers relay to each other on road hazards so not to get stuck in traffic channel 9 is your emergency channel be aware if you have small kids in your rig 19 can b a rated r channel lololol i tell everyone that travels its a must have for safety buy one you will enjoy it and also watch what you say on them you dont know who is listening i never give out my exact location or real name great vid keep it up

Sandra Westley uk, I follow Suit Travel I love there rig but wow what a big one that is, not something that’s easy to park. You’d be busting a gut driving that thing Todd. I agree about big draws, people that plan kitchens anywhere, house or trailer I only have big draws in my home kitchen, don’t do cupboards, draws pull out and are easy to get into.
you may need some extra length on the hdt bed to carry a jeep as it can't be loaded sideways. go for a 2 door jeep as they are cooler anyways :) (also saves money vs 4dr which is another savings courtesy of jim lololol)
I have looked up some HDTs that are carrying Jeeps...that is some crazy stuff!

I would have to agree with everything Jim has said. We got our HDT already set up for 5th wheel towing and the Smart car and was under $33,000 and the truck was already titled as a motorhome and our home state kept it tagged as a RV. Love the HDT and try to attend one of their rallies it will help your decision.

It really is --They have a great rig
If you could pull your trailer with that rig one time, you would never drive a dually again. I saw a video with an HDT owner that said his trailer brakes had failed on a trip and he didn't notice immediately because the truck was doing such a good job stopping the rig. The stopping ability is the best reason to go with the HDT.

Traveling in our Freightliner we try to go 6 hours between stops. The air seats are amazing. I start with all the air out and add air as the miles click by. Nice to get best interstate fuel economy running at 1475 rpm which is around 74

Doing all the things
A bit of bad news Shelia, only the smart car wheelbase will fit on the trucks flatbed in that orientation. Any of the Jeeps will be too long. Now if you watch SuiteTravels videos on the HDT Rally’s .. I think last fall one, Jim highlighted a few other “bed” options where other vehicles fit.
We follow Jim and Kelly too and their rig is so awesome. Was just saying to the wife .. "Switch it Up" is gonna to start meeting with the other channels soon. Just a matter of time. Can't wait for the "Chad" episode though.

This was an awesomely informative video!! I can truly see the four of you having an great time hanging out together. Much in common. I’m curious (as we are considering a newer truck), did you guys get any measurements to be sure a Jeep would fit up there? This would be a total game changer for us as we’d love to be able to have a jeep with us and not be driving separately.

From a OTR driver his deck modification over the drive axles is pretty cool. I paid $70k for my ‘19 F350 in May of this year and could buy a semi like my Peterbilt for substantially less. Something to think about.

Our 5R is 40' ~20k, its an old one, we bought it first...There are so many beautiful trucks out there, pick ups, flat beds, we started looking at 1 tons with flatbeds, the price just blew us away. A new truck was just out of question, and older ones, diesels, were looking 20k +...maybe. Watched Suite Travels, Tipsy Marlin, Jonesn2travel, and a lot of others, both pick ups and hdts. We bought a 2006 Mack. Best choice for us, we got 15-19% grades out here. Wasn't worried about towing the trailer....was worried about stopping it. Then again, I am from a long line of trucker/military family...yes..SIZE does count. Western Star is Cadillac of trucks, so our grandson says...so pretty.
Also the Western Star is the Cadillac of trucks, so our grandson, the trucker says. It's a beautiful truck.

Todd my Keystone Bullet 331BHS has a dishwasher. It's 5'3", Portuguese and we've been married for 5 years! Might not make it to 6 if she reads this LoL. God bless her, hope Shiela gets her dishwasher one day!
