In this video I review the $100 Rode NT USB Mini microphone and compare it to a $37 microphone and a $1,600 microphone! I will go over all the features of the Rode NT USB Mini and give you samples of spoken word recording as well as vocal recordings. The Rode NT USB Mini is an excellent microphone for podcasters, gamers, and vocalists.

For a moment lets forget about the mic and talk about how beautifully you have sung this song and how awesome it sounds with the whole mix. Keep it up!!
Haha! Thanks so much! 🙏😀
@@SanjayC Man, now I just want you to do a full cover. You bring a more modern vibe to the song that I prefer.
Love this sound too!
Yes veddy beautiful 😅
When its all said and done and everything’s in the mix I really couldn’t tell much difference between them all. How acoustically treated your room is and how you use your gear is honestly a lot more important and effective for quality vocals in my opinion. Great video, and what a cool little USB mic!
I agree. In a different mix, I think the Peluso would stand out, but maybe not worth all the extra cash! ;-)
I really wonder what the vocals would sound like in a different room. Listening to the VO for the video through headphones it certainly has a lot of "roomy" reverb, and I have to wonder if the mics were picking up that reverb. This might affect the overall sound/clarity/colour/tone?? Also When are you going to build a home vocal booth like Booth Junkie? :P
Omg thé 1600 mic ISNT WORTH IT
I’ve been out of the music game for almost 10 years. I used to create electronic music and played live for years. I stopped to focus on my career and recently realized that something was missing in my life and decided to begin creating music again. I just began the process of getting my studio set up with new gear and couldn’t be more excited. Your videos couldn’t have come to me at a better time! I wish I had these resources when I was playing live 12 years ago! Keep up the good work and you gained a sub for life!
I know exactly what you mean. I started music a long time ago and I didn't have resources to learn. It took so long with much frustration. I'm thankful to other creators on youtube who help me learn as well. Good luck with your music and stay in touch, Lucero! Keep MTMYL!
This guys singing is firee
Thank you so much!
Yes, I love it.. It's so chill
Love your vocals on Hungry Heart 🎤SanjayC! Beautiful! And, thanks for the “sister” mention 😍
Thank you :-D You gave some great feedback...very valuable for everyone else watching ;-)
So, you are the sister?
@@SanjayC I was searching for the song! T_T do you have your version of hungry heart uploaded somewhere?
What a cool little mic! Very nice
I’ll add something to the discussion: if you’re using a USB microphone, you’re not able to use the audio interface at the same time. That can actually really suck: I found that couldn’t use the built In headphone monitoring with the shock mount. They got in each other’s way. I also couldn’t output to my interface and input from the mic using drivers. It ended up causing serious driver issues, and even issues for my computer.
If you have and are using an interface, based on my personal experience, I would HIGHLY recommend a mic that uses an XLR connector. It seems like a USB mic is more versatile, but I find that’s actually not true.
That said, you can MTMYL with either! It’s about how you use it: if it’s your mic, it’s your mic, and you can still make what you want to
Lachlan...that's a really great point. I'm going to pin this comment so others can see. When you have an audio interface as well, you'll need to switch between the mic and audio interface all the time which can get annoying.
Agreed, started out with no knowledge and a USB mic but it gets quite annoying. Xlr is the way to go with music anyway!
If you are using a Mac, you should really look at rogueamoeba.com . There you can download the free software soundflower or buy Loopback. They are virtual audiodevices that you can route multiple interfaces to, so you do not need to switch back and forth. I am using both a Scarlett interface and a Expert Sleepers ES-8, and soundflower enables me to use both at the same time.
Out of interest, how did you use a shock mount with the rode microphone. Researching different microphones, I just saw that the mini isn't compatible with such mounts.
@@SanjayC Ah, this answers my question. Yeah, that's a dealbreaker I'm afraid.
I could hear that bigger bottom end on the FiFine while you were talking even before I saw the waveform.
The Rode has a really flat response! Really nice!
Love the way you sang that song! You made the cheap mic sound good.
Thanks so much!
I bought a Rode NT-USB Mini today. I think it is the best deal, without spending too much. I’m happy so far, with the results.
Nice!
You are so underrated man you must have 500.000🔥
Thank you, Tijn!
Came for the review, left with an unbelievable song on Spotify. Huge fan of 'Undone'. Amazing song !
I love the aesthetics of this video - the colour and clutter of the background, the narrow depth of field, the slider moves, this is good work! The comparison between mics was very well done too, exactly the best way to do it, so you must have put some thought into it. Even my damaged ears could hear the huge amount of extra bandwidth and information the Peluso provided.
I came here looking for a review on the Rode. I'm now convinced to save my money and get a better unit. Thanks :)
Thank you very much! Nice to see someone appreciate my work
My ear didnt found any differences
What kinda headphones are you using and how loud do you listen to your music?
It could be due to UA-cam compression quality
@@siddharthst2712 I found a difference
Honestly if you can understand what he's saying and you support him as an artist does it really matter. There's million dollar artists that have crappy music and sound.
Lil Naz X recorded Old Town Road in his sister's bathroom. I think if it's good enough you'll make it to a professional studio.
MAN I WISH I COULD HAVE AN ONLINE PRESENCE LIKE YOU ONE DAY. MUSIC IS MY LIFE.
Def agreed with your comments. $37 was very sharp strong high end. RODE was bit "airy" but I would say def worth it. ALTHOUGH I AM BORN IN AUSTRALIA - so a little bias . I HAVE A RODE NT1-A and SHURE Sm58.. I use LogicProX most
Haha! Australia ❤️️ Rode!
@@SanjayC lol... yeah gotta support locally produced items. :) - not to take anything away from RODE they def have world wide rep for quality.... .. HOPE YOU HAVE BEEN WELL. .. KEEPING BUSY ... (Much Peace always to you and your loved ones with thanks due to you and your efforts online)... and to all who read this.. :) - EXPRESSION THROUGH MUSIC IS A GIFT YOU SHOULD USE ..
Ah mate, the Shure SM58 takes me back to my gigging days. What a workhorse.
I was rooting for the Fifine because I'm broke! Should say the Paluso is an absolute treat to listen to. The Rode mic comes so so close to the Paluso according to me that the 900 dollar increase is really not worth it, while the Paluso may perform much better with an expensive studio pre-amp and interface/console setup
Yeah, the differences are minimal, right? Glad you liked the Rode - its a solid mic
@@SanjayC Yup! Solid mic indeed, and exceeds what I was expecting of a USB microphone
I really like how you link to your other videos while you record. It helps me find more of your content that is useful to me. In all honesty your channel has been a huge help in pointing me in the right direction thanks for your help
I have to say that this channel is quickly becoming one of my favs on UA-cam. Extreeemely well done, superbly edited, awesome approach and just all around friendly. Now, just a question - if you use this mic on say a Mac; do I need to create an aggregate device for the mic to record it in my DAW or does it just pop up as an option on the audio track? I have been recording for a long time but until I heard of this mic, I have been avoiding USB mics.
Big ups from Sweden. Stay safe and well.
Good question and thanks for the compliment! On a Mac, this mic will appear as an input in your DAW. You may want to create an aggregate for the output if you want to monitor the input signal while you record.
Super handy comparison, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
loving the music!! thanks for the review!!
To be fair to all UA-camrs who reviewed this microphone. You gave the best explanation with a solid sound test. And you're right, with the music it's difficult to tell the difference which microphone was being used.
This is really good mic for those who seek for portability and if you don't have an audio interface , this is best choice
Yes absolutely.
Some people are just born as a genius, must be fun to have so many things that you can share every day. Just listening the whole video without watching it even then i could understand what was going on. Not many can do that. Now i am 100% sure i really want this mic and i am getting it as soon as possible.
Best regards and keep up the good work.
@Sanjay C you’ve helped me find the right microphone for me, the price is perfect, the included features are awesome, and I can use my favorite mic boom arm! Yeah, thanks for all that you’re doing! Oh and I still want to make a painting for you guys!
Yes, where's my painting?! lol I'm glad I could help you, Jade!
I couldn’t really tell to be honest , but I do like the build of the $100 mic, mostly I was impressed with your singing
Hey Sanjay, I found you when searching for the ride microphone. Bloody hell your voice is awesome! Pure bliss! Keep it up and thank you for the review.
Got the mini this week it’s excellent, good video, thanks
Glad you like it! Thanks!
This sounds great, good quality for us bedroom producers struggling to get proper equipment. . 👍
Yes, I think its a good choice for bedroom producers.
Does this mic sound better than the at2020 usb? I’m really stuck between the 2
Honestly.. listening from my iPhone I couldn’t tell any significant quality difference, but that’s probably because u adjusted the levels accordingly. Love the video. Thanks for sharing! Very much appreciated.
I use the NT-USB Mini as a backup podcast mic, specifically when I travel and can't or won't take my Rodecaster Pro (with a Rode Podmic) on the road with me. Since Rode release the 'Connect' software made for this NT-USB Mini, I can do podcasts with my travel laptop. I like the examples you show for each mic. Frankly, not much difference once you EQ them. That is exactly why less expensive mics can and do perform pretty well. Thumbs up from me!
First, love your voice! Great review and I would buy the microphone for $100.
Thank you so much!
Took me this video as my 2nd review for this mic to decide whether I should buy it or not. Was not disappointed. Thanks Sanjay.
You're welcome
The fifine sounds a lot like the peluso in a mix honestly. The rode is so bass heavy and kind of bright at the same time.
What a GREAT quality video. If people made videos with such patience and instruction, it would be so much more beneficial. I'm tired of wasting 20 minutes watching a video with barely any better understanding.
Thanks so much
Honestly sounds really good for the price! I'm impressed.
Yeah, I think so too.
Sanjay, your production skills are awesome. I am working on getting my mixes and vocals like that. It goes to show it isn't ALL about the gear but the one operating it. Seems like better mics save a person time because they require less post production. But not having the mic (or any gear) you want should not stop you from making great music.
Thanks. You’re right. Honestly with some compression and a little reverb, you can do a lot. I’ve been guilt of over processing my vocals in the past. But less is more. Mics do make a difference. If you want a single vocal plugin that works really well look at Waves CLA Vocals. You can throw that on a vocal track and done!
Thanks for a very thorough test/review. I would definitely try one of those now
You're welcome! :-)
The Rode mic was surprisingly good! Great comparison
THank you!
Thank you for a very helpful review. You have a beautiful voice Sanjay... I must be slightly deaf, because I could not tell any difference between the three mics. 🤣
I've been looking for this vid, thanks God I found it. Thanks man
No problem!
Built In Pop Filter Is A Game Changer 🔥 I Need This Mic. I Have The Fifine.. Want A Upgrade
For me Rode NT USB Mini is totally worth it. I am from India and here it costs around ₹10K on Amazon which I think is a good price for this microphone.
I really like this microphone, this will be very good for podcast.
Yes, I agree. And its never harsh sounding. Do you have a podcast?
@@SanjayC no I do youtube covers
Nice review. Thanks Sanjay.
I might fall for this one !
Haha. It’s excellent
Hi Sanjay C, great comparisong ;-) thank you very much! I think the RODE is just right for me...
Good choice!
Badhiya... I think I am gonna get one
Good price, Rode is a top brand, and the build quality is five stars! Do you have a mic right now?
@@SanjayC yes... I have a couple of mics including 2 rode nt1A
Notification gang! But yes I love the aesthetic of the mic
Whats up Varun! Yes, for sure. I like that Rode really thought through everything with this mic. It does everything and looks beautiful! Great for home producers who put down occasional vocals.
Sanjay C I have the blue snowball. Seems like this mic beats it just by a bit! Would love to see a comparison video!!
Yeah, I need to do a comparison video of a bunch of mics. But I need a female vocalist to test with me.
I came for the mike reviews (great), but I stayed for the singing!!
Thank you Alejandro!
First time here. Subbed. you are a lovely man
Great review.! I was planning on getting the Rode NT USB Mini. Although I couldn't feel any difference between the three mics :P . But hey, if I could find any differences, then I probably wouldn't need to see all the reviews.
I came here for the review, but ended up loving your music too! :D
You helped me make a decision to get this mic!
Awesome! I hope you like it!
You’re the man! Rode mic it is. You now have a new subscriber. 👊🏽
Awesome, thank you!
It's not the mic, it's what you do with it 🔥🔥🔥
YES! haha...what mic are you using now?
@@SanjayC I'm using the Samson C01 and it works great for me. Eventually i will get another one, but I'm thinking AKG P120 :o
I'm stuck at my mum's place in quarantine right now, and it really sucks to not have my mic with me. This little thing would be sooo perfect for travelling, i really wanna get it. But how is it build? Do you think u can just throw it in a backpack and it'll be fine?
Oh that sucks. I hope you stay safe. The build quality is amazing. I can't believe its so good at this price. Yes, throwing it in a backpack would be fine.
FIFIne sound more compressed and with more emphasis on the upper midrange. I just wish the NT-USB Mini had an adjustable gain knob instead of the headphone output volume knob. That would of been an immediate purchase from my end.
Notification squad is growing
True...but I appreciate every single one of you. How are you, Denis?
Thanks for asking im fine but little lonely because of corona virus quarantine and you? Btw you are really awesome producer and youtube content creator , keep making the music you love .
wow the intro love it man loveeee it
Thanks so much!
that's perfect for portability and quick recordings on the go ✌
For sure. I really like to use it for putting down vocal ideas. Then when I'm ready, I'll move to the Peluso for final recording. What do you use?
like always !!! Thank You Sanjay :D
You're welcome! What did you think of the mic?
@@SanjayC waiting to add it to my little home studio . i will send my feedback to you as soon as possible.
rode is always a good chaoice for a microphone,as is choosing senheisser for headphones, these companies are specialised in that specific field, great song sanjay
Thank you, Ronny!
I bought the rode mini! Thanks for the informative and entertaining video!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Sanjay, I've visited your channel for the first time. Although I couldn't differentiate between the 3 mics that you used in this review but I'll take your word for it. I'm going to order Rode NT right away.
Thanks for the test. Is there a reason you recorded the Rode in stereo and the other two in mono?
Hats off for such great content
Thank you King Kaze!
The Rode sounded very good for the money especially for DIY music. I find having a good USB mic around is a great tool for musicians for recording ideas, lessons, when on conference calls anytime I need to make a quick recording of something. Be cool to hear a comparison between the Rode, AT2020, and one of the Blue USB mics.
Yeah, that's a great idea! I should do that comparison!
Hi Sanjay , Just for the vocal recording i must confess that I don't feel a great difference . Yes It's worth to spent 60 € for the Rode , but not so musch for the big one . You said the rode is agood for everything I 'm an "old student " and i have to write a paper about the microphone !!! Have tested the rode in a open space , in the nature ( before the confinement ! of course :) )
Thanks already for your kindness and générosity Take care Marc B
Hi Marc. Excellent point!. I think the law of diminishing returns applies to microphones and other audio gear as well. Once you reach the $600 mic price point...beyond that...its a minor bump in quality.
Great video! I ended getting the Rode NT-USB mini and so far, I love it! But I gotta ask, what are those headphones in the thumbnail of the video? The ones with the wood finish with the gold accent. Those are so damn clean! I need to know what they are so I can get me a pair. It would match my setup so much!
Wow thanks for that demo 😊 I could only hear slight difference between them and I couldn't decide which one was best so I think I will buy the cheapest one for my needs 😊 it's a bit the same when one of my hifi friends have me over for a listing to his new cable for his loudspeakers, last time he had 4 different sets in the range of 300$ to 10000$ and still I couldn't decide if one was better than the other.
You've made a really good video here. Thanks for this.
Glad you liked it!
A powerful little mic :). I was actually trying to find an affordable one for a job and to record vocals. Will try to save for one :).
This is a good mic for sure. Are you using another mic right now?
@@SanjayC just the one that came with a headset i'm using right now, not that good, but better than nothing. I'd rather have a smaller and separate mic. Just so I can be more comfortable while doing vocals.
If you are already saving for one, you should save for a few more days/ months (while you are writing your first hit) for a "Rode nt1 studio kit". It will be much more versatile and will give you far more versatility and room to grow. USB microphones seam amazing until you want to expand and then become a paperweight. You can even buy used gear to start with.
@@AnthonyMartinsRock great advise man 😁, i have been looking into second hand gear to start off with, but no mic, especially with covid. For now am just learning to be a better writer in lyrics and chord progressions.
@@acrtalks2316 yes! Save and practice your songs! Record your demo on what your already have. Even your phone! By the time you can pick up the mic, interface, you will be much better and record what you need.
Like your this content and your energy!
I appreciate that
Thanks so much for this video. I've been looking for a mic to do some narration, improve my video chat audio and maybe even start a podcast (nothing else to do in quarantine hahaha). Thanks again for this review.
Glad I could help!
EXCELLENT PRODUCT!!
The top for me is the:
1) Peluso (more clean and warm) because is the TOP
2) I was not expecting, but surprising cheap and good sound quality for an USB mic like Fifine k669b. Nice High frequency!
3) Rode for a regular sound, little bit noisy
Greetings for all Sanjay!
Which is better AKG Lyra or RODE Nt Usb mini studio?
I haven't tested the AKG Lyra myself
@@SanjayC Please do a comparison video. In Amazon India Rode mini is selling at ₹10,999($150) while AKG Lyra is selling at ₹9,799($134)
Great voice, review and production quality. Thanks for the review bro!
Stay safe!
Tuan
Thanks, you too!
Which one is best for voice over?
Hey Sanjay
I was thinking if you could do a livestream where you are making a beat or song from start. That way we can know some tips you use or some knowledge that could come in handy and learn more about how to make an idea we have into full beat or something like that. I think it will be very useful for music producers who are starting out.
Excellently made video..... Kudos!!!
Does Rode NT USB Mini require room treatment to reduce background noise?
Honestly, I'd like to have that song performed by you to listen to. I've heard it so many times before, but I never actually heard the lyrics as cleanly and nicely as you performed them. Well done. Oh, and yeah, with the instruments and backgrounds, I could barely tell the difference. The cheapest Fifine was obvious, but the Rode NT and the super expensive one sounded about the same to me.
One question - did you record all of those in a sound booth?
I love your voice!!!
Thank you blue.lisart!
This is a mini magic device sir and thanks for making a video about this sir.
Thank you ,buddy! How are you today?
I am good sir. How are you sir.
Thanks for the great review and wonderful singing. By the way, is this your secret way of emerging as an accidental singer? haha jk! great job! (Coming from a singer)
which you recomend to buy for a singer
this one or blue yeti?
Thanks for a great review, i have a question;
As you show we can attach the mic to another arm but can you add an raiser between mic and base? does base have screable mount?
Thanks for your answer in advance :)
It depends on which mic stand/arm you buy. I wish I had a better answer.
I was just looking at these mics and was wondering your thoughts on them! Yes!
Haha! Perfect timing!!
Which one are you going to get?
Came for the mic, stayed for the vibes.
hey man, you would have a video or a tutorial to improve the gain / quality of the fifine microphone and do you think it's a good microphone to begin rap
Nice feature! Look into this for sure 😀
Hi Echomatics! Yeah, definitely worth checking out!
Scheduled upload? Damn it's early. Either way I'm excited for the new video
I had to walk my dog, so launched this a little early! lol!
Thank you very much for the video, I am looking an affordable option to start my podcast but I do not have a well treated room, I am thinking using my closet to record with my Ipad, do you know if the fifine mic works with an iPad? or just the podmic mini, please let me know and thank you again. Also which one has better noise rejection, the fifine or the Rode podmic mini? thanks.
Love this review, thanks!
Thank YOU! :-D
That's a pretty cool mic. Also, since I'm a synth person, have you considered adding an FM synth to your setup if you use synths often? They would probably fill a gap in your collection and some are actually quite cheap. If you want the most control, go for something like a Digitone or Digitone Keys from Elektron. If you want to get into the Elektron ecosystem (which you might not want to unless you go dawless) the Model:Cycles gives Elektron's great sequencing for only $300. The Korg Volca FM is something I've heard good things about, and is cheaper than some mini MIDI controllers, but that 3 digit LCD screen and the sorta limited control can be a turnoff. For vintage vibes, you can pick up a DX7 for less than $1K.
I really want to try the Cycles. Looks simple for my needs :-) Do you think the DX7 is easy to program?
Sanjay C I've only heard horror stories about the DX7's ease of use. If you ever look at getting a DX7, be prepared to spend months or years getting a hang of the learning curve.
Just found your channel Sanjay and am loving it. Learning so much! I love how inspiring and positive you are.
I just watched a video where you reviewed the Rode NT USB mic, so my question is - how does the Rode NT Mini USB mic hold up to the Rode NT USB mic? Are they much the same? Thanks :)
Thanks! I think the big NT USB has better clarity in the highs, but otherwise they are similar to me. I really like them both.
How was this with picking up background noise?
I picked up a Blue Yeticaster for my SIM Racing streaming, but it was too sensitive.
Even with the gain set low, and the recording volume of the computer low, I would pick up my son watching TV in another room.
No, my room is not conditioned as a studio. Yes, I had it set as cardioid so it wasn’t supposed to pick up all the extra.
I need a mic that’s…not as sensitive.
You need a "dynamic" mic like the Shure SM58 or SM57. If you need a USB version, get the Shure MV7
NOTI squadddd... first viewer
Woohoo! NOTI squad in the house!
Considering buying this today. Does it connect to computer via USB 2.0-3?
is it compulsory to plug in earphones to rode nt usb mic or will i be able to listen to the audio out through mic? And also you have an amazinggg voice I just loved it!!!
Hi. Can you suggest me which one is better option for me. out of these 2 i have to chosse one. i.e rode nt mini vs senheiser profile usb.
I have to use it in a little untreated room to record or to deliver fitness podcast and some time for some demonstration too.
I have to purchase it one time. So need your perfect advice.
Thanks.
Hey, I want to buy my first condensator mic......but I am just at the beginning of my studies and I don't know I if is better buy now the FiFine or wait some time, save some extra money and buy the Rode? What u think about it?
I think save up and buy the Rode. It will last you a long time. Especially for music production, its better.
@@SanjayC thanks you ❤️❤️
