Greetings and welcome to the bottom of the description. I'm Alax, more legally known as Alex Carducci. I make design analysis videos on fictional stuff I really like. Most of this time this centralizes on video games I love like Super Smash Bros., Super Mario, Persona, or Sonic the Hedgehog. I studied design and communications, so I find it fascinating how technology and culture shapes the media in our lives and how we perceive it. Story of Alax’s life: “I don’t like this franchise, I don’t like this genre, but I somehow like this specific game.”
Most of the time 'don't like' doesn't equate to 'I know what this is and hate this' and more 'on a shallow level it doesn't appeal to me.' Over the last few years I've broadened my horizons and I'm thankful for it. I hope others try to do the same to see some franchises are more then they think.
That's honestly me with DQ11. I'd actually might try the FF7 Remake if I had a PS4. I would also try the other DQ games if I had time.

One better. Imagine if you had to find Mario on a map with other Mario characters, select Mario, move him to cover, and have him shoot the enemy with the right weapon and for some dumb reason you fought with and against Rabbids from Ubisoft's games.

@@mclainboyd5514 I turned my Sylvain into a Dark Knight and gave him the Stride gambit, so he became a support/crowd control lance-mage with balanced stats for all purposes.
He's also pretty much the most unpretentious noble character in the game. He literally despises the fact the he's a noble (with a crest).

You can tell Alax hasn't heard god shattering star yet. That'll get him on the stairs.
Perhaps it will even get him to the stars. Possibly of the god-shattering variety.
Plus, once he gets a taste of blue bois final map then and battle, that will send him up the escalator.

its so true tho. I loved it as as kid, but that's where Pokemon should stay. Especially the latest one. Used to put 500 hours into Pokemon games. Sword/Shield I left after 30 hrs and without catching the box legendary. There are so many better RPG's out there.

Cuz Three Houses takes the calendar system inspired by Persona 3/4/5, doing tasks to prepare for the impending doom, max your bonds with other people, and even marry your best boy/girl, with the game literally telling you to take your time doing so.

I still like Pokemon. I don't love it like I once did back when their were only 3 generations. I found Fire Emblem to be a much more interesting and fun experience because the gameplay in Pokemon have become pretty boring compared to strategically planning at a battlefield with limited resources and custom built characters with their own set of skills knowing that 1 false move can get them killed.
I mean even Pokémon fans hate pokemon

To draw the comparison with FE, Pokémon is lowkey in a Fates period since XY, except its fanbase was and still nowhere as unified on the current concept because not only is it gigantic but unlike FE's fanbase it is majorly annoyingly passive about it (as in "so what if it could be better? It's fine as is" kind of passive. Doesn't help that a vocal minority of the other side of it is too toxic to leave former fans with any good reputation to the point where one would legit wonder if they aren't just current fans disguising as "former" fans just to give those a bad name).
Furthermore just like when FE's latest main games were Fates, Pokémon's recent remakes are nowhere near as "bad" as recent "brand new" entries. ORAS is, thanks to using RSE as base, legit not too bad if you can dissociate the model artstyle from the slippy slope that was XY.
It's to the point where if you want "quality" Pokémon content, all you can do is stick to the past and the spinoffs. So yea, a good chunk Pokémon fans do hate Pokémon at this point.

To be fair, if a franchise (besides Mario because it's Mario) keeps getting more and more new fighters in every single Smash installment while other franchises like Kirby as an example get no new fighters whatsoever, I too would also be questioning as to how on earth Kirby still does not have a 4th fighter by now (sorry it's just something that I had to point out)

I love Pokemon, i hate Fire Emblem, i love RPGS, and i hate the Pokemon Spinoffs (except for the Ranger games)

I can definitely understand hating Pokémon after having played better RPGs. It was the spinoffs that got me into the series to begin with, and the main series games were just a disappointment after that.
I don't care about the gameplay of Pokemon. I enjoy for the Pokemon designs themselves. That and the people too.

@Akira Kurusu you will like 3 houses a lot more, BL and GD are by far the best 3h has to offer. BE and church route are by far the 2 worst so get ready for a ride. You should choose BL next
NiteZ2 I wouldn’t really call the BE route one if the worst. It’s got some stuff going for it. It’s just a shame that it’s much shorter than the other routes, which hurts the story.
A lot of things from this game, such as the dodgy graphics and repeated use of animation is caused by Three Houses's development time. The game uses the same engine as the Dynasty Warriors spin-off, Fire Emblem Warriors. They presumably did this to save development time, and some aspects, such as the muddy resolution, definitely show. This is really Intelligent System's first main-entry HD Fire Emblem game, so it makes sense that it would be lacking in some places. I am hopeful that future installments on the switch have better visuals.
I wouldn't count on it. IntSys is historically not good with 3D visuals. Although Echoes did have some good animations, but that could maybe have been from the smaller scope, there's a lot less classes in that game.

-ps, if you really like story, 'Path of Radiance' has one of the best executed stories in the franchise, but it is one of the linear games with limited time and resources, so arguably not as accesible to new players.
To be fair, FE9 DOES have Bonus EXP and it gives you a shit ton of money to work with.
Sure, resources are *technically* limited, but as long as you're playing reasonably well you shouldn't ever feel like you're strapped for cash (or EXP.)
And as for things like special weapons, well...*forged silvers intensify.*
And its sequel Radiant Dawn is amazing, togetherthey comprise the Tellius games. Theres a reason the FE fandom universally adore the Tellius series, before Three Houses it was the pinnacle of story telling in the series.

@sean crowley With a limited amount of units, it’s better to just focus on the better characters of your house instead of Flayn. I’ve tried using Flayn for both, but Flayn honestly just sucks.

On normal mode Flayn doesn't get damaged as much if you level her up to level 50ish that is how bad flayn and there's like a couple of spells that onky crit enemies

Unless you play Crimson Flower, you can recruit everyone that isn't Rhea, Jeralt, the other House Leaders, and Hubert/Jeritza/Dedue. You just need to know what you're doing or play New Game +
Alax actually did it! He did what no other smash fan in history has ever had the courage to do! He's played a decades old franchise and said that it was actually pretty good WITHOUT smash clouding his vision! I didn't think it could be done but yet again smash fans usually never get anything done.

How I got into FE is such a weird story
I was 12 and while I had heard of Fire Emblem before from playing Brawl, I had no positive or negative preconceived notions about the series or the characters and knew absolutely nothing about the games.
One day I was cleaning up the kitchen counter and spotted a 3DS game wedged between the wall and some pot. I took it out and it looked like it had been there for _years_. I cleaned off the dust and stains and saw that it was Fire Emblem Awakening, a game that came out around three years ago at this point. I asked everyone in the house about it and no one ever remembered buying it. To this day we never figured out where the game came from, but it totally got me into the series.

I meanly just got Three Houses for Christmas and I was like “well everyone says this game is really really good, so why not give it a shot?” I decided to play it and now it’s one of my all time favorite games.
Now after that I really want to get into the series

Me. Like others i found out about fire emblem trough smash but never played the games cuz we were a mario house. Until i got my 3ds and i played awakening tought the 3ds demo i had fun in the first 2 chapters and then the demo ended but that didn't stop me from playing it over until my replays ran out. So i got it for my 13th birthday and im glad i did the marriage system was fun and fun fact i married sumia by complete accident cuz i had no idea what the green s ment until it was too late.

I never played a Fire Emblem game before. But I wanted to try something new for my Switch and the reviews were good so I thought... Meh, let's give it a try.

I like how he used Raphael as an example for learning a characters depth, the most shallow character in the game by 10 miles lol. But that's his charm, a nice simple reliable boy who's built like a firetruck.
You can't appreciate what is good if there isn't some bad in it. Even so, he still has stuff going on, he has a backstory, friendships, motives and quirks.

If you want to get more into FE, I’d also recommend FE Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. The characters aren’t as customizable gameplay wise but the story, music, and art direction are fantastic. It’s my subjective favorite, even though it’s not objectively the best game in the series.

"How Persona 5 Stole my Heart" Fire Emblem edition
I been trying to tell people three houses is a great game but then get “no fire emblem bad ruin smash”
I mean... I've been watching Three Houses as an LP and have really enjoyed it, but I dislike Fire Emblem in smash. Probably more the fact they have so many characters that feel so similar in character design and personality, that even having unique movesets doesn't make me interested in the latest ones. and I despise how Corrin and Byleth got in before their games came out.
I think the opinion would be so much lighter if they used different weapons throughout the cast and had variety in their personality and design. I think them choosing the protagonist as the main choice in nearly every Fire Emblem slot, is the main reason that Fire Emblem is disliked as it is, not adding how many spots it takes for not the biggest game franchise at this point in time.

Not a hater just never was intrested. Three Houses looks cool just on the trailer and cover, but will I be lost story wise? Gameplay any good. I've never played Persona 5 though I think the closest game I've played to this is XCOM 2. I loved that game so I'm just asking a fan should I give this game a chance or should I try one of the older games first?
@@GreenWolf2k As he said, the series is at its peak in accessibility with Three Houses. The story is completely independent from the other games, but you might not understand the whole picture on your first playthrough, but that is normal, since there are 4 seperate story lines. Gameplay wise, to be honest, I can not tell you if you would like it. You can only really tell by playing it yourself. However, it is not as hard to get into the mechanics of the game as with some other games. I myself started with FE Fates a few years ago and worked myself back through a few older titles, but Three Houses should be an even better starting point. All in all, I can only say you should give it a try, but do not let the “It's just fancy chess“ argument scare you off.

I’ll admit, as an outsider to the series, I do respect the fact that they took a risk, saw that it didn’t work, and said “Okay, that didn’t work.” They could’ve doubled down, or kept trying, but instead, they immediately shifted gears because people didn’t like it. That’s a good response to a mistake in my book.
That said, yeah, Three Houses seems way better.
The Illusionist See the actual game of Conquest was actually really fun imo. Like it was really challenging but it had some of the most tense and high stakes battles of any game I’ve played. The problem was like the story was just hot garbage and like tying the “true” ending into dlc is kinda shady but oh well. I still love the series

Just as an FYI, Three Houses is the Persona-iest Fire Emblem, so when people say "Awakening is the best one to get into the series with"... well, it's true, but you seemed to put a lot of value into the Persona aspects of this game, so don't be surprised if Awakening doesn't click with you as much.
Also, if you're going to play FE: Fates, please get the cart with all three versions of the game and hate it with me. I NEED MORE PEOPLE TO HATE REVELATIONS.
The only reason i liked Revelations the most was so i could get all the characters in my party
Conquest was the best route. Birthright was extremely bland and the ending scene where Azura the only character I actually gave a damn about dies pissed me off to no end. Revelations felt like poor excuse of someone trying to make everyone happy. I mainly liked conquest because of the difficulty. Also the story made more sense exposing Garon as a possessed monster rather than the other routes leaving out most details.
To be honest, I think the best game people can get into the series with is probably FE7, Fates and Awakening are not bad games (excluding Awakening Lunatic and Lunatic+), but they both had a lot of new elements which made the games different, and the lack of some of those aspects in earlier installments can cause players to have a much worse experience, also for a new player conquest may be a bit too challenging.
I love FE Fates Conquest but damn did Revelations and Birthright sucked
@@androxity8615 The DLC route is actually called _Revelation,_ and Conquest's plot is much of a mess. It doesn't help that Corrin is somewhat hard to sympathize with due to their dumbassery outside the supports.

It could very well be how much experience you have with management and strategy in video games. For example, I've played a lot of Fire Emblem and other strategy games and my runs total around 45-50 hours, whereas my brother, who isn't quite as well versed in the genre ended his first run around 70-80 hours. However, 100 seems really excessive, you must've spent every off day in Garreg Mach to get that much time.

I’m glad that people are actually giving the series a chance, it makes me so mad when people hate on the series without playing it first. I highly recommend that people play either Awakening or Three Houses to at least give the game a chance.
Even as a certified FE fan (I have the FEH Pass to prove it lol), even I agree that having 8 characters in Smash is kinda annoying, especially since 4 of those 8 have the same or similar moveset and 3 out of the 8 come from the same game. But that’s no excuse to hate on a series you’ve never played. Smash is meant to bring different gaming worlds together, not drift them apart.

Fire Emblem is liked plenty. Pretty much the only people who outright hate it are hardcore Smash fans.
We Fire Emblem fans have a love/hate relationship with the series. We love the battle system and the stories that some of them have but hate how Intelligent Systems is never consistent with the depth of their games. We know that they can do better and that is why we always hold onto hope that they improve with the next game. We want a challenge but we also want a good story as well as to see something new from it too.
I like the fire emblem series but I don't like their overinclusion in Smash especially when other franchises get less love like Kirby who since brawl does have like 15+ characters they could add and other titles like Earthbound, F-Zero, and Star Fox. They tend to only add characters from their big guys now like Mario, Pokemon, and Fire Emblem and it definitely could be better.
Awakening was a good fire emblem game but I don't think we needed any more characters than Robin.
Chrom, Lucina, and Corrin are too much. Kirby still hasn't even gotten galacta knight or even his theme in Smash and he's been in 5-6 Kirby games. It's just a bit unbalanced for me so it is always refreshing seeing King K. Rool or Ridley because they are from franchises that haven't seen any reps since 2008 brawl.

I really hope you'll try some of the older games in the series now! It gets a really bad rep and a lot of undeserved hate, even though the community is great and there's tons of content to get into.
Truth be told, as much as I love three houses, the community is the one thing that makes it hard for me to enjoy it completely. From what I've seen it mostly just consists of shipping. But again, that's just from everything I've seen.

Sure, a lot of the vocal fans of three houses focus on shipping, but the fire emblem community as a whole has always been so much more than that. There's a ton of great youtubers with intertwined communities (Mangs, Ghast and Mekkah, to name a few) and the Serenes Forest forum is still standing strong even after over a decade. There's talk about gameplay, story, music, basically everything, and there's a huge romhacking community.

I'm so glad we finally have a Fire Emblem game that's managed to make both old school and new fans happy, the fanbase has become like 200% less toxic after 3 Houses released and I don't think that's a coincidence. Also please never do another Camilla IS that's all I'm asking.
I highly disagree. Check out any discussion about Edelgard. Fanbase was at it's most chill after Echoes release. Although they became annoying after a while because of no 3H info, but I wouldn't call them toxic at that time.
Fanbase was toxic during Fates, although they were vilified because now you can make "Fates bad" comments and actually get people supporting you rather than calling you toxic.
Fates storylines were extremely shallow and lack depth. Almost none of the characters had a personality. If you were to ask me what was special about Camilla besides her looks I wouldn't have an answer because we never got into any depth of her character. While in 3 houses you could ask me what I like about Dorthea and I would answer that she loves to sing, dance and flirting with others. She isn't afraid to speak her mind and is outgoing. She had the goal of marrying into wealthy family but later realises that her friends are her family. SOOOO MUCH MORE DEPTH.

Regardless, the characters playing so similarly in Smash is my biggest peeve about this series. I've never had any issue with the series itself. I'm actually happy to hear it's a good game. I'd rather people have a good time than not.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is the best one I have played to date. It has well done 3rd person dungeon exploration and everything is just simplified without the excess fluff. I am a fan of the Bruce Lee Quote "Simplicity is Brilliance." also the Dread Fighter class is just dope as all hell. But one gripe is that they made it tough to grind and get upgraded gear, you get almost no currency until the last legs of the game. Not sure if the DLC crap helps with that.
As A certified Fire Emblem fan, Awakening is probably a better entry point into the series because it's more Fire Emblem in a way. Not that Three Houses isn't a fire emblem game, it just incorporates so many different kinds of things to the series that none of the older games have, like the monastery, the teaching, and everything like that. Three Houses is possibly a more fun game as it's more modern and everything and feels more like a "modern style" Fire Emblem, but Awakening is probably a better entrypoint in terms of what the series offers at its core. That's my opinion, at least.
Thanks for putting your thoughts out dude. For the longest time I've viewed the majority of the newer fe games under the light of being nothing but bad anime tropes. Additionally it was sort of a "huh" moment for me noticing an anime franchise like fe coming from nintendo and being a top IP since most of nintendo's top series are less anime and more their own thing. Even though I own awakening, I haven't put more than 10 hours into it, but after watching this video and getting a boost of encouragement from your comment, I think I'd be down to give the series an actual chance.

I was in a very similar boat, I never really played Fire Emblem, decided to try this out, I absolutely loved it (Specifically choosing Edelgard's route), I bonded with all the characters I could in my house, grew attached to every single one, and I will definitely do it again with a different story route

Huh... I picked up the game because I liked Byleth in Smash... I had a moment when slaying killing Solon (because that's my dead name) which was amazingly poetic. I followed my heart and Crimson Flower was my first ever route. I spend the rest of 365 hours of gameplay doing the rest of the main routes and it is now my new favorite video game of all time... I've cried 3 times after beating the game on my first ever run through of the game... that last cutscene broke me.... the game broke me again when I beat Verdant Wind.... I... don't know what to say.. I thought I might like the game... I didn't know I'd like it THIS much..
