It's not really the anime that's cringey. It's the ignorance about real japanese culture, terrible Japanese and terrible dancing in terrible costumes. If anime turns you into a cosplayer, makes you learn a new language, embrace a new culture that's all fine. You can even get overly excited about it. What's cringey, is how terrible these people are at what they do and that somehow we still see (mostly self recorded) footage of these fails. These people would be an embarassment to any hobby they start putting out shitty videos about. There's always bad apples. Like gay people get a terrible raport for the overly flamboyant annoying idiots, it's like black people having to live with stereotypes of gangs or how white people get a bad rap for Mitt Romney.

I'm not big on anime, and I don't mind people who watch it, but I find it funny that my friend does things similar to this (not the cosplaying) and does not embarrass herself like this.
She's learning Japanese because she's befriended someone who is not great at English, and she thought it would be easier to eventually learn the language so they could communicate easier.
She also enjoys "Pocky" because (as she said) "this tastes good why the hell should I have to be a weeaboo to enjoy it"
