My brother just helped me change the battery and capacitor on my Phantasy Star 4 copy last night. He's teaching me how to solder and some basic stuff like that. This was the first RPG I ever beat. Zio is actually the main inspiration for one of the main villains in my superhero saga I've been writing.
Yeah for Sega Master System and Genesis JRPGs, the easiest way to get those is to buy the Sonic Ultimate Collection for the PS3 for $15. That collection has 49! games spread across the two systems, 7 of which are JRPGs for the Genesis and 2 of which are JRPGs for the Master System. It’s a great deal for retro JRPG fans and those games will keep you occupied for hours.
i saw a brand new, unopened copy of that at walmart not long ago, but i bought a different game instead, and when i came back for it, it was gone. i'm kicking myself for not just grabbing it when i had the chance.
No Dreamcast? :P Actually, the RPG I was going to recommend there is also on the cube (and it's an enhanced port). Skies of Arcadia. Playing as sky pirates, exploring the world. Fun stuff, check it out.
i love the dreamcast version, i still kick myself for getting rid of my dreamcast. traded in a nearly brand new dreamcast and a dozen games for like one ps2 game or something stupid like that.
Skies of Arcadia is my most-played GameCube games. I loved it so much that I wrote and printed out lists of things to do and collect for myself, and replayed it multiple times. Something unique about it is that airship combat.

Top 10's in a personal list can be really hard to decide on. I have to admit, after looking at these lineups, the PSP games jumped out to me as games I really want to play now, if I was to choose. You just can't lose with basically any of the titles you show. We gotta find a way to get you a copy of Trails in the Sky! Great video Erick!!
trails in the sky 1 and 2 are my favorite rpgs ever. i played them for the first time pretty recently and i haven't been so immersed with a story and characters since i was a kid, and even back then i'm not sure anything quite compared to trails in the sky. the crossbell games are nearly as amazing, but the the characters aren't quite as good. i don't think any characters will ever surpass estelle and joshua and the rest of the sky cast for me.
@@Jack_80 I tried playing 1 but there's so much reading. I just couldn't do it. And I'm an avid book reader. But when I sit down to play a game I'm expecting to play, not just read. That said I decided to watch a playthrough of it and been enjoying it much more that way.
@@Walamonga1313 i never minded text heavy rpgs as long as the story keeps me interested, and the story in these games is just amazing. there were a couple instances where you seemed to be reading for over an hour without a break or chance to save, which mildly annoyed me, but it was the lack of an opportunity to save that bothered me, not the reading, and it didn't happen very often. when you do get to the gameplay though, it's one of the best combat systems i've ever experienced in an rpg. i just wish you didn't have to beat the game to unlock the harder difficulties in part one, when you like to do everything like me, the game is nearly 100 hours long. in the later games on psp hard and nightmare or whatever are unlocked from the start. i'm so glad they added hard modes to these games, many rpgs like ff7 are largely ruined by being overly easy with no higher difficulty options.
PS1 - Not bad selection, but I feel it's missing Vandal Hearts 2, FFT and Breath Of Fire IV. PS2 - Hellyah, Suikoden, Valkyrie Profile, Radiata... my golden age of JRPG. It's just missing the best JRPG "SMT: Nocturne" to be perfect. Makai Kingdom had such a good cast and story that I feel tempted to include too, but it's not for everyone. PS4 - No P5R? Madness. Also Tales of Vesperia, Tales of Arise and Atelier Ryza are all better than Beseria to me. PSP - Your Lack of FFT and Tactics Ogre: LUCT was the most shocking. Also P2: Innocent Sin and P3. PSV - Funny, I can only remember P5G and a bunch of JRPG that was kinda forgotten before being ported to PC like Mary Skelter and Tokyo Xanadu. lol 3DS - I was not expecting Soul Hackers in this list... That's probably the most forgotten SMT in the 3ds. Missing Rune Factory 4, Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold (Damm that game was good) and Bravely Default. Xbox360 - As long there is Infinite Undiscovery (I would love a remaster ç.ç), NieR, Tales of Vesperia and Lost Odyssey I'm cool. These are the ones that together with Resonance of Fate made the console worthy to a JRPG player.

I recommend Faxanadu on the NES. it's a spin-off of the Dragon Slayer series that plays like a Metroidvania. Skies of Arcadia is one of the best on GameCube. My favorite games on Sega systems are: Phantasy Star II on Genesis, Shining the Holy Ark and Panzer Dragoon Saga on Saturn. If you can get English translations, Shining Force III. I get it why you would not care about the N64, when you mainly collect RPG games, but Ogrebattle 64 is phenomenal and its a bit of a shame you didn't even mentioning it.
When I was a kid (maybe 11?) I found a copy of Path of Radiance for the Gamecube FOR 2 DOLLARS at Goodwill. I knew Ike because of Smash Bros Brawl so I begged my mom for it and she refused. To this day (I'm 21 now) I still periodically update her about the price of that game. It typically goes for 150-300 dollars.
Hi there. Much respect from Bucharest, I love your channel. I look forward to your definitive tops for PS4 and Switch...or maybe make a top 20 for these 2 systems, I would love to see the mixed order(including ports, remakes and new releases). Keep up the lovely work that you are doing

Erick Sega RPG Collection Hack: Pick Up The Mega Drive/Collection. It comes with 50 games and most of the RPGs worth collecting are in it anyways such as Shining Force 1 and 2.
Final Fantasy VIII music in the background 😎👌🏻 EDIT: YOOOOOOO Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3 list! I just spent 40 hours on it for the past weeks, loved it surprisingly (not a fan of strategy games)
wait, what?! you jumped quest64 , hybrid heaven , paper mario ? wait just jrpg? dont care, it is good. i had fun playing sword of vermilion , landstalker , might and magic , populous on genesis (mega drive) , i know it is not rpg but i liked them.
I recently tried expanding my 3ds collection but dammmmmm its got so expensive. Only have 4 games and had to pay through the teeth for them. Smt Strange journey is nearly £100 brand new and sealed. Gutted.
Only psp rpgs I don’t have are ragnarok tactics, summon night 5, and Gungnir. I don’t be wanting to spend so much on them. Especially ragnarok tactics. I remember when that game dropped to 7.99 in the past. Now they want over 100 dollars for it everywhere I’ve seen it.
Yeah Nocturne and DDS was both amazing games. I still play Nocturne on my old PS2 and I sill have nightmares with that prison puzzle on DDS lol (No easy faq on the internet at the time ç.ç)
Yeah I really regret not collecting PS1 and PS2 games when they were dirt cheap. I ended up getting MegaMan legends 2 for free from a friend back in 2010.
To be fair I don't think the N64 even had 5 RPGs never less 10. Interesting lists and unfortunately that some of yours lists are incomplete but unfortunately retro games have been getting crazy expensive nowadays.
The only ones I can think of that would qualify as RPGs, for North America, would be Paper Mario, Ogre Battle, Quest 64, Hybrid Heaven, Aiden Chronicles and arguably Harvest Moon 64. Otherwise it shares a spot with the OG XBox where it's small RPG line-up means many lists start including games with "RPG elements" like the Zeldas, Megaman 64, Gauntlet, etc. I don't care. I still have so many cherished memories with the system
@@metalninjajesus1580 I miss the ogre battle games I wish enix at least I think it was a enix up but anyways I wish would bring back the ogre battle games. The 64 was a good system just not one that I had much of a history with.
Don’t buy TCS1 on its own. That game pretty much is a huge set up for what happens in 2. You will be disappointed if you don’t have the 2nd game ready to play immediately after you finish it. Get Ys 8. Or otherwise buy TCS 1 and 2 at the same time.
Playing Trails in the Sky FC now, on PC. PC version looks a lot nicer than the PSP version (graphically) so I'm glad I went that route. Pretty awesome game so far. Really really really reminds me of Lunar: The Silver Star. I guess because there's so much stuff that just feels like going about your daily life and not really saving the world from apocalypse. Maybe that comes later, but I'll find that out when I get deeper into the game/series. Very different from Lunar, but it has some vibe that I get from it. I loved the beginning of Lunar. Some kids brave a dragon cave to get a diamond, and their goal is to sell it, so they go sail somewhere to sell it... I remember being shocked when Ramus left the party because he could see the adventure was getting out of his league. He was right, but when do party members just leave because there's an adventure? The rest of the game is awesome of course, but this first leg of the game was what made me fall in love with it. Trails kinda feels like that to me so far. Looking forward to getting through this series.
Just emulate. And get on the hopium for rereleases. I'm still waiting for a rerelease of Skies of Arcadia on PC. I don't want to emulate it atm (as I've a huge backlog Ive to go through anyways) but I'll def buy it if it gets rereleased

Super Robot war OG 3, Super Robot war Z 1 and 2, Demon's gaze, God wars future past, FF X/X-2, Dragon's Crown, Muramasa, Disgaea 4, Persona 4 Golden
the only Nintendo consoles I own are the 3ds and the switch, though I own Chrono trigger on ps1 and I consider it the best SNES era RPG I've played and finished...
Switch:
Super Robot Wars X, SRW V, SRW T, Brigandine, Mercenaries Saga Chronicles, Dragon's Quest XI, Tokyo Mirage Session, Mario + Rabbids, Fire Emblem 3 Houses, SMT V
3DS list:
Fire emblem echoes, pokemon x, lord of Magna, fire emblem fates, bravely default and second, the alliance alive, Radiant Historia, Devil survivor 1-2, devil summoner: soul hacker, fire emblem awakening.
PC, none are physical though on this one:
Super Robot Wars 30, Tokyo Xanadu EX+, Trails in the Skies series.
Can't wait for the Crossbell saga (trails of zero, trails of azure) to be released in North America.
You should do a vid just talking a little bit about each of your books so someone like me can decide which one to start with.
Record of Lodoss War on Dreamcast is a Diablo style game
I'm surprised Suikoden 3 was so high on Erick's list. Compared to 5 & 2 he almost never hypes that one
It's painful being a DS collector. I got into DS games waaaayyyyy too late. :(
Same here
All I have to say is I'm thankful for emulator paradise, you just can't buy some games anymore.
Same, if it wasn't for GBA and PSP emulators I'd be doomed to miss out on a lot of great exclusives that Nintendo and Sony forgot about.
Isn't emuparadise dead now?
@@ltb1345 Looking back, I know people who have sold their gaming collections for peanuts. I'm still looking for a website that is as good as emulator paradise, if you come across any please let me know? I still use the workaround for emulator paradise.
@Walamonga 1313 Yes you can. I'd say more but my comment might get deleted again.
@@Walamonga1313 He didn't say emuparadise he said emulator paradise.
My favorite PS1 JRPGs:
FFVII
FFIX
Saga Frontier 2
Lunar
Lunar 2
The Legend of Dragoon
Chrono Trigger
Breath of Fire IV
Grandia
Alundra 2
For the ps3 games we have a similar top 10. Great video as always.
If you wanna play a good obscure Jrpg try the Caligula effect overdose and the Caligula effect 2 on PS4 or switch cuz there really good games
Happy that Xenosaga got a mention 💙
Xenosaga was so damn epic. I loved the space theme.
@@Viper4ever05 Yes, me too! 😊
I know it was never released in English on psp but the zero and ao no keseki are in my opinion the best games ever made on the psp ao being probably the best trails game out of all of them in my opinion
Highly recommend them when they finally come out in 2023
I get it why you would not care about the N64, when you mainly collect RPG games, but Ogrebattle 64 is phenomenal and its a bit of a shame you didn't even mentioning it.
Keep up the lovely work that you are doing
that Edelgard on the miniature tho
Do you play any western style RPG's? If so I would love to see your list on those. Love your videos keep up the awesome work.
My favorite PS2 JRPGs:
FF X
Dragon Quest VIII
Persona 4
Dark Cloud 2
Kingdom Hearts 2
Rogue Galaxy
Shadow Hearts from the New World
Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis
Person 4
Mana Khemia is amazing too. I used to play it on my PSP too for a long time before my PSP died down on me.
Erick Sega RPG Collection Hack: Pick Up The Mega Drive/Collection. It comes with 50 games and most of the RPGs worth collecting are in it anyways such as Shining Force 1 and 2.
If you check out nothing else from Sega: Skies Of Arcadia. One of the best JRPGs I've ever played.
Missing my old times playing Brave Story on PSP. one of my fav RPG on PSP beside hexys force and star ocean first departure
Off topic, but what are some of your favorite metal bands Erick?
you should have at least mentioned Xenoblade Chronicles X for the WII U. Its by far and away the best JRPG on the system
Games for a life time! Awesome collection!👍😎👍
Pandora's Tower is so good! I just wish I could finish it. That game breaking glitch sucks
Tales of legendia in your top 10 rpgs in ps2.
I love you erick
Final Fantasy VIII music in the background 😎👌🏻
EDIT: YOOOOOOO Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3 list! I just spent 40 hours on it for the past
weeks, loved it surprisingly (not a fan of strategy games)
wait, what?! you jumped quest64 , hybrid heaven , paper mario ? wait just jrpg? dont care, it is good.
i had fun playing sword of vermilion , landstalker , might and magic , populous on genesis (mega drive) , i know it is not rpg but i liked them.
I recently tried expanding my 3ds collection but dammmmmm its got so expensive. Only have 4 games and had to pay through the teeth for them. Smt Strange journey is nearly £100 brand new and sealed. Gutted.
I got most of the 3DS RPGs I have just before they got expensive (or as gifts). Wish I could say the same about the DS...
What an awesome collection! I wish I could have one like that
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Erick. What was the Sega Genesis game you were holding?
Only psp rpgs I don’t have are ragnarok tactics, summon night 5, and Gungnir. I don’t be wanting to spend so much on them. Especially ragnarok tactics. I remember when that game dropped to 7.99 in the past. Now they want over 100 dollars for it everywhere I’ve seen it.
I have no physical jrpg game, all my games are digital on pc.
As a psvita owner i feel you
What about the RPGs on the Atari 2600?
P3FES but no nocturne or Digital devil saga? Oh well
yeah, those are definitely in my top ten, along with xenosaga.
Yeah Nocturne and DDS was both amazing games. I still play Nocturne on my old PS2 and I sill have nightmares with that prison puzzle on DDS lol (No easy faq on the internet at the time ç.ç)
I love RPGS, just wanted to say Clash of Heroes is so damn good. IDK why or how my parents bought me the game. But it's great.
Hey Erick, I bought Reaper's Thorn, Nix Inferno, and Seven Shadows. Which one should I start with?
FFX not in the top 1, not even in the top 10 for ps2? 😮 best game ever made for me
Yeah I really regret not collecting PS1 and PS2 games when they were dirt cheap.
@@UndeadEggmiester SE has a game call triangle strategy it plays fire FE with Orge together
Custom robo is a gem
damm your game collection must be massive
i expected Star Ocean 3 Till the End of Time in your PS2 list but i was wrong
or you don't have it?
Tales of arise didn’t make it over bersaria? I thought it was the best tales ever made
Not for Erick. See his review in an earlier video. For him among the Tales games it’s like 5th or 6th place.
Tales of Abyss is the best though
@@Mr.Nightray If you can power through the annoying MC is a good game. I'd rather chose Vesperia with Yuri Lowell and that amazing voice acting. xD
I want to get into Falcom JRPGs... Should I get Ys VIII or Trails of Cold Steel 1 ??
Don’t buy TCS1 on its own. That game pretty much is a huge set up for what happens in 2. You will be disappointed if you don’t have the 2nd game ready to play immediately after you finish it. Get Ys 8. Or otherwise buy TCS 1 and 2 at the same time.
@@redstratus97 if i play TCS, then i will play all 4 of them so thats not a issue, also i was leaning towards Ys 8, so i might go that route....
@@prasenjeetbanerjee2867 There both great games I have beat the 4 part series and ys game you can't go wrong with either.
Ys VIII no question. Incredibly fun, engaging and challenging (play on Nightmare). That said if you don't want an action game, then I guess Trails.
Definitely Ys 8, my main problem with Trails of Cold Steel is that it's a massive time sink
haven't you play super robot wars series ( スーパーロボット大戦 ) ? its one of the best JRPG Strategy out there
Playing Trails in the Sky FC now, on PC.
What was the Genesis game at the end being held up?
Phantasy Star IV
@@TheRPGChick thanks I had to bump up from my typical 240p to read it
Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle 2 is the best JRPG.
I'm surprised you have the Tellius games. I had to spend more than 350 dollars on both of them.
Psp love it or hate it the handheld has loads of great jrpg's.
I used to have Valkyrie profile 2 like ten years ago and I have no idea where is it
What about a list of Top 10 Tactical-rpgs?
Star ocean 2 is my favorite psp rpg and my favorite version of the game
You should rename this video to Top 10 Consoles I Don't Care About :D
No Riviera for PSP? I like that game.
Xenoblade X is definitely worth trying if you haven’t yet
I have all of these, but i don't have the time to finish any of them:))
can i have your operation darkness game, is really difficult to find this days
Didnt know there was a Blue Dragon game for the xbox 360 lmao
hello erick!
Please rank your 100 best jrpg games
Rondo of Sword for DS?
Blue Dragon is the GOAT
Number 1 for me is The Legend of Dragoon
Radiant Historia caught my eye but it's impossible to find it for less than 150 euros ffs, guess I won't experience that game unfortunately.
Get Citra Emulator for the 3DS emulator version. It's free and you can play plenty of other jrpgs on it too
I ended up buying it from the 3ds eshop in the end
Just emulate. And get on the hopium for rereleases. I'm still waiting for a rerelease of Skies of Arcadia on PC. I don't want to emulate it atm (as I've a huge backlog Ive to go through anyways) but I'll def buy it if it gets rereleased
It's shocking how few exclusives JRPGs are on the PS4
and mostly of them are SEGA games ...
Not shocking at all, since Sony has been neglecting the japanese market since the PS3 generation.
@@TG-mu7ux Yeah, only SEGA left becouse they love free money from Sony instead of porting games on every platform possible and earn more (Fist of The North Star, Sakura Wars, Atlus and Vanilaware games). What a lazy company.
No Dragon quest 8 in the ps2 list wow.
Aww, I love my Wii U 😭 love the video though 💕
How you don’t like the 64? What about it does not appeal to you?
In my case, the worst controller of all time
I would say lack of RPGs on 64.
@@Eggnificent there is a good amount on the 64
I mean Hybrid Heaven had a great story and I had fun with it. But it’s not that deep of an experience. That’s the only one I played on the system.
@@witchersteve1918 there's like 5. I had a N64.

im currently playing eternal poison, awsome game!.
another comment i only own 3 or 4 games from the Sega Genesis as well Phantasy star 4 shining force 1 and 2 and i happen to have Crusader of Centy
