      I agree! Our local professionals are pretty sloppy in the gel department. haha

    This is such an amazing tip, thank you so much. Here in Malaysia we usually just use folders, not many owner-operator gaffers out here. So on a longer job all out rolls end up in one heaping basket. Would be extremely beneficial to make a wooden gel holder.

    Another fantastic insight, love the channel. Wonder what a gel collection of that size costs - also, there is a typo in the title!

    Had no idea colour gels could bleach - presumably if i've got a bunch of rolls in their original form they can be stored safely without worry of bleaching for a couple of years while we take off a piece at a time?

    Hey! Anyway you could share some of your pre-cut cinefoil lengths?

    • @gaffergear
      @gaffergear  2 роки тому

      It varies from year to year depending on the lights I own. For a while a had HMI pars that just leaked light between the doors, also I was using these a lot to cap the end if a kinoflo so I had a lot of 1x2 ft.
      But these days I just have smaller pieces for covering down lights.

    What are your three common sizes of cut gel I see in your boxes?

    • @gaffergear
      @gaffergear  5 років тому +2

      Hi JC
      Interesting question. My large gel cuts are 2ft by 3ft. My largest lights are tungsten 5ks and 4k HMI's so that's big enough. Plus that means I can cut down the centre of the roll and not waste any gel.
      My smallest gels in that box are cut to fit arri 300's and DeSisti 650s with a 2 inch overlap to clip to the large doors..... But.... I don't use these much anymore, I've actually sold all my 300's. So I'm wondering if it's worth cutting these to this size anymore.
      My mid size are cut to fit arri 1k barn door with a 2 inch overlap on both sides to clip to the large doors. But again, I seldom use these as I have LED Fresnel kits now and purchased the hard plastic gel that come as a kit in a pouch. Because there is no heat they don't melt or bleach.

    What are the sizes that you cut for "L, M, and S"? Do you mind sharing the dimensions you prepare?

    • @gaffergear
      @gaffergear  3 роки тому +3

      I actually don't have those sizes anyone, all my lights that size are at least bi-colour, or cane with plastic correction filters. Bow so that space in my boxes is now full of clamps.
      I give the whole lot away to film students so I have none to measure.
      I had the small ones sized to fit an arri 300 and Desisti 650 doors with three inches extra length along the sides and an extra inch top and bottom so the gels caught any stray light between the gaps of the small doors and big doors.
      The mid size were made for 1k studio barn doors.
      Having the extra length in the sides ment that when they were filled up they didn't get scratched damage to the sections of the gel that light went through
      But I have none of those lights now.

    where do you buy gel rolls with various color series ? in my country they only sell white diffusion and bunch of color correcting gels.

    • @gaffergear
      @gaffergear  5 років тому

      The suppliers here in Melbourne can custom order gels in for me if they don't have them in n stock.
      Less and less gels are being stocked by suppliers these days.
      What country are you in?

      @@gaffergear it is so hard to experiment with other series of gels unless we doing it with skypanel color gel collection, but even skypanel doesn't have all the available gels right ?
      I'm from indonesia btw, thank you sir for doing these kind of videos it really help me progress even further.

      @@OppaiDaisukiful yes the skypanels are missing a heck of a lot.
      I'll have a chat to one of my suppliers and see if their parent company supplies Indonesia.
      Also I'll see if my connections at Rosco can help.
