This may seem like a simple, effortless song, but in every way the song, scene, and Bing's performance are a masterpiece. "Ho Hum", and everything Bing does in this scene, advances the plot in the context of the wonderful movie, "Road to Morocco", that it comes from-- which also includes the incomparable title song. The classic film, 82 minutes of sheer bliss, also features great work by Bob Hope, has sparkling black-and-white photography, and was way ahead of its time. See the movie! Bravo!
I watch this scene over and over and am simply amazed at the camera work! Look at how the camera glides ahead of Bing as he sings. From the 12 second point all the way to 1:20, there aren't any edits at all! The next set up comes at 1:40 to about 2:20 as Bing walks toward us and the camera glides backward. No shimmy, no shake at all. It makes you wonder how the production crew set this up. In this age of steadicam and image stabilization, shots like these are A snap!:) But nearly 80 years ago, I'd guess it was a rather complex task. Plus, the song and Bing's performance make me smile.:) Pure entertainment.:)
I love this sequence--one of the things I've always loved about watching Crosby in these films is his body language; even just walking along he exudes a certain charm that is all his own. Watch how he runs up the stairs! The "road" films are certainly treasures of Americana and I think they will be enjoyed for another millennium or two. Thanks for sharing this!
Remembering Bing Crosby born on May 3, 1903. He was an American singer and actor. The first multimedia star, he was one of the most popular and influential musical artists of the 20th century worldwide. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bing_Crosby
I love this song. I always thought Bing had a smooth, round voice, lyrical and soft, but I've always been shot down and told Sinatra was better. Sorry, but you cannot compare the two. Big fan of the Road series and of Bob Hope. Thank you for loading this and making me smile.
No. They were wrong and you were right. Bing's voice is superior from a technical standpoint and stronger across the vocal ranges than Frank's. Sinatra, however, had superior phrasing. He was a very confessional singer and when he sang about heartache or loss you knew he was singing from experience. Bing had trouble showcasing that type of vulnerability in his singing because he had a more guarded, aloof personality than Frank. Frank was a boil. Bing was a simmer.
It might come back. History moves in cycles. But it could be hundreds of years before the average joe is donning a suit again instead of a t-shirt and basketball shorts.
THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN SO LONG, WERE IS ALL THE GREAT MUSIC. I DO NOT MEAN IN ANY WAY TO SAY THAT TODAY'S MUSIC IS BAD BECAUSE IT'S NOT, IT;E SIMPLY NOT BING CROSBY
I love that eventhough aunt Lucy is a ghost that the scenes of her haunting Bing Crosby and Bob Hope are not scary at all because Aunt Lucy is very obviously Bob Hope in drag so it is amusing not scary.
What no referance to killing ppl, no comments about sex. No insults toward race or authority? Man how did we survive the 40's and 50's without snoop dog?
Thank heaven for the Road movies.
A reason to get up in the morning.
Bing was King.
I grew up watching the “Road to...” series. Miss movies like this.

The fact this was in the 40s, this was the best it can get and imo they reached way passed that.
Light, happy tune that really represents Crosbys attitude and lifestyle.
I love when they refer to other movies. "I can't talk now, here comes Mr. Jordan."
I watch this scene over and over and am simply amazed at the camera work!

Frank had the style but the only reason he started singing is because he saw bing perform
Annette Elliott-Dunn Without Bing, there wouldn't have been a Sinatra.
@@scottcarroll9201seven years later I see your comment. How lovely and how true. X
I miss the road pictures! This song pure gold never fails to put a smile on my face.
To hear Bing talk is music itself. Marvellous!

;)
cool curve he does w/ his voice entering the second verse...
i love how everyone in the past dressed so well no matter the country

I totally dig this groove!!!!
Bing was the greatest ❤
Right you are! Bing is good for every mood and every day. ;)
Could watch the full movie again and again. "Do it some more do it it some more" 😂😁
"I can't talk to you anymore - Here Comes Mr. Jordan!" *PLUG!*
Except that HERE COMES MR. JORDAN was from another studio.

was actually looking for a different song by bing crosby ('ho hum!') but this is pretty damn good
This is one of my favorite Bing songs. Thanks for posting!
Love this.
ThePattycake1313 There is definitely a jab at authority in this song.
Such wonderful memories watching this movie

The most Ho-Hum video ever.
Heck yea! Jazz harp! ;)
1:27 ♥️
As chosen by the one and only Danny Baker - splendid :)
❤
Bob Hope was way before my time, but I still think he was funny.

Accidentally sang 'There's nothing quite as grotesque as a man in a vest' instead of 'at a desk', oh well ho hum.
Family guy sucks so much .....
