    Using the 3rd value for A over middle and double C. Nice trick, less resistance. Nice sounding horn!

    That's a really hard question to answer. Go to Mouthpiece Express and get a size comparison chart. Find the Schilke that is roughly the same size diameter as the piece you are currently playing.

    Usually the MT Vernon Mpcs have a softer edge on the inside of the rim.
    Could be wear or it could be the way they were made back them but everyone thinks they feel great on the chops!
    Steve

  • @HornTrader
    @HornTrader  11 років тому

    My HT 3CS 28 is a rim that was copied from a Mt Vernon 3C that belonged to Arturo Sandoval. Then the Cup was made a tad shallower (.017) but also a bit more room on the sides near the bottom of the cup. The bite is soft like a worn Mt V 3C The contour is more straight to the shallower cup .The Back bore has a 28 hole but is a straight taper #1 reamer. Medium tight with brilliance. I just settled on the contour of the blank. I should have my initial order of 2 dozen in by the end of this week.

    • @HornTrader

      Misty Hackler I like the Selmer Chorus 80J Unfortunately they are no longer made. I have a Schilke B3L that just came in that I’m in awe.
      I like large bores with just a little resistance to blow against. Of course, tone is a huge factor.

    Masterful playing, as in every one of your Videos....Please, could you adress / tell / the notes or name / term / of the wonderful colourful sounding jazz lick/ cadenza / you played at 3:22 - 3:35 ? With naming the notes that it consists of ? And do you recommend a certain book of such things like (you are using much in your videos) things for a beginning jazz player - things that call "jazz, jazz" ?Thanks in advance...

    Thanks so much for such a great demo video of the new Schilke HD horns! I just ordered a like new S32HD from Austin Custom Brass and I'm really stoked to play it. My dad worked at Schilke for almost 30 years so I always knew I'd come back home to Schilke. I know it turned out that the horn in this video is actually an S22HD, would you say there's a huge difference in the blow between the two HD Bb models? I know there is only .003" difference in bore size between the two. Thanks so much!

    Why turn the trumpet towards the camera when you're testing the compression. I would like to know how you are doing that.

    • @HornTrader
      @HornTrader  3 роки тому

      I do that so the viewer can hear the thunk of the compression. To make that sound extend the 3rd slide all the way and then depress the 3rd valve. Then let the valve come up and pull the slide back and then depress the 3rd valve ......... You should get a “thunk” sound if the compression is any good

    I also have a schilke S22HD and agree that it plays well. BUT I want everone in the world to know that the leadpipe is already rusting in less than a few months, no more value as a trade-in. Schilke has a LIFETIME garantee, unfortuatly its not worth the paper its written on. Both the importer in Germany and Schilke US have not come across on a repair. You can compare it to the VW scandal. It does play the high notes very well but as soon as I can I`ll go to a diffrent brand that I can trust, never again schilke

      +George Hernandez How disappointing. What has the retailer said regarding your complaint? I had a similar issue with a King many years ago (though it took more than a few months). I now use a silk leadpipe swab after every playing session to keep the leadpipe dry.

      I'm sure Schilke would repair it at their cost. Have you contacted Andrew Nauman @ Schilke? I have found him to be very fair.
      BTW brass does not rust.

      +Steven Uttley I never heard of a silk leadpipe swab but I`ll look it up in Amazon and order one if I find it. Thank You.

      +HornTrader Thank You for your answer. I`ll drop him a line, I`m more disapointed in the the German importer, if nothing else I`ll take it back to him and try and trade it in on a Bach Artisien, too bad the price went up $1000. this last year. I should have gotten it last year.

      George Hernandez Mine's made by Steiner. Other makes exist. Worth checking on ebay also. Keeping the leadpipe dry and clean is critical to the sound of any decent horn.
