- First part here of The Channon and Ball video show from around 1988. That week the duo talk about Super Leeds United and focus in particular on three games from the 1973-74 season.
Games Featured:
Dec 15th - Stamford Bridge - 40,768 - Chelsea 1-2 Leeds United - Jordan, Jones.
(Leeds secure the best start to a season record with 20 games undefeated. They went on to make it 29.)
Feb 23rd - Victoria Ground - 39,598 - Stoke City 3-2 Leeds United - Bremner, Clarke.
Apr 20th - Elland Road - 44,015 - Leeds United 3-2 Ipswich Town - Lorimer, Bremner, Clarke.

As people had said they had a brilliant team. One of the biggest disappointments was they never won the European cup but that night they were done out of it for some reason. They should of won more trophies but they will never be forgotten for what they achieved in that era.
Gray,Brenner,Giles all world class players,Clarke world class finisher.
Thanks for sharing! Two great players. Channing scored and CELEBRATED (rather than scowling) and Ball should be regarded in the same class as Pele, Best, etc.
The funny thing about the Eddie Grey goal was the player laying down watching the whole thing.

never too fond of Ball the player... Netzer DIFFERENT CLASS in '72, but Ball was a class man, always spoke highly of competitors, even the great 'slim Jim' Baxter who rubbished him... Ball never held a grudge.
He was probably jealous.

I wasn't old enough to have seen them play, but am told that Tony Kay and Dave McKay were better.
@@johnjames8644 being in another team making him better makes no sense at all. He was either great or not - no matter what team he played in. Just show anti Leeds bias.
I have read a few books on the subject and it's really startling just how good this Leeds side was by the standards of the day, and the fact it was a side mainly composed of home grown players, they could and should have won more trophies

You are right Peter but they should really have had 2/3 more they were unbelievably unlucky due to them being in numerous cup competitions and mainly with the same 12/13 players,imagine that happening nowadays Pete,no chance.
Liverpool won as much as Leeds in that ten year period mid 1960s to mid 1970s. Two titles, two FA Cups and a European trophy, as well as runners up in the league, cup and in Europe. And that wasn't even Liverpools peak. Liverpool got even better from 1976 and ruled Europe for a decade.
@@lyndoncmp5751 Leeds had an incredibly small team. They had around 18 players several of which were youth players. They were also cheated a number of times

Revie never forgave Bally for turning down Leeds when he left Blackpool for Everton. When Revie got the England job he ended Bally’s England career.

But the Anfield Kop applauded Leeds to a man when Leeds took the title away from Liverpool in 1969.
They were a really good side with a lot of individual talent, but let themselves down by being unashamedly dirty !. 🤷
