Lexus LC500 GSF and RCF | The End of the V8?

- Опубліковано 30 тра 2024
- We follow up on our reviews of the Lexus LC500, GS F, IS500, and GSF with a celebration of what could be Toyota's last use of the naturally aspirated V8. We dive into each car covering just a taste of what it is like to drive and operate. There are better performing Luxury cars from BMW, Audi, and Mercedes, but, the Lexus products are unique enough they may become a cult classic.

Since there's more comments about the rev-limiter than there is about the video let me clarify. It has one of the fastest rev limiters we've ever heard and since this is a media car, we used it to highlight how it sounds amazing from the exhaust reverberation. It's not your car so calm down, the cars took a beating and kept on going, enjoy.
I know that this engine is basically built for the purpose of withstanding abuse. It's designed to handle a lot of rev limiter action, and you did an excellent job showcasing that here. Even though I've never driven these cars, I maintain an infatuation with them for precisely the reasons you explained; they're driver's machines, built to evoke a response within the user. They sound incredible, handle well, feature a big honking V8, and are going to last hundreds of thousands of miles without breaking a sweat as long as basic maintenance isn't utterly neglected. I really, really hope to one day own one (or several) of these cars before they're gone. The 10th anniversary editions are absolutely gorgeous btw.
Lol! I replied to some of those comments....but if they don’t get it...then they are kinda watching for the wrong reasons...must be when you ripped your shirt off.
It certainly took some talent to make a more irritating sound than designed-in exhaust overrun pops. Removed all the smoothness & flow of acceleration through the gears. It was akin to a shakespearean soliloquy by an actor with a stutter.
@@DiscoFang A stutter was precisely what that RC-F sounded like. Yuck, that's an unholy sound.
No excuse for ruining the aural pleasure of the film. It made what should have been a great film hard to watch.
Who would have thought Lexus would still be hanging onto the NA V8. Will be a sad day to see it go 😢
Evidently, regulations now come at the very real cost of being reliable in the long term
Lexus/Toyota holds on to everything. There reliability has a lot to do with using the same engines and transmission forever. Just look at the new 2021 IS. Same old same old. They make great cars/suv but they have never been innovative company. The European on the other had cram all types on new tech in there cars/suv and the price to pay is poor reliability!!
@I Like Watching Anime yeah you're right, the new tundra is going to have a turbo v6.
Eat Jat Never said there was a reliability issue just Lexus/Toyota lack innovative!!! Nothing on your LX470 was that innovativing in 04. Lexus/Toyota is a boring car company but that’s where most of the market is. Enthusiasts are a small segment and they know this
@@v60polestar88 never been innovative? Have you ever heard of the prius??? Sure not a car lovers dream, but it was revolutionary. Look at all the hybrids made since then. Was the Tesla of its day. Toyota just doesn't come out with shite that's "innovative" they wait till its perfect/going to hold up, THEN they release.
I've been searching the internet for weeks for used LC's after eyeing it for years and watching every single video I can. Originally thought it would be something I couldn't justify until forever but I think I'm finally ready to pull the trigger and your videos have definitely helped.
Update: Joined the owners club!
@Rubedo Alaberti Yup, it's important to know what you're getting into. Already looked into future maintenance & repairs as well. It's still a little early in the lifespan but maintenance seems to be pretty reasonable. Although, tires will be a little more than I'm used to with my IS 350
I love my modified LC
@@MikeForsythe what did you do to it?
@@chookwooma have a couple grand in the back account for when the engine needs servicing. That's if you don't DIY
Gray's, man! I'm jealous, such a beautiful car
The sound of the rev limiter in the LC500 must be one of my favourite car noises ever. Goosebumps every time I hear it.
Yes
i wanted to cry, my brain was screaming SHIFT!!!
Idiotic driving. Ruined the whole film.
This guy cannot shift
You really have a hard time hiding your love for these cars don’t you?😯🤗
Yeah I thought the same. Until I started looking at their two most expensive suv products the LX and GX and saw how you can buy a 90k suv with early 2000s seats. No thanks.
@@migueralliart I think the SUVs have a similar appeal to many people, and thus a cult following. The GX in particular has a huge community for off-roading and such. Just look for GXOR.
This video is an advertisement.
He did say in a previous video he was looking into buying a GSF.
Orlando Vega that a Stupid comment clearly the LX and GX need to be replaced. Why even bring it up
When Lexus revealed this new identity, fascias etc, I wasn't a big fan, but now, compared to others and especially german brands, those 3 cars are like go to the dealer, buy yourself a concept car and stick a plate on it. Remember Lexus in the 90's ? Fade copy of a Benz ? Not anymore boys
I feel like I am the only one who liked Lexus's current design language from when it came out till today.
I must say i always respect designs more that dare to make something new, even if i dont like it.
I've loved the new Lexus design language so much.
And now bmw with their 3 and 5 series look like a gs. How times have changed.
@@Abesta83 I used to work at a Bmw dealership, when there were e60's, e90's, Minis R50's and 60's, and we had a little party for the new 5 series F10 at that time. I really liked the brand back then. But now, I just can't stand it. Awful ..
When you think it's not even possible to raise the quality of the content anymore Mr Goose just kicks it into the next gear!
I know, the cinematography just gets better and better
Top tier no doubt
Guess you could say it's the.....
Top Gear.
🚪🚶🏽♂️
Too soon junior!
You are really pushing me to buy an rcf 🤷🏼♂️
That's the most accurate statement
Its funny, when Lexus was trying, everyone hated on it. Now when lexus has given up, everyone wants one. So sad to see.
I actually still haven’t seen the love. Only Mark and maybe Matt Moran....lol but he loves all cars, bless his heart! 🤣
@rvidal0001 that's not even a logical reason. No one every complained about the price or the reliability. They last for ever and new vs new Lexus is cheaper
Always happens. Happened with the ISF and LFA.
I recently had the RC F to test, and that engine is just a delight, just and absolute freaking joy. Also, your cinematography was killer in this video!
agree
I appreciate that man
@Nissan370Z Glass I live in a city. Not a shithole at all. I love it.
What does he mean by “fake engine noise” on 18:28 ?
I've always been a Top Gear fan (May, Hammond, and Clarkson) and ever since they moved to Amazon and slowed down production, I've been looking for something of their caliber.. These guys.... these guys are it! Thank you, savagegeese for consistently solid and creative content!
Chase Porter TBH, goose is a bit different. Much more useful for us actual consumers. For equally great content that has some of the lighter tone of TG, check out the Throttle House if you haven’t already!
Top Gear has never been about reviewing cars, it's a entertainment show about cars. I never took their reviews seriously, it's more of their personal take than objectively reviewing cars.
Indeed but if not already done so Check out carfection and petrolicous
Chase porter you are an intelligent guy
They are completely different to me ( also their budget obviously) . Both are great in their own way. I do find the old Top Gear more entertaining though.
The LC-500 is my favorite modern car. It reminds me of the days when the japanese cars were original and special like the Supra and the Mazda RX7. They aren't perfect cars, but definitely they are unique, beautiful, honest and it gets really in the emotional side.
...and the 240Z.
I feel like the LC is more in spec with the 300zx and nsx. The interior makes you feel open and free, as well as it wanting to make you as comfortable as possible. Everything is placed in a spot that your hand naturally goes too. Your leg has that spot it just naturally rests on the trans tunnel and their padded to add comfort. The outside is styled timelessly and something different from all other cars. The engine is designed to be a centerpiece to go on everything with how they were stylized. Both cars everything was made to just be nice.
If I'm spending that much, I want AWD, so I'd be buying a 911 C4S if I was in that budgetary market.
OMGWTFLOL would love a Cayman GT4 myself.
@@dekhunter148 Yes, the car feels almost handmade specifically for you. It captures the feeling of something special. They are nothing like some japanese brands that makes their cars as generic as they can be, a reskinned Z4 with cheap plastic and fake vents all over the place.
Would love to buy a pre-owned one in the future, I don't really care about it might be slower compared to other cars in the same price range. It's already fast enough.

I bet the depreciation won’t be that great.. just look at the ISF

You’re right, this is not a typical review.
This is art, this is poetry, this a philosophical exploration of what it means to drive and appreciate a car.
This is like watching an athlete at the peak of their performance. SG, thank you for raising the bar yet again.
I LOVE my RC-F and will never sell it. V8 roar and rumble with a touch of elegance = perfection. 👌
Good decision! Cherish it!
Gentleman's sports car is what I call 'em.
Luv the engine and lexus luxury. Legendary reliability aswell
I too love my LC and will never sell it :)
Same here. RCF ftw
The LC500 is my dream, love the review you did of it.
Would you take it over a C8 Z06?
The GS F is the most balanced car I've ever driven.
How so?
@@grandmastagrimm8773 I’ve had mine for 3 months now. I agree with him. Brakes are excellent, handling excellent. Doesn’t beat you up over poor pavement and on long drive. Amazing engine and the sound it makes is music to my ears every time I go above 3600rpm. Just nothing like it these days. It blends Luxury and just the right amount of performance.

These things are going to be collector’s items in the future. Last of the NA V8s.
Soon when all V8s are not produced and you have one, itll be like Mad max" ahh..last of the V8 interceptors" thing when you say its a V8.
Kick it in the guts...
Your videos are ALMOST as high quality as the Lexus cars themselves !!!! And that’s saying a TON
Driving one day last summer I heard the LC 500 before I saw it. It sounded like phone books being shredded in a wood chipper. I looked in the distance and sure enough it was unmistakably an LC. Nothing else on the road looks like it or sounds like it. It's a stunning car inside and out. I envy anyone that is able to own one of these.
I've watched this video like 10x's already. It never gets old. Thanks for making it.
I have heard in person the intake noises of this engine... it is the second best thing after the intake noises of the e46 m3.. I am a sucker for intake noises
The exhaust note is even better once an aftermarket cat back is installed, deleting the second cats and resonator. Check my videos for a few clips.
Genuinely some of the best cars we’ve tested too. That LC500 sucks on paper, but it is hands down one of the most enjoyable cars I have ever driven.
More and more we will watch the car market go sterile 😢 Those V8s sound so good
@@NeoHCgbz getting worse is not evolving, it's devolving.
The current generation doesn't care about knowing their car as long as they go down the road (and it's not so easy to work on these things anymore, the newer they get). I feel, that the future is autonomous electric cars that people just sleep in until they reach their destination, or they drone into their smartphone until they get there.
The ability to do auto repair will go to people who can write code and are certified to replace modules/"body shops" for body damage. Grey and white amorphous blobs rolling down protected, autonomous-only freeways.
@@blues03 The current generation has poor family received education. If few care about being independent and competent, then you create a society of morons. That's a dystopia.

The production quality when Mr. Goose makes a video featuring vehicles he's actually interested in is phenomenal.
That V8 redline gives me goose bumps.
A lot of other car reviewers miss the point of these cars and get hung up on the 0 to 60 times and all the specs. Its great to see you guys understand what Lexus was trying to do here. I love the Lexus performance brand and you guys did an amazing job of capturing what makes these cars special. Thank you! Keep up the great work
Your RCF review helped convince me to buy one. Definitely happy with that purchase.
Jealous! But congratulations!
Same with my GSF. Cause of this video.
To my boomer automotive brothers and sisters don't be sad that we are nearing our golden years. Be happy that we lived through the ICE era and were able to own powerful, beautiful, and great sounding cars. I pitty the future generations and their self driving, electric, sensory deprivation chambers.
Its why you raise your kids to make sure they learn how to drive a manual transmission car
@@iheartgs400 I hate kids so I'm good. But agreed.
Most people spend their driving time on a boring freeway commute, not zipping along a mountain road. If they turn that useless freeway slog into hours doing something more useful or entertaining, good for them.

And I fucking love e30 since I've been sitting in my dad's one for the first time over 12 years ago.
V8 is back !! And their going to keep using it for the next 10 years !!!
I don’t think you bounced off the rev limiter enough 🤣
that really annoyed the crap out of me.
Sounds beautiful! being an F owner we try not to but it happens with the paddle shifters from time to time, but driver could have done A LOT BETTER than that.

The LC500 is my dream car lol. Remember seeing the concept for it at an auto show a few years ago and loved it.
I got 2019 RCF from my manual 2015 WRX thanks to all your Lexus RCF, GSF and LC videos. Helped me really pick something more special.
The sound @ the v8 and the reliability is going to be sadly missed great review👍
Guy's, the in car footage of the LC was amazing!
These guys and Matt Farrah are probably the only two producing proper car reviews that really get it and not just regurgitate the same specs and dumb comparisons based on specs written on paper. Well done guys and keep it going.
Best motoring/Hot version/Video option.
I’d add Throttle House to that list. Not as technical but they have their own unique flare to each revue.
Been watching and enjoying your stuff for a few years now. I've always appreciated the hard work and great production values. You've steered me in the right direction more than once. Just finished this one and was blown away. Absolutely gorgeously shot.
Never seen a better car video. You guys Rock. Thank You!
Thanks, that is greatly appreciated
I love the RCF and GSF so much. I would definitely choose them over the m4, C63 (w205) and Audi RS products.
So why then do you have an M3 in your avatar?
@@AnontheGOAT I have an E90 (V8) M3. Which I love even more than those two Lexus’s. I mentioned the newer gen M/AMG/RS products which really don’t appeal to me at all compared to the RCF/GSF. After 2013 german cars kinda lost all appeal to me.
@@augustortiz why? Because they stop making N/A cars?
@@AnontheGOAT Yes having an N/A powerplant is definitely a factor but its not entirely the reason. For example; I test drove an F80 a few weeks ago with my mind set on "upgrading" and although it is vastly superior in almost every way to my E90, it just doesn't have that special something that makes me smile like a child in my M3. Same thing applies for the W204 C63 compared to a W205. Sure, the newer stuff might be superior mechanically but there's something of cars built in the early 2000's up to 2013 that the more modern counterparts just lack.Maybe its just more modern cars are too technologically complex, have too many safety systems and are more disconnected. Even the Audi RS products now feel more like appliances than actual sports cars (Compare the B7 and B8 RS4/5 to the newer ones). In my opinion the RCF and GSF are older cars that just happen to be released in 2017 onwards. Just like lets say a nismo 370z. That is what makes the RC and GS more appealing and cooler to me than the germans.
@@augustortiz pretty well put explanation. I’m a fan of German cars too. For me, it’s the fact that they just can never get to a reliable level like Japanese products. I’m at the point in my life where I don’t have time to wrench on them. I like to own my cars past the warranty. That’s why once I get my hands on a GS F, I’ll be saying goodbye beloved C6 Avant.
the savagegeese videos really do have great production value. so many camera angles, all such high definition too.

Brand new 2022 IS500F on the way. Lexus is keeping NA V8s alive, and thank god they are. Also, terrific review!
These engines sound too good to go away. I mean jeez, LISTEN to the noise that LC makes. It’s incredible.
Thank you for making such high quality and entertaining videos. I love what you do! You are hands down one of my favorite reviewers. Even if I’m not interested in the car your reviewing, I still watch cause you do such a great job!
A+ on the video quality. This is not a review, this is a visual automotive experience. Thank you for this.
I've seen your reviews for all these cars before and I still can't help but watch to the end. Great production value, great content, great job conveying your intent, and great job with the audio mixing, this is one of the few channels I can actually listen to for long periods of time without fatigue
Great review. Can't wait to see if they will come out with a LC500 "F" version... Big fan of the GS-F also. Perfect all-around performance sedan.
I had to stop the video 1/2 way just to drop a like. This was definitely one of the best @Savagegeese videos so far. Hopefully, as Toyota approaches this new era they still keep the enthusiast in mind. Keep up the solid content guys!
Thank You Mark , i bought an RCf based on your Vid.........better than i deserve !
Absolutely love the sound hitting the rev limiter. LC is easily at the top of my dream car list. Such a glorious machine all around
I’m going to miss the NA V8 dearly especially in one of my favorite cars like the RC F, GS F, and LC500
But the new twin turbo V8 that Toyota is working on for the next F performance model is something to look forward it’s definitely going to blow BMW M and Mercedes-AMG out of the park
it is a toyota engine. even the 2jz is not better than similar old m104 or the s50. till it is finished i would not believe in anythink like that. furthermore the s63, as well as the m177 are verry good engine. the main problem with german car is actually the eletronic around it. there is a stupid german regulation for biodegneration of the electronics in cars. that leads to a lot of problemes. all other car manufactores ignore it ...
p.s.
audi/vw engine are a different story
@@amduser86 that is very true but at least with Toyota and Lexus there's some simplicity that is there and the engines are built to last and even the electronics will hold up well over time
As much as I love BMW, Audi, and Mercedes, I would stick with Toyota and Lexus along with Honda and Acura
amduser86 what’s better than the 2JZ from the 90’s under 60k?

First I want to say is epic video of these Lexus cars not enough videos on these cars. TOO much BMW, BENZ and AUDI videos on UA-cam consuming us.
This are epic cars and I will one 2 out of the 3 of these one day. Thank you for making this video. I love those V8 engines, beautiful F seats and interior designs. I really hope Lexus continues with this F brand because it’s the only full line luxury high performance brand japan has to offer.
That LC is still is a class of its own. Interior is on Rolls Royce level for just 100k. Not sure how Lexus was able to do that. Lexus Engineers really seem to focus on driving emotion and driving feel more than being the best on numbers and paper.
As for the future I kno Lexus IS currently developing a twin turbo V8 for its future F products.
You can really feel when a reviewer is actually enjoying reviewing some of theseproducts which makes you understand what it's all about. Good job as always

Leave that dream up to Toyota Gazoo Racing.🇯🇵
This is an awesome video, I love all three and love hearing that NA V8 sound. Thanks for all your work.
You nailed it with the comment about how the Germans are all competing with each other on paper in the pursuit of higher numbers. That has led to the pig nose on the M3/M4, the loss of the V8 and its replacement by turbo 6 or turbo 4 hybrid (C63), and just an overall mad scramble to out do the others on the spec sheets. The Germans think that numbers alone should determine whether one should buy their cars, and that's not what these cars are about.
Toyota (and Akio Toyoda) understands that these cars and the reasons why people buy them are because of emotion. Not for logical reasons, not because it can lap the Nurburgring in 5 mins, and especially not because of efficiency and higher *numbers*.
Would you ever choose a turbo 4 popper 330i over a V6 IS350? Hell no, I don't care if the BMW is faster by 1 second in 0 - 60, it's a 4 banger. The same logic applies when you look at the M3, the upcoming C63 with its 4 cylinder achtungdisasterhybridengeselchaft engine, or the dead-as-a-limp-fish S4. They all excel at numbers, but miss the point of the car.
I have a severe case of the "need ta have its" for the RCF.... It's like Beast from X-men: not as badass as Wolverine, or as powerful as Phoenix, but still my favourite member of the team and cool in his own unique way. And in the end, still a super strong, indispensable hero who always comes through. I'd take one over any Mustang, Challenger/Charger, or Camaro, and most other sport luxury cars.
Man ever since I saw the RCF in person at the Washington Auto Show, I fell in love with it and still want one, esp cause of that V8. Having to wait till it comes down in price more in the future though.
A low mileage 2015 RCF will run you about 40k right now. Very reasonable
A 50k miles one goes for like 34k and then you can add on a rr racing supercharger to add 300 hp and some whine 👌
Congrats for pulling off this video... a labor of love!
The LC500 is just a design masterpiece. Absolutely spectacular-looking car.
Great video, great cars. I talked to Mark on IG before I pulled the trigger on a GS F and I'm glad I did, because I buy a LOT of cat liter and the RC F wasn't going to work for that. Thank you Mark! Even with all the claw marks and cat damage on my GS F I know it'll still be a highly sought after car because of the amazing NA V8!, just ignore the piss smell.
Mark, I know Jack is a big guy, but he should fit fine in the back seats of the GS F, with Frankenstein (my maine coon cat) and we can all social distance while getting some Arby's take out or LJ's, I guess whoever has the best coupons.....
Lol!! 🐈 🐈 🐱
Hope you can get an LFA to test someday as well
Amazing work. The segment at 15:26 where it's simply the LC500 induction noise and gear shifts was just magic, jaw on the floor stuff.

If i had money,, I'd buy a GS F anyday. Dream 🚘
Man me too! I'm planning on getting one in about 2 years or so. Can't wait!
You have fine taste.
I love my GS F and have NO regrets getting it. I wish you luck in getting one!!
Same here. I wish it had a manual but I would sacrifice that in this car
I hope you get one. I got mine 3 months ago and it’s been an amazing vehicle.
Thanks for making this video. It truly was wonderful to watch, easily made my week.
We must be kindred spirits. I have a '15 RC-F and '07 S2000. Your first review of the RC-F swayed me to purchasing it. Fantastic car with a dying breed of an engine - all the more reason to grab a reliable NA8 while we still can. Love them both! My wife's RX 350 on the other hand....
