I stayed at Mount Melleray in July 2015 for a couple of nights during my first, and so far only, trip to Ireland. It is a wonderful place and I surely hope and pray it can stay open.
I remember Father Denis well who is such a kind and holy man.
    God bless the Abbey🙏

God be with the brothers and sisters of the Cistersian Order. I love Mount Melleray, it's a step back to the Christianity of the early church. I met Fr. Columba over 20 years ago for a healing blessing at Mount Melleray and was captivated by it's beauty, serenity and peace, a truly holy place with both the brothers at Mount Melleray and the sisters at Glencairn, it would be absolutely tragic to lose the abbey. I agree with Fr Columba, how can it be expected to keep the order going in Ireland if they won't take in any postulants? It doesn't make sense at all to do this. Where can people go when they receive the call from God to serve him in a life of prayer and service in a community of like minded souls, a community in Christ, if we turn our back on those called are we not in fact turning our back on Christ himself? I will keep you all in my prayers and hope that God will find a way to keep this most beautiful community alive and thriving in Ireland, yes people are spiritually craving God at the moment and need the order now more than ever

I sat listening to even song at Mount Mellory nearly 50 years ago. I was a young lad then but the peace and tranquility and above all deep sense of perspective has remained within me as if it was yesterday. I must return.
If the day comes where such places are no more then we as humans should fear for our survival. Its not necessarily about religion. Its about just being a decent human. I fear the people who truly understand where I'm coming from are in the minority

Thanks for your comment. Yes you must return, it's a wonderful place. I felt rejuvenated after spending a night there, I was filled with peace and tranquility. Since this video was filmed, they have made many changes and had huge support from the locality. They have more and more bus tours coming every weekend and their cafe is thriving. When people realised they were in trouble, the community stepped up in their droves...have faith in humanity, there are good people here still. :)

@@amyryan3047 That 's fantastic news I was worried about them since they made an appeal for help... I'm delighted the community rallied... God Bless these Holy men.

Mount Melleray is such a beautiful special place. The place of my mothers, and her mother and her mothers birth and place of burial. My grandfather James Power was the blacksmith there a long time ago and made all the keys for the doors there, and we still have one. My parents and grandparets are buried there, and my dear cousin Michael Rawlins has been working there for many many years. I really hope that Mount Melleray will survive by whatever means they can. I cant believe they are not allowed to take in postulates, that surely is a very bad decision, and I would query the reasoning behind that. A place of retreat should be increased as no matter what your faith, great peace of mind is to be found there, and you'd never know what else people would be called to do having experienced heaven in Mount Melleray. My thoughts and prayers are with you all in Mount Melleray and I wish you all the very best of health and happiness in the future. :)

I am also interested in why they made the decision not to allow them to take in new postulants. Unless they intend to close the abbey, it makes no sense. But, I hope they survive somehow. Perhaps the only completely sane people left in the world live in monasteries, and we need more, not less.

Heartbreaking to hear, the land of my maternal Grandparents, a land I have only read about, has lost faith in its Divine religion. Almost 2000 years of Christianity disappearing as I write.

Sadly the chant music is not from there.
They have the reformed simplified office in the vernacular as every abbey has accepted in order to attract vocations among other reasons. But where are these hoped for vocations ?
Would it be asking too much to return to the beautiful Cistercian traditions, the Cistercian rite of mass and Gregorian Chant ?

Jesus Christ loves you and he has a plan for your life. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whosoever believes in him shall have eternal life. Repent and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior if you have not done so already.

What on earth is she doing? She can't even pronounce Cistercian-Sister-shun. Sisterian!? Lol! And what's with the waving hand? Does she think she is royalty! I'd say she'd be better off pulling pints in Waterford. Sh'es no journalist!
