Roland XP10: The big step forward in the 90's

  • The 90's was such an exciting time for musicians. The cost of tech took a big dive and suddenly some amazing synths became available. "Pro Audio" became just plain "Good" audio for small-time music makers and hobbyists. The XP-10 is a particularly memorable example of such massive power becoming widely available. I think the year was '93...

Thanks for the video about my beloved FIRST Synshisizer. The ROLAND XP 10 , was my most memorable synth,i was just 20 yrs old(in 1996) ,and i allready had PC 386 DX 40Mhz WITH Sound Blaster 16,that came with MIDI KIT(that included midi cables to plug it in soung blaster 16 game/midi port,so when i bought this ROLAND i IMMIDIATELY connected it to my pc and ,hey presto-i instantly got a pro sequencer,so i composed many tunes and arrangement's ,and ,jingles for a radio that i worked at a time,...saidly..i composed a song to my ever lasting first REAL "I Wanna marry her"Girlfriend, and when she left me,i was devestated and i sold my roland xp,for a half a price, and it allways remeber's me on my lost love, and my very first "proffesional"synth.

I bought a second hand Roland XP10 for the fourth fraction of his value in perhaps 1997? It result to bring home to my children an entry level professional keyboards here in Argentina. So they grow up playing the xp10 though they really both play great the piano. We are from Argentina. Many years ago I bought them (they are in their twenties by then) a Yamaha P35. And I said... now the Yamaha yours the xp10 is mine.
So now I am trying to learn piano in the xp10 myself. I am an amateur guitarrista and dad. Greetings from Argentina Republic.

This is the video I was waiting for!!! I've been looking for this Keyboard for years. These are what my school district had. I took Midi classes in 7th, 9th and 12th grade. I grew to love these little guys and I have fond memories of playing them. I could never find it because I always thought it was a Yamaha. I was looking just last week online at every Yamaha model LOL.
Should have known it was a Roland.
But the pitch bend, volume/control sliders, buttons etc are so well made. Plus this is the look I prefer. All black, sleek, basic and very neat looking. No childish colors and rubber buttons. Just pure functionality.
I was obsessed with playing the drums on these. They were pretty responsive too! Great vid man

Someone here said it was useless on stage. This was actually used on stage quite a lot. The thing is extremely lightweight and 100% plastic everything, minus the components. I remember seeing on Good Morning America the Backstreet Boys playing this on stage. While basic, its Extremely versatile for midi use. It’s also useful for composing, then transferring your finished midi files to actual synthesizers.
