i forgot to pose for a thumbnail so you're left with this oops. Also, I promise more interesting videos are coming soon! I just needed to post a technical one today because people have requested this:)
Lillie Shippy I can play “do you want to build a snowman” on the piano and that’s where I am after 6 years of trying to teach myself haha Guitar and ukulele were a piece of cake
Tbh the transition would be the pretty much the same for guitar or ukulele.. they both have the same principles... u should’ve chosen guitar since it has fuller sound and it more authentic IMO
B3kwags: they share most of the basics but definitely not the same principles. If that were to be true, then what's the darn difference between these two? The ukulele is drastically smaller than a guitar, in fact it's roughly the same size of a full size violin! Let's not forget about the fingerboard; it's not as wide as a guitar's, and the chords are easier to play. A F chord on the uke is simpler than that on a guitar. Furthermore, playing an instrument with 2 extra strings than what you're normally used to is challenging. Yeah, I agree that the guitar sounds far more wholesome, but the ukulele helped me transition to said instrument! I have no regrets in buying and investing time into this fun little uke :)
I played biotin for a year, then quit cause I didn’t like it then played guitar for fun and didn’t learn anything from it,now I play uke and defiinently found my favourite instrument
Transition from being an uke player to a guitar player is very challenging for me . In my first journey in learning ukulele i really love watching your tutorial because some of your tutorials are very easy to learn so after few months i bought a guitar since i often like challenging myself more. There are times that i almost give up but after two months I'm proud to say that i can strum without looking at my fretboard. Thanks a lot 😘
I find it helpful to realize that the strings on a ukulele are tuned up a fourth from the top four strings on a guitar. That’s why a G has the same chord shape as a D on the guitar. A ukulele is like a guitar with a capo on the fifth fret, missing two base strings, and the fourth string up an octave. That might be confusing to some, but I find it helpful when transposing songs.
if you put a capo on your guitar on the 5th fret then the bottom four strings are tuned the same as the ukulele. the only difference is that the G string is an octave lower, but still pretty similar.
honestly guitar is so hard for me just because of the fact that it has six strings instead of 4 so I just use a baritone uke bc it has 4 strings but they’re the same as the bottom 4 on a guitar
So glad you made this video my mom is taking me for lessons next week for my first time doing a music lessons and she told me to choose a ukulele or guitar and I need to choose and now I see the difference thanks for making this video
I'm going to be getting an Electric Guitar, so I decided to watch this hoping for advice. I definitely got what I needed! Thanks for all the help Elise! ^^
Thank you so much elise! You inspired me to play the ukulele . I got mine last year. Now I'm trying to learn the guitar. This video helped me so much. Keep making amazing videos like this one. Love from India
I literally get on UA-cam with my guitar at the ready, freaking out because I've realized hardly any of the chords translate over from my ukelele and there are so many strings *HELP* only to see this - Elise, you are a L I F E S A V E R
Can you do a voice lesson video? or at least how to have a calm voice when singing and/or talking? that would be helpful. Just cause your voice is so soft and calming. Anyways, ily!
Lol, when i played ukulele the First time, I thought the frets was too small (I have both instruments, but I have played guitar 3 years before I got my first uke)
So I've been playing the ukulele for like 1 year and last month I found an old guitar in my grandma's house so I'm learning guitar rn and I relate to everything in this video!! Thanks Elise, the best as always❤
Quiara Camacho It's one thing to learn chords and just strumming them, and another to play them arpeggiated in a technique called "sweep picking" so try that if you aren't being challenged yet :D
I played ukulele for a year or so and moved up to guitar 6 months ago. My ukulele and acoustic guitar are in storage and my electric guitar is with me.
When you first do uke when you do guitar you're like *it's to big aaaah there 6 strings this is hard* And when you start of with guitar and start ukulele you're like *this is so small and awkward to hold aaaah theres only 4 strings I've way less to work with*
I transitioned from Violin to Ukulele. My friend and I started playing at the same time 2 months ago, except she didn’t do Violin before. Yesterday I asked her how her progress was going with uku, I can officially play uku. I can transition, do bar chords and the whole shebang. My friend gave up because it hurt. I am so grateful that my parents forced me to play violin so that I could skip the pain and didn’t lose inspiration like I did with Violin.
i tried learning guitar, i’ve been trying for almost 3 years and i’m not getting anywhere so i decided to try ukulele instead. i get my first uke today and i’m so excited!
Wait I am crying. I have been playing ukulele for a month now and I just ordered a guitar because I think I can do it. and I needed this. Why is she on point with perfect timing? The only thing I know about guitar is the standard tuning is eadgbe. The only reason I know this is because of Elise’s video with Eden “Eddie ate dynamite good bye Eddie”
My birthday is coming up, I have a guitar and a keyboard but I really want a ukulele! I just found your channel and I love it! Definitely gonna ask for ukulele to learn to play it!
When I started guitar, I had never played ukulele and still haven’t, I had my dads guitar the he tried playing when he was in 5th grade. It was about 30 years old. Luckily after having lessons for around 6 months, they let my get a new one for my birthday, and let me tell you, it was phenomenal having the action not 6 inches from the fretboard lol
I agree that once you've played with your fingers on the uke, you like playing with them (and not the pic) on the guitar as well, cause you get addicted to this feeling of being closer to the instrument
I know this video is 3 years old but I'm commenting anyway, I just bought myself a fender telecaster ukulele!! I've always liked the idea of playing the guitar, especially electric guitar. But when I tried to learn, my fingers hurt too much and I gave up (I didn't buy a guitar, my mum plays) Last year I pucked up my mum's ukulele and it made me so happy, I didn't even get much pain in my fingers. I hope to play the guitar in the future, I like the idea of getting a matching guitar to my telecaster uke 😂
I’ve had a guitar for like 8 years but I’ve never had lessons and could never play it. I’ve been playing uke (self taught) since November and love it. I’ve just decided to have a go at my guitar again, kind of a coincidence that you posted this right now! 😂 thanks!
Yay I’m so happy I found this! I got a uke last year for Christmas and LOVED it. This year I got a guitar and was having a very hard time transitioning to using a pick for strumming/fingerpicking and my friend kept making fun of me telling me I needed to use a pick, that that’s the proper way to play. You made me feel better using fingerstyle haha. Happy holidays. 😊
There's an instrument called the Guitalele (which is basically a hybrid between the guitar and ukulele) and if you were to play one, you would notice that ukulele and guitar are actually extremely similar, and that a ukulele IS basically a guitar but only with the bottom 4 strings, 4 frets higher, and the top string of a ukulele is actually an octave higher than on guitar. That's why a G on the ukulele looks the same as a D on the guitar... and almost all of the chords do that if you just add the top two strings... EX: C in uke is actually G on guitar, F in uke is C on guitar, Am on uke is Em on guitar.... and honestly you can play the ukulele on guitar if you put a capo on the 4th fret and make sure not to play the top two strings
OMG I REALLY NEEDED THIS VIDEO RIGHT NOW THANKS ELISE!!! I’ve been playing the ukulele for a while now and recently got a guitar and having difficulty playing it. This video was super helpful! Thank you 😊 ❤️
I bought a Ukulele Sept/Oct last year and now, I'm planning to buy a guitar for my 21st birthday in July. I started writing songs when I got the ukulele last year and I think now I'm finally ready for the guitar. In the meantime, I will keep on writing and learn my guitar soon and maybe.... by summer next year, I'd be going out to public and start performing for real haha. Will be updating! Summer 2022.
Hiya Elise, A great video and it's really nice to see the transition going from Uke to Guitar, as they are usually the other way around! Love your top too. Thanks very much and stay safe and well, from England.❤️🎸🎶🌞
Hi Elise! Not sure if your going to see this comment, but I just want to say that I absolutely LOVED your video “I wrote a song using only your Instagram comments”. AMAZING! It turned out SO BEYOND GOOD! Your voice is fantastic, you play the ukulele perfectly, and that song literally sounded like a real professional song! SO SO COOL! I really hope you do a third one, because they both were so good! :)
I know I am late but honestly thank you so much. My parents got me a uke and a guitar for my birthday and so far I love my uke but my guitar is really hard so thank you
Omg TYSM i've been learning guitar and it's so much harder than the uke (but that's kind of obvious lol). Most of this stuff i'm pretty familiar with, but the video was still helpful regardless. Great advice! Thanks boo! Also, i hope you'll start making some more guitar tutorials!! I miss those! :)
Hi Elise when i play my classical guitar i point the neck up i dont rest it in my lap its helps me get to higher notes when i'm playing pieces... Btw great tutorial im starting to play the ukulele again
Yasss Another video from The best ukulele player ever c: You are such an inspirational youtuber to help me to start to keep going on the Donnor Concert ukulele I have :D
I need this so much, because last last week i bought my uke and learned from ur vids, and now i bought my ac. guitar and i thought it will be easy for me but i failed ;-;
Watching the daily Elise video! Also I got a new baby yesterday (ukulele) and it is amazing! I was laughing so hard because I buckled my ukulele up lol. I ❤️this channel because your tutorials are so helpful and the editing is always on point 👏. I want to thank you for helping me from day one ☝️! Thank you so much for all you do on your channel and I hope you have a great day drink your water eat your vegetables and be a good person,Bye!
Honestly, other than the fact that two instruments are more expensive than one instrument, I see no reason why anyone wouldn't learn both. The techniques used are so similar that learning both isn't really much of a hassle. And since they both have their strengths and weaknesses, and their different sounds, having more tools in your arsenal as a musician is almost never this easy.
I love playing guitar it makes me so happy I spend hours on my guitar and I take guitar lessons and soon in the future I want to start playing ukulele I have very small hands even though my hands are flexible so my guitar teacher gave me a different chord sheet and it said ez chords for small hands so for example when you play G chord on guitar it’s uses like 3 or 4 fingers and on the ez chords sheet the g chord is only 1finger on the third fret or for Em chord you don’t use any fingers and when you play ez chords you only play the three bottom strings and my guitar is half sized half steel and half nilon so ya
I first started playing guitar and it was difficult at first! But when I get used to it, its easy. I just cant play barchords yet since I started playing the guitar this summer. I tried playing the ukulele although I still prefer guitar even though the ukulele is easier than the guitar. When you play songs on the ukulele, the song isnt that great for completing it. The guitar fit for all of the song music.
i forgot to pose for a thumbnail so you're left with this oops. Also, I promise more interesting videos are coming soon! I just needed to post a technical one today because people have requested this:)

Definitely found it easier to transition from ukulele to guitar....the struggle has been trying to learn piano. That shit is hard to teach yourself
Megan yes!!!! and I want to learn classical music which takes many many years ......ill just play cello instead 😂😍
I agree 100%. I’ve taught myself ukulele and guitar, and tried to move on to piano, but it’s not as easy as I had assumed...
Lillie Shippy I can play “do you want to build a snowman” on the piano and that’s where I am after 6 years of trying to teach myself haha
Guitar and ukulele were a piece of cake
Megan Ahaha the struggle is real
Megan It takes time to learn... and it takes a lot of practice
I really needed this vid lol. The uke is super easy to me but then I try to play the guitar and it’s real hard. Thanks 👌
you're welcome!!:)

Transitioning from the violin to the guitar is pretty hard for me, so I settled for the ukulele :) best thing ever!

Paula Pueblito Lopez good on you then! :) It was just my opinion lol ( I play piano, violin and started the classic beautiful guitar 5 weeks ago) 👍👍
Hey I know this comment is old but Mandolin has the same tuning as a violin, it's just picked instead of bowed, so it might be an easy transition.
I played biotin for a year, then quit cause I didn’t like it then played guitar for fun and didn’t learn anything from it,now I play uke and defiinently found my favourite instrument

To convert a guitar into a ukulele, just put a capo at the fifth fret and play only the bottom four strings.
Here i am watching without having ukulele or ever guitar 😂😂 .. but i hope having a ukulele soon.
Hamsa Essam Same here, but I’m trying to choose between a Ukulele or a Guitar.
I have a guitar lying around my room AND I'm getting a ukulele soon
I like stringed instruments
Same😭🙌 because i don't have enought money to buying guitar.. i hope one day i can buying guitar and travel around the world with guitar...
Same
You should do playing Uke chords on guitar and guitar chords on Uke!
Pun Master this is good I hope she noticed this
That would be kinda hard because they have a different amount of strings but it’s a good idea
Oh dang that'd be hard for guitar to uke bc guitar has 6 strings instead of 4 so DAAAAANG
A lot of the chords are the same, just called different things. Like D on guitar is G on ukulele.
if you put a capo on your guitar on the 5th fret then the bottom four strings are tuned the same as the ukulele. the only difference is that the G string is an octave lower, but still pretty similar.

Convenient timing I played the uke and I started playing the guitar LAST WEEK
This is SOOO helpful!! I keep playing ukulele chords on my guitar, and it sounds really odd. xD Thank you!
If you wanna use uke chords on a guitar put your capo on 5th fret and use only the highest 4 strings, that is the same tuning as a ukulele
After playing my ukelele, i found it suuuuuper easy to play the guitar. Im even considering getting an electric guitar wish me luck😂
Quiara Camacho It's one thing to learn chords and just strumming them, and another to play them arpeggiated in a technique called "sweep picking" so try that if you aren't being challenged yet :D

Wow literally yesterday I started learning guitar after having played ukulele and this is exactly what I needed love this
There's an instrument called the Guitalele (which is basically a hybrid between the guitar and ukulele) and if you were to play one, you would notice that ukulele and guitar are actually extremely similar, and that a ukulele IS basically a guitar but only with the bottom 4 strings, 4 frets higher, and the top string of a ukulele is actually an octave higher than on guitar. Can you please make a few guitar tutorials? I just love the way you explain everything
Thank you! I actually thought about learning guitar after learning ukulele. The video really helped ! 😊😊
Hii could you PLEASE DO A “guitar recommendations” video PLEASE PLEASE !!
OMG I REALLY NEEDED THIS VIDEO RIGHT NOW THANKS ELISE!!! I’ve been playing the ukulele for a while now and recently got a guitar and having difficulty playing it. This video was super helpful! Thank you 😊 ❤️
I always planning if I'm gonna play ukulele or guitar and I pick ukulele because I think it's easy to learn and now I want to try guitar
I like both!
I think with guitar you have more opportunity to play songs
On the other hand ukulele has better sound when it's about higher notes

I also started playing guitar and then moved to uke. if u start with guitar the ukulele is SO EASY!!! XD great video as always 💕
I am searching for videos like this Thank you so much.
you're welcome!!:)
Please make a guitar scales vid! For some reason your the only guitar “teacher” on the internet that I can understand and like
Idk why, but personally I was more comfortable with the guitar because I had space to stretch my fingers rather than the uke.
P.S. I have small hands

This is crazy, yesterday i thought about playing/learning Guitar and now you upload this Video
I went from the gutair to the uke. It made the learning process of the uke so much easier.

I’m getting one around the 14th of October. Aka around 11 days XD
1-4 strings on a guitar at the 5th are the same as a ukulele. However, the g is an octave down. That's why some chords look very similar.
I'm thankful that I know guitar and to start my ukulele because it will be easier especially the *STRINGS!* Its not that hard to slide in the uke!
Hi @Elise, why did u prefer Uke over Guitar?… I am trying to figure which will be a good instrument to pick up?

I tried playing the ukulele although I still prefer guitar even though the ukulele is easier than the guitar. When you play songs on the ukulele, the song isnt that great for completing it. The guitar fit for all of the song music.
