clicked the liked button so much lol
Hahaha best comment 😊💞
She is the only one allowed passage from both realms. slap/hug and vice versa.
GarageStudio 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🦋🙌🏾
Lmao hahahahahha
This woman hit the highest of the high notes, and the lowest of the low notes. A true vocal phenomenon. There were no boundaries for her. The world won't see another musical ARTIST with this much talent again for a loooong time.
+Kev lol she ain't dead. I mean these days she has some limitations in her belting but technically what you said still applies today.
+Al'ykc Pryor RIGHT 👏👏👏
She still can hit the lowest and highest notes...
Al'ykc Pryor Agreed!
Didn't mean for my original comment to come off as a eulogy lmao. This woman is still selling out venues left & right as we speak. She's still very much in the game. We see you Mimi ✊🏽
You know if theres atleast one person that appreciates those incredible runs the most, its Stevie
Lord Jesus Christ almighty, if I had this woman's voice I would never shut up.

Charmbracelet era was so underrated. Her vocals were so perfect during this time.
I know right. She looked so beautiful also.
Kingpablo I was only 8 years old during this time, And I remember family members praising her during this era saying "Mariah, doesn't need to do another album, she can retire if she wants too, These new singers is trying to be like her"
So true. Even now these new Thirsty ass 'singers' are trying to be like her. I'm not surprised she's a Legendary Goddess. It's how they try to be her and then pay her dust. The music industry is so shady towards Mariah. She doesn't receive no where near the amount of respect and praise she deserves.
I was 6.
Wish I could like this comment a thousand times. That album is sooo underrated. My fave of hers to be honest.

No one can done this Mariah Is the only one
To all of the people saying that this performance consisted of too many runs, riffs and ad-libs: You do realize that she was singing the song EXACTLY as Stevie sang it, right? Stevie is actually the originator of the runs and melisma that's common in R&B music.
Another thing, this performance was, from a technical standpoint, almost flawless. A perfectly executed lower register, perfect intonation and a clear, fluid and musically creative use of the whistle register. This performance was also 100% completely live. So haters can go elsewhere. 'Tis all.
He's not the orignater lol
CoCoMoroney Who the hell is then, since you think you know so much? He was one of the founders. So what's the problem? The condescending "lol"'s are not necessary.
The90sAreTheBest Wow someone is getting angry lol. Take a chill pill, it will be better for your heart.
No single person invented melismatic phrasing, it's existed in one form or another for centuries.
CoCoMoroney Quit stalking me and commenting on every single video I have visited.
The90sAreTheBest I commented on two videos, that's hardly stalking lol. BTW you gave me a non-answer on both LMAO
Mariah should make an album of covers.
Yes. 80's-inspired pop and R&B was basically the Glitter soundtrack concept...but it would be nice to hear her sing an album of actual 80's hits...and 70's soul.
@@jdfodio yes and Mariah was ahead of that trend and that was the time tommy sabotaged her.
Amen to that!
And gospels 🥲
She's covered enough for an album
To everyone who complained about the excessive number of runs, riffs, and ad-libs in this performance: you do realize she was singing the song EXACTLY as Stevie sang it, right? This song's stunning rendition and Mariah Carey's vocals is a wonderful homage to Stevie Wonder.
She did for a lot of it, but the problem is when she tried to stray from what Stevie did she got lost in the harmony. Stevie's chord changes can be hard. Whenever she hit those minor ii-v's she lost the landing. The first time it landed on major, the second on a half diminished. This was quite restrained for MC, and loved that she stayed low, but some people can hear that there are certain places where she's running and it doesn't fit quite right. It's not that she running too much, it's that she sometimes ran to the wrong places- not at all often, but it happened, and it could happen to any musician. Stevie's harmony can kick anybody's butt. She did great, though!
Mariah sang deep low notes, she sang high chest notes, and she sang falsetto and whistle notes and she included flawless runs and riffs! This performance is truly a masterpiece! Not a lot of artists sing with this type of technicality! Mariah is truly the "Songbird Supreme" and there will never be another like Queen Mariah!
Thank you.I feel the same. www.reverbnation.com/granvillemichaels

Amazing performance. Her lower register is one of a kind.
one of the best tbh
Indeed
Truela dahling 🥰😍❣
WOW. Her range is unreal! THAT LOW NOTE!!!!! It's incredible how Mariah can go THAT low and THAT high!!!!! Also the fact that she transitioned directly from singing completely in her lower register to that whistle note is extremely difficult!!!!!
Those low notes are like butter melting on toast, just delectable.
Lol yes!
Simply amazing. There will never be another Mariah Carey.

She chose to sing a great song and Made it her own.
I love the look on Babyface's face😊
I don't think so. The undubbed is not that good.
@@Pkjopjpo-zm7dy we don't have the undubbed in good quality tho. Only then we can compare because the undubbed is really distorted and the background vocals are overshadowing her there.
Only the real noticeable difference in the undubbed that we can compare are the end belted which sound different
@@NotMichaelJuqson yep
I think a very few women will dare to sing this song in this key, most women can hit those high notes but not this low ones, mariah carey has it all, musicality, melisma, resonance, technicality, high notes, low notes, head, chest whistle notes, shes just a total package. Over all, a perfect example of a true vocalist
tupe pangan multipass lol
Completely agree with you on all points above. ;-)
Totally agree!
Aretha Franklin had a killer low range.
Ivete sangalo maybe can do it, Ana Carolina too
She served up everything in this performance. The baritone perfection. The uncanny use of melisma, a la Stevie Wonder. The beautifully textured whistle. The powerful belts. The soulful notes and musically orgasmic key shift. Oh God!!!! I can't with you Mariah!!!!
Christopher Davis Stevie's a tenor and she sang within his range. He's the highest type of tenor: leggero tenor. :)
Christopher Davis AMEN!!!
how come she hit those low notes but still resonance. she's gifted. heaven sent
there are ppl who can hit high notes but not low notes as well, she is very unique with her large vocal range!
its too airy, how can it be resonance lol
People who can't appreciate how magical and extraordinary this rendition was is deaf. I like hearing her singing this low. It's just so soulful.

+CyprusHot So true !
I think the reason was because people cant believe that a relatively younger artist can break so many records of those older artists. Imagine , she surpassed records of some legends who hold them for a very long time. She is just so fine and lucky talented girl.

Honestly... this performance is literally perfect. There is not missed key or note, the breath control is perfect, the lower register and shifting between lower and mid and then upper with perfect ease and flexibility is what makes Mariah the Songbird Supreme. This is performance is literally perfect
There is no upper-belting in this performance, we have better things here, a insane low register, great G6, a really good breath control and endless runs and transitions
Just goes to show that you can give a stunning performance without belting out endless F5s!!
High notes are overrated, and are actually easier ( than low ones ) to control
Instead, we got flawless F2s! 😂
We have like a lot of D3s my gosh
to be honest, the mixture of both is the most impressive. When she said: you and... G6!!!!!!!!! G6!!!!!!!!!! G6!!!!!!!!!! ..... It was so mind blowing lol!
Why have an F5 when we can have a G6! 😂😂
She is known for her high notes but her low notes are incredible too. Not many people can sing such low notes with that kind of resonance. Look at those talent shows where people sing Mariah songs and miss not just the high notes but the low notes as well.
it is out of this world...
her low notes is ridiculously brilliant. ugh. Stevie must be proud of her
it was a boring performance tho’ but MC is such a great singer

Mariah Carey is truly the best singer who has ever lived. She can go into the lowest notes down to the 2nd octave then do whistle notes then a really tender and airy falsetto and those melismas, all done with ease, simply AMAZING. I love you Queen Mariah. :)

WHAT THE HELL THAT LOW NOTES KILLED ME
*those
Even though her low notes were airy they were still very impressive, she went down to a F#2 and my lowest note is a G#2. Her larynx stayed neutral throughout this whole thing except for that F#2 and she had perfect control over every register she used. The best vocalist of all time, hands down
Of course it's airy, those note in the 2 octave are LOW, but she went for them and stayed there !!
Her lowest note there was actually an A2
the airy notes are what makes her unique and distinctive . amazing
They are not airy! Wrogn discription! They are husky and smokey in timbre and color and still resononant and full
100% live.. She's one of the greatest vocalists of all time

Shut up you Whitney Stan, she is #1. Shitney was a drugist and never had any musicality or writing skills.
The prove she does NOT need to hit all those high notes to make a heart melt. I wish she knew it man. She needs to make an album with music like this. I BET it would be a stone winner.
gaviote ha yes!
She’s said it before, record label don’t like the low register. Says it doesn’t sell so the record label doesn’t support it.
Starting 4:48 she's doin some subtle but precise scaling. She knew that stevie has a very good ear and that whats she is trying to show with this runs, musicality and always on the perfect running through those scales and notes. Just genius
This is a masterpiece in singing! No woman should ever attempt to cover this song because they could never do what Mariah Did. She is undeniably in the Top 5 talents of all time! And I don’t think there is a man that can stand up to the cover!.

What can you expect from one of the greatest vocalists of all time? Her lower register is so soothing and deep. It's crazy!!!
Someday, hopefully Mariah will do a jazz album.
Yes! I'm hoping the same thing.
Totally. I've been hoping that for years.
For real. She did Lullaby of Birdland during 2014, and that would be amazing. I'd like it better for her voice now, cuz there wouldn't be endless belting and whistle. It would just be her voice and her musical instincts, which both are still amazing.
Paul wells I was thinking about that to
Paul wells prayers for that
I love how airy her voice is here, even without the falsetto there is just so much air and harmonics (?) in her voice.
For those who are criticizing her rendition of the song I have thoughts to share:
She's a vocalist, she uses her voice as an instrument so it's very well expected of her to do acrobatics and use it as so.
It's very reductive of people to expect her to sound flat and not do melismas, runs and etc when the original version, sung by Stevie himself, has as many inflections as hers. Thus, you're just applying your preconception of how a singer should sound into the "analysis".
If I can't convince you, I'll leave it at Stevie's face and enjoyment on it to do so.
Get better, don't get bitter!
Ryan Cociello YASSSS
But they're failing to realize that she's singing the song exactly how Stevie sang it. She hit the runs in his original version.
@Halcyonacoustic exactly!!
That transition from 'belt' to melisma at the end and it's timing with the percussion - Musicality 2.0!
This is a masterclass of singing with feeling .
I've probably listened to this more than a hundred times and I never stop being amazed at how TIGHTLY this entire band followed her throughout the entire song. The timing on the final breakdown at the end of the performance, starting at 4:46... Only the best bands in the world can hit that tight a change right with the lead singer with no visual cue. This whole performance should be part of a master class in live performance, from her incomparable vocals to the whole band behind her.
Shes so prettyXXX

I've watched a lot of Mariah's live performances and I only want to say that for most of the audiences, both in the studio and at home, Mariah's performances are too great and soulful for them to understand. They do not know what is the REAL MUSIC, so they cannot have any emotional connection with her. Such a shame! This performance's quality aside: I'm always amazed of Mariah's respect towards her seniors. Everytime she had to tribute them with her singing, she always tried to perform it as similar to the original as possible. Such Queen.
Mariah slays at high and low
And middle and above middle and below middle and EVERYWHERE!!!:D
Mariah tests the idea of classifying singers by soprano, mezzo, or alto because she just encompassed the vocal range of all three in one song.

the most tecnically perfect song from Mariah's troat. Great!
Absolutely not lol. She was so extra here. Its very hard for sopranos to hit this low notes and these runs were very extreme cause they could crack easily since they are very heady.
@@elusive7244 She says in interviews that low notes and whistle notes are very easy to do because her speaking voice is naturally low and her vocal nodules. Vocal nodules only affect her high belts, not whistle or low notes.

I just like how the singer can used every register and those all perfect pitch!
This is one of my absolute favorite performances from Mariah! She took this classic "in tribute" and completely made it her own! Her lower register is so WARM and pleasant! SING Mariah! Then she sang an octave above her low notes to give it just enough power to end the song beautifully! Well done Mariah! I love you for THIS!

The number one selling female artist of all time. Enough said
she has the best low notes of all , she can sound much better than the most part of the male and famele singers, C3, Bb2, B2 that notes are so easy in her voice when the most part of the girls can't to hit E3 or make a simple C3 to sound so hard. she's perfect in everythen that she do.

+Rri-κε ο Αιθέριος sorry man but she control her low notes better then all the singers, her low notes are strong and had beauty. the most part of the singers don't had Bb2 so big like her or don't sounds so good like her, iven tony braxton.
+Apollo Reysol. She does not have the best control of her lower register. Its one of her weaknesses. Her low notes aren't the worst (They're full), but DEFINITELY not the best...
