  • We dig into the ultimate how-to project--building a shop! It’s an incredible transformation as Stacey and crew take a huge open warehouse and build it into the new GEARZ shop. Along the way you’ll pick up all kinds of tips and tricks that Stacey uses when he’s setting up a useable work space, no matter how large. With today’s economy, there are more and more people thinking about opening a shop, or converting their existing garage space into a more useable area. This show can help you do that. After that, Stacey shows how to stop rust dead in it’s tracks by using the simplest tool in the box… a paint brush!

+Seamus RBNW And Ryan just left too, so now they have a new guy and I'm just not digging him. Kevin and Ryan did a decent job, but took a long time to get up to speed. It definitely wasn't the same program after Stacey left. But I think the old days of Hot Rod garage, Shadetree Mechanic, and Trucks! are over. I like whatever the 4x4 show is called now, but it's really disjointed sometimes. It's clear Ian could do a lot more, but the lame block format with the annoying yapping during the breaks is boring.

Stacey always presents detailed and professional information. Listen to the detail about inspectors - concrete floor etc - too many people fail to take care of these details and disaster ensues. A shop. I once did all the metal work on a car body under a tarp and the rain pouring down my back from the sides of it.
The few times I had even a single car garage it was glorious! Being able to leave my tools out and not get rained on! Being able to take a break without having to pack everything away so nothing would get stolen (it's like there are people whose job it is to watch you like a hawk for that 2 minutes you leave a wrench out).
Yes. Glorious. Glory that does not exist any more unless I wanted to go live in the sticks where there is no work in our "Run like a company town" globalist shithole.

Sitting here watching this, and my dyi shop is maybe only 2ft wider than his paintbooth lol. But, I'd rather have a smaller shop due to the feelings of connectivity and not being overwhelmed. He stated the truth when he said "organization is key!", and take advantage of what space you have in an orderly fashion. I've honestly seen people with large shops that were so unorganized with shit laying anywhere and everywhere, that it took them longer to find the tool they needed than it did to use it on the job it was needed for in the first place. A small shop that's set up correctly is all most of us shade tree mechanics need.
    Well, me anyway.

This is cool and all, but not really "the ultimate DIY shop". Dozens of third party install techs, and a full production and moving crew kind of nudge you into that "pro" category. We're looking at hundreds of thousands of dollars and probably a thousand or two man hours, low end. Great insight regardless, but damn.
