I'm sorry to hear this! your situation is very common. the golden visa is fraught with problems and money grabs by lawyers. I have heard things are rolling again. However, It's so much better to go the D7 route. Golden Visa is on its way to be abolished as of Sept. 2023.

Thanks much for sharing your story. 18 months is very a realistic number. At least your lawyer was honest on that. But he could have been honest with you about this before starting the process. The SEF was always slow back then. Some clips in youtube reporting people in 2014-2015 had to wait years to get their residence cards. Wishing you all the best in the beautiful island Madeira....
Thank you for your kind words. This is very sad to hear. For us the Golden Visa changes that happened in January of this year not being reflected on the website is our most major concern as there is no date being given for this important first step of successfully being able to submit the visa application. However we will not give up and we are very much looking forward to returning in August for our 3 months 💚💙
Ohhh such a bad news… I saw on your face a huge disappointment… but don’t worry, stay resilient! You will do for sure , you will have your dream house and your new life soon ! I also had many troubles with my house building in Calheta, the work was suspended , I had to do a new projects etc etc. but finally all turns to positive. I wish you all the best and stay strong ! 💪
I’m really sorry to hear that. I hope things get sorted out for you much sooner than later. I also had to leave Madeira recently and returned to the states. Missing the island so much already. I am beginning the visa process myself. Not a Golden Visa, but the D7. From the sounds of it, the SEF situation has thrown a wrench into all residency visas. Dang!! Thanks so much for the information!!
Hi James! Thank you for your comment and sharing where you are in your move to magical Maderia. I understand that because you start the D7 visa process in the country where you are from the process is easier and quicker than the Golden Visa. All the best and we hope you get back to Madeira soon 💚
Been going through so many websites and videos from Samantha North promoting investment options for the Golden Visa. Then saw your video and made me rethink about starting the process. *LEGENDS* Thank you for taking the time to share your nasty experience, and trust it will help many others in avoiding having to bare the emotional and mental stress of the process. Would love to see a video of the "Its Finally Done Moment" to show the "fruits of your labor". Wishing you both all the best, and holding thumbs..... Both Champions.
Hello Blaine! Thanks so much for your support for our videos and our experience. Do keep watching as we most definitely will share a video of when we do finally have our visa! We still have 3 weeks before we can return to Madeira for our next 3 month stay and we should have heard more from SEF by then. It will all be worth it! 💚💙
The delay already existed when you made the investment. Your lawyer and agent simply did not tell you. Nomad capitalist just did a survey. Some guys invested in 2019 but are still waiting for the biomedical appointment.
Nomad Capitalist also says it could take 18-24 months to get the Visa. Could this have tax implications if you sell up as a non-tax resident before you get your Visa?
What a bombshell! I’d be absolutely gutted. So now what? Have you considered a D7 Visa? You did briefly mention it in part 1. I don’t know if all Visa applications are stuffed up by SEF, but is that D7 option no good for you?
Thank you so much for sharing this information and your journey. So helpful and interesting. We would love to hear more about the steps you took to purchase a house that needed renovations. Do you have any recommendations about finding a lawyer, etc.? I will cross my fingers that the administrative issues are quickly resolved for you!
Hi Michelle! You are welcome, thank you and thank you for watching. One of our next videos will be the steps we took to buy our house and some of the things to be aware of. Do look out for it 😊 Our lawyer was recommended to us and that is a good way to find someone you can trust however I think speaking to 2 or 3 lawyers before engaging someone is something I would recommend.
My advice, based on living on Madeira for 12 years, is to just go with the flow. Getting used to the bureaucracy and going from one office to another is just how it is. Keep smiling and it will eventually turn out ok
prior to January, i heard it was a 6-week -10 week process. we will be going through this soon. we are doing the residential purchase method. hopefully, it will be easier.
do you mind sharing how much you need to invest (purchase of property + rehab cost) to qualify for GV. I know you need to spend at least $350k plus rehab but I can't find anything stating exactly the total needed? I might be priced out of the GV....
Hi guys 👋 thanks very much for sharing 🙏🙏🙏, u have really given us insight as to what seems to be a rather cumbersome process ( & unnecessarily expensive!) The Portuguese authorities certainly appear to be difficult & extremely unsympathetic! After hearing about many other nightmare stories, Portugal is definitely off our shortlist, we will relocate to a place that at least attempts to treat investors better. Once again tx , all the best 🥂
Hello and thanks for watching! All the best for your move. We would still choose Madeira as it is a magical place and we fell in love with it. "Keep going… difficult roads can lead to beautiful destinations". 💙 💚
@@ourbrightjourney Hi there thats awesome that u have found the place for you 👍. Madeira certainly looks awesome! We are currently exploring/ researching Mauritius 🇲🇺 ... I must admit that the forward trajectory mindset of their Economic Development Board along with ZERO Capital Gains Tax ( incl of all world wide assets) , zero Withholding tax on dividends etc + harmonious flat tax rate of 15% for VAT , Personal Income, Corporate Tax is rather tempting us to formally tax-emigrate here! 😃🔝🌊🏝🐬🥂
Hi again! Oh yes we had an amazing holiday in Mauritius, it is beautiful and it sounds like you may have found your place! Where are you guys from? 🙏☀️🏝
It's pretty risky buying before any visa secured, I guess that's the way. I heard you can get the golden visa for 280k property purchase on the mainland
Yes, that’s right you have to invest before you can apply for the Golden Visa. I have also read about then property investment option for €280000 if the property meets certain criteria. However at the moment there’s a lot of unanswered questions for Golden Visa investors.
Hi guys, thanks so much for all the info you are willing to share. We were in Madeira in May scouting out the place and getting started on finding a home etc. Just wanted to hear your thoughts on if you had it all to do over, would you have gone for the D7 visa. Also, would you know if one were to apply for the D7 and rent/lease for 6/12 months, are you then able to apply for the Golden Visa if and when one found a place to buy? Again, we are just preparing to move over and given the current state of affairs, we were thinking what would be the better of the two visas to apply for. All the best to you both!!
Hello! Thank you for watching. It is a good question and the one thing we would have done differently is to speak to several different lawyers whereas we just engaged Newco because they helped us with our house purchase. In your situation I would reach out to a few different lawyers to find out as much information as you can before making your choice. As the D7 process starts in the country where you live, our understanding is that the D7 visas are currently being processed and will be easier and quicker to get with SEF as it is right now. Even now our lawyer can not give us a clear answer as to when the Golden Visa website situation will be resolved. The Golden Visa has benefits over the D7 and was favoured by us for several reasons including you don’t have to reapply after a couple of years however these benefits are no good to us if we can’t even submit our application. In answer to your other question, if you apply for a D7 our understanding is that you cannot then apply for the Golden Visa. Our lawyer told us that according to Madeira Immigration Services you can't apply for the Golden Visa and a D7 Visa simultaneously. This understanding is based on the fact that they are two visas whose accession precludes the access to another visa. Again, the best advice we can give is to speak to several lawyers and see what information and advice they can give you. All the best in your move!
Hi and thanks for asking. Our lawyer advised us against applying for the D7. He says “- The Golden Visa and D7 visa are conflicting, you can't have both or run for both.” Have you seen our update on the visa? ua-cam.com/video/drwh2z2PAyY/v-deo.html

Hello I hope that you managed to get everything . Get careful when exchanging money to buy the house you only can take a certain amount every day to do exchange . It was wise to use attorneys for both the Golden Visa and the real estate purchase. It would probably be even worse it you tried to do everything on your own. Brexit really complicated everything!
Very few people realise the 90/180 applies to everyone in the EU too, always did. It was never enforced mostly because of the open borders within the schengen ie lack of passport stamp. Technically when you stated that before Brexit you could have gone to Portugal and stayed as long as you wanted that was wrong after 90 days you would have had a legal requirement to register, The fact they could prove when you arrived ment it never happened. So you and other get away with it. Take my example As a French resident I could go to Portugal and as you say stay for as long as I like, In fact I spent 4 months last year in Spain, Because again like everyone else in the EU, they could not prove when I arrived., So not technically correct to have a residency in one EU county but live in another, it's easy to do.
