    OpenTX & EdgeTX have always had the option to use your own WAV files and assign them to any switch, condition or function. It's great for audible warnings and music and so simple to do. I've been using OpenTX - EdgeTX on my Taranis X9D+ from FrSky since 2015 on all my quadcopters and multiple aircraft, it's an awesome radio. My new Futaba 16IZ is a great radio (much better build quality than Radiomaster or Spektrum), but not giving the user the ability to customize your own sounds is pretty pathetic.

      That’s pretty cool being able to use your own sound files. I need to try out an OpenTX transmitter.
      I do feel Futaba could do better. I’m not sure if the speech function in the 32MZ works the same way or not. I’m guessing it probably does.

    My spektrum ix14 has text to speech but not happy with the gimbal quality and the boot up time like 1 min to start transmitter ….transmitter works but tablet takes forever

      1 minutes boot time would probably drive me nuts. Is there no fast boot options. The Powerbox transmitters have fast boot option. I’m guessing it must not fully shutdown, like a standby mode perhaps.

    Finally. This is the main reason I preferred using my graupner or spectrum over Futaba that I have.

    • @MattTakharRC
      @MattTakharRC  6 місяців тому +1

      How’s the graupner compare?

    • @jadamian75
      @jadamian75 6 місяців тому

      @@MattTakharRC The Graupner 32MZ has been great. I had the Spektrum IX20 and Futaba 16iz. The Futaba I fealt really needed the speech function on the switches.
      The Spektrum ix20 was the easiest to program and had the type to speech function which was my favorite feature. Unfortunately a lot of the receivers telemetry and flight battery packs telemetry modules stopped working or arrived not working on Spektrum. The radio also crashed a few times and removed all my voice switch assignments on the model it was on.
      Graupner gave me the speech functions I wanted (it’s a menu picking type not type to speech). Graupner was a great price for all the features. It is not as easy to program as Spektrum especially for speech. The gyro receiver was too complicated to be worth trying again. Spektrum is easier and Futaba does not have affordable gyro receivers.
      Out of all of them Futaba 16iz battery last by far the longest. The 16iz is extremely lightweight as well compared to the others.
      I have also thought about the FrSky top radios using Ethos that look great for the money but I really don’t need a 3rd radio type.

    I’d like to know if it is similar to the 18MZ as far as adding voice files? Can you add wave files. Can you add voice on startup and shutdown? Add voice to every switch? Which was all fun. I wish I kept my 18MZ WC.

    • @MattTakharRC
      @MattTakharRC  5 місяців тому

      Hi. It’s not as complex of capable as the voice functionality in the 18MZ. For what I can see you can only assign the pre-defined voice commands to the switches, dials, sliders etc
      You can’t add your own WAV files.
      They have also confirmed they aren’t printing the voice functionality to the 18SZ

    Ist der T18SZ für mich optimal oder würdest auch andere Alternativen empfehlen zb die viel günstigere T16IZ ? Möchte nur Elektrosegeln und mit dem Zeit irgend Motorangetriebene gutmütige Hochdecker bis hin zum Extra 2,6m/70-120cm³. Besitze nur Grund Englischkentnisse...

      Both are great transmitters. I currently still have both of them. If you can stretch the. I would got for the T16IZ Super or the standard one (non super). This will future proof yourself a bit more.
      Be aware that the T16IZ has dropped the FASST protocol, which in fairness is an old protocol. This is due to EU regulations.

    Ps ... if you could type text in and assign them to button, you'd better not leave your TX lying around, the jokes are bad enough at our place already without being called a 🦄 when swiching to low rates!

    Hi Matt Takhar RC, your content is very informative and enjoyable to watch.
    May I ask you something?
    Can you measure the distance between the sticks of the futaba 18SZ?
    I see you use both radios futaba 16IZ and 18SZ. Which one do you prefer for F3A?
    Thanks
    Angel

    • @MattTakharRC
      @MattTakharRC  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi, thanks for your feedback, it’s appreciated!
      The sticks on 18SZ are 110mm apart, measured from the centre of each one.
      I prefer the 16IZ as the newer firmware has introduced speech, which you can assign to switches. Which would be useful for F3A if you are using conditions, dual rates etc

    Hi Matt iam interested in a 16is super and iam wondering becuase you have one would it suit someone with small hands,and do you think it is a thick radio on the side or a reasonably thin radio on the side so i could get my jands around it prooerly as a thumber pilot,thanks Matt,oh great futaba videos buy the way love the information

    • @MattTakharRC
      @MattTakharRC  4 місяці тому

      Hi Tony, thanks for the feedback. It’s a thin radio, you notice it when you hold it. I would also recommend a neck strap if you don’t already use one. It really helps take the weight of the radio and makes things more comfortable. The 16iz is a great radio.

    Your video is purely to inform Futaba owners about this update, GREAT. What amazes me, is how Open Tx owners have to say they already have this function, most of us are already aware of this, which is not relevant to this video tutorial, which is purely for Futaba T16IZ owners. Would i change to Open Tx NO NO, Futaba everytime and love the update. Hopefully Futaba will roll out the same updates for their other TX models. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO 👍

    • @MattTakharRC

      I think most people know I'm a Futaba fan, mainly because it is the manufacture I used years ago when I first started out. Actually JR then Futaba, using the 9 Zap TX.
      I think it's great that manufactures now add new features via software updates. We've been spoilt as that's what other technology providers do, Microsoft, Apple, Android etc... it's the world we live in, we expect new features.
      I don't really know enough about Open TX to comment on it however I do feel in this hobby most people stick to what they know and are comfortable with. Like many things in life. Plus the cost of changing can stack up, especially when you have a number of models (hide).
      With each manufacture there are bound to be pro's and con's. I could list a number with the Futaba TX I have, like why has the lettering started to disappear on my TX lol. You never know, they may role out this feature to other transmitters and perhaps make it more configurable.
      There is probably a license/cost implication when adding/using "text to speech" functionality. Perhaps that's what stopped them. Let me know if anyone finds out!
      Thanks for the feedback Barrie.

      I would imagine they pipe up so that newcomers realize that you don't need to spend a lot of money to get features like this. I started with Futaba back in the day but I've been running EdgeTX/OpenTX for years now. I can't see myself going back to Futaba unless they released an EdgeTX handset. I Love the build quality of Futbaba but EdgeTX is super flexible and more powerful. It's practically a requirement for FPV pilots like myself too.
