- I test ride and review the 2023 KTM 1290 Super Duke GT sport touring motorcycle. I ride the bike around town and give my first impressions on how it rides.
This bike is similar to the KTM Super Duke R. The GT version is more of a sport touring model, featuring a more ergonomic seating position and more touring amenities. The horsepower numbers are very similar between the two bikes. I compare this to the Kawasaki Versys 1000 SE LT and the Harley Davidson Pan America 1250 touring motorcycles.
This is not a beginner motorcycle by any means. The motorcycle should be ridden by a more experienced rider.

One of the reasons I didn't get the Super Duke R back in the day was the engine lugged so badly under 4k RPM. I ended up getting the Multistrada 1200 with the DVT engine and it's totally smooth over 2k RPM. Much nicer to ride around town, which is something you do on a touring bike.
I have 42K miles on my 2017 version. Differences are I have quick shift up only and not the TFT screen and keyless ignition. This bike is defined by the motor and style. The WP active suspension is ok. I have had zero issues with the bike and zero regrets. I am 5'10" and can flat foot almost. With the integrated luggage it's a super fun sport touring bike. There are aftermarket options for the windscreen. I run a short aftermarket MRA screen for my weekend rides but also have a Puig taller screen for multi night tours.
I have a 2019 which is the same bike just different color, and different controls. the screen is 7" now vs 2019 6.5" but same motor. Love the bike.
I like that bike, from cock pit view I can't already tell.....have a duke 890r but would like to do longer rides, bit more power and wind protection.....
have you ridden the super adventure? if so would you want to do more miles on the Duke or Adventure? i know the adv has radar cruise but they both have regular cruise too
I own an SDGT and have ridden the Super Adventure S and R. The SA’s are more comfortable for sure. The Super Duke GT is comfortable, but it’s still more of an aggressive riding position. It’s also just as capable of aggressive riding as the SDR, just more comfortable with a windscreen, and a larger fuel tank. If “comfort” is your primary goal the SAS is amazing, and still a ton of power.
