    I really like the analogy of different highways to the same goal with a car on each of those highways. That's a very easy concept to grasp, and to explain to people.

    The answers about goals are very inspiring. I know that practice, persistent and hard work is what makes you achieve your goals, but sometimes I forget it. It's great to be reminded that I can't just pick up something and be amazing at it. It's a reassuring thought.
    I don't have any goals with/about films at the moment, but I'm really inspired to sit down and figure out what i actually want to do after watching your video. Thank you!

    You inspire me all the time. I have kept up to date on your content for just about 4 years now, and you guys have taught me so much. I have watched you guys grow as filmmakers as I grew along with you, always trying to keep up haha. As you said in this video, just go out and do it, I am doing just that. I am currently sitting in my new office/studio space and would not be here if it was not for Film Riot in general. Keep killing it guys, I hope to not just meet you all one day, but maybe even work on a project together.
    Best,

    Hey, Film Riot! I'm sort of freaking out! I want to make a short film, I have an idea, The basic equipment and already started screenwriting but I do NOT have any musical talent! I have a very good idea in my head of how I want it to sound, I even have the basic MIDI equipment and VST's. I just don't have the musical touch or time to score the film. What do you do for your movie scores?
    I know some movies don't "Need" music but I really feel mine do! I feel the music and sound is 50% of the movie!

    • @SCHMIELSHOW
      @SCHMIELSHOW 7 років тому

      Meet some local musicians in your area. Try to expand your network and hopefully you'll meet some guys in a band or who DJ.
      Also, just shoot the movie anyways. In my limited experience, the music is usually the last thing that goes in anyways.

    • @JoshuaGerlach
      @JoshuaGerlach 7 років тому

      Thanks, I'll try to get out more, lol.
      I was thinking it might be best to film anyway as well, I have an Idea how I want the music to go so I guess I'll just try and stick to that. See I'm rather fond of movies where the music and film are in sync especially in fight scenes.

    Hi Robalong, I am about to shoot my first film. I have been working to make a film good enough for 6 years and I believe this film is the one to go to theaters and my entire cast thinks the same way. However, I don't have enough money for a lawyer. Do you think I should risk sending in a complete feature into a studio without a lawyer or should I wait until I can afford it, which will probably be 4 or more years down the line?

    • @premiergiantproductions4522
      @premiergiantproductions4522 7 років тому

      I would shoot the film for you and you alone. Worry about the studio later. Chances are, they'll want to buy the rights from you and they'll want to hire their own crews and such and shoot it their way. I would just make it for you when you can, and that way you have the satisfaction that you made it, and there's proof down the road that it was your original idea and that you created something out of it. Studios should be the last thing you're worried about. Making a quality film with the resources you have should be the first. Hope that helps. Good luck

    • @premiergiantproductions4522
      @premiergiantproductions4522 7 років тому

      Start with the writing. Write some good concepts, some good ideas. Then start making little scenes, and putting those together to create longer videos. You CAN do it alone. Sure, it's challenging. But, if you make something good and quality, then people will see it and you may even have some friends who see it and end up wanting to act in something for you. Best of luck

      I started alone, and still do most of my work alone. I do mostly corporate videos on this channel, but I have another channel thats just silly personal stuff I do. I would just say to come up with little ideas that you think are specific to you, entertain you, are funny to you, mean something to you, etc. And film those. It doesn't have to be elaborate. Just set up the camera, block your scene, and act. And if you need more than one character, play that other character. I know it sounds strange, and it feels so at first. But when you end up making a video you're proud of, it's rewarding. It's actually kind of fun to do and makes you better in the long run.

    Would you say that something as trying to get your short film directed in Edgar Wright style of fast cut and close ups is not original

    • @premiergiantproductions4522
      @premiergiantproductions4522 7 років тому +1

      Edgar Wright wasn't the first person to use that technique, so even he wasn't original. Being good at what you do and learning is about molding your techniques by learning and "stealing" from others. But at the same time coming up with new ideas and little things that differ from what you've learned. So, it can still be original, as long as you do it because you want to do it that way and try to put some kind of stamp on it that is specific to your style. That's what Edgar Wright did.

      I would say show the actors faces more, that way we can see how they react and think accordingly, and take away the ambiance when you want to scare the audience, but make them wait for ages- the longer the audience wait prepared for a jump scare (which is usually shit) the more frightened they become- so just never release the tension.

    So I hate to be the typical plugging commenter... but I recently put up a 30 minute short film I've worked over half a year on, and would absolutely love to get feedback from anyone who takes the time to watch it! The film is called "Vendetta". So if you have time please watch it and tell me what you think

    Why is dialogue in blockbusters (like alien C) soooo awful? Often times bringing up things that aren't even in the movie? Sorry I don't have any examples off the top of my head just something that I've noticed.
    Should Dialogue be used to "fill time" even if it's specific and non relevant to any part of the movie or its characters?

      The best movies are the ones where everything in every scene has something to further the story with. I HATE filler. and I'm sure a lot of other people do. A tight, well-developed script is going to be admired and appreciated more than one that has nonstop, bloated dialogue and a overly long running time. So, I think that dialogue should be kept concise and only used if it serves the story.

      Let's go with a man who is temporarily unemployed, and gets a job at a Pizza joint. Little did he know however, that the Pizza joint was actually run by Mathias Swerk, a German gang leader.

      Fight over the last peace of pizza could be done very well if you go with the ridiculous as fuel.
