- The Amstrad PC series tends to fly under the radar compared to its predecessor the CPC range and its contemporaries like the Tandy 1000. But it has a story of its own that is worth telling.

We had the 640k dual 5.25 cga version. I was a preteen and enjoyed taking it apart to explore and compare its hardware vs more mainstream pcs here in the US at the time ('88/'89).
Having an actual volume knob was handy and I remember the joystick port being integrated in the back of the keyboard. Not having a HDD was tricky for contemporary multidisk games at the time that required hard drives, but having 640k ram and a big DOS handbook, I learned to create virtual drives and preload the game in order to play. A quirky but cool machine!
My first PC, purchased used in 1988, it was the MM1512DD, I upgrade the ram, cpu, and add a 10 MB HD. Along with my dot matrix printer. Good days
A few games supported the Amstrad joystick port. The DOS port of Driller for one.
Still got mine in the garage 1640DD + 3.75fd with a massive 30g western digital hd card. I start it now and again just to reminisce 😁
Great video Mr Lurch thanks for sharing 😎
Probably 30M :)
Interesting video. We had the monochrome display, because my parents at the time wanted to use it as a business machine and thought the monochrome would look more professional. It was our first PC (but not the first PC I had used as I used to repair them at the time.) It is great to see the colour version of this computer.
I found your channel by #septandy hashtag and I am really impressed with the quality of the content! Thank you very much for such a great videos!
Really nice overview thank you Mr Lurch
Well done, thank you for sharing this with us.
Great video!
Thank you!
Loved my CPC 464!
Ah yes.
I used to have a 1512. Had 2 360kb floppies and a 20Mb hard card. I think the hard drive was. RLL.
I thought it was bizarre to see it using AA batteries for the CMOS.
I had mine dual booting DOS and Minix. Surprised Minix even booted.
The 1512 was my family's first computer in like 94 or something hahaha!
thanks!!!!
Nice video,I see you use DOS 3.31, did you succeed to have a 500Mb partition ?

good stuff fella!
PC-CD = CGA Monitor? SQ3 was shown als EGA Version.
Both CGA and EGA are DigitalTTL signals. Although yes, a CGA monitor it does seem to be able to do low-res EGA as well.
@@MrLurchsThings You are right I forgot that. So 1640 with PC-CD = Lowres ega @16 colors possible, thx!
It was SuperCGA actually, so 16 colors in conformant applications.

Amiga was pretty much unusable for any serious work. Its only display option were 3rd party RGB monitors, giving out a flickering CGA-like display that couldn't display single-pixel lines. EGA monitors were so much better.
