I'm considering this game a LOT now that is back on preorder; you said the high tide expansion is pretty good, so what about the guild hero pack? Do you believe more heroes are a "must" go or maybe the core game has already enought of them? Thanks for your awesome video once again, it gave me all the inside I wanted, cheers.
Great review! I think all of your points are very valid and that some little things could have taken this game to the next level. My biggest criticism is the rulebook, and as an extension to the section that you were referring to, the rally rules do not even mention that another hero can rally a downed hero as an action - this came up from an online forum. I think it is a common mistake with a lot of designers that they don't do blind playtesting and therefore don't pick up rule ambiguities etc. Having said that, this is their first game, so I have to give them credit for making a game that really stands out once you are comfortable with it. The main point, which I think you were eluding to, even if you don't quite get the rules right, or you miss the odd initiative track bonuses etc, it doesn't really matter as long as you have fun. Compared to a lot of other dungeon crawlers, this one gives a lot of interesting options (e.g. stepping up) and challenges (some fun objectives and things like the event deck) without being bogged down in lots of fiddly parts to the game and therefore is much easier to get to the table. Thank you for taking the time and putting all the effort into making this video. It has been a fun ride and hope to see more of it in the future (although I'm sure you have other games you need to play too!)
Thanks for following along! You know, on that part of the rule book I read, I meant to comment on something completely different, and edited it out, but then uploaded the WRONG version of this video! LOL. Mistakes! Oh well...you got the idea.
Hey Daniel. Thanks for your review. I love your channel and your honest opinion about games. I know you play solo, and with a game group, so maybe you can help me decide on this game. My game group is 5 players, do you think this game will be okay playing with 5? Or would the game play be too sluggish?
That's tough. I never play these kinds of games with 5 players, so I really have no idea. I usually max out at 3. I could see 5 players with any game having a lot of downtime. That said, the turns in this game are brisk, so maybe as long as people stay focused it'll work. But I have no idea how it scales to that player count.
Nice! Loved listening to this. How would this compare in theme/adventure to a more complex game like Middara? Mice and Mystics is one of my favs, but tbh I was turned off a bit by this games artwork, however it looks better in your vids than it did on the kickstarter website. How thematic would you say this game is? compared to M&M and middara? How much of an "adventure" feel do you get?
I like this more than Middara. Middara has WAY TOO MUCH reading for me. I love reading books, but not when I'm playing games. We've had multiple sessions with Middara during which we read more than we played. Huge problem, IMO. M&M has a good amount of reading, and maybe feels a bit more adventurous than BB, but it is also more scripted. BB's branching campaign system is unique to the others, and does a really good job of conveying the adventure. I like BB more than M&M and Middara.
@@TheDungeonDive Yeah, middara did seem fiddly. Do you think its way too much reading in terms of rules, story, flavor, or all of the above? Also, what do you like more about BB than M&M. I know for one, I'd love the AI boss system in M&M
@@Destroyaj Way too much reading in terms of narrative between the scenarios. Dozens of pages of text, way too much. The game itself is great. I think combat is more interesting in BB, and I like the deck of cool random events. I also like the branching campaign.
Thank you for the great review 👍🏻😀
Coming back with a new KS hopefully.

If I had to prioritize, I would prioritize more enemy variety.

@@tristanwhitley Yeah - it's too strict. Aftermath handles the building threat in a better way.
Daniel, you are not kind to my wallet! Guess I'm adding yet another game to my list :P
Just get another job! LOL.
