What I like about Ceph/Traveller... is you can have both seasoned aged veteran characters and low skilled young characters playing together. This is much different from D&D leveling style games where mixing a 1st level with a bunch of 10th level characters is a bad idea.
Ceph is quite lethal, so more care is taken with players avoiding combat (with fear of death from a single bullet/blast is possible).
Traveller was also a miniatures skirmish game using Snapshot, Mayday, or Striker rules. It's sad how low-key this system is on the radar... It's one of my FAV systems.
Edit: your last comment on scifi likes... the Traveller game IS space trucking at it's core, the Zozer book SOLO would suit you, GET IT!

That mix of experience and youth is something I wish I could do in more D&Dish games. I'm looking into the sword of cepheus product from the same people who did this, and might well play some of it to see how that blend carries over. It looks like a really nice mix so far. And I absolutely do need to get the SOLO book you just mentioned, I'll look into it soon as time allows, it looks neat.

Your review is most excellent. Cepheus Light is the closest modern thing to Classic Traveller using the OGL license. You hit the nail on the head here in this review.

A very thorough and informational review as always! This is a great game indeed, streamlining the source material without erasing its depth. The colorful examples in particular are fun to read and gives a good demonstration of the system's mechanics and flavor.
    Thanks for the video! 👍

Cepheus Light Upgraded would be much closer to Classic Traveller, except that they have done away with the concepts of Survival and Re-Enlistment, which (aside from aging) were the factors that prevented players from doing a ridiculous number of terms without consequence.
The version you reviewed has those factors, but a lot of superfluous classes and way crunchier than the new version. Seems like I still can't find the One version of this kind of system that would be ideal for me. I'd rather not have to house rule anything.

Try cepheus quantum by the same publisher , rules stripped down to the bare bones my favourite as I like to hack/house rule though I think everyone does but then I prefer rules lite systems.

I'll definitely have to take a look at it. I don't think it's in the bunch that was sent to me, but it shouldn't be hard to peek at, maybe when I cover some of the smaller systems from the same group. Thanks for the recommendation!

@@rpgcrawler it's free on drivethuRPG so nothing lost if not to your taste, the system was expanded into their "barbaric" and "cepheus atom" games.

Awesome review... but it kinda felt like the word 'follow(s)' was a tad overused.

Yeah, I could've done a better job on that. It's what I get for trying to edit while half asleep. Should be getting a copy of the deluxe edition in some time to take a look at eventually too.

@@rpgcrawler I just purchased Cepheus Deluxe based upon your on-camera reactions to "light". I am pretty stoked to run it as a solo Firefly style game.
