In ShenZhen there is a mall that sells fakes, the higher the floor the better. Some Sellers claim their super fakes are actually the actually product made from cutting excess/waste. Those carry a significantly higher price. It’s been years since I’ve seen that mall so things may have changed.
I can assure you that excess / waste stuff is pure lie. Hermès keeps the best leather (sourced in Italy for Togo and most of the casual leather) and refuse to sell it to other brands. Even if those Italian suppliers pretend that they sell « similar Hermès quality leather», they lie. Hermès has very strict contracts and they investigate. No company is allowed to sell their leather. If one try, they just stop to source from them. And we are talking about 3 suppliers, family businesses like Hermès. They work for decades together. Plus Hermés has it own leather factories in France. They basically bought them. Rare exotic leather (crocs, ostrich, lizard) are directly sourced by Hermès from their own farms. They have their own subsidiary for those precious leathers. This Hermès subsidiary sell to other brands like Chanel, LV) but they keep the best leathers for them.
I feel like everybody always worries about getting a fake. But it’s much more common to have the experience that you had. The merchandising and listing data is not very good and there’s barely any photos on the real real. I do shop there, but I really wish they would improve the listing information. They just have so much volume going through their warehouses that it’s really difficult to have the attention to detail to make sure that these items are appropriately merchandised. Currently going through a re-authentication process since I’m pretty sure the leather type of my bag was also a misprint
I bought a fake from The Real Real and they did not apologize to me. It failed all 4 authentication services including Entropy for the Chanel Heart Bag. Saying sorry for incorrectly listing leather I guess is easier to apologize than for selling me a fake Chanel bag over $6000. Til the end they never admitted it was fake. I don't know where the heart bag I bought from them came from but that would be a great candidate for you.
Thanks for sharing this. For this reason I will keep buying from all preloved markets with new accounts each time to see how often these things happen so I cam share with my audience. To avoid a special treatment, I will use new accounts and addresses to be a random customer. I think there is still a lot to explore in the preloved platforms.
Thanks for this video, it's definitely shed light on people like myself who don't have a great deal of confidence on purchasing secondhand luxury goods. You've done it again, Tanner Leatherstein!
I have used The Real Real and enjoyed my experience, receiving a NWT bag exactly as described. They defintely need to step up their customer service though, especially now with more competitors on the narket.
HI Tanner thanks for the interesting update and indeed Entrupy is definitely more reliable than just eyeballing it. I feel there are more fakes of the Classic Chanel Flap as that has been under hot demand for over two decades and so there has been more time to "engineer" the Chanel classic flap to make it look more real. As for Hermes, I feel like it has only blown up over the past 5-10 years and so the technology is not as good although improving. Generally the grains of the leather and the smell along with really poor stitching will give it away. In my personal opinion I have yet to see a very good super fake also. I feel they always cut corners somewhere and it is always noticeable upon closer inspection. I don't personally own or endorse fakes but certainly can recognize them, esp the ones I have a lot of experience in using the authentic one. There is always something giving it away. Look forward to your adventure and enjoyed this video! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing your experience. I already got a few leads from my audience after this video. I will continue digging to see the superfakes if I can get them. I will keep sharing as I learn more. Thank you for your support!
I stay away from these second hand dealers such as Real Real and Poshmark. They kiss you when they wanted you on their platforms but offer no backup in service. These days I donate my designer stuff to thrift shops where other people can benefit with minimal cost. Would rather lose $ than benefiting platforms who have no spines.
I don’t want to believe that we can’t enjoy selling and swapping quality items on the resale market. As you said, it is a great and often more affordable way to enjoy luxury items and give older items a new life. I love vintage items, and of course the only way to enjoy vintage is to get it on the resale market. At the end of the day you have to accept that yeah, there is always a possibility that any item out there not fresh new from the store is fake. But what are the odds? Does that mean the resale market should not exist? I tend to think that is exactly what the luxury brands want us to believe.
My real real experience in the beginning was okay. Until I bought a shirt and it was damage and they didn't even catch that. I never bought stuffs from them again. They suck.Good video so much FUN :D
I recently bought a couple of Thom Browne items on the Real Real. The shoes appeared to be fakes as they were poorly put together. The clothing wasn't sure but sent it all back. Not worth taking a chance at the prices.
Shocked that so many bad experiences with TRR. I have always had amazing service and FINAL sales aren’t always FINAL when there are issues. ISSUES that I have always observed are sizing related; e.g. they measure waist at 26 inches but it’s actually 29 inches, OR onetime, I ordered shoes in my size (6) but they sent me size (9).
Great video! I am quite an avid collector of LV bags and I did catch on 2 occasions listings that was obviously fake on a LV Cherry Blossom Pochette bag. Maybe because the bag was not a Level 5 bag? But it was so obvious to me that it was fake. RealReal should hire me part time 😂
I think all these platforms can benefit from seasoned authenticators as the sheer volume of transactions they handle, the mishaps happens way more often than it should I guess
TRR needs to take better pictures and I've found a couple blatant fakes before so it's hard to trust them. Dooney & Bourke has a bag from their Henry's collection that looks to be excellent quality and looks similar to the Hermes Evelyne. It would be interesting to see you dissect that bag :) Glad you were ok in the scary outdoors and got the bag 😂
I had a friend who was an agent in China in the fashion industry and he gave me a CD catalogue back in 2005 of fake bags from a factory in China. He told me that the factory was in the middle of no-where and underground and huge. They sent out the merchandise via truck to a stop where it changed trucks and drivers and this several times so no one knew where the factory was apart from the original driver. I did look at the products and visually they seemed good but as I wasn't interested in labels like LV or others I didn't look further.
The RealReal has been sued by Chanel and Luxottica for selling fakes. They were also sued for selling diamonds that were at lower carat weight than what they advertised.
Your skit of buying the fake bags was so funny. I have some lower price fakes (less than $70.00) that I have bought at thrift stores and ports in the Caribbean. People who own genuine bags from the big names have looked at them and it is apparent they are fakes.
Yes, my experience matches with what you said. Turkish ones were quite easy to tell but the Guangzhou purchase seems pretty well. I will dissect it to make a video soon. Its a Chanel dupe
@@tanner.leatherstein "all of them had quite easy tells signs" per the video but according to this comment, "the Guangzhou purchase seems pretty well"? Those two statements don't match up at all. If you really wanted to investigate whether replicas can be convincing, you'd have first bothered to research where good-quality replicas are made--not bought 2 out of 3 bags from the wrong country and continent.
Yes the color of the kislux is beautiful and it is a great decision, maybe one day they will add feet and straps. It would be nice to have a bigger bag during the colder months when we have to store gloves, beanies, scarves, etc…
wow great video🎉i think preloved authentic branded stuff are more and more worth than buying new because the brands do not endorse us😂and the price can be more than 50 percent discount from the new😊
Fascinating, i consigned 3items with the real real, it really matters as a seller what brand, in the end, i will be a buyer but i will never sell with them again.
Actually just yesterday had a pickle with another preloved bag I bought from another platform (not real real) hoping to sort it out before I make the video. So you are right. These things are hurting my trust in preloved route
This is why I will never buy preloved. It's still far too expensive for a fake and in my opinion and too risky if I ever change my mind and want to sell it. I would much rather pay for a contemporary brand like Coach (vintage Coach) or from quality independent leather craft stores. I don't care about the brand, I care about the aesthetic and the quality. But as I said, I can see how these fakes are ruining the pre-loved market for those shopping vintage which is sad because vintage is so beautiful.
I view TRR often . I watch videos and have heard many different experiences Re authentication/Customer experience. I believe having a large platform helped in this case. I don’t have the confidence to purchase from the pre loved market yet. I had been eyeing the Vintage LV denim bags which were previously quite affordable and now with the new relaunch from LV the vintage denim bags are now over 3k.
If you know your way around handbags, heading to consignment stores where you can inspect the product in person could be worth it. There's a huge market for these in person secondhand sales in Japan. There's a low chance that you would end up with a super fake, but if a bag is good enough to trick an authenticator a lot of people wouldn't care whether or not it's real. Expensive trip, but if you were already going there, and have that kind of knowledge, it could be worth it. Especially if you wanted Hermes without having to play their annoying game.
I have bought a Hermes scarf from them and it was definitely authentic and new. I guess I got lucky but I also paid a lot because it was a highly sought after Ugo Gattoni Hippoppolis scarf.
I had the silliest frustrating experience with RR customer nonsupport. I was looking at Mark Cross listings and one item was a ballpoint pen. I recognized it immediately because I have one…. Made by Cross, not Mark Cross. I naively assumed someone at RR would be happy to know so they could change the description and take it out of the Mark Cross listings. I was wrong. Nobody actually listened, nobody cared. They kept repeating their robotic responses. Avoiding this mistake did not require sophisticated authentication. It required only that somebody read the company name on the pen.
Interesting insight into the damage control The Real Real (TRR) does when repairing its reputation. I am curious if this degree of authentication is applied to lower security clearances. The video footage segued from a "level 5" Hermès bag into AI tools and hardware tools towards authentication; however, it still remains unclear if this degree of thoroughness is applied across the board. For example, will a human "expert" thoroughly assess a Coach bag by utilizing all available tools at their disposal (cross-referencing AI databases, testing the hardware etc.)? Heck, will this degree of thoroughness be applied to cheaper and more common products from more "esteemed" fashion houses (LV Damier, Gucci Ophidia etc.)? I remain skeptical b/c it becomes obvious that these businesses thrive and survive on sheer volume and so, we are left with more questions than meaningful answers. The take away from this tour was that TRR basically told the viewer, "Look at what we do for max security clearance merch. Trust us, bro." We are back at square one where the secondary market is at the mercy of the authenticator's word against the ever-improving counterfeit industry.
I just bought a beautiful triangle clutch by Yves Saint Laurent on Vestiaire. At first glance I was confused as into why the zipper didn’t have name logo but it’s because this ones a vintage one I found from the 1980s an designer bags back then didn’t have the logos on there zippers.
I bought from The Real Real a rare Chanel lego clutch, the price was too good to be true. I used authentication service, everything was good until I received the bag which was not as described; so many broken pieces and missing pearls when I complained, they refunded me $180, and it was not good enough, but the blowing mind deal made me keep the bag
That scene where those two guys wearing nylon stockings over their heads/faces and putting a potato bag over your head to whisk you away in their van was crazy. Hilarious too. To have to go through all of that just to get a copy handbag! I lived in China for three years. They have a five story building near the border with Hong Kong that sells nothing but copy goods. Each floor has around 100 shops! Each one selling copy goods. All five floors! It gets so busy there that they even opened up a seafood restaurant at the top floor! China is THE biggest culprit for making copy goods. And they are really good at it! The Chinese. They love to just copy it or steal the plans to make it. Much cheaper and easier for them to do this. No problem.
I purchased a pre owned black epi bag on eBay some years ago..as soon as I received it, I was confident it was fake…as I had owned a black epi and used it 10 yrs every day…mine did not scuff or chip on the corners and did not scratch….the fake had a soft sprayed paint on it with lots of deep scratches without a general sign of wear…the bag came from a seller from Japan with thousands of good feedback….Vuitton would not authenticate without sending to france
So i recently purchased from the real real a louis vuitton and a Gucci bag , these bags i can tell they are real heres my biggest problem with them the descriptions, the gucci bag stated wear fading on bottom with picture of bottom corner also showed the picture of corner so i was ok with that i wanted a hobo bag that i didn't have a baby. When i got the bag it literally had 3 holes 1 hole in each corner very obvious holes. they say fair condition but i've noticed theres certain term words about the bag they wont use in description probably them worried it wont sell. It was not a bag that could not be returned . So they got me . Ive purchased Chanel and lv from fashionphile way better experience,
I found a pair of "GUCCY" men's shoes on RealReal today. Notice an issue with the spelling of Gucci? Only 3 inches high on the side of the shoe, so maybe the missed it. Maybe it was part of a special release
I purchase Bottega lug boots from RealReal. They were listed as brand new. My sister has a pair and I’ve worn hers before (purchased at store). The ones I received had cheaper leather material and was very light in weight compared to hers. The stitching was also different. I let realreal know and they refunded me but they haven’t taken the listing down. What was odd was that even after I purchased, the listing was still there. It’s almost as if they had several of the same size. So now, 4 months later.. they still have the listing up.
I have two sources of "superfakes" I'd be happy to send you the info to see how these bags hold up against authentication. I have one from one of these sources, and it, to me, is exceptional, but I've never put it up against AI authentication. Is there a preferred way to send you the info for those contacts, as I can't post them in UA-cam comments. Thanks for the great content, it's really fascinating.
The RealReal sold me a fake Chanel handbag. I contacted them & they refunded because they knew it was fake. It wasn’t even a good fake. To my surprise & horror, I saw the same handbag relisted. WTF!! I’ll never buy luxury handbags from them ever again. I do like the videos here though.
The super fakes are the artisans who actually makes the bag as their real job. There are a few Hermes Artisan for hire in secret where they made Birkin after work. Since the Birkin is done by one person (not a production line), this super rep is possible as it is made by the same person who makes the "genuine"
Real Real has some issues. I have tried to use their service in the past. Their pricing for literally brand new (never been worn) clothing is way under par. They price it so low! It’s ridiculous. I’m talking about a designer clothing item not even a year old! Yet they went so far down I found it ridiculous to just leave it with them. So I asked to have it returned to me. But then that too was an issue. They don’t allow you to just pick up your item at one of the locations where you dropped off your item. No. They instead ship it back to you. But this takes awhile. To where you end up trying to call them to find out where is your item? It was frustrating. Won’t be using them again. No.
Guys save your money buy from a shop 3 or 4 classic high end bags then forget it never again. Never sell, never buy 2 nd hand. End of story, buy real estate or gold and diamonds
Me myself, I would rather have a fake bag, but I don’t like the way they do in China to those people that make it they don’t get paid much so therefore I don’t purchase at all if I buy a bag it will be an inexpensive bag, but it will not have a label. I’m not a label girl anymore.
Tanner I so admire your work, so I'm puzzled by that Hollywood type footage of men putting a bag over your head & whisking you away. Since one of your people was recording it, commonsense would conclude that it was a dramatization. Please don't go Hollywood on us! We count on you to be real.

In ShenZhen there is a mall that sells fakes, the higher the floor the better. Some Sellers claim their super fakes are actually the actually product made from cutting excess/waste. Those carry a significantly higher price. It’s been years since I’ve seen that mall so things may have changed.
I visited a mall like that in Guangzhou last month. It was very interesting indeed. Will make a video to share that experience as well
I can assure you that excess / waste stuff is pure lie.
Excess/waste materials are tagged by an orange paint in shops I've seen in DongGuan.
Superfakes are out of Japan…
Years ago I received an entire catalog of superfakes that could be purchased. My ex husband got it when he was stationed in Okinawa in the mid90s.
Love your content 👏 Thank you for pulling the curtain back on a small sector of the luxury market and of craftsmanship
Awesome exploration! Super fascinating direction, and well done by TRR to open up and show you how they operate to keep trust.
The variety of textures in the kislux pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.

Great video, so interesting to see how they approach the authentication process at the Real Real. Love your content 😊
@amygirl2142 ▪︎ I no longer trust that in-store purchases are authentic either.
My real real experience in the beginning was okay. Until I bought a shirt and it was damage and they didn't even catch that. I never bought stuffs from them again. They suck.Good video so much FUN :D
Thanks for sharing! And glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah their listings are crap. They once listed my Hermès shoes as Black and they were Army green
Thank you for suggestion. I want to check that D&B bag you mention
you’re literally my comfort person i love you kislux !
Nicely presented. Very professional in your approach. Much to learn from.
Love your channel. Always so informative.
I’ve heard the Turkish fakes aren’t very good. The factories in Guangzhou, China do the best Hermes fakes allegedly.
It would be nice to have a bigger bag during the colder months when we have to store gloves, beanies, scarves, etc…
wow great video🎉i think preloved authentic branded stuff are more and more worth than buying new because the brands do not endorse us😂and the price can be more than 50 percent discount from the new😊
This was a great video and very informative. I love ❤️ your videos.
Fascinating, i consigned 3items with the real real, it really matters as a seller what brand, in the end, i will be a buyer but i will never sell with them again.
I LAUGH how you bought the fake luxury bags. good ones!! thumb up.
Thank you for your integrity!
Thank you 🙏
For me fakes have destroyed the second hand market. I’d rather spend a little more and be sure it’s real.
I agree
Watching all the ads to support you!!!! ❤❤
Love that you guys turned this to a very interesting content. so creative. Also wtf 7:30 😂😂😂😂😂
I have bought a Hermes scarf from them and it was definitely authentic and new. I guess I got lucky but I also paid a lot because it was a highly sought after Ugo Gattoni Hippoppolis scarf.
Non related to the content of this video, but... I love the new hair look.
OMG! your experience with the counterfiters group is Scarry😳!
Love the RealReal!
That a good audit !
Also this was very leathertational, thank you
I just bought a beautiful triangle clutch by Yves Saint Laurent on Vestiaire.
I would be way more interested about their experts' certifications.
Tanner, you need to start producing short films lol
Gonna watch this after work
Your lovely video definitely need a Hermes exotic handbag 🤭🤭
Ive purchased Chanel and lv from fashionphile way better experience,
How do you feel about bags that come from FASHIONPHILE?
Can you do also video bag reviews of your company Pegai? I’m interested on knowing more about the Bucky italian bag 😊
If they do not know the TYPE of leather, how can they know if it IS even real leather? 😂
I found a pair of "GUCCY" men's shoes on RealReal today. Notice an issue with the spelling of Gucci? Only 3 inches high on the side of the shoe, so maybe the missed it. Maybe it was part of a special release
Knowing u are coming over to check out the goods...of course they put out all the real deals out for u to check...haist
Excellent! Thank you for looking into this. I feel much more comfortable trusting The RR. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for your support. It is my pleasure to learn this stuff personally and seeing this content being helpful when I share makes it super nice
Very interesting video.
Can you do a deep dive into Rebag next?
Can't wait to have another bag shopping day soon KKUWAN
I purchase Bottega lug boots from RealReal. They were listed as brand new. My sister has a pair and I’ve worn hers before (purchased at store). The ones I received had cheaper leather material and was very light in weight compared to hers. The stitching was also different. I let realreal know and they refunded me but they haven’t taken the listing down. What was odd was that even after I purchased, the listing was still there. It’s almost as if they had several of the same size.
So now, 4 months later.. they still have the listing up.
Great video thanks soo much
Glad you like it
LV super fake alan biri taniyorum, Bali'den almiş ve pahali. Videolarinizi çok beğeniyorum ve paylaşiyorum 😊
Can you share those 2 contacts. ?
I’d like the source. Can you share?
The RealReal sold me a fake Chanel handbag. I contacted them & they refunded because they knew it was fake. It wasn’t even a good fake. To my surprise & horror, I saw the same handbag relisted. WTF!! I’ll never buy luxury handbags from them ever again. I do like the videos here though.
I've never bought from the reel reel and probably never will
En el momento en que vi el bolso kislux , supe que tenía que tenerlo.
New subscriber here, can you show us, or do you have a video teaching how to authenticate?
The super fakes are the artisans who actually makes the bag as their real job. There are a few Hermes Artisan for hire in secret where they made Birkin after work. Since the Birkin is done by one person (not a production line), this super rep is possible as it is made by the same person who makes the "genuine"
It's still real lol
@phillipwong3754 ▪︎ this urban legend is yrs old.
@@bethanyanderson1745 is not a legend when I know people who got the bags
No.
Never, buy at real real, 😢many said they sent bad quality bags 😢
I love you so much! I recently just found your kislux and i’m in love!! Your videos are so fun and you energy is just MWAH! keep living your life
Hi Tanner! Can you please review the quality and craftsmanship of Lalage Beaumont?
Also, Aspinal Of London
Absolutely dramatization. Trying to add some fun pieces in the story. 😅
Actually this was the best part of the video! Loved it!
OK, I may have over reacted. 🤔
I saw a video of someone comparing an alleged super fake Saint Laurent tote with a real one purchased directly from YSL. I am really no expert but the différence were easy to spot.
i love you so much! I recently just found your *amzrepe* and i’m in love!! Your videos are so fun and you energy is just MWAH! keep living your life

7:30 I can't believe The Real Real did this to you!
I DO NOT recommend shopping at REAL REAL . Customer service is awful 😢
Customer service was terrible indeed. If you have an issue take it back to a physical location to get help - many comments suggested
For every “authenticator” who says genuine, there will be another who says fake. I don’t trust any of them😊
Known for many fakes:/ I got a fake Gucci. So sketchy to buy something expensive.
