Regarding poaching - we can spread the word, that elephants can survive with one tusk and one can be taken (if we cannot stop poachers as its legal in some countries still) without killing an elephant. "Lord Ganesha" has one tusk for reference.
I love hearing about people making an effort to protect elephants! From what I understand, they are intelligent and just plain loving creatures if left alone! And they deserve all the help they can get! I cannot stand poachers! They deserve all the punishment THEY can get!
I remember there were marjong made from elephant tusk, it was some very expensive products. Can you imagine how many elephants were killed for making a set of 144 pieces of marjong? 😱 Nowadays its impossible to find a set. In the 80's i had used elephant tusk chopsticks. I did not know it was very cruel. And now of course i know.
An elephant is any animal belonging to the family Elephantidae within the order Proboscidea, there are five known genera of elephants: Primelephas (Four-Tusked Elephants), Loxodonta (African Elephants), Palaeoloxodon (Straight-Tusked Elephants), Elephas (Asian Elephants), and Mammuthus (Mammoths), out of all these genera only Loxodonta and Elephas are extant, whilst all the other three genera have gone extinct, additionally while african elephants are one of the most basal elephants, asian elephants are actually more closely related to mammoths than to african elephants, this also makes sense since proboscideans all originated in Africa, proboscideans also belong to the great superorder Afrotheria, which also includes the aardvark, hyraxes, elephant shrews, tenrecs, otter shrews, and golden moles.

Great suggestion - we'll add it to our list! If you're also a fan of apes, you may like our video next week about orangutans.
