I've been wanting to buy a PS2 for years now, but somehow it always eludes me. I found quite a few cheap PS2s last month, used of course, but working. I think as an adult who earns his own paycheck, I'm gonna go out one of these days and buy me a PS2 which I never had as a kid. All about healing that inner child.
Ps2 og fun to look at will look good with a picture of yourself with it, nice start up animation, best library of games and for me personally loading times not nearly as long as the ps3 and 4. I don’t regret missing out on many game with ps1 and 2 because I was always living in low income but now I can say that I am very grateful for reliving the ps2 era again.
Glad you're doing okay, just got tired of UA-cam. Either way I'm thankful you've left us a wonderful library of tinkering, especially the videos about the Microbee (MicroBee?).
The PS logo on the Drive door can rotate for Horizontal or vertical. The Network adapter does work, you can FTP stuff over to it. But that's it. I imaged the HDD with free mcboot and skipped the memory card
It works on original network adapters, but not on any of the clones. If you get an original you have to faff about with either a PATA to SATA converter or replacing the PATA daughterboard with a SATA one. Or should you actually want to install a PATA drive you probably have to modify the adapter physically since only certain brands of HDD actually fitted the connector spacing. That’s why most people just buy a clone adapter but then miss out on the network connectivity.
Look at you showing off the fact that your state has a CEX :P Nice bargain of a PS2, and great mods mate. I keep kidding myself that I'll be happy getting a slim, but it's the fat version I had back in the day, as I had it on pre-order and had it in my house 1 day before the shops even had them. So really I should get the fat. I highly recommend Time Splitters :) Great video Lurch :)
Hello, I recently discovered your channel, you are providing very interesting content to the point that I want a ZX Spectrum. The lecture on the history of computing that you gave at the university was very interesting. There are a lot of cool systems that never made it to the US, like the acorn electron. If you were my neighbor, my goodness, I would bother you every day just to let me play with all your systems :) Good job, and enjoy your PlayStation2.
You can get HDMI converters for them that plug straight into the back. We recently got one because my son's new TV only does HDMI 😢 AUD$8 shipped, and it looks pretty good. Can't complain. I did the FreeMcBoot and HDD thing years ago - best way to play (except for lemmings as the music is stored on audio CD tracks which don't get ripped).
The ps2 was the console I used the most. I was in my early 30s with a good job and console gaming girlfriend at the time. We spent hours in the evenings playing Splashdown, the SSX series, and of course GTA series. Good times!
At the end of the day, whether it's a playstation of whatever generation, xbox of any gen, pc gaming of any era or any of the retro machines out there, gaming is gaming and many hours of fun can be found from it. Awesome video and yeah, GT4 is by far the best of the series hands down in my honest opinion.
GT5 was amazing, great fun for online play with friends, especially custom tracks, so much variation, and the car trading/gifting. But then they took the servers down and basically ruined the entire game. When GT6 introduced credits for real money I gave up on the GT series completely.
@@wich1 I also thought that GT6 had been dumbed down a bit as well. With GT4, the focus was on the cars, tracks and racing and that's what I loved so much. I still play it through an emulator on my pc using my original disc.
Around the time of the PS/2 I was starting my career and this whole genre of consoles passed me by as well. When I did have a look later I didn't really see any games I was interested to play. Now so many years later, it certainly is worth revisiting to see what I could do with some of those older systems. Obviously, you want to load disc images, not CDs/DVDs because those drives were just painfully slow IMHO, but with a nice SSD hard drive you could certainly enjoy those systems and they still had decent video and audio.
As you found out you can do some pretty cool things to the PlayStation 2. I also have my PS2 fat modded with a SSD. It's great to just turn it on and be ready to go.
You can install freemcboot onto that GT4 formatted memory card again, just get the installer on a USB stick and launch it from the file manager thing. Once you have one freemcboot memory card you can make as many as you want. Always wise to have a working freemcboot card in storage as backup for those cases when a card gets corrupted. Oh, and you can also use freehdboot, then you don’t even need a special memory card.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who generally missed out on console gaming. As a kid in the '70s, my parents bought the Atari VCS. We only had a few cartridges, but Space Invaders was THE game everyone talked about.😁 After that I got in to computers, no consoles until the Xbox 360 came out. It's the only console I've owned. Now I feel the urge start collecting a few.
@another3996 wow 😮Atari VCS straight to xbox 360 is a massive jump. That's a lot of great console exclusives you've missed out on from the 80s , 90s & 00s. Definitely get into them 😊
Yes, the menu is over to one side. The glowing ball is meant to be several spinning in a circle, them being clumped together like that means the clock battery is dead. After changing it there's some button combo you need to do on the menu iirc. Then you can set the time under System Configuration.
@@MrLurchsThings possibly. I'm not sure if there are any games which need the clock battery working. Maybe some which store saves in date order so it could get confusing if you have multiple saves.
