This is not just an issue for The Federal Government but all across the Board of Employment in Canada
Yes, but when the head(the government) is corrupt so is the whole body all across the board.
This is a systemic issue embedded in deep rooted colonialism mindset. Over representation of like minded people and less to no representation of coloured people at higher level of boards/organization is the cause of discrimination plus reformation in employment & labour laws is need of the hour and if done might help bring the disparity levels at work down.
Trust me it has prevented us black folks who work hard to make a good living for ourselves trying to support our families to create permanent change for ourselves from getting ahead. It's awful graduated with B.A. honours speaking here who has experienced the worse end of employment discrimination 7 times. I was so burnt out. My children have given me new light and motivation to be better and fight back this time around.

Given the dismal history with the rural schools concerning the indigenous people of Canada, there is no wiggle room for this issue to be ignored any longer. You have the science, knowledge, on your side. They cannot dispute it, nor ignore it. If possible try to find past examples of the kinds of excuses they have used to dismiss this issue as supplemental evidence.

It doesn't matter if you are mixed you are considered black when one parent is black. Check your history on the terminology what the white considered as black. People who were mixed and passed as whites were still considered black by white standards. I didn't write the book I only read it. Back in my early career i tried to apply for a job at the big court dwntwn T.O. The 2nd flr sent me 5th flr, then 5th flr sent me to 2nd flr??.. was outside all frustrated when i saw this white judge in full robe and stopped him to say what i just went through.. this man marched me into the courthouse right to the office to the 2nd flr where i need to apply..
I never worked there cuz the whole ordeal just turned me off and left a bad taste!

I've been going through this all my life, work hard and prove myself over and over and at the end of the day, no raise, no promotion, I even asked and the answer is pretty much no with a list of invalid excuses that has nothing to do with me and my performance, it's always our company is cutting back and we can't afford to this or that so can't do anything at the moment but yet I seen ppl that are not black get hired after me and get promoted within a short period of time with a pay increase, I've switched jobs 3 different times over a long period, the outcome is just the same, just come in for work everyday like a robot with nothing to look forward to

I believe Canada is the most racist country in the world towards BP. At least the U.S admits to having a problem but Canada acts like it don't really exist here and take a non chalant approach to it. Can we talk about optometrist on strike in Ontario since May 2021? My mom has glaucoma and her eyes checked monthly. My mom was willing to pay to be seen but they refused. Now she cannot be seen because of the strike and shes at high risk of losing her eyesight.

My supervisors and managers would select their own people to be trained so that when a position comes available they would say that person has experience working in that area or on that machine.

Are we talking about equal opportunity or equal outcome? Cause if it's equal opportunity, then there should be no class action lawsuit. If they want equal outcome, then this isn't Grade one where everyone gets a trophy or ribbon for participating. This is life. You have first place and you have last place and everything in between. At some point, you need to take of those diapers and enter the world of competition. It's what drives economy and the human race. Do you want someone to build you a house, or take care of your health, knowing that person was the best at what they did OR someone who had help along the way because they couldn't place first because of talent or other limitations? You want the best person for whatever you are doing. So why are we allowing people to bully us into changing policies where everyone gets a participation trophy? It's because these people hate competition. The rules are fair. There's no rule saying a certain race can't participate in something, whether it's getting an education or applying for a job...it's that because of competition, certain races feel they need to change the environment...meaning, they want to get rid of competition and introduce equal outcome...that way, they win, regardless of how watered down the outcome or how false it can be. My dad also said, just because you graduated high school, does not mean you are qualified to be an adult where your opinions matter. We are now listening to the class clowns, the under achievers, the parents of kids who never won first, second or third in anything in their lives. Hi, Job discrimination is everywhere in the corporate world too. If you’re an immigrant especially with dark/brown skin colour tone, they will take you for a ride. I’m in the financial industry - well qualified with good education, skills & knowledge, but they will overlook me for promotion- hire less qualified inexperienced people for higher positions. We (black/brown) people work a job to survive while others work to live. This discrimination must end at work places- can’t treat black/brown as second class citizens anymore. There are many more things to mention about discrimination on job - not a book but we all can come up with an encyclopaedia on such incidents. One thing I remind everyone never break down or mentally or physically yield to their tactics on you. Vent your feelings with friends whom you trust and family. This is a psychological mind games they play to make you crumble be sober and vigilant and do your job at the best of your abilities. God bless!

He will exalt those who are humble who trust in Him and debase those who exalt themselves. I been in that situation with some other blacks years ago,we were in the company for years and supervisors would fast tracked their own people who just got hired few months before and that went on for years.

I’ve worked jobs and seen white dudes start lower positions and doing easier jobs than me and when I ask them how much they’re making I find out they’re making more money than me while just entering the door. I’m talking high school kids with limited experience enter the door and already making more than more. Now way that isn’t based on race. These people don’t want to change a thing about how the world is because it’s beneficial to them. Do you think they really want to screw up a good thing. And you’re really silly as well if you think they didn’t know about residential schools and the children killed. As black people we need to change our mind and stop being conditioned to the vanities and lustful things of this world ( their fashion, and all their non essential products). We need to support our own and only our own businesses 24/7 and if you can’t find what you need at that store unless it’s detrimental to your life then go without until you can get it from a black business. The main problem with us is we’re always trying to bring attention to these governing bodies like they don’t know what’s going on, it’s called a system for a reason and nah it’s not broken it’s working as it should. When we show unity amongst each other first then we can talk. And no we absolutely don’t need any outsiders/infiltrators acting like their a friend to our cause “Be aware of these wolves in sheep clothing” who come to destroy from within. If you ain’t ready to go to these lengths than stop complaining. They ain’t never going to respect us, love us, or treat us fair. If they were going to they would of done it already. So we need to exercise unity and build economic growth amongst ourselves because there is power in the dollar. And if you’re not willing to do that then just kill that noise. A topic I would like for Brandon to touch is that of student with huge student loans who can’t get a work related to their field of study.
The economy matters you have to be willing to move to a better job in Canada . Canadas economy is not as robust as the USA. So the job you went to school for might not exist in Canadas small economy

I suppose I’ve been naive because I’ve refused to accept that discrimination could be a reason why I haven’t been able to obtain a job that corresponds to my Masters education in public health. Many interviews, yes, but no opportunity. I’ve had more success obtaining unpaid internships with no job guarantee, which sadly highlights the disparity. I hope we can move forward to do better as a nation because this is disappointing.
I hate to say it but yeah, it's probably discrimination. And I'll bet the employers don't think they are discriminating, they just unconsciously judge BIPOC, PWD, and older applicants more harshly, never find them *quite* good enough. It's rotten.

Intriguing topic of discussion that should be interrogated more fully. There are also many COLLATERAL DAMAGES and Social Losses to Black workers as well. Promotion / Glass ceiling issues aside, there remains the vexing issue of Workplace Racism and Wrongful dismissal when a Black employee challenges or demands accountability for workplace Racism / White Privilege operating. There is much Failure of the Government workplace and the Human Rights tribunal system to protect Black workers and/or give them Redress. There is no admission of wrongdoing or genuine accountability ! Please continue this topic !
This Lawsuit should be extended to include Provincial and Municipal City Black workers too. We too suffer from these discriminatory polices and actions. As for discrimination in Hiring and Promotion, the argument should interrogate White Privilege - Hiring Preferences silently operating rather than charges of "discrimination" or "racism" that will be met only with Denial and claims of following the Human Rights Code and Personnel Policy. Also, this is not just a White vs Black dichotomy issue. There are Other groups that practice Anti-Black discrimination and exclusion in the Labour Market / workplace. I have spoken and written about this for Ages.

@@KayEzy So True....but I felt I still needed to articulate an underlying problem. Being Black, and having experienced workplace racism / wrongful dismissal and won...I recognized this was also a pervading problem,, namely that the Systems designed to protect Human - Workers' Rights and the Employers were rarely Held accountable. And I mean "Accountability" with Consequences to the Organization or its usually Euro-Canadian Managers. Rather there was further cover-up and stonewalling of the Racialized inequity / workplace oppression. Brandon brought up a serious issue that needs deeper interrogation and more critical voices.
Im so frustrated, that Black Canadians can go out an win Olympic Gold medals for National pride and be the media's Pet, but the we are still treated like crap with respect to Labour Market and Policing /Justice systems.
