We cruise NCL, no judgement, I pay attention to what I'm eating and who I'm with not what people are wearing. The dress doesn't change the taste or presentation of the food.

I always wear a collared shirt and long pants sometimes short pants to dinner. But that’s just me, I like to get that going out for dinner feeling. It doesn’t bother me what others wear, as long as they are wearing clothes to dinner 😂
Someone’s said in the comments and it’s very true. As soon as they took the table cloth away they also removed any kind of formality.
You've reversed cause and effect. The public's indifference to dressing appropriately long predated the cruise lines indifference to providing a refined ambience. Casual dining for casual people.

@@bogeo8459 He's on Carnival, you can wear almost anything to MDR on Carnival (a few exceptions like swimwear, PJs, Tank tops on men, etc).

Lol, it’s nice to dress up for dinner. I always love it when I’m on the ship. I’m not talking about formal night. I’m just talking about every day. It’s part of cruising for me.

When you work in an office and are required to wear nylons everyday and no dress slacks ever allowed … my vacations are resorts with casual dressing 24/7!

Looking good all dressed for dinner Tony… but to be fair, I usually don’t go around congratulating folks for doing the bare minimum lol
Here is my story: I wear flip-flops🩴😮🩴, either in maining dining room or specialty dining. Here to explain: At dinner I often wear my festive french-polynesian clothes - maxi dress 👗with traditional flower printing, traditional crown with tahitian flowers 🌺🌸and my traditional "Sunday" flip-flops🩴, which are nicely handcraft decorated.
Once a lady complaint about my "beach" outfit, especially about my flip-flops, at entrance to restaurant. Restaurant manager (from Philippines) then explained her very politely, that I'm wearing traditional festive clothes from French-Polynesia and there is nothing to complain about it. I was smiling rest of evening and the lady (sitting at next table) was there looking grumpy all evening.

Didn’t look like a MDR more casual food court.. happy Cruising, in relation to people not noticing what you were wearing….it was probably out of respect they didn’t draw attention but were secretly thinking Tony looks good tonight! Happy Caroosing 🤚✋
If I could, I would wear slacks and a jacket, or the kilt, at all times for cruising. Depending on the accessories, the kilt covers the spectrum from totally casual, with a polo and sandals, to formal with French cuffs, a black bow and jacket, and everything in between. (Including pirate night.)
I win the lotto, I'm getting a second suit. Go big or go home I always say on the way home.

Hey if they don’t have tablecloths anymore, then the “dress code” in the MDR should relax too. The dining vibe is not formal anymore in my opinion and I’m cool with that!

A collard shirt and long pants is not too much to ask for in the MDR. Tee-shirts & shorts are fine for other dining venues. I know this is a big debate, but that’s my 2 cents.

There are cruise lines where it is expected that you will dress up for dinner and there are cruise lines where you will be allowed into the main dining room as long as you are appropriately covered. If you want everyone to be dressed to a certain standard in the main dining room, go on one of the cruise lines that requires that.

While Carnival is NOT a preferred cruise, I have to say that the MDR and the casual dining options that I have experienced have been excellent. And the service is quite good. The dinner menu you showed was excellent and made me wish I was back on a ship.

We love dressing up on formal nights even though far fewer people did this time, it has been something we always look forward to. However, people can wear what they want if the cruise line are OK with it, we aren’t the Tuxedo police. However, I had the opposite on the Enchanted Princess where I got a slightly aggressive and unsolicited explanation from a guy on why he doesn’t dress up. 🤷🏻♂️ Just because a lot of people can afford cruises doesn’t mean they are a “fit”.
