What a delightful conversation to listen to. This is rare in today’s society yet it should not be. Thank you both for sharing this with us. It gives one hope.
We should have more conversations like this one . Thank you Bishop Baron . Not only clarify concepts for people but educates and push us to reflect . If we do not have a conversation , we do not have a Relationship. God bless you ! 🕊️
Thank you for having intelligent convos with intelligent people!! Signed, someone converting to Catholicism who appreciates the humane, intellectual, and loving side of The Church.
This conversation is a great example of the dialogue we need in US society now, where we can talk reasonably and with nuance and context about issues where much is at stake, like abortion.
It indeed was wonderful, but unfortunately, Bishop Barron's lack of scientific understanding of the issue of abortion made that conversation impossible.
@@therealong legally, we cannot force life. Scientifically, everything from the tree in someone's back yard up is alive. But can we force someone to keep a tree alive when they've decided to cut it down for whatever reason?
Grateful Mr. Khanna said yes to this important dialogue. As Bishop Barron notes, conversation touching on religion is actively opposed in the public square, yet this public servant chose to engage. “And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for those who cultivate peace.” James 3:18
This is not correct. The Christian Nationalists talk about religion all the time! Goodness. They want to remove separation of Church and State. Wake up America. If you're not careful, America will become a fascist country. Trump is mad. I am Catholic and I will be voting for Biden, for the sake of my faith in religion, in a higher cause. Rights for everyone, not just WHITES.
Bishop Barron Thank you. As a Caribbean person , in my mind life us not normal in the US Person come there get caught up in working to buy the material things They even shun their parents to keep up with everyone else. In the Caribbean we are respectful to elders. We never address them by their nanes. I find it very disappointingi would not live in the US for all the wealth in the world. Absolutely no moral values. You can hear the difference in Mr Khanna's that cones from his upbringing. Even you it can be heard how you were given valuesbut Thsnk You for bringing this conversation
I live in the 17th congressional district (Newark). This was an excellent conversation. Thank you Bishop for making this happen. Although I like and agree with Mr. Khanna on almost all issues, I cannot/will not ever vote for him unless he changes his stance on abortion. All those material goods, job creation, wealth, etc. he talks about are excellent, but they all hinge on one thing: Birth. You need humans to create and enjoy all that. The right to life. It’s in our constitution I believe. If I’m legally murdered in the womb, what good is it to me that you create more housing, wealth, etc if I’m not around to enjoy it all? Mr. Khanna can’t do what he does without first being born (let’s thank God for that), and those around him being born (thank you, Lord). Our biggest assets are humans. All the good things in this world are great, I like and enjoy them a lot, but it’s a secondary consequence of born humans. If we can’t even get the most fundamental of rights correct, well… Get on board Mr. Khanna! Be the next Gandhi, but for our brothers and sisters in the womb. Strive to be great, not just competent. God bless!
The Congressman is a proggresive. He does not care if you are eliminated in the womb, he can bring 10 from another country that will be forever grateful and vote for him. He is talking when is enough. Ask Biden why he needs 3 mansions and so many millions?
What's especially irksome is that Hinduism opposes abortion, so he really has no leg to stand on. He's like the equivalent of a liberal, mainline Protestant Christian, not a serious, orthodox Hindu.
That is too bad. The lack of understanding and sympathy for a mother who is carrying a dead fetus in her womb and thereby needs an abortion for her own survival makes Catholics look ... well not good ...
Hello. The situation you described would not be objected to by Catholic teaching. If the fetus is dead, then it would not go against Catholic teachings. I hope I explained this with some clarity. I thought this was a very good conversation, and it gave me hope that more conversations can start, and our country can find some healing. Thank you. @@carmenhartono3410
Bishop Barron encourages a natural law framework. That’s the key here. Catholics believe in One God the Father almighty creator of heaven and earth all that is seen and unseen. That will never change nor be compromised. Therefore we believe we are created by a loving God for God and our mission here is first to realize that and then live our lives by the example of God’s incarnation in his son Jesus Christ. True Christians would never deny Christ.
This was such great dialogue between them. More of this type of conversation needs to take place in all areas of politics and with John Q. Public. As far as abortion, it is part of the 10 commandments, DO NOT KILL. The decision to sin is between the woman and her GOD , not her government.
I like that he brought up Dan Lipinski. The Congressman was one of the one’s hounding out Lipinski. No wonder Khanna stuttered at the end. I will never forgive people like Khanna for directing millions to take out my Congressman. He’s a disgrace.
Thanks for a great conversation, I was delighted to hear this. (One minor quibble might be to remember the world outside of the United States and to remember where the Church fits in when we see one nation state as unique or if we see states in competition with each other. I'm probably being unfair here given the context.) Overall I really enjoyed this and it made me think a lot. Thanks again
It is a wonderful interview, thank you Bishop Barron and Rep Khanna....a former Californian myself, it is good to listen to politician, I would presume is a moderate Democrat, talking with common sense, intelligence and for sure love for America.
Vote Blue for DEMOCRACY! Trump is a fascist. He is a drug addict and farts in the presence of his colleagues and world leaders, including the Pope. It's all over the internet.
He is certainly moderate when compared with the likes of Barbara Lee in Oakland, AOC in NY, Cori Bush in St Louis, etc. He is articulate when he speaks and gives honest answers without resorting first to ideological nonsense. While I disagree with him on key points, I think he is well-intentioned and someone who can reach across the aisle to compromise. We need more of this.
once again Bishop Barrons represents humanity well from a Catholic perspective. Especially his articulate explanation of the Catholic view on abortion. Well done. It is a big sticking point from a moral point of view, but not stopping dialog on all tough issues.
Abortion is legal in the Vatican City State, an independent country where no one goes to jail for abortion. They voluntarily adopt mostly Italian law, which legalized abortion in the 1970s. Hence, Vatican is 'pro-choice' in criminal law, but against abortion in Canon law.
strengthen the man, strengthen the family; strengthen the family, strengthen church; Strengthen the church, transform the culture. This alone will go a long ways to fixing societal issues…poverty, abortion, education etc. thank you to both of these men!
Judith Moore What a delightful exchange of beliefs and sharing of such. What I find so lovely, is , as with our prime minister, Rishi Sunack as Hindus. Is how lovely, peaceful, and tolerant. The opposite to most Muslims. A huge difference. How sad that we have so much disharmony and violent protesters. All connected to Islamic states. Bishop Barron is a truly good man who lives the true faith.
The disharmony is mainly a result of the loss of identity as a country. I don't live in the UK (my sibling is a student in Sheffield), but watching how your society is falling apart in terms of its culture and cohesion brings tears to the eyes. A lot of societies around the globe have a stake in the British identity. It boggles the mind how a once self-assured British society has fallen into disarray.
Enjoyed the conversation. My job was destroyed by the elimination of manufacturing. Received no raises for years. Need the Kingdom of God. Get some wise decisions.
0 seconds ago Thank you again Bishop. I can’t help but get stuck on the last comments of your guest. He alluded to the fact that every person has capabilities. Untold gifts that can be used for the greater good. However, he said this right after he shared his view on abortion. Do not the unborn get the same value as having untold gifts and capabilities.?
@@RamonaSprecco-lk4th Does a severely disabled child in the womb have a right not to live every day in severe pain and does its mother have the right to make that choice for him/her? Does a woman whose pregnancy will kill her not have the right to live?
@@joandempsey4652these are examples of the difficult issues that democrats have reason for pushing back on, discussing, and bringing to the table for dialogue. Oh Bishop!!! THANK YOU FOR THIS DISCUSSION! PLEASE.....have it across the world....sit down table face to face discussions with western governments! Thank you Our Beloved Pope for your works. But we need practical face to face discussions. I pray this happens soon in the Synod perhaps.
This was a very refreshing conversation and restored my faith in hope for our country. Grateful to both gentlemen for showing respect by example as we continue constantly praying for the USA to unite and heal under God's protection. 🙏
Thank you Bishop Barron for this interview. I personally believe that if I vote for a Democrat, I would have to go to confession right away. On the other hand, I pray that Donald Trump will not be re-elected as president. I feel like voting as an independent party member and just not voting for President Biden or Trump.
I hope Ro Khanna will become the next Dem leader in the House once Pelosi retires. He does come across as someone who is pro-American and of good faith, one of the few who are still reasonable on the Left.
@@anneturner2759 Yes, you could tell that on the issue of abortion he was a little bit squirmish - sticking to his "mother and doctor" line and then excusing himself that he is not a bioethicist. Well, if you cannot coherently define how early life begins, how about you don't legislate laws that have to do with the dismembering of pre-born babies?!
Thank you Bishop Barron for this discussion in regards to social. Society concerns that were discussed from different leadership our USA in past and present moments. And how leadership here in USA has been lacking in the religious aspect as a leadership . Such as Martin Luther King Jr and Jimmy Carter as I deserned his leadership as quite yet strong in his faith and family values . So in my perspective I believe he was a good leader politically minded in a reserved wisdom way . And he listened to people and then answered their questions . Wisely. And with conviction. He stood by his words. Definitely not wishy washy. Also listened to your guest speaker who is American Hindu and born in Philadelphia and education here in USA as well. He shared that USA has lost that pride in the country it use to have as a great power among nations due to factories such as steel mills going to other countries and clothing factories and other goods that were American made and left some Americans with work they took pride in and had something to do. That was life building in families in community in church in production and products. And left these unable to be be self sustainable with good work to continue with some to replace that loss. Capitalism failed them in this aspect. There fore companies shutdown s and left them without. Highway robbery like a thief in the night . My perception on this . Coal miners with new clean energy should have been reeducation to work in solar powered panels and windows windmills energy production . Farmers also and the list goes on . Historical facts tells this story of Truth .creating poverty and lack of education in children motivation as they see families in hardship no food no money no work. Turn to criminal activity. So creates a negative factor in what was a wholesome community. A wise leadership should have been productive and made plans to assist in building up these communities . Get rid of toxic environment water and waste. Beautify destroy old buildings collecting dust and spider webs and sore eyes in the neighborhoods . And building s safe for communities again with playground s safe place area for families to gather and enjoy the outdoors. The USA I remember decades ago ! Right. Yes leadership needs to be more responsible with they construction of who they are or they will not be there very long . Non productive . And needs to learn more if is not happening. Talk and action is very necessary . Good planning and overseer as well accounting also with costs. And out omes. Investment s and success with projects. Yes good leadership is work! But it can be work in progress continue education as well. Thank you for letting me comment . This definitely was a great discussion I enjoyed immensely! And that s usually hard for me to get so passionate about a comment . Safety and protection has always been my background but as I have grown in my experiences in different work environments it makes me think and process my thoughts with more clarity of mind and of course Jesus Christ name in my life in holy Spirit power has been there for me always . So yes leadership needs God / Jesus Christ name For sure . Thank you , Bishop Barron and God bless both of you. Awesome ! 😊♥️🙏🐦🌵☀️
Wake up America. Vote Blue. America will become a fascist country. Trump and his corrupt cronies don't care about abortion or your rights. Christian Nationalism is a front. They want to desecrate the Constitution and remove separation of Church and State. I am Catholic and I'm voting for Biden, for decency, for democracy!
This was very enlightening. The lack of vitriol was welcome and rare. My thought as a former classical liberal (pre-1990), now conservative, is this: What is our shared goal? I have no interest in the "live and let live" philosophy or pluralism for the sake of pluralism end goal. I want to be heading for goodness and truth. I just don't see that being an end goal whose particulars the factions can agree on.
@debifox6555 "Goodness and truth" should be taught your kids already from "home", being common values for every single human being indistinctly. So where would the pluralism or philosophy of "live and let live" come in, unless these common values would be different? I would understand the "shared goal" as the "common good", which term is so much misunderstood.
Grandparents came over from Ireland. Settled in Chicago. Richard Daley folks! Parents taught me as a young kid to vote Democratic because they help the poor, provide for immigrants, produced Catholic J F K, and LBJ's Great Society. As time went on, seeing the party was creating generational poverty, warehousing of people in public housing, no jobs, abortion, and non stop spending----had to find something new in the Republican Party. What's that old saying? You're an idiot if you're not a Democrat when you're young and you're an idiot if you're not a Republican when you're old.
I have always been a moderate conservative, even when I was in college. I am no reactionary, but I am absolutely not a left-wing nut job. Their politics ruin every city they touch. I grew up in San Francisco. I’ve seen what their policies do.
I’d like to add one more thought- I believe that the biggest obstacle to the immigration issue is the politicians themselves. Their actions seem to indicate that the issue of immigration helps their chances of getting elected. Actually solving the problem takes away an emotionally charged issue on which to campaign.
Catholics- In order for us to create space for conversions that keep us, as individuals and as a nation, from completely divorcing morality from politics, we need to discipline ourselves individually and as a church to love the other as an other. It takes a great deal of work to actually do it and not just say that is what we believe. The other needs to get it that they are loved. The other needs to have a real understanding of what forgiveness looks like, especially for those who have taken part in an abortion. Look at it from their point of view- why would they want to believe that they have murdered their children, if there is no concrete, loud and clear message, coming from us, of forgiveness and hope. We need to pivot our message to be about the joy that comes from contrition and knowing the forgiveness of God. Peace be with you, From someone who has experienced a crisis pregnancy and knows and feels the forgiveness of God.
You're right, we should feel for the woman who has to have the abortion to save her own life. Thing is the people in power, there perspective has no limiting principle. Bishop Barron mentioned it, in New York there celebrating 9 month abortions. I think most Pro Life people are willing to have some flexibility, but the loudest people on the pro abortion side want no limits. Wheres the reasonable pro abortion people who are saying the crazies on their side are going too far? Ro Khanna didn't call out the crazies on his side. The pro abortion side, the crazies are in control, and everyone else is along for the ride.
I'll cast the first blame on the shepherds. How would the sheep know what to do, when to do it, and how best to do it, when the pews are empty even on days of obligation such as Sundays? It's the shepherds' responsibility to go out in search of lost sheep, bring them home, look after their needs, and defend them against wild beasts. But out shepherds, save for a handful of them, are busy chatting away with the devil's decoy while the sheep are being led away to the slaughter.
You do understand the Catholic Church position is exactly what you describe, don’t you? There are so many ministries which are dedicated in helping post-abortive women and men. Indeed, the March for Life has LONG advocated for the very ideas you describe.
I thankyou two men for this conversation. I wish our leaders would be able to sit down and discuss what they are doing and how to decide what is best for the people of the country and not just the country.
I think this was an excellent example of how discussion/argument can/should happen. I appreciated Ro Khanna’s positions BUT he was extremely uncomfortable when discussing abortion - which he termed women’s reproductive rights. Of course, when I hear that, I automatically say, “don’t engage in activities that produce human life…easy, that’s your reproductive right” . What I heard was that a woman and her physician can determine the life or death of a human being (with that human being having no say). How do you further discuss such a view? From a personal perspective, I was paralyzed and had “no say” - either people helped me or they didn’t…if they didn’t, I was dead. I’m glad a received help and that it was basically required (as we don’t leave people to die because they need medical attention or some form of intercession for life). I’m not (or no longer) a burden to anyone and have contributed quite a bit (both financially and personally) to the welfare of people in society. Why is it so hard for people to understand that unborn babies are in that same position?
Great job bishop! I would like to see that guy pressed more on why scientifically he is wrong about what is a baby. I feel like us Catholics hold the scientific ground strongly here and need to utilize that advantage more.
I liked Ro Khanna for his stance on the first amendment while the Dem party championed censorship. After this I admire him even more - though leaving out the problem of NGOs in profiting off misery and encouraging it seemed either naive or a bit disingenuous. I was hoping he’d run for Senate but maybe he will the governor’s office
Great convo. Reaching out on the areas of agreement is what will eventually allow for the time and space needed for the kind of real discussion that more contentious issues require. For example- if we were able to really push for stronger social safety nets, there would be less people in the financial straits that make abortion decisions so tough for the individual experiencing an unplanned or challenging pregnancy. When folks say that those programs are "too expensive" or that the individual just has to deal with the consequences of their decisions, we're keeping that persons decision making rational at the bottom of Maslow's hierarchy (personal safety) which means the moral arguments are very unlikely to make a dent. We need to lead with the social justice part of Catholic teaching instead of the legalistic stuff. (And also accept that this will still take a long time).
I love this perspective. As a Catholic who is Pro-life, I completely agree! We cannot always blame someone for their actions they are engaging in when they are literally just trying to survive. We cannot expect women to continue their pregnancies when they don't have access to affordable food or healthcare during their pregnancy or post-partum.
At a certain point it is TWO bodies. And no woman is forced to keep the baby and become a parent if she doesn’t want to. A newborn can be left at any hospital, police station or firehouse no questions asked or legal repercussions.
So many of Khanna's positions are antithetical to Catholic teaching, it's hard to imagine finding "common ground". Definitely interested in seeing how this discussion unwinds.
Healthcare for everyone. Feeding children. Ending war. Housing the homeless. Affordable secondary education. You may be too far away from catholic teaching to understand what you’re saying
@@tookie36this is an issue I’ve run into with my dad. I think he in some ways lets his politics inform his faith rather than his faith informing his politics. You embrace the old with the traditions of America by assimilating people that come into this country legally just like it’s always been done, and that is the backbone of the greatness of our country assimilation
Interesting conversation. We need more of this to find common ground. However he stands with Biden. A Catholic who stumps for Abortion at any stage. He calls Maga voters a threat sub human.
Ro Khanna is one of the reasonable Democrats that are in Congress. He has been less extreme than others and has worked with some of the more populist and libertarian Republicans. Thank you for helping keep me going into a path that brought me back from the sinful road I went on while I was in the military, I needed to return.
I would say, to at least some degree, a society needs a government that upholds justice and ensures a basic level of fairness in society; I think of it like a referee in soccer, without a ref where the goal is to win, a game can get gradually more aggressive as people take advantage of offside positions, attacking players before the ball, bringing more players onto their team, etc and doesn’t make the game any good, so a just referee would do their part to keep it clean while still letting the players compete for the outcome of the game. I share your sentiment about charity vs welfare since it’s just crazy how much money in welfare goes to waste
@@killianmiller6107 why maintain a monopoly of violence when it has no incentive to benefit anybody other than the power for whoever is in charge and their peers? Monopolies in markets only exist due to government. Decentralization in economics always brought more wealth across the board in a much more fair way. Government is the creator of UNFAIRNESS in society, it always has and always will be the greatest evil in this world. Read from Rothbard, Hoppe, Friedman, Hayek, Menger, Spooner, Mises, Hazlitt, and Rockwell. The greatest common denominator of unfair action and inequality always comes from GOVERNMENT. I can tell you are more of a Minarchist, believing in small minimal government involvement in day-to-day lives. That is the majority of Libertarians to be fair. I once held the same beliefs, but seeing much more historical evidence disproves that "small" or "limited" government is possible as the government is a form of monopolistic force against human flourishing. Government is instilled to create and maintain a ruling class that always degrades in quality but has no way to be removed for better leadership to be created by decentralization. Monopolies cannot exist without the state. Corporations in the way you see them today cannot exist without the state. They will always become less efficient and less beneficial for the world. Letting them go through natural economic processes to where they eventually decentralize due to competition would make everything more fair and more beneficial for everybody, regardless of "class" in wealth. Please understand that I believe in only the authority of the King of Kings and His One True Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. The hierarchical structure of business is a natural authority I also believe in, as it is necessary for hierarchies to exist. I am completely Anti-Socialist and Anti-Left wing, especially in economics. I am against right wing authoritarianism as well. The common denominator of both is collectivism that always leads to the downfall of society. God bless. Please keep being awesome as I can tell you and I would agree far more than we disagree. P.S. All welfare is waste as it is STOLEN wealth from those who earned it to those who did not. Charity is the solution and is far better at keeping from waste. Taxation is Armed Robbery and Extortion. Inflation is Theft.

There is no “moral conviction “on the side of ending a baby’s life. There is no morality in that conscious and deliberate decision. A human life starts at conception and no one has a right to end that life. That is my strong belief on this horrible topic . @@AB_NYC Nah, actually it's not "imperialism" at all. Why would you think it is? It's rather to have a voice of *a moral corrective* when humans inexorably override their boundaries. Unfortunately it might also be misunderstood and abused when these boundaries are not clearly defined or perceived.

I thought i saw each leader wince, but really what is offensive to either Jew or Muslim in "blessed are the peacemakers .."? At least for a moment, they had found common ground.
Excellent- no one calls those standIng and cheering abortion rights don’t call it what it really is - killing the unborn child - I could never have imagined that we would see women cheering wanting to be able to kill the child they are carrying for whatever reason and whenever ! How is it acceptable in any society that claims it cares about the marginalized. We have abortion now but how many years will it be before people decide that at some certain age or physical or mental impairment is no longer worth allowing them to continue to live using resources that might be used elsewhere.
I think Bishop Barron nailed it when he said that we have to have the conversation about what is life? What is a “human being?” What is a Person? Until that conversation is respectfully argued, there will be NO progress in the Abortion issue. I don’t think he really wants to define the “natural law.” I think Bishop Barron should have pushed him a bit more on what his definition of the Moral Law is.
Great discussion on many important topics concerning the welfare or well being of America. I would have liked to ask the congressman if there was a number at which the influx of immigrants would be to overwhelming for America. Could the U.S. support 1 billion more immigrants? 2 billion? 3 billion? Europe is economically collapsing in part because of immigration. Is that ok?
The ending is quite ironic. In America we are a melting pot of people who all have an equal opportunity to thrive but he forgets to add the part about everyone except the unborn Americans.
At least we should all admit that abortion is the taking of a human life. We should all be able to agree on that. It’s alive - or you wouldn’t need to kill it. And it’s obviously human, because if not, what species is it? So let’s just at least agree that abortion is taking a human life. And that some people think it’s acceptable and some people don’t.
In terms of Khanna’s talk on economics, I as a moderate conservative agree with him on paper. Everything he said was right. But the thing is that the logistics of achieving this is not so clear cut. What he is calling for, namely a governmental consensus on economic direction, has been tried with far more mixed results than what I believe to be his simplistic stance on the matter. When you begin to involve more regulation meant to protect people, government can and often does become an oppressor without initially intending to be. One only need look in my state of New York to see this. Well intentioned programs do tremendous harm in the name of ideology. Khanna’s center-left social liberalism fails in many regards to solve our social ills as the bureaucratization of society has always been the end result of that movement.
"The decision to abort is between a doctor and their patient." Yeah. The decision to kill my neighbor is between me and my hit-man. So... about cesarian children? Human or not? Mr. Khanna has no argument. I would at least say something better, like "It's a woman's body, so the child is her property." or maybe: "..possession is 9/10 of the law." But then, can we buy and sell those arbitrarily deemed non-human? In order for our country to exist, we need to settle what constitutes a human. Mr. Khanna is just passing off this argument to the mother and doctor. Not a leader here. He needs to stick to economics, and should have backed down instead of spewing the tired party rhetoric.
@brendamyc3173Let's not make up things here, the vast majority of abortions occur in black American areas and is used as a form of birth control so women can continue being promiscuous without ever maturing ensuring we have plenty of criminals for decades to come. Women should be getting married and having children, full stop.
Great discussion. Thank you, both! Unfortunately, a step-by-step argument has to be made to pro-choice advocates. Should invite @TheCounselofTrent on next time to help the congressman see the immorality in his position.
Breaking the Spirit of Man seems to be the issue at hand. People are not important in these conversations. Can you not hear the wailing of Man. We are not broken we are walled in. As a Catholic, I see this happening with the closing of Churches. It is like a rounding up to consolidate. America is huge, it is massive, it is strong, it is compassionate, it is love. A Man with little can live like he has a mansion. A Man wants to work for his opportunity, not have it shaped for him by government. Jesus gives us the plan. He frees us from captivity. Gandhi believed in Christ and he wanted to convert to Christianity, when he wanted to enquire about that he was amazed and confused with so many churches and he said why one God and many churches? Unfortunately he didn’t realise the true Church is Catholic and he missed out but for sure he realised at his death bed and gone to his church through Christ and Mary and saints.❤
The conversation was good discussion of finding common ground in different hot topics, until it turned to abortion. Bishop Barron did a great job, laying out the landscape and the Catholic perspective. Khanna could not bring himself to admit that abortion through nine months is reprehensible, but rather stated the party line that it’s healthcare between a woman and her doctor. When will a Democrat politician be willing to cross that line and acknowledge the reality of what abortion is? Why is there a stranglehold on the nine months line? Why is politics favoring this extremist position?
A good conversation, but at minute 32:35 ff. Mr. Ro Khanna shows (I don't want to say typical American) arrogance and ignorance about European conditions when he claims that neither in France nor in Germany children of immigrants could get higher government positions. France has repeatedly had children of immigrants from the Maghreb or the Antilles in ministerial positions. And in Germany, too, a son of Turkish immigrants currently holds a ministerial office. Mr. Ro Khanna's information is obviously not entirely up to date ...

Talk to more politicians Bishop. Maybe bring a panel of democrats and republicans together and be the facilitator for the panel and solve the immigration, homelessness and poverty issues. You could hold their feet to the political fire. You and Jordan Peterson could work together on this. They need a couple of smart balanced moderaters
Abortion is legal in the Vatican City State, an independent country where no one goes to jail for abortion. They voluntarily adopt mostly Italian law, which legalized abortion in the 1970s. Hence, the Vatican, one might say, is 'pro-choice' in criminal law, but against abortion in Canon law.
I've got an idea. The Bishop should invite 1 Republican and 1 Democrat every month and put each of them on a hot seat. Bring up one issue, propose the Catholic position (you may choose to not say explicitly this is the Catholic view on the issue) and ask each of the guests to give reasons for their [party's] agreement or disagreement with the Catholic view.
Good probing questions Bishop. Unfortunately Mr. Khanna, whether on breaking up monopolies, endowments to universities, immigration, homelessness, etc. talks a good talk but votes with the progressive left.
Because politics is tribal, especially in the US. This same problem absolutely exists in the GOP with the stranglehold the hard-lined right has on the party.
58:21 says he is fine with abortion. 1:01:36 “there is a genius of every individual. Every person has deep worth. Every person has a divinity and a specialness.” Insert meme about “congratulations, ya played yourself” within 3 minutes. (Personally, I couldn’t hold these views simultaneously.)
@@tookie36 depends on what you mean by murder. In a legal sense, many women don’t mens rea, sufficient prior knowledge, of knowing that the embryo/fetus is a unique, whole, living human being on a self directed path to maturity. The medical professional does have the sufficient prior knowledge, so for the medical professional elective abortions would be more akin to murder. I guess it depends what your question is driving at. Would you agree it’s reasonable to at least say abortion is the intentional killing of a living human being in the earliest stages of development? (A failed abortion is when the fetus survives).
@@markbirmingham6011 well if you are going to change the law. You need a written law. Do these embryos have rights? Would it be murder to kill them. Does that mean women go to jail? Grateful Mr. Khanna said yes to this important dialogue. As Bishop Barron notes, conversation touching on religion is actively opposed in the public square, yet this public servant chose to engage. “And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for those who cultivate peace.” James 3:18
This is not correct. The Christian Nationalists talk about religion all the time! Goodness. They want to remove separation of Church and State. Wake up America.
If we can’t even get the most fundamental of rights correct, well…
Get on board Mr. Khanna! Be the next Gandhi, but for our brothers and sisters in the womb. Strive to be great, not just competent.

Thank you Bishop Barron for this discussion in regards to social. Society concerns that were discussed from different leadership our USA in past and present moments.
Always welcome and rare.
@debifox6555
"Goodness and truth" should be taught your kids already from "home", being common values for every single human being indistinctly.
Peace be with you,
From someone who has experienced a crisis pregnancy and knows and feels the forgiveness of God.

Wonderful

Just listening to the three solutions for the homeless throughout the country. Those three solutions have been banned around for a couple decades. Now I would’ve liked to have seen the question phrased in a way about what we do with these people right now.
Yikes Congressman Ro Khanna excuse me For not mentioning your name. You perspective on leadership reminded me of my American beliefs and historical facts as well. As I had American government classes in high school and a political Science course in the University of Arizona in my junior year there . I was told by my professor to continue in politics as a latina American he said we need more women like you! I told him thank you sir. But I want to continue in my healthcare field . As I was already a physical therapist Assistant . But wanted to be in OSHA inspector for healthcare . But a sudden change occurred I had to change my career to law enforcement . As a youth corrections officer and worked in AZ Dept. of Justice as Youth Corrections officer as well. And other law Enforcement agencies.. yet other odd part time jobs in between even worked in a Zoo so yes with Zoo breaks visiting the Zoo animals. It was an awesome experience . YES quite helpful for me. Now retirement . Yet active in voting and prayers to God Almighty in Jesus Christ name. So listening to you was interesting and thoughtful. I respect your perspective . And Thank you for your time and participation in Bishop Barron in this You Tube
video .
Hi Susan, I know you're retired but I'm wondering if in your charity you could help me financially to get on my feet. I'm in a terrible condition in many ways (I'm physically fine except for hunger). I could really use any help I can get. It has affected my faith. I've been drained spiritually, it's a struggle to say the rosary while thinking about how to survive.
Thank you for listening to my rant. God bless you.
Rubbish! Your English is poor. You did not go to University.
This was a debate between a religious secular multicultural moderate vs a exclusivist religious fundamentalist. Many ways highlights the main division within America.
At 30 minutes or so, Ro Khanna goes with the 'I'm from the government and here to help'
A lot of evidence on 'I'm from the government' Not much on the 'help' part.
Interesting equality of opportunity
There is no “moral conviction “on the side of ending a baby’s life. There is no morality in that conscious and deliberate decision. A human life starts at conception and no one has a right to end that life. That is my strong belief on this horrible topic . When my friends start on me with , it’s my body … my choice … it is not your choice to end the life of your baby. Your baby is a human being .
Thank you both for this discussion .
Sorry...it is not health care....now it has become hard for Cong. Khanna.. It is good for people to know about the Truth, natural law, morality, etc.
I pray that God convicts his heart and draw him to Him 🙏🙏🙏
@theresa_paula
What should that suppose to mean?
@@therealongreligious imperialism
@@AB_NYC
Nah, actually it's not "imperialism" at all. Why would you think it is? It's rather to have a voice of *a moral corrective* when humans inexorably override their boundaries.
Unfortunately it might also be misunderstood and abused when these boundaries are not clearly defined or perceived.
@@therealong “yeah” it is, the original comment goes against finding a common ground as both speakers would like to see. Instead she wants a religious colonial imperialism of christianity of Khanna who is Hindu. That’s not common ground.
@@AB_NYC
First, why do you address Ro Khanna as a "she"? For me is a "he".
There are two in the videos, both are "hes". Right?
When former President Carter got the Presidet of Egypt and the President of Israel to agree to try peace, he stood between the two leaders to announce this success to the world and said that as a Christian he wanted to quote from the Christian New Testament, "blessed are the peacemakers...".
It would happen in the UK Ro! And it has.
Thank you!!
You wanna make everyone happy and you make no one happy. No more centrism take a stand.
He is a Punjabi, he would take out his own mother if he thought he could gain from it.
Do you think abortion is murder ?
I do. It is premeditated and the act takes the life of a living human being. What do you think it is? @@tookie36 .
He is our Teacher. Get back to basics , start with Love thy Neighbor.
I agree, Education is overrated. The problem with the Congressman is He is wishy washy, I cannot follow him.
But we can see there is a worldwide issue to flee. Flee from conflict. Hold your ground. Do not fear.
Whatever begins in anger, ends in shame. Benjamin Franklin was the one who said this. I
Gandhi believed in Christ and he wanted to convert to Christianity, when he wanted to enquire about that he was amazed and confused with so many churches and he said why one God and many churches? Unfortunately he didn’t realise the true Church is Catholic and he missed out but for sure he realised at his death bed and gone to his church through Christ and Mary and saints.❤
Liberal Catholicism is such a vibe (neither political party in the U.S. can fully integrate the faith, because it is the minority and is challenging)
Liberal Catholicism is heretical and garbage
I dislike marrying Catholicism with any political ideology, left or right. I think it is very dangerous.
He probably was referring to 1st generation immigrants, not 2nd or 3rd.
@@NihilSineDeo09 As far as I know, Mr. Ro Khanna was born in Philadelphia. Like him, Cem Özdemir (minister in the current German government) is a son of 1st generation immigrants.

How about starting with "Though Shalt Not Kill" Or perhaps even in a broader sense, Though Shalt Not Murder.

I'd also say that we shouldn't focus too much on colour. He is a soul, regardless of the "clothing".
When he calls the overturn of roe vs wade “heartbreaking” so sad
Good probing questions Bishop. Unfortunately Mr. Khanna, whether on breaking up monopolies, endowments to universities, immigration, homelessness, etc. talks a good talk but votes with the progressive left.
Because politics is tribal, especially in the US. This same problem absolutely exists in the GOP with the stranglehold the hard-lined right has on the party.

Do you think abortion is murder ?
Doctors go to jail? Hospitals sued? Task forces to investigate millions of murders? Are these actual murders ? Or are they different? I think too many people ignore the nuance and that’s why these conversations never go anywhere
@@tookie36 agreed there are significant legal and ethical challenges in alerting the legal & social framework to include basic protections for all humans. In my opinion, these challenges shouldn’t prohibit efforts to move in a more just direction. There were considerable legal & social challenges in movements for civil rights protections and women’s rights, but personally, I’m glad those challenges didn’t prohibit society from evolving to take those steps.
(Also I’m not trying to beg the question by simply saying protections for the unborn moves society in a more just direction. Although I believe it would. The point I’m trying to emphasize is that the challenges that come with a movement in that direction are not reason enough to avoid doing so IF doing so would make society more just) cheers
Bishop, Kamala Harris talked in a pro abortion rally, cited the Declration of Independence ( life, liberty and the pursue of happiness, right?) She left out LIFE, because she was talking about having abortions without any restrictions, the opposite of Life)
