Her voice was probably in its most professionally exuberant period during the recording of the Glitter soundtrack. There was no high nor low she couldn't hit authentically. Her mid-range was exceptional (although not as "bright" as during music Box/beginning of Daydream), and her whistle register was probably in the best condition it had ever been. Ever.
+tangled55 Her first album will never be the second if someone HAS to rank them according to vocal performance. Whistle register was so good in the first album as well, she just has changed them to a darker voice color approach later in her career to smooth out the sound even more, which does not mean it is in best condition.
Her best album vocally has to be Butterfly and TEOM. Daydream and Rainbow were too simple for her standards, some of the upper belts in the first three albums were strained (and lows were almost non existent) and the other albums were pitched pretty badly (CB sounds chipmunks and everything post E=MC2 is too robotic)
She looked really pretty here. I love this song. The vocal illusion on that last big *love* note she hit and held was dope. It's a shame that people missed out on this soundtrack.

The Movie 'Glitter' came out on Sept 11, 2001. I went to see it the next day, with my best friend in VA, who passed away a couple of years ago. We wanted to feel 'normal' and I had this determination then that I wasn't going to be scared from doing things. Only 1 person was working the entire Theatre that day. The Movie was not good, at all. But it wasn't the worst either. It only bombed at the Box Office because in that entire Theatre was only 2 people watching a movie. Debbie and I. The worker said it had been dead all day and they were considering closing early. Everyone else was scared. They were home, watching the TV to learn more about the Terror Attacks, listening to the Radio for the latest updates and watching the sky for planes. Now 'Glitter' is associated with negativity towards Mariah Carey, but that was undeserved then due to the situation it was released during, and it's one of those moments in life where you just had to be aware, avoiding jumping on a bandwagon of hate and able to see the difference. Life lesson.

I honestly think she can make a come back. She's going through a lot, so music probably ain't where her head or focus is right now. I honestly think she can make a come back. She's going through a lot, so music probably ain't where her head or focus is right now.
