The new updates so good! Just some tips: turn on keyboard folding (knob H) while in chromatic mode. That way you have access to all 16 trigs with your chops. If you set up multiple chops like 32 or more you can just hit the up or right arrow (I forgot) to turn the page for the next set of chops. Also hit SRC twice to see the waveform with all the chop slice points as you record it into the sequencer. Messing with the length of the chops is fun too. I like to change it to 2 instead of 1 that way the chops play longer. Oh and you gotta mess with the SRR update hit FLTR twice and knob D controls sample rate reduction. Sounds so nice!
The Digitakt is an absolute beast now with the new updates. Probably my favourite sampler ever - there's just something about it. Insanely fun bit of kit.
I just got one of these. Went out and found a really good deal less than week after this update dropped… was like maybe its time to just splurge and get one. I like how you can hold a button like LFO or AMP and hit yes and it just randomizes a bunch of stuff. You can wind up with some interesting results.
perfect demo of how on elektron machines you can trip and fall on a fire beat just like that. and the button design allows you to tap dance around it quick. for all their quirkiness, they are well thought out machines. kind of like the prophet 10. you can twist a few knobs and pretty much no matter what, it's going to make the hair on your neck stand up. only thing, if you don't play an elektron for a little bit, you have to remember how to get around on it again.
Man, I understand the downsides when you compare it to the MPC but I do love the sound / capabilities of this machine. Great video Ave, thanks for sharing this with us.
I hear conflicting opinions about Digitakt's workflow. Some people seem to love it. Others think that Elektron's unique ways of doing things take a lot to get used to.
The Digitakt is super straightforward to use. When people refer to 'The Elektron Workflow' in a cautionary way, they're usually referring to the Octatrak which is a different beast and definitely intimidating
Really depends on the implementation. I will take mechanical Elektron keys over MPC Live 2 pads any day of the week. Also editing trig locks/parameters on mechanical keys is infinitely more satisfying than on gummy pads, and that kind of editing is bread and butter of Elektron workflow.
I got the Syntakt not too long ago, I must say it's blown my expectations out of the water with how awesome the workflow is. Being that this operates just like it, I'm considering getting it. I already have an MPC One though, so I'm not sure if the overlap is too much for practicality but we will see. Do you think someone should get this if someone already has the MPC One?
I’ve had my MPC One for a couple years and just copped a digitakt yesterday lmao bc I need more hands on control of my drums and for crazier sample mangling and MPC will just handle the melodies. The MPC groove is beautiful but fitting the drums to a sequence is annoying. In your situation I would love to pair the syntakt w/ the digi, I’ve seen a lot of ppl use that combo and rave about it
Definitely not too much overlap between MPC One and Digitakt, they are very different machines. To be perfectly honest, if you're already rocking the Syntakt I think you may wind up pairing it with the Digitakt and getting rid of the MPC One
I have the Akai force which is geared more to the production side and a large SSD inside for 500GB of samples, I'm really intrigued by the digitakts sequencer/trigs/lfo workflow as I have the digitone and syntakt already. The only thing that puts me off is lack of HD space.
@@dezem7 how do you like the Digitone VS Syntakt? I already have Syntakt was considering Digi but again...the concern of unnecessary overlap was an issue for the price point. Is their a lot of overlap?
Those pads remind me of the ones on my SP1200 I agree you have to make every sample because of lack of sample space you gotta make it count I think just makes you more creative .
I'm glad I kept my Digitakt even after getting an MPC One and Force. There's something about its form factor and DAWless capabilities that keep it as a must-have for me. If it could sample in stereo I might not have even picked up the AKAI's. Anyway, this is a very good update, late as it is.
I have the force with a big HD, syntakt and digitone keys... I keep looking at the Digitakt now for its trig and sequence creativity that's a little more hands on with some happy accidents with lfos.
That conditional probability aspect is interesting. (I could definitely see the benefits of that being controlled via midi along with other parameters).
One question, what happens when you pipe a MPD 226 or something into the midi in? Even a Keystep or something… is velocity an option at that point? Because this fairly new update would be dope at that point. Correction, more dope. Not just for finger drumming, but also for sampled keys and what not.
I used to hate making Hip Hop on the Digitakt, now I only hate it slightly less. Still not ideal, unless it's all you have. It's excellent for house and techno though. The timestretching was sorely needed, and messing with the two LFO's is super fun.
@@ILLUDIUM_Q_36 I would also love an improved sound/sample manager, 16 tracks, real time chopping, and larger internal storage, or at least SSD options (but ofc that's impossible). A Digitakt MKII could be an MPC killer.
@@bournedevinesupreme yes it could. And the above mentioned, is why I didn't buy it when it first came out. It took me 4 years before I decided to breakdown and get it. I bought it used but it was practically new with the film still n the screen. For around $530 shipped
I use mine with a launchpad pro mk3 and a keystep37 and it's perfect. Only major letdown left is lack of pitchbend, modwheel, and aftertouch passthrough (and of course storage space and mono but those I can work around)
After the last update ive been sold im get one . What was holding me back was the lack of time stretch and the way it sliced/ chopped samples. I still dont really like HOW the octatrack slice samples. Wit all these new features it seems like they might drop a digitakt MK2..either way I liked you demo and appreciate it..I say that I had the same feeling just watching the new update like 😳🤯😎✊🏾. TRUST just as impressed as you was ..I was as well.
It's a fantastic update, but not being able to adjust split points kills it a bit. They just don't want to eat into Octatrack sales too much, so it kinda makes sense.
Its kinda like Sp404xx but each sample “track”/“pad” gets its own dedicated fx insert processor/engine. I’d like one, ive always liked processing each hit but keeping my options open, not burning/rendering the sample.
Guess who is advertising their drum plugin again, after they said they would stop selling it after they reached a certain amount of sales? You were right about UA being a shady company.
Best sampler bar none. Absolutely LOVE mine and tgese latest updates just keep building on its power and functionality. As for velocity etc.... just connect your favorite controller!! Why? Because the digi can ALSO sequence 8 separate midi trracks! For a hotel setup my monogue is both being mide synced to the Digi (bomber sync) AND it controls 16 tracks just by changing its midi channel (on the monologue). Replace the monologue with any pad controller of your choice. Its amazing. Get one!
As far as I know there is no way to set start and ent points to the slices and that's just super annoying. Like I appreciate the 1.5 update A LOT I think it made the digitakt 3x better but like come on... silicing without being able to set start and end points is kinda dumb
You got me laughing my ass off watching this. The Digitakt is impressive had one but wanted to try the 1010Music Blackbox Studio so got rid of it. This new update reminding me of stuff from TE’s OP-Z except the Digitakt built like a TANK and the OP-Z prone to BENDING cause made of what its made of.
something bout elektron sounds too tinny to me and i have model s love it but there is much to be desired quality wise compared to the live but elektrons are fun
This sampler fails on the buttons, I really always wished this machine had pads similar to an electribe 2 or novation Cicuit rhythm, with not so little space between them, easy to create a wrong hit on these noisy buttons. The only perfect machine for fingerdrumming is the elektron Rytm, the rest of the elektrons are not. Araab muzik would break his nails to be a live drummer.
Menu diving isn't so bad on the Digitakt or the MPC ONE imo.... I couldn't access the Digitakt on workflow. As I'm still getting used to it. Honestly think speed wise the Digitakt is faster due the all the buttons have only one primary & secondary function. Not to metion the Digitakt has the volume knob on the top of the unit (like the old MPCs & MPC Live 2).
The new updates so good! Just some tips: turn on keyboard folding (knob H) while in chromatic mode. That way you have access to all 16 trigs with your chops. I like Elektron for its sound, flexibility and form factor. My MPC Live is just so good at this it is hard to find real competition.
so you can slice now? NICE! this box keeps getting better and better
Just in time, I was looking into this with the update. Thanks Ave!
Hope you enjoy it!
the power is in that yummy sequencer
My MPC hasn’t been touched since the Digitakt update. It’s so damn fast and fun I just love it. Elektron rules

Older Elektron gear maybe. i picked up the Digitakt workflow pretty quick when I had it. 8 tracks for samples and 8 MIDI tracks

mannn i wish it didnt turn the samples mono but this still hitting hard af. Would love to see a video of you combining this and the mpc live 2
helps with that classic sound
I dont mind at all personally because i usually want my samples in mono anyway but its definitely important to know about before you buy
Ima try do the same with my digitone they need a DN update
You mean sample chopping? I thought the digitone was a fm synth
