Just stumbled onto these videos, and haven't even purchased Logic yet -- thinking about switching over from Studio One and wanted to see what Logic was like first -- and I have to say, these are the best video tutorials I've ever seen... And I've legitimately watched probably over a thousand hours of tutorials on all kinds of topics. And not just the best for music/production/daw/etc tutorials either, the best for any tutorial period. Concise, informative, to the point yet very in-depth... Just needed to tell you what an incredible job you're doing man. And that I myself, as well as countless other people I'm sure, are deeply grateful and appreciate all of your work and effort. You're a great dude, cheers brother

Hey gotta say, Music tech help guy vids are by far and away the best Logic Pro videos out there and probably the only notification I look forward to recieving. You are such a wonderful guy, to spend so much time and effort putting this stuff on here for free. I'd like to say thank-you big fella, your a great guitar player/musician and an amazing teacher. Thankyou mate.

Thank you for your descriptions. I’m completely blind, so I appreciate you using the terms that Logic uses, and also keystrokes. Voiceover uses the Logic’s terms to identify things, so when you use the term Inspector, that’s what Voiceover uses. Or if you were to talk about piano roll and other things. Even if it’s not visually name, the fact that you are describing it that way means that I can find it. And the fact that you are describing what keystrokes to use also means I don’t have to look it all up in the keyboard manager all the time. I really appreciate how you do your videos.

Just saw this comment because I’m watching through all of the tutorial series now. This comment made me smile so wide. So awesome that you’re able to overcome such a disability as blindness to pursue something you’re passionate about. It’s really inspiring. Thank you for your comment.

@@shanebreece Same here! This channel is an amazing resource for Logic Pro and seeing this comment made me realize just how spot on he is with the words he uses, and the accuracy of the information he is publishing.
But mostly, it gives Leo the ability to enjoy music creation using powerful technology like Logic Pro, without the confusion and frustration of trying to navigate incorrect terms and functions.

You are a really amazing teacher-- and a tremendous musician. I love how you work hard to not to assume that people know all sorts of fundamental tech, jargon and related things. As someone who has been around music/midi/digital music tech since the mid-80's, I try to keep that in mind, but often don't do anywhere near the great job that you do when I try to help friends and others. Great instruction btw.

    Hello!
I'm really struggling with my acoustic guitar recording.
    I can't reach -5dBFS easily like you.
    I needto strum very hard!
    My setup is:
Acoustic Guitar Lakewood A-32 CP with LR Baggs Anthem System plugged directly into my RME-Babyface Pro audio interface.
When I set into Totalmix the maximum gain allowed (+9) @ -10 dBu standard (it's louder than +4dBV),
I can reach -10 dBFS when playing soft and -5dBFS when strumming very hard!
Now the point is: I can record my guitar quite good while strumming, but it's impossible to reach 0 dBFS, even though I strum extremely hard!!!
Instead If I try with my cheaper Acoustic Fender CD-60 CE, I can easily reach overdrive 0dBFS!
P.s. both guitar physical volume knobs are set at their max level.
The LR Baggs guitar system has just been replaced, it's new and it's ok, maybe I should set the gain of the system with a specialist (my guitar store seller told me this kind of possibility to increase the gain).
As I read on the lr bagg anthem system install manual:
    ---------------------------
"MIC GAIN CONTROL (Adjusts the level of the Tru • Mic relative to the level of the Element)
IMPORTANT: Setting this control correctly is vital to the sound of the Anthem system.
First, you must roll the mix control completely toward the neck. Play through a P.A. or acoustic amplifi er while you are making adjustments. A small fl at-
head jeweler’s screwdriver will be needed.
Your amplifi ed tone should be well balanced and true to the acoustic sound and feel of the guitar. If it lacks clarity and top-end, increase the mic’s level by
turning the control clockwise. Back it off slightly If you experience excessive handling noise and/or brightness."
    ---------------------------
But the point is: When I try to add a new track below the strumming part, for example recording some riffs or solos or harmonics sounds, they sound really low compared to the strumming part!!!
    How could I solve this?
    I'm really struggling.
    Should I use the compressor?
    Thank you in advance.

    One question though,
When I'm trying to record a track while having the drummer play along
Logic tells me that the live drummer can't be during the record and that I would have to switch to a similar midi drumkit.
Yet he manages to record his guitar track with the drums in the background. Is there something I am missing in the settings or anything?

If you have great hardware to work with, yes. It's normal practice for studio recording. But it takes more time to play around with tones, so if you're in a hurry or you think you're going to want to change things later, don't do it.

Question: I am about to start a project where the mix engineer needs only my DI electric guitar parts, but I need some amp sounds while recording. If I record the guitar parts like this, when consolidating, is it as simple as leaving the relevant box unticked so no effects will print. Will that leave the consolidated folder with dry DI tracks only..?

    • @MusicTechHelpGuy
      @MusicTechHelpGuy  2 роки тому

Yes, if you bypass effects inserts while exporting, you’ll export just the DI track. I do the same with my mixing clients, so I can re-amp the guitars through a real amp, or use other 3rd party amp plugins.

If you’re double tracking, do you have to re-record the track on the duplicate one or can you just copy the original audio file to the new track?

I mean you can copy, but you it sounds a lot better to record again, it can 'fill in the gaps' if that makes sense

I see your regions dont start on 0 position but on the start of second bar. I do it the same way to catch all the waveform including tiny parts before start. But there is a mess about bar counting then. It would be nice to have an option to set start of edit window on -1.

+Michal Pacalaj you can. You can drag your sessions start point to -1 or even -5 if you want. I don't necessarily find it important to start on bar 1 for any reason
