And the winner is, by a small margin......Nick. You taught him well Dave. And Nick did good on his first camera work too! I think Nick had you because it took you longer. Also if you weren't looking for something off the trail both would not be easily seen. Good job.
How did I miss this one?! Great fun video had me smiling all morning. Awesome job Nick making a segment on your own, definitely make more of these. That was fun!
Nick did a great job filming himself solo! I liked this kind of "challenge" video. Both of your shelters looked good to me, and it's good to see that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree
Great Job Nick! Can't wait to see more Face Off competitions with your Dad. Dave, great ideas and thanks for sharing the process behind the construction of both shelters.
Keep those vids coming brother 👊 been watching you for awhile and the videos just keep getting better and better !!! Nick is one lucky man to have a Dad like you Dave 😁😉👍
Man, it makes me so happy to see the way you two interact. My dad's never been around much - physically here, but never interested in participating in any activities we did - so seeing this just really warms my heart ♥️
Dave its the old Jarhead again, lol, I enjoyed this video a lot. It brought back many wonderful memories of my youth in St. Petersburg Florida and beyond. We had many overgrown areas of St. Pete in the 1970s and the local joke was, You want to camp, go across the street. Lol, Anyway we have those Brazilian Pepper Tree's that permeate our landscape with a lot of other tropical and subtropical fauna. We My buddies and I would find the thickest Brazilian Pepper tree clumps, Willows or Fern trees or Palmettos and camp in those, kind of what you and Nick were doing. I never seen any snakes, lots of those Banana Spiders but never snakes. Anyway we stayed an entire five days in the same location and no one never knew we were there, sadly the place is two separate lakes with I-275 running through the middle of it. Google Earth St. Pete Florida and go to the lakes between 13 ave n. and 9 th ave n. Behind the old Edward White Hospital. Those two lakes were once our prized tromping ground. I took that knowledge with me to the USMC when I served as an Infantryman. Dang I We all miss those days. There were other wooded areas in St. Pete but that location was our favorite. They are mostly gone now. Condos or Lakes, the Highway.
Awesome job guys you both made great shelters. To be able to truly stealth camp you should be one with nature case in point...Nick stepped on my fingers three times not sure if you heard me on camera the third time or not. Don’t worry buddy no damage was done I was able to get the thorns out of my hand. Thank you for sharing this it was a lot of fun.
Great challenge. It was fun watching both of you working you own shelter. It is probably easier when you know you are looking for a shelter to find the hidden shelter, but to someone walking past who is not expecting a shelter they would never see those shelters. Great job!
Every time i get a notification that you guys have posted a new video, i get a big smile on my face. Keep having fun in the woods and never stop please.
I'm 61 , old deer hunter , I look for things out of place , both places would be hard to spot . Nick on bushes with leaves , stand up , to fit in nature, the undersides of leaves ,are out of place . But 999 out of a 1000, wouldn't never notice . Good job
That's the first time I seen Nick building a shelter on his own. I'm impressed with how well he did in front of the camera. He's come a long way from that rubber ducky survival video back in the day where he hid in his sleeping bag to stay out of the shot. What a proud moment. I'm so happy for you guys. Starting a family tradition. Best fun in the woods I ever seen.
This is absolutely grand. Dad and Son playing hide and seek. The 2 of you are building a mental--and video--library of wonderful memories that will fill your hearts with warmth in the later years to come. May you BOTH keep it up for a long, long time. Love ya man. Keep breathin'.
We are glad you liked it and you are so right! Hopefully when we get old we will still have these videos to look back on. Way better than photos! Thanks for watching
Hey Dave....Hey Nick !!, Thanks for another relaxing, fun video. Interesting and inventive challenge you came up with there Dad. Looked like y'all had fun...us too. Hope you both are doing well, ...stay healthy guys, we'll see ya' in the next one. CHEERS !!
Fun video on a great topic! Best of all was Nick learning that filming himself, wasn't as easy as his dad makes it look. He did a GREAT job and he's a natural! I guess it's true what they say about the apple not falling far from the tree...? These video time-capsules expressing skillsets are priceless...!! Thanks for the smiles & enjoy your weeks end.
great job again you two! love that Nick out did his dad! thanks for taking the time to make these videos for us, and building memories that will last a lifetime for your son! you are an awesome dad!
Dave and Nick, Your videos hold true to the name, "Fun in the Woods". It's very cool that the two of you like to have fun and that you both enjoy time together. What great bonds and memories are being created! Treasures that will stay with you both for the rest of your lives!
I don't understand how anyone could dislike this video. They must have thought they were going to see an RV camping video. Great job Dave and Nick. Keep the videos coming.
Dave this is epic, I enjoy watching your videos as is but this is next level brother. I like the challenge aspect and has inspired me to do it with my kids when they get older. Thank you.
You can pat yourself on the back on the awesome job you have done with Nick. Awesome job and video my Friend. as always thanks for sharing and ATB to You and Your entire Family! Von
Hey Brother David & Nick,I really love it when you two are together in the woods, doing anything. In this day and time when so many families are torn apart,it is a beautiful thing to see,a father and son that close, and you can see the love you have for each other. Very good video, really enjoyed it.God Bless
Good shelters and camouflage, I doubt the casual observer would've seen either one. Personally I'd try to make the shelters a little closer to the ground though. Have to watch the use of fresh cut greenery because as it wilts it becomes more noticeable and when putting it on or around the shelter it's easy to "mess" up and have the leaves upside down and such. Again, I doubt most people would notice such things, but to people who spends a lot of time in the field these things stand out. Great to see y'all having a good time, that's what it's all about!
Thanks Chris, I'm glad you liked it. Yep, lower to the ground is always better. We wanted full size to make it tough. Lol. Several have pointed out about the upside down leaves and I honestly never even thought about that! Thanks for watching
@@Reallybigmonkey1 absolutely. I like your videos and enjoy getting out in the woods myself ( come tothink of it, I really need to do more of that ). Nothing wrong with constructive input, that's kind of why we're all here. No one can know or remember everything. Massive thumbs up from me guy's. Nick your a natural. Dave utmost respect and as one dad to another, the lad got ya taught him well. Nice one Nick. Low profile little disturbance to surroundings. Your filming was cool. Well done, Loved it 😊 ATB Dave from over the pond 👍
Nick you did an excellent job. Liked both stealth camp sites. Your filming will get better and better with practice. Ok then...sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite!! Ha!
Loved it! Great video, and I learned a thing or two about setting up a stealthy shelter. Your videos are always educational and entertaining. Great job on your first self video, Nick! Thanks, guys!
Wish my father was still around to do bushcraft with. Years ago, it seemed like punishment to hang out with him but now, I would give my right arm to hang out with him again. Best years of my life spent with my dad. Good to see you and your son partnering up.

Thanks Valerie, we are glad you liked it. We've been wanting to do a full video like that for awhile now but just haven't found time to. Thanks for watching!
Great video Dave! As many others have said, Nick did a super job not only on his shelter but filming his own work. Certainly hope to see more like this if you both together. I hope y’all have a wonderful weekend Dave! ~Bruce~
Thank you Bruce! We are happy you liked it. Hopefully we will do some more pic this stuff. Maybe winter time or even tree shelters? Thanks for watching brother
Reallybigmonkey1 Now that would be great! There’s something really cool about these same type of things done during the winter months. Look forward to that if it works out.
Great job guys! Unless someone was purposely looking real hard, they would not have seen them. I try not to set up in a spot that looks too "easy", as I feel it may be obvious to others as well. Of course farther from the trail would be a big help if it was possible in a given situation. I enjoy your channel ( and your accent!)
Money can't buy this kinda time together with your kid(s). Our sons or daughters won't remember reaching a certain level on a video game or a text they sent to a friend. They will remember doin outside stuff like what Dave and Nick are doin. Y'all are blessed Dave and we love watchin' you two .
This is a really great film guys. There is no way anyone would have seen either shelter. When walking on the trail your eyes are forward 99% of the time, Two different, unique shelters. Two minds working in the same direction with different perspectives and results. Perfect. I hope we will see more like this. Don't doubt yourself Nick. Your filming was great for an experienced person let alone for the 1st time. Hope to see you both in the next one!!
Thanks Jake, I'm glad you liked it. Yep, Im certain the average hiker wouldnt spot us unless they knew to look. We want to try this during the winter when everything is dead and brown. Thanks for watching
By strange coincidence, that's exactly how I'm living full time. Here in the UK, my local council (Nazi party)will move you on if they discover your camp, or remove it if not gone within the 3hours of service of notice to vacate. Only been here a month , and so far there's been no problems . Not too bad , considering I'm living on a round about, all be it a 5 acres one. It's drab green clothes by day, and strictly red light usage only at night, (flash lights I'm talking about, not the other kind!) you don't get the obvious tell tale that white light does. Good shout those sewing clips, I'm still using clothes pegs ATM, but they look way better. Always enjoy your videos, best channel hands down bar none. The tips I pick up from your videos are pure gold, many thanks. Best regards Neil. wrap it round & tie it off...
Sounds like you're getting the best hands on experience possible. I hope you keep doing well. I'm happy you like the videos and be safe and take care Neil
I said it a few years ago and I'll say it again.. Us Australians are cutting more and more syllables out of our words with every generation. You guys keep adding them in. Great video Nick, no idea who the old guy is.
Both of you did well. You knew to look for something. Someone just walking the trail would not have noticed either shelter. People simply accept what is before them and seldom scrutinize trying to see beyond the reasonable. Love the video with both of your talents on camera. Good job.
All I could think of was ticks and copperheads while watch. You all must had some ticks on you. It was a great idea I never thought of stealth camping, I don’t think anyone would have ever seen either one of the shelters. Very enjoyable video, thank you for posting.
Awesome video. Great to see you and Nick having such a great time. It's really wonderful to see how well Nick did on his stealth shelter and oh yeah Dave, yours wasn't so bad either. 😃
I really enjoy your outdoor videos. It makes me feel like I'm out there in the woods with you. Love your instructions, you make it so pain and simple. Being a 70+ year old woman I can't get out there like I used to, so it makes me happy to share in your adventures in the woods. Keep it up. 😘
Also, while I like the clips you have, I think you could paint or stain (camouflage) regular clothes pins and if you don't drop them and can't find them in the brush, you will have a good way to pin stuff together.
Hey Dave! Well done, both of you. Great idea for a video. That was great fun! I think if Nick had taken time to look at his shelter from different angles and used the bug net, he would've done much better.
Kudos to both of you, I had a great time watching. I'm not sure if you did this, but if I was to offer a suggestion, it would be to point the tarp entrance away from the trail head. Another idea is to elevate the tarp at the foot end which might serve two purposes - one to allow observation of the trail and also to allow light to shine through the shelter. As Nick said, "I was looking for a dark spot..."
Usually when someone thumbs down a video is because they are an expert in the subject matter with such a large brain that it makes them angry when they can't learn anything new. Lol. Thanks for watching brother Bryan!
This was awesome, Dave. It was great seeing you and Nick having fun together setting up your stealth shelters. As far as Nick is concerned, the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Excellent bushcraftmanship on both your part. I definitely plan on doing the same with my son Robbie. Another great video. Thanks for the inspiration, brother.
@@Reallybigmonkey1 love the videos. Love to have you and Nick up in my neck of the woods. Heber Springs, Arkansas. Excellent trout fishing. If you like that.
heyoo guys yall r good together....but nick ...create a channel you learned alot from your dad now show the world nick bush craft skills keep the vids comming yall
I feel compelled to bother you once again and offer that a quick dab or spray of some flat "camo" paint on your grommets and possibly other small shiny's would go farther than you would expect to Stealthify your equipment.
Always love watching father-son team; been fun watching Nick mature through teens & onto big horizons.

Thanks! We are happy you liked it. You're right, if someone want actually hunting for us? I doubt they would have ever found us! Thanks for watching
What accent
Money can't buy this kinda time together with your kid(s). Our sons or daughters won't remember reaching a certain level on a video game or a text they sent to a friend. They will remember doin outside stuff like what Dave and Nick are doin. Y'all are blessed Dave and we love watchin' you two .
Very well said John! Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching
Fun video!!!! Thanks Dave, Thanks Nick!!!!
I'm happy you liked it GB!
Love this Father Son video challenge Hope to see more in the future
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. We want to do one this winter when all the vegetation is dead. Thanks for watching
Thanks Dave... Another fantastic video!
I'm glad you liked it and thanks for watching!
Lol! Thanks
Respect To You Both
Brilliant Work
Bless
Thank you my friend!
Both of you did well. You knew to look for something. Someone just walking the trail would not have noticed either shelter. People simply accept what is before them and seldom scrutinize trying to see beyond the reasonable. Love the video with both of your talents on camera. Good job.
Thanks Eddie! We are glad you liked it Brother
Very cool guys! Looks like alot of fun lol! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Mike! Man we had a great time out there!
All I could think of was ticks and copperheads while watch.
You all must had some ticks on you.
It was a great idea I never thought of stealth camping,
I don’t think anyone would have ever seen either one of the shelters.
Very enjoyable video, thank you for posting.
Nope,no ticks on this area. Copperheads use, but I pay attention for them every step. I'm glad you liked it and thanks for watching Ken
That looked fun, great job to both of y’all.
We had a great time!
Awesome video. Great to see you and Nick having such a great time. It's really wonderful to see how well Nick did on his stealth shelter and oh yeah Dave, yours wasn't so bad either. 😃
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. We had a great time on this one! Thanks for watching
LOL, that was fun.Funny how we all perceive things different. A a good time was had.😀🏕
Oh yes, most fun we have had in awhile! Thanks for watching brother
Thanks, I'm glad you like the videos Judy. Great to hear I can bring a little of the outdoors to you. Thanks for watching
I showed some green clothespins a few years ago in a video. They hide well but arent as strong as the sewing clips.
Hey Dave! Well done, both of you. Great idea for a video. That was great fun! I think if Nick had taken time to look at his shelter from different angles and used the bug net, he would've done much better.
Thanks Jim, I'm glad you liked it. If Nick did to the whole shelter what he did to the front? I would have never found it! Thanks for watching brother
Good thoughts Jeff! Muy entrance was away from the trail. Nicks was facing the trail but had each end open
@@Reallybigmonkey1 I must have been napping while watching lol
stealth camping with the loudest tarp ever, lol
If this was the real deal I would have brought my BASHA tarp
Great Video, I enjoyed watching you guys set your shelter up.
Thanks Roy! We are happy you liked it
Nick makes a lot of the same noises that his Dad makes...
Lol
Another cool fun video Dave . You both have a good weekend .
Thanks Tony and we hope you have a good weekend too!
Someone is miserable and gave this great video a thumbs down. Hope they are of the perfect type 🙄
Way to go guys , good fun in the woods 👍
Usually when someone thumbs down a video is because they are an expert in the subject matter with such a large brain that it makes them angry when they can't learn anything new. Lol. Thanks for watching brother Bryan!
@@Reallybigmonkey1 LOL right on bro 👍
This was awesome, Dave. It was great seeing you and Nick having fun together setting up your stealth shelters. As far as Nick is concerned, the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Excellent bushcraftmanship on both your part. I definitely plan on doing the same with my son Robbie. Another great video. Thanks for the inspiration, brother.
Thanks Ric! We are happy you liked it. Oh yeah, it's fun and you and Robbie with love it! Enjoy and thanks for watching brother
Hey Dave, got my mora and my SP-53. Love em.
Great to hear that! That combo will never let you down
@@Reallybigmonkey1 love the videos. Love to have you and Nick up in my neck of the woods. Heber Springs, Arkansas. Excellent trout fishing. If you like that.
The 30' challenge! Love the idea of this. What a fun adventure. Glad to see both of you out and enjoying it.
Thanks Rick, We are glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
@@Reallybigmonkey1 you should tag some friends in this "30' challenge". It would be fun for just about anyone I would think.
VERY C00L, Dave and Nick. I liked this video of Ya'll Play'n round⛺🏕⛺🏞 in the Wood's. WHO WON the $10.00's...huh?
Thanks! We are happy you liked it. Lol, we called it a tie
Love this video!! It took me back to my childhood, playing in the woods with my friends!! Awesome 👍👍👍😊😊😊!!
Thank you Deb! We are happy you liked it.
heyoo guys yall r good together....but nick ...create a channel you learned alot from your dad now show the world nick bush craft skills
keep the vids comming yall
Heyoo and we are glad you liked it! Nick has learned a lot over the years. Thanks for watching
Fantastic Video! Enjoyed watching you both have fun and a little competition!
Thanks! We are happy you liked it
I feel compelled to bother you once again and offer that a quick dab or spray of some flat "camo" paint on your grommets and possibly other small shiny's would go farther than you would expect to Stealthify your equipment.
Good idea!
Agreed. I was also wondering if putting the bug net over the tarp might help reduce the shininess of the tarp itself.
I was thinking the same thing. They stand out like a sore thumb!
its so great when father and son have things they love to do together. l am very lucky that way, the older you get the more it means.
Absolutely, and we always have a good time together. Thanks for watching Curt
